Proscan PLT 7035B - connect to PC, upgrade to JB and rooting with Play Store - General Questions and Answers

Details of how to connect to PC, upgrade to JB and rooting with Play Store in posts #3 and #4.
I came across this tablet during the holiday season sale at P C Richard and Son (don't see them carrying it anymore). Found it to be a great deal for 59.99 USD (+tax) since it looks like it has a lot of potential for so cheap a tablet.
The one I am currently playing around with is the last of the 5 that I had picked up as gifts for others (and this one will be reaching the recipient soon).
When searching the web for more info, could practically find none. Most of the stuff I saw online was desperate queries of folks struggling with this model - Proscan PLT7035-B from Curtis Intl..
I love the Jelly Bean on my Nexus 7 and the Note II - and so was just trying to put together a sort of guide of the great work you folks have been doing here at XDA that will immensely help those who seek them for this particular make/model.

In the next couple of posts, will try my best to explain in detail the steps that I took to upgrade my tablet from ICS 4.0.4 to JB 4.1.1 and successfully root as well as have CWM installed along with Google Play store.
Cheers

Now before we get into details about flashing etc. link below is a nice "guide" article about the various terminologies like what is a Bootloader, custom ROM, Kernel, CWM, Firmware, Flashing, ADB, Root etc.
http://androidforums.com/4657640-post1.html
Click on the above link - a must read for newbies.
Now the Statutory warning: Follow all the remaining steps in this thread at your own risk. It worked fine for me - so neither the forum or me are liable in any sort of way for any damages whatsoever that you may bring upon yourself.

Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Update:
Proscan Model Number PLT7035-B has it on their official site:
http://proscanvideo.com/item.asp?itemnmbr=PLT7035-B
Firmware:
-------------
4.0

4.1
http://www.curtisint.com/html/custservice/manuals/PRO_PLT7035-B_FIRMWARE_4.1.ZIP
Manual

As always - statutory warning - neither me nor the forum are liable for any damages to your tablet - do it at your own risk - no one other than you alone is liable for any damages arising from the usage of this guide.
How to upgrade the firmware after downloading it from above link:
Get the RKBatchTool
First of all - ensure that your tablet is FULLY charged.
Unzip the RKBatchTool v1.5 to your desktop
Turn off the tablet and disconnect from the PC.
Now press the Volume Up (+) button and keep holding it down.
Here comes the slightly tricky maneuver - you have to keep pressing the volume UP (+) button and connect at the USB at same time in to the PC. The tablet will power up on it's own but the screen will remain blank
Once the PC starts searching for the driver, you can release the volume button.
Windows will prompt you for drivers for "RK29 device".
Use appropriate drivers from the driver folder.
Have attached some pictures collected from the web (it is just to give a visual idea as an aid to the walk through and may not be detailed nor accurate in every aspect since some of them are from instructions for other devices).
Run the RKBatchTool v1.5.
Click on first button at the left bottom end of the tool screen - this is a toggle for Chinese/English versions.
In the "FW Path" load the update.img file by clicking on the top right side button with the three ... dots
The following will appear in the status box after the "connected devices" box turns green.
Loading firmware...
Loading firmware Finished.
I clicked "Upgrade" (even though the picture says restore).
Your previously green colored box of "connected devices" will now keep flashing in yellow.
Sit back and have fun watching the status box - will probably take a couple of minutes for the whole process and verification.
When it is all done with - the tablet will reboot.
Remember that the first boot would take a longer time than usual powering up time - so just be patient.
All the best.

Attached below are the pics from Proscan site Powerpoint.

I have successfully rooted it twice and installed Play Store (once with ICS and now with JB)
First time it was with help of amjtech thread [Tutorial] Proscan PLT-7035-PL Root and install GAPPS
Now I tried the [RK29][TOOL] Root RK29 Tab Toolkit since the sdk was already installed.
Very simple and super effective rooting process.:good:
The first time when I ran in to driver installation issues it was pertaining to permissions.
Found work-arounds elsewhere and also had issues with the installing google playstore.
Hence used the Vending 3.9.16.apk from thread [Share] Google Play 3.10.10 [Updated 14.12.12] to resolve it.
Installing CWM was also a breeze - thanks to the great work of fun_ . It is a simple process if you follow his guidelines :good:
He has been very kind to upload an exclusive CWM-based Recovery image for ProScan PLT7035-B (ext4)
Click above link to d/l it and follow installation instructions
--------------------------------------
Precautionary measure - the following is just in case something goes wrong and you want to revert back (and also to have a copy of original images) :
I used the romdump technique and following Oma's suggestion have created the kernel, boot, recovery and system images in SD card for ICS 4.0.4 of Proscan PLT7035-B
http://www.4shared.com/zip/UtCs-yCE/Proscan_PLT7035-B.html
Above link upload to 4share is exclusively for the Proscan PLT7035-B (ICS 4.0.4) and hopefully has not been corrupted because my internet connection has been flubbing for past few days.
Have fun and remember to use caution because you alone are responsible if you brick your device.
Cheers

Rooted stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 with Play store screen shot from the Proscan PLT7035-B with RK2906
Details of how-to in the third and fourth post from top.

A BIG THANK YOU TO Oma7144 :good:
RK2906 Tab Proscan PLT7035-B now joins his list and rocks with Jelly Bean Custom Rom! Click here if you want to try it out.
Am loving it.
Thanks to him the Kernel for the PLT7035-B can be found here
Or click here for direct download.
Looking foward to the stable CM10 version.
Cheers.

This is an update from my end with regards to the JB 4.2.2 Multi-Window by Oma on the RK29
http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=1661
Check it out
------------------------------
There is also a Second Test Build CM10.1 (Thanks Oma) on Proscan PLT7035-B
Tried the CrewRKTablets_RK29_Loox_CM10.1_4.2.1_20130113.7z along with CrewRKTablets_Format NAND.zip with the custom kernel made by him on his ICS thread.
Am very happy to say it is working great so far except for the spotty wi-fi at times and also screen rotation (needs sensor/rotation calibration).
Please remember that it is still a test build.
Cheers.

Sooo I had a moment of derrrr and flashed the jellybean upgrade for the PLT7035-B to my 7035-pl. Boots up (quickly I might add) and goes to the lock screen but I have no touch control over the screen. Does anyone have an image of the original firmware for this tablet? Or any Idea on how I can regain control of the touch screen?

But you can do all the rooting and install CWM along with playstore as mentioned in post 4 since fun_ has a generic CWM on his site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37221496&postcount=4
Would also appreciate it if you could kindly do a romdump of your 7035-PL and host the Boot, Recovery And System Partition Images to help people like capfl2k5 whose post from another forum is quote above.
Also try requesting Oma for a suitable kernel in his JB custom rom thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903745 and you will be all set. I really like that rom he has built.:good:
And then you could also try the CM 10.1 with that same kernel

I will see what I can do . I have su already but did not have any luck with with Google play I will try again later

Now the proscan PLT7035-B that I have currently is running on the custom rom - Oma Odys Loox JB 4.1.1 V1.2.3a and I might have just enough time with the tablet to make it to 4.2.2 version.

There is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484547
but for now, there isn't a 'rooted kernel' for the more recent updates that you got OTA or via Kies.. so check my comment .
about reverting to the older stock rom. You might want to wait for ICS and a rooted kernel before going through the trouble of rooting.
WIth E120K, have you tried using the LTE service already? I am really wondering whether the LTE service work outside of Korea, especially in Australia. thanks
LTE on it works great. Does anyone know if there is a kernel for 4.0.4 for the E120K. I have searched all over the place to no avail.

Huawei U8860 Honor / Honour / Glory - Index

Welcome to the Huawei U8860 Honor / Honour / Glory - Index!
(please treat this thread as dev-thread, it is part of a dev-forum, not Q&A)
Please don't PM me for support, I will ignore those requests - they are just too many and I'm not getting paid for that, I'm not huawei support. Just ask your questions somewhere in the forum, but in my opinion this thread is really not the place for it, since this is a developer forum and not the Q&A section. That's why xda-developers adds restrictions to post here for new users - to prevent this to be a Q&A-Forum. Please Try to ask your questions in the appropriate Q&A-Section of the xda-developer Forum.
Different versions of the Huawei Honor
There are two feature differences that I am aware of:
Number of Touch-Points: 2 or 5; I have 2 touch-points and with B977 my ProjectMenu just printed "synaptic" as touchscreen version, with B919 it states "synaptics-TPK.6"
Position of Huawei Logo on the back: in the top-left corner (china / russia?) or in the middle like this: http://kaefert.is-a-geek.org/huawei_honor/IMG_7491_small.JPG
It seem's there are versions without a camera? at least user limzm states in his signature his U8860 doesn't have one.
Backup & Recovery
In my opinion the first and most important thing when playing around with different ROMs, is the ability to backup and restore the phones ROM & state.
For this you need a custom recovery (which you will also need to flash custom ROMs, so you might only skip this if you want to only flash stock ROMs)
If you're on an 2.3.6 ROM, then possibly for this to work, you first need to flash a different stock ROM. There have been reports that with 2.3.6 the method below may not work. Also some newer ROMs like B923 and above have locked boot loaders, the latest ICS ROM that you can use for this is B919
NEW: CWM 6.0.1.0 with touch-support: MOD EDIT: Link removed.
OLD: download recovery-u8860-en.img from here MOD EDIT: Link removed.
make sure there is no directory named "dload" on your micro-sd-card - if there is, rename or remove it.
Turn off Fast-Boot, and shutdown your phone. If you don't know how to turn off Fast-Boot, pull the battery (it can be found in different places in different ROMs)
Press and hold volume-up, volume-down and power-button at the same time.
You should now see your phones screen pink (="pink screen mode")
Now connect your phone with an USB cable to a computer
A few disks should be mounted, search for the one that has an "image" folder with an recovery.img and a boot.img inside it. rename the recovery.img to recovery-bak.img (or simular) and copy recovery-u8860-en.img there and rename it to recovery.img
WARNING: Don't use the file recovery_v8.img which is referenced in a few other guides. It crashes and leaves you with non bootable phone-states and/or with unfished backups which cannot be restored.
ROMs
Stock ROMs (& leaked stock ROMs)
Stock ROMs (or leaked stock ROMs) can be flashed like this:
Download and unpack onto your micro-SD Card like that: /mnt/sdcard/dload/UPDATE.APP (some ROMs also have UPDATE_CUST.APP, copy it to the same place. If you're update has a second dload_cust (or the like) folder, you need to flash it in a second round just as the first one, by renaming it to "dload")
Turn off Fast-Boot, and shutdown your phone. If you don't know how to turn off Fast-Boot, pull the battery (it can be found in different places in different ROMs)
Press and hold volume-up, volume-down and power-button at the same time.
If everything above was done correctly, you should be able to watch your phone upgrading now.
Alternative: Some ROMs have an option in the settings that lets you start the upgrade-procedure without step 2.) and 3.) from above. If you can find it, you can use that one.
You can find stock ROMs here:
International ROMs: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/technicaIndex.do?method=gotoProductSupport&productId=3834&tb=1
Chinese ROMs (can be changed to english): http://www.huaweidevice.com/cn/technicaIndex.do?method=gotoProductSupport&productId=3884&tb=1

(thanks to user det-happy for pointing it out to me)
The most important Stock-ROM in my eyes (as base for most custom ROMs there are) is B919, find it here:

NEW: Rooting method for stock ICS B919/B923/B924 (and perhaps others older ICS)

For people running linux on their computers, I've created an adapted version of this root tool:
kaefert.is-a-geek.org/huawei_honor/HuaweiHonorRootTool_LinuxVersion.7z
OLD: Theres a nice guide explaining how to root and flash+enable google-apps here: (but don't take the recovery from there but from above. explanation also above) - only use this if the new method above doesn't work for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22688341&postcount=53
Custom ROMs
To flash custom ROMs:
download their .zip file and put it somewhere on your sd-card
boot into your custom recovery: turn off phone completly, then Long press volume up + power button (for installation of custom recovery see top of this post)
factory reset / wipe everything (not always necessary, but to be on the save side. Some ROMs will not work in some cases if you don't wipe first, however the other way round is also possible, there are custom ROMs that will NOT work if you wipe, best look at the instructions from where you downloaded the custom ROM..)
flash update zip -> choose zip from sd card.

Custom Kernels
I found a custom kernel that adds the option to overclock up to 2GHz. I'm used it running at 1.8GHz and it didn't seem to be any more unstable than before (I'm using the MIUI ROM which is a little bit instable all by itself already)
MOD EDIT: Link removed since you need to register to download the kernel, I also attached it MOD EDIT: Link removed to make it easier for you.
I also managed to build (and deploy) the 3.0.8 kernel sources provided by huawei myself, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23505650
With the help of the writer of rvoix I managed to adept our kernel in a way that rvoix works, but for the moment only mono so both parties mixed together in one channel (but recorded from the line, not only from the mic like most apps do). I attach the kernel that works with rvoix: View attachment boot_voc2.img.
Or for people wanting to build their kernels themselfs, here's the patch: http://code.google.com/p/rvoix/sour...pdragon/kernel/huawei_honor_u8860_rvoix.patch
UPDATE: Since our kernel sources don't work with B919 and later (non functional camera and wifi) I decided to go the other way round and modify the rvoix app to work with our kernel instead of adapting the kernel to work with the app. Here are the results: http://code.google.com/p/rvoix/downloads/detail?name=rvoix_mod_kaefert_v2.apk --> call recording that should work with all huawei honor 4.0.3 ROMs!
Various pointers
Adapting Chinese ROMs
Adding Google Apps (like the Market) --> Download zip from here http://goo-inside.me/gapps and flash it with recovery
Remove unwanted chinese system apps --> I do it with QtADB --> http://qtadb.wordpress.com/ But I guess you can also do it with some root app management apps
Change to languages that are not choosable in the standard language setting --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale
Reading chinese sites
People who don't use google chrome or the chromium project (yet) probably don't know, that it has a really nice built-in translating feature, thats very useful for finding your way arround all these chinese (or russian) websites, and much better then using translate.google.com (or other such services) manually with other browsers.
Miscellaneous
Silent Huawei camera (ICS)
I was annoyed one day by all the noises the huawei camera simulates. Therefore I investigated and found out how to make it silent.

UPDATE
Sorry guys, but there won't be any updates by me anymore. I've moved on to Sony Xperia Z. The notoriosly low memory problem finally did it. (And Ingress)
There's a newer list of custom ROMs here:

Hi guys.
I've just cleaned this thread and would like to remind everyone about some points, so that they're not repeated in the future, and explain all the missing links you may notice.
Warez is strictly forbidden on XDA. Please do not link to websites that provide it, or to ROMs that contain pirated apps.
Kernels are licensed under the GPL. This means that the kernel's source should be provided. If it is not, it's illegal and will be treated as warez as far as XDA is concerned. In simpler terms: if you're posting a link to a ROM that contains a kernel, or a kernel, make sure the kernel's source is available and link to it as well.
Recoveries that aren't based on stock and that use a zImage (which is covered by the GPL) must also be provided along with the source.
Links to competing or commercial websites are not allowed. Links to websites that require registration to access downloads are also not allowed (there are exceptions, please see rule #11 for more info.)
Credits must be given, and you must have permission to share the work. Assuming that you do: if this goes against the point above, you may mention the member/website without linking directly to his work. Point #2 still applies - a link to the kernel's source must be provided if necessary.
I realize this may have caused links to your favorite custom ROMs to be removed, and I apologize about that. Many of you clearly put a lot of effort into building, maintaining and helping with this index. However, all posts must respect the rules first and foremost.
Please PM me if you have any questions or if you need further clarification.
Thanks for understanding.
Hey thanks so much for helping with this. I followed your guides and managed to get my Honor rooted and on an ICS version. Thanks so much.

You're welcome. However, for the future, if theres nothing you want to say but to give thanks to someone for a post above yours, don't answer with a post of your own, but just use the "thanks" button. Thats what it was made for.
However if there are some questions or some obscurities in my post, feel free to ask.

Well, I've been using it for 2 days now. I wouldn't call it stable, it has some rough edges, sometimes some system app crashes (like in the beginning I had a problem with the SMS-app), and I've had 2 complete system crashes (forced reboot) while running oruxmaps for navigation & gps-logging with my byclicle.
Check with you, if i installed the custom recovery, and root, can i revert back to stock by flashing via the settings menu or the vol/power button combination and stock rom in load directory?

Well the settings menue doesn't contain the huawei upgrade option in every ROM (for example not in the MUIU ROM), but the volumn up+down while booting will probably work, I haven't tried though. The upgrade directory however has to be call "dload", not "load".
To revert back to a previous ROM I find it much better to use the nandroid backup and recover options that every recovery image I saw yet contains. However be careful, the recovery-v8.img posted on some other places is instable and crashes before the backup is finished. you won't be able to recover such an incomplete backup. Always check if you have some backup complete message, it should NOT reboot automatically after making a backup.

Well the MIUI ROM has much more configuration options, for example you have a statusbar settings page where you can choose between default battery icon, percentage number or the top pixel row in green. Or also the MIUI theme chooser is really nice.
Another useful thing is the permission manager thats included that (if you config it that way) asks you whenever an app tries to use a permission that its defined to require. for example if you have an app that has the permission to send sms then the permission manager will ask you the first time that the app really sends an sms if you want to allow or deny it, and also if you want to save your choice or if it should ask next time again.

Hmm. Well the only ideas I have:
1.) Theres a 2G+3G / 2G only switch, in the MIUI ROM I linked in my first post you can reach it like this:
Home Screen --> Settings --> More... (4th point under the heading Wireless & Networks) --> Mobile Networks --> Only 2G-Networks
If that switch is on, than obviously your phone won't connect to a 3G network
2.) Your not in range of a 3G network?
Apparently there is bootloop issue for the newly released MIUI ROM 2.3.23 over at MOD EDIT: Link removed.
My experience is that I got stuck at the splashscreen as well.
I have download another at MIUI main site : MOD EDIT: Link removed.
and it works OK. Some portions of the UI are with Chinese texts and a few Chinese apps but overall still OK.

The ROMs that I know of and that I've tried you find in the first post. I found the loader (=desktop) of the non-MIUI ROMs to be faster and snappier. (However, the MIUI is more feature-rich)
Okay thanks alot I think I'm gonna give MIUI a try. Downloaded the latest version from the MIUI website. Have you tried any CM Release?

[Q] root for dummies - Samsung Galaxy S GT-19000

Hi, I have scoured the web for information but several hours later I am none the wiser.
I would like to root my device in order to optimize its performance. I am super confused about: cf-root, mobile/pc odin, android version, etc. I still have no idea what is appropriate for my device. :crying: Please point me in the right direction.
I have found may threads out there with very detailed instructions, but I can't figure out if that's what I need. I'm apparently on Gingerbread, but what do I need now? The Icecream, the other one?
Reason for rooting: phone too slow with so many apps loading themselves in the background. I want to be able to prevent all these [expletive deleted] apps from loading themselves automatically. I also want to remove the stock apps I don't need (but can't now remove). I'm tired of factory resetting every other week to improve performance.
Ultimate purpose: phone, sms, whatsapp, news. That's it. I don't need 3d porn or anything. My needs are extremely minimal.
Thanks for any pointers! :good:

Thanks Sewrizer. I'd rather brick the phone than pay for the service. I already have a more recent phone, so this is more of a second device. It's just that I like the typing better so I haven't completely stopped using it. I guess I'm sort of relishing the idea of an experiment with it as well.
Do you have a link to instructions for the above? If it works for your friend, it's good enough for me.
Unless I hear something back, I'm getting ready to try this:

thanks a lot.
which cf-root?
Thanks Sewrizer. As it happens these are the instructions I started with, and from which a lot of confusion arose (I can't post urls yet).
The first link is to Odin3 v1.85, but I have found Odin3 v1.87. Not sure if there is a later version. It says somewhere that the latest version is best.
The second link is to a series of posts with many download links. Somewhere down the page it states that if you're confused, then:
First, go to Settings -> About phone -> Build number. It should say something like FROYO.xxJPy. It's primarily the JPy that we are interested in. Try to match that with a download link available in this (and the next few) posts. Some of the downloads dont just have JPy file name format, but are called xx_xxx_JPy.
Let me explain that. Samsung isn't always very precise in naming/marking their different (leaked) firmwares. CF-Root's are modified kernels, the filenames explain in more detail which exact firmware ROM the base kernel was taken from, for those experts who understand.
If you are not one of those people, go back to the JPy thing. The "y" in JPy is 0-9, A-Z. If they run out of numbers, they use letters. So A would be 10 (9 + 1), while Z would be 35 (9 + 26). Find the one that is closest to yours, if yours is not present, and flash that one.

Well, my build number is of the form GINGERBREAD.zsjv6, which doesn't fit the pattern described (I don't see any JPy, I see jv6), so which version of CF-Root should I download?

I think u should put your questions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877166
This topic is only for LiquidSmooth questions
About your question: Install BMM and do partition stuffs then you will be able to install 4 more custom ROMs on your phone :fingers-crossed:
But first, read this great tutorial (including videos)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602229
System 6 Error when loading Nano/mini Gapps on LS v32 Atrix2
I got brave today, after much reading on the forums and watching Tech ArnY rooting videos and BMM 0.3.4 - Great information.
Here are the steps that I took today and their results:
1.) Rooted the Atrix 2 MB865 (AT&T) that has OTA ICS 4.0.4 ROM. Rooting was successful,
2.) Post install of MBB 0.3.4 and SuperUser, I kept the ICS 4.0.4 ROM on System 1 of the phone.
3.) Next, following Tech Arn Y's teaching, I was able to successfully flash LiquidSmooth (AcePort-LS-KK-Milestone-3.2-edison.zip) onto System 3 post wipe clean /dalvik, et cetera and successful install.
4.) So far, so good. Next I attempted to load GAPPS from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942). Again, post check of MD5 check sum for both mini and nano GAPPS - no issues.
5.) While attempting to flash either the mini or nano GAPPS onto the Atrix 2 into System 3, it shows the following (E: Error in /ext/pa_gapps-modular-nano-4.4.4-20141121-signed.zip) (Status 6) Installation aborted.
6.) I can boot into either ROM without issues, however, even after a reflash of System 3 and again successful install of LS-KK-Miestone 3.2, GAPPS gives Status 6 install error.
Looking for clues in these forums, but I have not come across anything yet. Any/all help would be very much appreciated!
@Starrider17 I'm betting your gapps are too large for your partition size. Find the PA gapps thread and download the pico gapps then try again. If it fails again the PA gapps will generate a log and place it on your SD card to tell you why it failed.

Thanks 1BadWolf for the reply. At first, I thought that the size of the GAPPS was perhaps the issue, but it did not end up to be the case. After continuing my search in XDA Forums (a wealth of great information here without doubt!), I stumbled upon a video that explained Status 6 and Status 7 errors which are the most common when flashing GAPPS post ROM into any phone. In my case, here is the summary of the events:
1.) Flashed pa-gapps mini 4.4.4 (at 229 mbytes ) - Status 6 error.
2.) Wipe clean System 3 and then flashed pa-gapps-nano 4.4.4 (at 120 mbytes) 2x - Status 6 error.
3.) Being somewhat frustrated, and yet challenged, I took the clue for the status 6 error and by chance, I grabbed the Slim_mini-gapps 4.4.4 (at 65 mybtes) - Gapps successfully loaded!
4.) Wanting to confirm whether the issue lives in the size of the GAPPS - or - something in one of the scripts (Meta-INF > com > google > android > update-binary or update-script), I went ahead and did another Wipe-Clean and flashed Slim-normal-gapps 4.4.4 (at 183 mbytes) - Gapps successfully loaded
Summary: In business and in life, something a solution or a work-around is found and implemented without knowing the root cause!
Hopefully, the documenting of my journey here will be beneficial to someone down the road just as many of the posting in this forum have been (and continue to be) to me too!

Hey guys, thanks for trying out my Liquidsmooth port and offering your feedback. Unfortunately, I'm no longer able to work on the existing ports or even lollipop since development has completely died down.
This is because our current recovery, BMM isn't able to boot any lollipop rom and it's the only working one we have. All developers and supporters have moved on pretty much, so all you can do is just play around with what's there. I'm still kinda around with my A2, but don't have the time to do anything anymore since I've moved onto a newer device, work, life, etc.
If you want someone to blame for this, firstly blame Motorola for the locked bootloader and then blame Google for making 5.0 have enforced SELinux which is why we can't boot any LP rom. Aside from that, this device is amazing to have and I hope you all have a wonderful time with it.

Hi guys,
First, thank you very much for all these up-to-date builds.
I've install Ubuntu Touch, the last Nightly, the last 2.2 and the last 2.1 (available on your site) with MultiROM on my Nexus 5. Unfortunately, all FirefoxOS installations have the same problem : my SIM card is not detected. Neither Ubuntu Phone nor Android 5 have this issue. Does anyone already seen that ? Any clue on how to fix that problem ? I'm also French with "Free" French network, in case that could help.
Thanking you in advance,

HOW TO INSTALL FFOS on your NEXUS 5 with MultiROM (Tuto for Beginner)
Hello dear excited non developer free fellow,
If like me, you want to try Mozilla FFOS on a phone and are tempted by trying a multiboot system on a Nexus 5, here is how I did, in just one evening.
First, I discovered this page, from Tasssadar
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/mod-multirom-v24-t2571011
and then, this one, well the one you are coming from actually, from Vosky,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/nightly-firefox-os-t2960953
I read the first page of Tassadar thread, and I didn't understand anything! It's normal if you do to, there are many words you need to get familiar with. Read it (not more than the first page for now), don't worry, we will come back to it later.
Then, you have to read all Vosky's Thread from page 1 to 9 (maybe after will be good too but at the date I'm writing, they are not written yet . A lot of your questions will be answered. Don't assume that my explanations will be enough, you need to have a bigger picture of the process, you need to read all these pages.
First, it gets clearer how you'll download FFOS. You have to download from http://ffos.vosky.fr/ from the Recovery column. Today, saturday 2015/05/09 you have three choices, two quiet stables versions called "Pre-releases", V2.1 is the one to choose if you don't have Android Lollipop, and V2.2 if you have Android Lollipop, then, if you want to try the last features and help to detect bug, you can go for the last "Nightly builds" which are the latest work done by Mozilla's team on FFOS 3.0.
Good, now you need to go back reading Tasssadar's Thread. If their are still word that you don't understand, check what they mean. I didn't read much of this one because I decided to go for the easiest way. I followed the "Installation Via MultiROM Manager app". On the page of the app,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tassadar.multirommgr
there is a great video. You need to watch it before going further.
If you are as newebe than me in this case, after installing the app, you'll have a red warning saying something like "MultiROM Manager app couldn't get root access". No worries, you just need to unlock and root your Nexus 5.
For That, I follow Chainfire's Thread here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/nexus-5-cf-auto-root-t2507211
and this very precise video,
http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-root-and-unlock-the-google-nexus-5-xda-developer-tv/
I know it works for Android Lollipop V5.0 and V5.1 but earlier version, sorry, I don't know. Watch the video a first time entirely and then, watch it and pause after each step to catch up what they are doing. It's easy and very well explained. You'll need to download CF-Auto-Root here https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ . Look for the download link at the line Nexus 5.
Now, you can go back to the previous video, the one about MultiROM Manager app that you find here, remember,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tassadar.multirommgr
As you watch entirely before, you can follow it step by step, pausing sometime to catch up what they are saying. Read again "Installation Via MultiROM Manager app" paragraph on Tasssadar's Thread if a warning Kernel: doesn't have kexec-hardboot patch! in red letters appears. I install the default one called Stock 5.1 if I remember well (I have Android 5.1 installed on my Nexus 5).
Read again the beginning of my post to choose the FFOS version you need to download.
What is not said in the video is that when the download is finished, and he is going to Install, he is in an environment we are not so familiar, because they didn't explain earlier what it is. It's the recovery mode. You reach it after shutting down your phone and start your phone with pushing the down volume button. You'll find the little robot you've met earlier to Install CF-Auto-Root, you choose Recovery mode with up or down volume and select it with power button, then you will recognize what he is saying in the video... clicking on "Advance" and stuff.
The end is so easy, as far as you know where you put your zip file of FFOS in your Nexus 5.
Enjoy!
And if you want to install Ubuntu Touch, I don't need to give you any explanation, it's so easy. You just go back in your Android, in MultiROM Manager app and after choosing the Ubuntu you want, you click on Install.
I guess, my only request would be to ask our great devs Vosky and Tasssadar to work together in order to offer us a so well integration of FFOS than Ubuntu Touch inside the MultiROM Manager app. It would be perfect!
Don't forget to Thank Vosky, Tasssadar and Chainfire by clicking on the "Thanks" button (a thumb) at the bottom of their first post on their Thread, the button will become yellow. They are doing a great job! Tell them!
Now, if you have a problem to install FFOS or Ubuntu Touch on your Nexus 5, don't come after me, I can't help more than that. However, I'm sure if you ask a polite question on this Thread that has not been yet answered thousands time, you'll get a quick answer!
Enjoy freedom.
[Now, I have to figure out how to import my contact into Mozilla FFOS V3.0 from my Mozilla Thunderbird 31.6 without being friend of Google, and that my dear seems way much more complicated. A simple usb cable and a sync or even import button are out of dream today... how weird!]
HOW TO UPDATE your FFOS ROM !
It's not more complicated than installing. Download here, http://ffos.vosky.fr/ , the FFOS version you want, in the recovery column. Copy it in your phone.
You return in the recovery mode. You reach it after shutting down your phone and start your phone with pushing the down volume button. You'll find the little robot you've met earlier again, you choose Recovery mode with up or down volume and select it with power button, then you have to follow this path : click on Advanced - MultiROM - List ROMs - select your previous FFOS ROM and click on Flash ZIP - select the zip of the FFOS ROM you've just downloaded - SWAP- click on Reboot.
You've just updated your FFOS ROM!
screenshot and phone answering?
Hello,
I installed FFOS3.0, the same nightly build, on two nexus 5, one for me, one for my mum.
Two questions : once, my mum took a screenshot of an app, but she can't remember how, and I didn't manage so far to take any with my nexus.
How do you take a screenshot with FFOS 3.0 on your nexus 5?
[Then, don't ask me how is that possible but the way we both answer a phone call is different. I just have to click on on of the two buttons, a red on the left and a green a green on the right to decline or answer the call. She has to slide a button to left (red) or right (green) to do the same. How to choose if you want two buttons and click or one button to slide?]
I found the solution : if I switch on the developer mode, I have the two buttons but if I'm not in developper mode, I have the switching button.
Thank you,
A bigger firefox when the phone start?
Hello,
It's not a big deal but, at the starting of the phone, could the nice animated firefox be a bit bigger?
I like my firefox but I can't see him enough.
"Based on Mozilla Technology" is at a good size, but the animated firefox is way too small. If it could take all the screen, it woud be great! Don't you think?
Best regards dear mozilian,

Yes it works with MR. Read the main thread for more feedbacks.
Finally I'm using this Rom!
Basically it's cool but you know it has a long way to get much more stable & usable.
First of all I agree with that guy who suggested big Firefox animated on the boot screen.
Then I know this a new & fresh project but it needs more debugging.
For example at the first when I was trying to connect to ma WiFi after I touched the join button it takes more than 5mins to join ma network!
After that I downloaded some apps from store like Telegram, when I was trying to filled the blanks with ma phone number touchscreen didn't works & I already can't login with ma number cuz jumping from one blank to another blanks for registration has bug & I can't fill them!
In settings we've lots of problems,I can't manually change ma screen brightness from that swipe bar of it so I've to tick the auto brightness!
& also have a same problem in any swipe bars in menu like volume & alarms up & down when i touch them nothing changes!
Sometimes ma phone crash (stopped working) on menu & some apps like browser & I've to wait for response to continue ma job!
______________
There is more you know but I didn't remember all !
I really like this OS & in future hope so use this OS as ma major Rom on ma N5!
PLEASE WORK ON IT!!
and sorry fo ma bad English ?
Sent from my Nexus 5
