[Q] T-mobile G2x vs ATT Captivate(galaxy s)

i am confused between the 2
i need to get 1 of these for my loved 1
if i go with captivate i get Super AMPLED Plus screen
if i go with G2x i get Tegra 2 awsomeness
please help me through this problem,as both these are at comparable prices where i live,please dont suggest me about gettin galaxy s2 as that is way out of my range for the time being

I have NO experience using the Captivate, so I can't help you with a comparison. But I can tell you that the G2X is the fastest phone with the most visually stunning graphics I've ever seen.
If you read this board, you'll read about some people that have had no problems with their g2x (I'm one of those), and others that have been plagued with problems. I dunno...for me, there's no question. I would buy this phone again if I had it to do over.

Yes, high def games seem to run smoother and appear brighter than on other phones I've seen. Your experience may differ, as this is my opinion.

Also the galaxy s captivate only has a super amoled... not a plus. Big difference.
Also big diferences with a single core vs dual core.
Also galaxy s has no reliable GPS.
The galaxy s has a blue hue also which looks horrible despite the deep blacks.
G2x has its fair share of problems too but they are just software related. I would recommend either waiting for the g2x to be officially updated and re-released or just grab the latest CM7 build....
Or wait for the Galaxy S2 to hit AT&T

Captivate has no GPU? LoL
Correct: All Galaxy S series (t-mo, at&t, verizon) phones have a GPU. PowerVR SGX540. Actually it's on par with G2x's Tegra 2 Geforce ULV.

You're right, I'm an idiot. The Galaxy S does have the PowerVR SGX540 gpu.
I apologize for any harm done.
I still don't believe the Captivate's gaming abilities are on par with the G2X when you consider both performance and efficiency. However, it is a top-notch gpu, and I'll retract that argument in my post.
And as far as offering my opinion before reading up on the Captivate? First, yes, I admittedly posted 1 line of incorrect information. All of the other information in my post is 100% accurate. Second, if you took time to read for yourself, you will notice that I specifically stated that I had no experience using the Captivate, so I couldn't provide a comparison between the 2 phones. I only posted spec differences as they were listed on the phone service provider's website. Why did I hurt your feelings?

I work for ATT and personal think the captivate is garbage.
We nicknamed it the Craptivate.
CPU is slow comapred to Tegra 2. Hell the hummingbird seemed slow compaired to the Snapdragon 1GHZ
Captivates camera sucks and has no flash
Touchwiz (samsungs skin) sucks
captivates GPS SUCKS
Captivate is 3G G2X is 4G
Super AMOLED has nice blacks but horrible whites.
If your looking at an ATT phone look at the Infuse 4G.
I currently have the G2x and the Infuse 4G. I like the G2x much better.
The Infuse 4G is pretty cool. And i hear the Galaxys S2 is pretty awesome.
But for the most part i dont think Samsung has put out a good phone since their Flipphones back in the late 90's early 00's

I have the G2x (or rather the Optimus 2x, same phone p-999 only it isnt T-mo branded)
A friend of mine has the Captivate and its no contest. Go with the G2x.
G2x has a better build (if you can find one without light bleed issues) and a much better feel in the hand compared to the Captivate.
Tegra 2 is a beast. I come from the Nexus One and then the Nexus S and i can assure you that the G2x blows those two pure google phones out of the water simply due to the Tegra.
Also, I have a Sensation 4G I'm playing around with to see if i should sell the G2x and right now im heavily in favour of the G2x simply because it is rooted and i've got custom kernels and ROMs on it. In fact I am only waiting this week for HTC to come clean with the bootloader before i sell it (temp-root isnt cutting it for me).
The G2x has a better screen and the Tegra is way better at processing multimedia than the Snapdragon (Google Maps app loads and processes map data 3 to 5 seconds faster on the 1GHZ Tegra than on the 1.2 GHZ Snapdragon).
Get a G2x, youre not going to regret it.

I would definitely go with the G2x. I've owned a Vibrant (which is very identical to the Captivate) and it has GPS issues which the Captivate is known for having also and the software has a great amount of lag unless you root it and install VOODOO LAG FIX. The Vibrant was a great phone once rooted minus the GPS. Just to be fair I can almost bet you money that if you post this in the Captivate forum (if you haven't already done so) that even Captivate owners would say the G2x is the better phone out of the two. We have the hardware to support just about any software android throws at us in the future. This phone is almost future proof.

Samsung phone choices...I need clarity

I am about to sell my Dell Streak and three replacements seem to be coming out very shortly.
Samsung Hercules
Samsung Galaxy SII HD
Samsung Note
Right now I am confused on the release dates of each of these items and availability to T-Mobile users. I don't want to get involved in another ATT propriety phone that will have bandwidth issues. Long of it short, when are the release dates on the last two phones, and what are the bandwidths that will be available? Is pricing available on the last two also?

the Galaxy Note is due out in November sometimes, the phone is gigantic, 5.6" not sure if you want that, might as well get a tablet if it was me.
Samsung Galaxy S2 HD is only going to be release to Korea soon, no words when it will be available in the rest of the world

I knew the Hercules would be a non-issue phone, but I wanna make sure I am getting the best phone for me.
Will the Note be available on T-Mobile bands? The size doesn't bother me, it is similar to a Dell Streak's dimensions and I believe even lighter in weight.

I m also a bit confused on the processor difference between the SII versions and apparently the Hercules has an oddball processor? Is this of real consequence or more nit picking?

it's the latter, people are just nit picking, and being biased by some synthetic bench scores
as for the Note, they have not yet released enough Tech Spec details to indicate the network type
I'm considering getting a note as well, it has its merits for its size, and screen resolution.
makes good for work, without carrying a heavy or large tablet/laptop with you

Samsung has recently announced new generation of Exynos 4212. It uses 32nm fab process and they claim that 50% increase in 3D graphics performance. Has to be more power efficient. No real time tests done yet obviously, but I think we can trust Samsung on hardware internals. They gave 2 stunning SoCs in GS and GS2. Not sure which phone(s) will have this internals.
Add to this they introduced 20nm fab for DDR3 RAM.
Over that add new camera modules. 1/2.3-inch 16 MP CMOS sensor with backside illumination. 1/2.3 should be same like normal point-n-shoot cams. This they claim can shoot 60fps video at 8MP.
No idea which phones will have those. Sure GS3 will have the cam module and DDR. Not too sure about SoC as they are in-line to pump out Q-Core with Mali-T604 GPU.

As previously stated I much doubt anything official is released; merely speculations. Bet there are countless blogs speculating, "leaking" or such where you can get your information.

I just hope they don't go over in screen size. 4.3 is perfect to me with a 720p resolution. After seeing a Gnex it looks crisp as hell probably the first screen that I've seen that looks better than an iPhone screen.

In Engadget people are presuming that the new model has surfaced somewhere surfing a web server, but it told that it would be a little lower resolution than Galaxy Nexus (<1280x720)
That's okay, it also gives me hope that it would be smaller than Galaxy Nexus which is slightly too massive. Presumed 1024x700 in a 4,3" screen would be very well balanced, I'd say and the body as small as possible..

I think it will be waterproof (ZAGG), 2GB ram and quad-core.

Pros – Exynos quad core 32nm processor that’s LTE capable, Ceramic casing, bezel-less design, ICS (rumoured to be stock vanilla not TW) 4.6+"large screen.
Cons – It’s all one big rumour for now. Plus will likely have TW.
HTC One X:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 4.7” screen, 32GB storage plus 23GB dropbox, Bluetooth 4, 8MP 1080p recording. ICS, Available Now. Excellent Camera features.
Cons – No micro sd support, look of camera, heard dropbox only valid for 2 years. Debatable whether sense 4 falls in here.
LG 4x HD:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 4.7” screen, 8MP camera w/1080p recording, good battery 2140mAh, NFC, Bluetooth 4, micro sd card ICS
Cons –MWC video demo seemed laggy
Asus Pad phone:
Pros – Versatile new phone concept that can fit in a tablet, dual core 1.5 GHz Krait a15 28nm processor, desirable 4.3 screen . Q2 release.
Cons – Possibly a pricy combo.
Droid Fighter:
Pros - Large 3300mAh battery, big 4.6 MP 720p screen, LTE, Bluetooth 4, ICS
Cons – possible rumour, nothing really known. Motoblur.
Motorola Atrix 3:
Pros – Tegra3 quin core, large 3300mAh battery, desirable 4.3” 720p screen, 10 MP camera. ICS
Cons – Almost all based on rumour with very little confirmed. Motoblur.
Fujitsu F12arc:
Pros – Tegra3 quin processor, highly water and dust resistant, Big 4.6” screen, 13 MP camera , 4GLTE (??? Thought it was incompatible with tegra 3 so far.)ICS
Cons – Unknown battery life, still ironing out ICS development glitches, maybe Q3 release or later.
Panasonic Eluga Power:
Pros - A fairly good processor 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, Big 5” screen, water and dust proof, 8 MP camera, Fast Charge, ICS
Cons –Mediocre battery 1800 mAh, global launch details still speculated.
Hauwei Ascend D Quad:
Pros – Fast quad core, lovely 4.5” screen 1080p recording, good size 2500mAh battery ICS
Cons – Quality unproven, GPU unknown, might be a bit late to the game Q3-Q4

Because I'm on att, I would have to pick Galaxy s3, atrix 3, HTC one x, LG 4x HD, and Asus padfone in that order. nice gathering of all the rumors btw!

Those are good choices. Tegra 3 is lovely and I hold a lot of respect for it, but the Exynos really intrigues me and 32nm will likely provide good power efficiency.
My list is similar Galaxy S3, Atrix 3, Fujitsu F12arc, HTC One X, Asus Padfone. Although the LG4x HD could easily be swapped for HTC One X. Optus didn't get any of the Atrix series though so I have to see what ends up here in Australia.

Im eager to see the eluga power.
Some more pros and cons for it:
Pro: Small form factor: As big as a galaxy nexus but with 5" Display, On Screen Buttons
Con: apparantly no LED Flash, no MHL or other video out, fixed battery
I have to add, that the device is ip57 certified - that means it is actually waterproof not only water resistant.

Good to see others adding additional info.
So voting for a tougher version, water proof version of the galaxy note with what should be a greater a15 version duo core s4 snapdragon processor is a great choice. A processor that is suppose to stand toe to toe with tegra 3. Or surpass it if certain benchmarks are to be believed.
The waterproof phones (I believed the F12arc also says waterproof, I don't list until I know it is) are now getting competitive processors, unlike the defy. Phones with great build and processors should always rank high on our lists. Glad to see someone voting that way. Just hope we get to see it. Aussie land hasn't seen the Razr Maxx yet, so I can only pray for the Eluga power or F12arc.

Anyone else want to speculate on the Samsung Galaxy S IV?

Just a harmless conversation based on what the next Samsung flagship phone might receive based on trends of the mobile industry. You can offer your own opinions and/or critiques.
With the Nexus 4, sporting a very powerful S4 Snapdragon quad processor, 320 Adreno GPU, 2 GB of RAM and the standard HD display, it's sure to be the strongest thing we have until the HTC Butterfly (now dubbed the HTC DNA) comes (reportedly to Verizon) sporting a 1080p screen, probably the same processor and RAM, as well as a bigger battery.
It's clear that the competition within the Android ecosystem isn't as monopolized by Samsung like it was a year or two ago - at least in terms of quality products. The Galaxy S II stayed not only as the top Android phone, but the top phone period for almost a whole year. It seems that HTC and LG have stepped up their game and are putting out functioning, competitive products. The Galaxy S III kind of fell off the performance radar within 4-5 months. (comparatively speaking)
Samsung has been reportedly testing 3 GB RAM on experiment phone models; if that made it to the final product of the GSIV, that would make it a trend-setter in that regard. It's also going to come with the new-generation 13 megapixel camera module, which is slated to desolate any popular 8 MP camera shooters on the market - such as the HTC One X, Galaxy S III (the worst of the bunch on the front-facing camera) or iPhone 5 with its color-reproduction and low-light performance.
As for the processor, I hope they throw in the ultra-powerful Exynos 5450 (the Cortex-A15 quad-core) rated at around 2 GHz, it will absolutely eat the already unbelievably fast S4 Krait quad in the upcoming megaphones for breakfast. The Mali-658 GPU from the aforementioned would probably also be on par, if not better than that in the iPad 4's A6X's GPU. Last but not least, anyone else hoping we'll see a beautiful Super AMOLED HD Plus display (or whatever they'll call it) with full 1080p?
All of these rumors and speculation sound reasonable at this point, given what we've been seeing in the market place. If it all turned out to be true, the Galaxy S IV would be leaps and bounds above any smartphone upon its release and maybe easily throughout the year subsequent to its release. I'm actually excited that the competition within Android is picking up steam. The harder these companies compete against each other, the more us, as consumers win.

In the next generation phones, most of them would be compatible with nfc payments, like Google wallet or isis.
I expect faster processor and a minimum of 2 gb of ram.
Most likely, every phone will come in different screen sizes. So you can choose a particular phone with your choice of screen size.

Why would they use Tegra 3 chips - which are only Cortex-A9's and the fact that Samsung develops their own chipset means they would opt for their own before another chipset commonly found in its competitors.

I sure hope they don't use the tegra chipset. That'll make them depend on nVidia for updates.

more batery life
It's great that a lot of attention is put into adding better specs (RAM, CPU, features like NFC, etc), but my biggest concern is that they' don't pay enough attention to battery life. I don't understand why they don't invest more in this field.
Here's to hoping that Samsung will care more about this and innovate in this area.
