if you dial your own number from the phone, it will also get you to VM

I recenty (Friday) picked up my Inspire. I sold my iphone 4(YEAH) and paid the out of contract price for the inspire.
Seems now i have to re-establish my voice mail inbox.
I have already flashed it to CM7. I called ATT and they said hold down the nubmer 1 key, and it will take you to your VM and you can setup form there.
on CM7 that won't work. I went to the phone preferences and checked the box for 1 to take you to VM and no dice.
I can't manually set it up by calling my number as the box isn't setup to begin with. From my phone it goes to fast busy, and from a different phone it rings and rings.
thanks,
Dialing 1 does nothing more then calls your own phone number. To setup 1, setup speed dialing to your own number for 1.
Never had an iPhone so not sure but I have read something about visual voicemail needing to be changed to standard vm when moving from an iPhone.
Settings calls. Voicemail number. Enter it there and 1 will work in cm7

Yep, that didn't work I tried that first. Gonna try getting ATT on the phone.
Thanks!
You can also set up YouMail or Google Voice as a visual voicemail client.
I did the exact same thing! (thanks craigslist)
You have to have ATT reset your entire voicemail inbox... which they shouldve done. iPhone overrides ATT's default voicemail plan and replaces it with its visual voicemail. So after I had ATT straighten that out, they gave me the generic voicemail box number that should've worked. Well, it didnt - go figure. However, simply putting my cell phone's number in the voicemail number settings instead did the trick. Holding one works, and I get all voicemails pushed through.
Anyone else yave this problem? On some stored numbers in my contacts when i click on the person it dials an m0111 befoe the regular number. But when i look at the contact before i press call the correct regular number is there. Its only when i hit call it tacks that on. The contacts are verizon numbers also. Ok the M is normal as it means mobile number that is being called. The last 1 in the 0111 is the start of the area code. Ex 1-201-52*-****. I called the verizon and they said it is trying to dial international for some reason....they want me to hard reset i said no im not doing that yet.
For some reason my voicemail doesnt work on my phone. I am using the miui rom and under the settings to put in a voicemail number I had my phone number there and it would connect to my voicemail box. I used that number because this rom made the number blank to begin with so I had to figure out a way to access my voicemails. I use att and do not know their access number for my voicemails. What should i do?
yep. on gingerbread sense rom, its your phone number....so, yeah
also, there is a MIUI sticky for future reference.
Thanks for you're help but it actually wasn't supposed to be my number. Its a different one. I found it by using the number under the forwarding options that says what number it would forward calls to once enabled

Att uses a seperate voicemail number so they can deduct it from your monthly amount due to it not being and att number. I always change the default number to my cell number so I don't get charged for the call to voicemail.
Voicemail Issues A Month After Setup
My girlfriend and I both have an HTC Inspire through AT&T. I put the MIUI ROM on both of our phones about a month ago. I set up the voicemails according to our cell phone numbers and it worked for awhile. But now when we both try calling our voicemail box it just rings and eventually says the caller is not available. This has been going on for the past week. Would this be an AT&T issue of a fix that can be done in MIUI? Please help, I cannot find a forum on this topic! Thanks for your help!

I have CoreDroid Sensation v2.5 and the voicemail number on my phone atm is 901 but for my network its 443 i have tryed changing this in settings via settings>call>voicemail settings but it wont change, can anyone help me with this please?
Did you make any progress on this? I'm having the exact same problem, want to change from 901 to 443.
Says its changed successfully but it doesnt change.
I'm running android revolution hd 3.6.11.
This seems to be a pretty common problem but as yet I haven't seen a solution.
The number you dail to get VM and the VM number are 2 different thing my calling number is 222 on the phone but the VN box number is +117958879890 Virgin ~UK
from the dialer type *#*#4636#*#*
select phone go down to SMSC click on refresh
What does it say??
just save the 443 as number 2 on the fast dial option if you can't work it out
Thanks for your reply, I've done as you suggested and got my actual voicemail number.
I'm not sure how that helps me though......
My issue is that I cannot change the number in settings via settings>call>voicemail settings. When I do change this it say's it's successfully changed but it hasn't. Every time someone leaves me a voicemail my phone tells me to call 901. I tried replacing it with the actual voicemail number, but no joy.
Surely there must be a way of changing this, even if it requires a hack.
Flashed the new LiquidSmooth ROM over the old one after a good wipe.
Turned phone back on and would hang at an activating screen, I'd just exit out.
I then noticed I couldn't send MMS and my voicemail number was something like 000-000-8273.
So went dialer>settings and entered my VM number in. Rebooted. Voicemail works,MMS works but I noticed my MEID # is missing the last digit. My IMEI number has 15 digits my MEID has 14 ..does this matter? I haven't found anything other than that wrong with the phone.

I had the same thing with Liquidsmooth. No problems though.
Flashed to another rom and the IMEI returned back to normal.
Don't think you have to do anything unless you have problems receiving and calling people, texting, etc.
my MEID is one digit short as well and it works perfectly fine
