[Acer Iconia Smart] Force the full screen mode ! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
If you bought an Acer Iconia Smart (S300) you probably noticed that most apps don't use full screen mode on this unusual device.
This is a pitty but it can be adressed. How ? Thanks to a (badly) hidden menu that can enable/disable a compatibility mode.
You'll still see some badly coded apps that won't fill the whole screen but hey... they are badly coded so you don't want them on your device !
Here is how to access that hidden menu.
First step : install "Lancher Pro (Free)" from the market.
You can uninstall it after this process.
Once installed click on the home menu of you phone :
If you want to keep using Acer Launcher just tick the box and click on Application Launcher.
The following exemple uses the Acer interface as default.
Go back to your homescreen, find a screen that has a free icon space and click on "menu".U
Then click "Add"
Then "Shortcut"
Then"Activities"
Now go down and click on "Settings" :
Go to "Compatibility Settings"
Click on it
Now you have a shortcut on your screen :
Go click on it :
untick the "Compatibility Mode" box
Now just click on your "home" button or back to go return to your homescreen and enjoy your fullscreen experience!
The shortcut you created can be deleted and Launcher Pro can be uninstalled as you probably will never want to go back !

I LOVE THIS PHONE MORE THAN EVER with this trick THANKS BUDDY. ciaoo

Some devices/ROM-versions also have a *#*#4224#*#* option. Just dial it and see if it works (no need for Launcher Pro ).

Nice trick thanks for the code it's much easier

And it works well in most applications some home screens that cannot cope with the large resolution, but when using the Acer home, I haven't really encountered any apps that had problems

There's no ICS yet. I did see a MIUI rom on a Russian website, but haven't tested it yet. I wouldn't try rooting or other stuff, unless you have a specific reason...

thank you
Totally works thank you is their any way I can get ice cream sandwich on this phone without rooting it as I have no idea on how to do that

You won't because it doesn't exist yet

And it probably will never come as Acer will not release ICS for the Iconia Smart. It may come from independant devs but I don't know who... Vache had an Iconia Smart but it's broken so he won't be able to do it... He did begin on porting CM9 but was stopped by 3G support (otherwise the phone was running fine).

Maybe you can convince Vache to share his sources so some others can continue development? I have asked a while ago, but never received a response...
Nevertheless, may I recommend the MIUI ROM that I have added to the forum today? It's really nice imho. I only have a problem with my APN list, no other issues so far...

micro sd storage
im just wondering does any one know how to make their micro sd the main storage for every thing on the s300 please

Nika : for Vache sources see if he has a github or something. I know he shared his sources with lens_flare over at modaco. MT and Smart share the same sources.
And don't get your hopes up about ics on the Smart. I don't trust support about updates as they usually have no clue about this.

You have 6.5 GB available on main storage, so why would you want that?! On other devices I've seen that you need to modify "vold.fstab" (ie. root required). Also on other forums I've seen people use link2sd for it (also root required)...

I've quickly looked at his github, but nothing there for S300. Will look further when I have time (or nothing to do ). I did see they develop ICS on the MT actively, so maybe we should wait till they have it more stable over there

bug
i think i found a bug. when i return to my home screen, on the bottom just above the phone, message, ... apps, there are five small pèoints to show you on what home screen you are. but my backgroung is moving around these points like hell, and after i opened and closed an app, there remains still a part of the app near these five points. my background is a custom photography, with a pre-installed background everything works perfectly.
hope you find a solution :S
but it s a great tutorial thanks for that:good:

I've got an el-cheap-o 7" tablet a friend of mine gave me that I'm looking to sell. Problem with it is, I can't figure out what version of Android is on it and if it can be upgraded. The official web site is http://www.panimagemedia.net/r79rt2w5/ but it doesn't give me much to go on. Went into settings and "About Device" but theres no information on the "Android Version".
I can tell this device isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but what do you guys think I could get out of it if sold on tehBay or CL?

has anyone rooted this thing? and are there any roms out there for it? searched, but all results yield bad links
dont see any updates, but the makers FAQ says 1.6 so chances are slim that there is any other riom out there, but I could be wrong, check youtuibe i cant get there from work, but apparently there are some posts there
Try slatedroid, there are ics roms for the pandigital novel which started on 1.6 too.
Now if xda would just open a wpdn forum.

Panimage Pandigital R79RT2W5 ROM (still android 1.6)
here is a gingerbread themed rom for this crappy tablet. The Installing the rom roots the tablet.
1. extract script folder to root of microsd.
2. power on tablet
3. watch it install
4. remove sd when prompted, it will power off
5. power back on. Enjoy
This thing is still pretty crippled with the custom ROM on it. To play youtube you need a microsd inserted at all times so the youtube player included (JetVD) will work. It caches to the sd card.

Proscan PLT 7035B - connect to PC, upgrade to JB and rooting with Play Store

Details of how to connect to PC, upgrade to JB and rooting with Play Store in posts #3 and #4.
I came across this tablet during the holiday season sale at P C Richard and Son (don't see them carrying it anymore). Found it to be a great deal for 59.99 USD (+tax) since it looks like it has a lot of potential for so cheap a tablet.
The one I am currently playing around with is the last of the 5 that I had picked up as gifts for others (and this one will be reaching the recipient soon).
When searching the web for more info, could practically find none. Most of the stuff I saw online was desperate queries of folks struggling with this model - Proscan PLT7035-B from Curtis Intl..
I love the Jelly Bean on my Nexus 7 and the Note II - and so was just trying to put together a sort of guide of the great work you folks have been doing here at XDA that will immensely help those who seek them for this particular make/model.

In the next couple of posts, will try my best to explain in detail the steps that I took to upgrade my tablet from ICS 4.0.4 to JB 4.1.1 and successfully root as well as have CWM installed along with Google Play store.
Cheers
Now before we get into details about flashing etc. link below is a nice "guide" article about the various terminologies like what is a Bootloader, custom ROM, Kernel, CWM, Firmware, Flashing, ADB, Root etc.
http://androidforums.com/4657640-post1.html
Click on the above link - a must read for newbies.
Now the Statutory warning: Follow all the remaining steps in this thread at your own risk. It worked fine for me - so neither the forum or me are liable in any sort of way for any damages whatsoever that you may bring upon yourself.
Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Update:
Proscan Model Number PLT7035-B has it on their official site:
http://proscanvideo.com/item.asp?itemnmbr=PLT7035-B
Firmware:
-------------
4.0
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/PRO_PLT7035-B_FIRMWARE_4.0.ZIP
4.1
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/PRO_PLT7035-B_FIRMWARE_4.1.ZIP
Manual
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/PRO_PLT7035-B_ENFR.PDF
As always - statutory warning - neither me nor the forum are liable for any damages to your tablet - do it at your own risk - no one other than you alone is liable for any damages arising from the usage of this guide.
How to upgrade the firmware after downloading it from above link:
Get the RKBatchTool
First of all - ensure that your tablet is FULLY charged.
Unzip the RKBatchTool v1.5 to your desktop
Turn off the tablet and disconnect from the PC.
Now press the Volume Up (+) button and keep holding it down.
Here comes the slightly tricky maneuver - you have to keep pressing the volume UP (+) button and connect at the USB at same time in to the PC. The tablet will power up on it's own but the screen will remain blank
Once the PC starts searching for the driver, you can release the volume button.
Windows will prompt you for drivers for "RK29 device".
Use appropriate drivers from the driver folder.
Have attached some pictures collected from the web (it is just to give a visual idea as an aid to the walk through and may not be detailed nor accurate in every aspect since some of them are from instructions for other devices).
Run the RKBatchTool v1.5.
Click on first button at the left bottom end of the tool screen - this is a toggle for Chinese/English versions.
In the "FW Path" load the update.img file by clicking on the top right side button with the three ... dots
The following will appear in the status box after the "connected devices" box turns green.
Loading firmware...
Loading firmware Finished.
I clicked "Upgrade" (even though the picture says restore).
Your previously green colored box of "connected devices" will now keep flashing in yellow.
Sit back and have fun watching the status box - will probably take a couple of minutes for the whole process and verification.
When it is all done with - the tablet will reboot.
Remember that the first boot would take a longer time than usual powering up time - so just be patient.
All the best.

Attached below are the pics from Proscan site Powerpoint.
I have successfully rooted it twice and installed Play Store (once with ICS and now with JB)
First time it was with help of amjtech thread [Tutorial] Proscan PLT-7035-PL Root and install GAPPS
Now I tried the [RK29][TOOL] Root RK29 Tab Toolkit since the sdk was already installed.
Very simple and super effective rooting process.:good:
The first time when I ran in to driver installation issues it was pertaining to permissions.
Found work-arounds elsewhere and also had issues with the installing google playstore.
Hence used the Vending 3.9.16.apk from thread [Share] Google Play 3.10.10 [Updated 14.12.12] to resolve it.
Installing CWM was also a breeze - thanks to the great work of fun_ . It is a simple process if you follow his guidelines :good:
He has been very kind to upload an exclusive CWM-based Recovery image for ProScan PLT7035-B (ext4)
Click above link to d/l it and follow installation instructions
--------------------------------------
Precautionary measure - the following is just in case something goes wrong and you want to revert back (and also to have a copy of original images) :
I used the romdump technique and following Oma's suggestion have created the kernel, boot, recovery and system images in SD card for ICS 4.0.4 of Proscan PLT7035-B
http://www.4shared.com/zip/UtCs-yCE/Proscan_PLT7035-B.html
Above link upload to 4share is exclusively for the Proscan PLT7035-B (ICS 4.0.4) and hopefully has not been corrupted because my internet connection has been flubbing for past few days.
Have fun and remember to use caution because you alone are responsible if you brick your device.
Cheers

[Q] Acer Liquid S1

Hi all,
Since there is still no device specific forum for the Acer Liquid S1.
Me and probably many other people who own this budget 5.7" phablet beast consider this phone as a device that certainly deserves his own forum
Until there is a device specific forum I created this thread so every S1 owner can share tips and questions regarding the Acer Liquid S1 (=S510).
I didn't see any request for a device specific forum, so make sure to request it here:

Agreed and now looking at the details of new Acer Liquid S2 - I feel it definitely deserves it's own section - especially when I compare the specs to the likes of Ultra and Note III a worthy competitor and would like to see some development and discussion on this model.
ps: added a request to create forum - in the new devices section - hope someone does create one and we can see some new development on this

Thats bad news, this is what is holding me off getting it at the moment. I did find a link when searching for a solution that led here :http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=2798984876&uk=2318828147 (it is in chinese).
Don't know if it works though, been searching for confirmation of the device rooted but with no luck though.

Thats a shame.
The main reason I need to root initially, is to be able to transfer my files from existing phone. Does anyone know if Helium would enable this ?
If this works, then I don't mind going for this phone, and as long as I can transfer my data, I can hold out for root until hopefully more developers get on board.
Helium could be enough yes. What files exactly do you need to transfer?
Envoyé depuis mon S510
Mainly my game files, well Subway surfers for definite. My apps I can download again from the play store. Of course some games are now connected via G+ sign in, so they are alright, it is just a shame that this feature isn't compulsory on all apps/games. It would make the transition to a new phone easier.
The camera is just of average
Just bought Acer Liquid S1 a couple of weeks ago. Everything works fine except for the camera. With 8MP camera fitted on it, the quality of the picture is just mediocre. The front camera (2MP) is also disappointing, full of noise when it is used indoors. There's no visible notification when the display is off. Therefore, we need to turn on the display to check whether there's a miscall or incoming email or text message.
Is there any way in which I can have root access for this phablet? I have ODIN software installed in my laptop, and I just need a *.tar file special for this product to root it.

Hi all,
Since there is still no device specific forum for the Acer Liquid S1.

@gbas4nie don't use Odin, it's only for Samsung devices....
Edit : And tools are also available on my website : http://acer.shreps.fr
Just moved over from Samsung Note to this phone as it's Dual Sim. Brilliant, as I no longer have to carry two phones with me. Works great. and less than half the price of a Note. I miss the stylus, but apparently a dual sim Note may be coming soon!
Hello, is there any root-guide in english available?

Hi that's strange as the app that flashes will check the ROM version and won't flash if your system is not as expected. Did you use the app ?

[CM DEVELOPMENT] Asus MeMO Pad ME172V

Today my wife got this device as a gift for Christmas. She asked me to look at it and set it up for her. After about an hour of research I was deeply disappointed by the fact that this device has no ROMs or Kernels and barely supports ROOT. The device is kind of slow for 2013 due to its one core 1GHz processor. But I am sure this issue would be fixed with optimizations from custom ROMs and Kernels. I myself am not an android developer but do some coding in the free time and worked on a few ports of sense for several devices. On this thread I would like to get as many developers possible with the Asus MeMO Pad to communicate and collaborate to develop a working port of CyanogenMod for the device. I will be happy to help anyone interested in this project by doing some work in the free time. I chose CyanogenMod as it is probably the easiest one to compile and is much simpler than its competitors. If we get a successful build of CM then we can move on to developing Kernels and more complex versions of Android. Keep in mind that this is not a request for any particular developer but just an invitation to collaborate and build a working ROM for this tablet. If you are interested in working with me on this project please PM me or comment down below. I will be glad to help as much as I can. Thank you to all of the developers that would be willing to participate in this project.

I did the AMPC app and mini rom (not a full rom but more mods collection)
How are you skills to decompile img ?? since the guy who did root before is no more...and we should start by doing root for latest FW.
and CWM is also very buggy (build using online kitchen)
Please feel free to PM me
I'd like to but I don't know android coding. I do some basic Java programming if that helps

Hi! I'm the guy that made CWM for this tablet, as well as the one on whos idea the whole root thing is based I'm very glad that someone picked up work on this tablet and is trying to make it better, since I don't have the time and I've lost my patience since ASUS is refusing to co-operate as far as updates and source codes are concerned. You can always PM me with questions as well as all or any info you have and I'm also willing to test builds out. Thanks

Hiya @nerotNS, I'm currently new (a noob) at xda-developers forum but since I'm actually getting a memo pad what better way of installing cyanogenmod properly than asking for help. However I couldn't help but to find the source code, and I did. I'm currently still learning so the source code wouldn't be of help to me than it would to you. So that said, heres the source
==> support (dot) asus (dot) com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+MeMO+Pad&p=28&s=6

Hmm that's the kernel source code, we already have that Though it was in a bit of a strange format, plus I firmly believe that it's outdated as I think ASUS made some changes in the kernels via OTA. Thanks for your tip though,it's good to see that someone's trying to do with this pad

ASUS Transformer TF303

With a desperate need to replace my TF700T, no rumours anywhere of a TF701T replacement coming, the only "new" Transformer coming to the UK being the entry level TF103 and a Facebook post reply from ASUS UK stating that they've no intention to bring the TF303 to the UK, I've ordered a TF303CL from Germany -- yeah, yeah, squiffy keyboard I know ...but less than ½ what I paid for TF700.
Has the buzz and excitement gone out of the TF line now as when I was looking at the Prime and then the Infinity there was quite a furore over them but the TF103 and TF303 have appeared with hardly a whisper about them on the internet. There is still nothing else out there that that offers the combination of features that the Transformers do with regards keyboard, trackpad, ports, etc. I'm disappointed that ASUS seem to have embarked on de-specing the Transformers. Is it all about the Transformer Books now?
Will this be a mainstream enough device to get its own section on here?

Got a TF303K, very pleased with it but still looking for a way to get root.
Also I noticed that busybox installer reports it as already rooted but not able to install busybox binaries so no root yet...
Will gladly see a dedicated section!
edit: did anyone tried towelroot?

Try this app. There few posts on 4pda.ru that say that it helped.
Thanks but did not work, it says "only for zen phones". I also tried the last version but same error. That's a strange thing as the TF303CL version can be rooted using this app.
I will keep looking for something.
If someone can try on their 303k just to confirm that it is not working.
Also I did the update when I got so maybe a factory reset might do the trick.
Edit:
got the last apk version on asusfone blog: http://www.asuszenfoneblog.com/search/label/RootZenFone
Model: K01B
System: 4.4.2
Build: KOT49H.WW_epad-11.12.1.39-20141009
RootZenFone does not shows the "root" button because it is not a zen phone, so the app is checking device name or something like that. If we can change that file then it might work ( or explode and kill every cat within a mile ).
If someone is smart enough to root the TF303K I will gladly send him an "inbox" invite or "ello" invite if it can help things moving.
