Apparently Google Music is getting a much needed update for the upcoming ICS release but it's been leaked already and is compatible with current version of Android so here it is.

**Update**
Some have noted that this version of the apk only plays local music (music stored on your phone) so I played around in it a bit and found the fix
First, before installing this apk you must remove v3 if you've got it installed. Install this apk and when you open the app it will tell you you're in offline mode only, and will likely ask you for permission to access your google account, go ahead and accept it then close the app.
Go to settings/apps/manage apps and clear data for the app and reopen it. Once in the app, press the menu button, settings, then press "select google account" and pick the google account associated with your Google Music account then exit the app. If you phone is setup to auto sync, I think it'll then sync automatically but if you're like me and don't have your phone set to autosync, go into settings/accounts & sync and tap your google account then tap "sync music" and you're good to go
**Update 10.13.11**
I noticed shortly after installing this app that I was no longer able to add contacts, I got a FC anytime I tried. I didn't realize it was due to this app initially....so today, after a fresh install, I downloaded and added the Google Music app from the market and got the same problem. Not exactly sure what the conflict is but my work around was to revert back to WB v3.5 and get the app setup on that rom, then flash v6 on top of it. After doing that, no more FC's on adding contacts and the app works fine. Just a heads up.

Have you tested this before posting? It's only the barebones music player, no connection with your gmusic account, the player doesn't even have equalizer. Looks like someone repacked music 1.0 and called it 4.0

My "test" was confirming it works, which it did. However I didn't notice the lack of connection to your Gmusic acct as I didn't do anything besides ensure it installed and opened. Lesson learned

Have you followed the installation instructions exactly as listed in the OP?

I use google play music in india and have all my mp3 in google cloud. So my sd card always have large space....:laugh:

This is why I love XDA.
A few notes and bug work arounds for UK users.
(I think this line is a world wide thing) grant permissions for the app to Allow it to use for Accounts. (SJ)
Now it will not let you sync up your device. It will only show local files. To get around this delete or move all your music files from your Phone (or tablet if you're like me). Now go to the settings where you can see running apps and services. Kill all Google Music stuff, delete ALL data and cache then relaunch the app. You'll be prompted to login. If you skip the login the you'll have to go back to "Kill all Google Music..."
I'm aware that was breif but the key points are there.

Neither of the methods works.. I can copy the apk to /data/app/ (nothing happens at reboot) but I can't even copy it to /system/app (fails, even though the phone is rooted and I gave all the read/write permissions with ES file explorer)... any suggestions?

Just took some printscreens on my ZX and uploaded them. Sorry about that ^^
Did have any problem loading the page on my XZ, but then i realized that it got LTE
Also, Scilor's just maintains the core while I'm the one who writes the app, maintain and update it.
Almost all servers that the app uses, is at my apartment

Not sure what you are saying. It won't let you create a playlist without having a login. But it won't let you get one.

You can search and then log-press on songs to get a menu that allows you to do stuff like create a playlists.
About logging in, you probably just entered the wrong username or password. We currently don't have any way to
check if the username and password is correct (we don't get any response from Groovesharks servers) so we'll just
have to assume that the login was successful

The app seems to be working great but I can't permanently remove the apps notification from the status bar. Not even a long back press to force quit it works. I have to freeze it in titanium backup. Anyway to quit out of the application appropriately?

There is such a bug on some songs, we'll fix that in the update coming in a few days. But that's only for some particular songs, wright? If this is happening to all the songs, then it's possible that the source is closed in your country, for example we had to remove the app already from Italian Play Store, cause the source is banned in their country...

Notification is removed, when you press the pause button in there, we made it like thatm so the music wouldn't stop, when you accidently clear the notifications... If not, please write back, we'll try to fix that!)

I was skeptical about using your app but decided to try it out and Im glad I did. I was able to find songs ive been looking for but haven't been able to find before :thumbup: great app

This is one incredibly sleek looking app.. Good job!
May I ask how it obtains the mp3 files? You could always program it to use VK.com. They have an incredible collection of mp3s.
EDIT: After some searching for obscure song titles and seeing them in the results, I can only assume that this app does infact uses VK.com (or?)... Which is awesome
EDIT2: Incase you're still working on this app, maybe I suggest a feature to disable the built in player? To avoid any ongoing notifciations, etc. Getting the mp3s downloaded is good enough for me, maybe a "open" button to open the downloaded mp3 in any audioplayer.

Lets you control the music from your edge.
How?
1. Download and install the app
2. Go to the edge overview panel and open up the configuration page for the new installed panel (click the pen)
3. Click the button ("change notification permission")
4. Allow "Edge Player" to get access to your notification (If you don't trust me you can clone the project and build your own version)
5. Return. Now the checkbox "Notification Access" should be checked.
6. Enable the panel If you updated from a previous version, you have to disable and reenable the panel. A restart might also be necessary
7. Start your favorite music app and control it from the side

Thanks, I implemented the launch on tap feature and the new version should be compatible with almost any music app (if not please post the app you use)
So far I tested:
Google Play Music
Amazon Prime Music
Spotify
Apple Music (only a bit, maybe someone could test in detail)

Thanks! Did you post an update to the first app posted? If so I'll download that and test it out. Currently on the dropbox link you posted a couple days ago, the control buttons on the bottom work great, but tapping anywhere else on the Edge Panel does not launch the app.
Edit: My bad. Realized I have 1.0.

I don't have the pro version, but the free version works fine. Are you sure you downloaded the latest version of my app? (dropbox.com/s/e5ack4ztdoay4lc/edge_player_1_1.apk?dl=1)

Try deleting app data for the edge player itself.
For me that helped.

Gives me album art bit controls dont work on PowerAmp. This is after reboot...
Would be cool to swipe album art up or down to volume up or down...

Rarely works for me, usually I get "MediaPlayer error (-38)" and "MediaPlayer error 1 (-2147483648), any ideas?
Not sure if this thread is still alive haha. The app works well, thanks for creating it! One feature that would be really nice would be to have a shuffle option under the '...' menu, similar to how Google Play Music does it.

I understand that the app is removed from Google Play store and it sucks, but does that mean you stop development also. I mean there are other ways to offer the apk if you want that.

I don't have so much free time for further development. SoundCloud also stopped supporting 3rd party apps.

hearthis.at is nice alternative, but doesn't have so many users/music

I know also hearthis.at, but as you already said, there are less artists (music) available. Interesting to know that the hearthis.at app is your fork. That's why I thought the app design is familiar.

Is it Version 2.0b19 or some kind of update?
I'm not able to install your "last" release.
I downloaded the APK from the above Google drive link on to my Nvidia shield TV and it's working perfect. Sad that it's removed from playstore.

But I see SoundCloud is still working in this app...
Had to use an older wiped phone cause my "current" one is under repair. Noticed the sideloaded apk is not recognized by Android Auto at all.
I hope when I get my phone back fixed I can recover the app with the right permission to still show in Android Auto. Long time support of this and your other app, paid for that one it cause I love this one. Ridiculous how they kicked it out of the store.
Getting setDataSource failed and MediaPlayer error -38 (0) for everything. Tried rebooting and restarting app. Guess this is the end of the line?View attachment 4718608
