Stuck on E:verification failed. Please help - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So,
Got my brothers phone and its stuck on E:verification failed since I got it. He has no idea which rom was in on , rooted or not rooted. Nothing.
Its using the 3e recovery, but when I do install packages it gives me that error. I cannot go past it.
What is the solution here. I tried to read online about it, I found some threads on E:verification failed, but none relating to SGS4G. So I thought I should ask here.
Help me out please, I can take it into download mode and I have odin3 1.85 installed and It can detect the phone connected. So, what do do after this?
Would really appreciate your help.
Thanks
Jack

enjoy

or you can just odin dr honks bali 3.3uv kernel.

Thanks guys
But since I am not so comfortable with adb push n all, I am gonna try to odin that kernel as jager555 suggested.
So, I have to do this via the phone section of Odin? or something else?
EDIT: So found out that I had to do this via the PDA section instead. Did that, and now I have CWR, so now I can drop any rom in the sd card and install it from the CWR, right?

You can flash any froyo room, but if you want GB, you need to do a bit more. For GB, follow the GB starter pack. Only use sgs4g roms and make sure to follow the op in each ROM thread

Flashed a froyo detoxed rom from the developers sections and everything is back to normal
Thanks guys!

Sorry to beat a dead horse, bout to go insane

Ok, so i have had a samsung captivate since last summer. I just did the official froyo update the other day and it was successful with kies mini. I then decided to root it using super1click which also worked successfully. I have superuser, titanium backup with busybox installed, and super manager and terminal emulator. I also successfully got clockworkmod flashed and working.
My problem is that ive got the new cognition rom on my internal sd card, but when i try to flash it with cwm, i get the 3e recovery failure message. Ive been reading various sites today on how to fix this problem, but every site seems to tell me something different. I ask this question here, because it seems to be the most knowledgeable site to go to.
How do i get my rooted captivate, with all the above installed and running, to allow me to flash a new rom and possible a new kernal down the road? Im about to go insane trying to decipher through all the info all the different sites have said. Sorry to write such a novel on a tired subject, but im going crazy. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

If you would have done a search here then you would have found that you need to do one of 2 things.
1. Flash back to 2.1
2. Replace the 3e recovery with one that doesnt check for the sig.
I dont know how to replace the 3e recovery. I think ill go with flashing back to 2.1. Once i dl Odin and flash back to 2.1, then i can flash a new rom or a new kernel? Will it undo everything i've done so far? Thanks for the help.

Here is a link to the replacement recovery.
Make sure you have the right odin and that your 3 button works right.
Yesh doing this will wipe out everything. Make sure to back up. Do not back up system data at all as when you restore it, it can lead to major issues. Once done with a custom rom it will be wiped clean. You will have to redo contacts, email, and all other settings
Thanks. Would it be okay to just flash a new kernel like speedmod kernal and just use the stock rom? Is that possible to do while im on rooted 2.2? I like the rom just fine, i just want it faster mainly. Thanks again.

To be honest I am not sure. I only had the stock on for a few hours as it was just not that great compared to the 2.2.1 rom that I have been used to running. I need BT voice dial and the added exchange options so 2.2 was not really for me. If you want a stock feel but faster then I would go with COG or one of the other roms based on the kb1 rom.
So I've come to the conclusion that I should just flash back to 2.1 and go from there. I have odin downloaded, but I'm not certain how to use it. Do you guys think I should flash a custom rom from stock, or just flash a kernel with lag fix and delete the bloatware? Thanks.
first flash 2.1 stock to get rid of the damn 3e. custom roms dont replace that always. also most custom roms dont flash with odin.
get a stock rom. read the instructions, flash

If you are getting .zip signature errors when trying to flash a rom (because you are using 3e recovery) you will not be able to flash a kernel.
Supercurio did make a KB1 kernel that is installable via Odin. If you install that, you will also get CWM recovery. Then you can flash anything you want.
Either way you will need an Odin program. Either Odin One Click to flash back to stock 2.1 or Odin v1.7 to flash the Supercurio KB1 Kernel .tar file.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think the speedmod kernal is i9000 based which would cause a major headache/bootloop on the stock rom.

The problem is, the OP has no idea what he's doing. It sounds like he's wanting to flash to 2.1, then add a I9000 kernel. Since he's all over the place, it's hard to decipher what he's thinking.
To the OP. I'd HIGHLY suggest you look for the stickied "how to" video's by Connexxion. They will tell you what you need to do and show you EXACTLY how to do it. Invaluable info for the noobs.
Here is the link your looking for, download the installer zip file at the bottom of the first post. Extract to your fancy, use the install.bat file once extracted. Be sure to have the phone connect to the pc (DO NOT MOUNT) and have USB Debugging on.

I tried odin one click again today, but still nothing. All i want to do is flash back to 2.1, root, then flash a rom or custom kernel. Im losing my mind, any more help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ok no need to flash 2.1
get neldars kernel flashing app from the market
get a kernel for froyo without 3e recovery in the dev section. this one is great
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=547852&d=1300708475
use neldars app (edit) "sgs kernel flasher" or something to that effect. to flash this kernel
then flash cognition
you can also use odin3 but not the oneclick downloader without the .pit file and flash the same kernel placed in the pda slot.
when you installed keis mini, it installed new WRONG drivers (for odin)
reinstall the original other drivers.
BUT. in your OP all you wanted was to be able to flash COG or something.
ALL you have to do is fix your 3e recovery, SEVERAL people including myself have told you how to fix it. then CWM will work! you dont need a computer to fix 3e if you have root explorer (google it $) .
if you are going to flash a custom rom anyway dont bother going back to 2.1.
if you are going to stay stock, 2.2 is better anyway. (aside from 3e but staying stock dont matter)
you can also use odin3 but not the oneclick downloader without the .pit file and the same kernel placed in the pda slot.

well that doesn't make my whole post irrelivent. if he is rooted and has busy box he can use neldars kernel flasher. sorry if i over looked something.
Ok, well i got the aio toolbox, and i flashed back to stock. Now im running 2.1-update1. How do i go about rooting now? I cant seem to find a root file. Thanks.

[q] [q&a] !!devs!! I need advice on what to do!!

ok...i have a semi-bricked phone.. i mean semi-bricked because it's functional, but I can't seem to restore from my backups or flash other Roms in CWM recovery.
so, the story goes..it's a long story but please read!! i am in dire need of help!
I was on the latest Infused V2, and have previously tried CM7, S7, hellraised Roms, etc.
so I was kinda experienced in switching back and forth between Roms from CWM.
Yesterday I felt like trying bigfau's port of DlevROM 5.0, which i managed to flash successfully. I made a backup of my infused ROM. DlevROM was missing support for my language so I decided to switch back to infused. but then i remembered MIUI, which I never had tried before.
so I flashed MIUI successfully and played around with it. everything was working but i just didn't like MIUI, so i wanted to restore my backup that i had made earlier that day.
Now.. I had restored previously many times so I thought I knew what I was doing..
when i booted into recovery from MIUI, it was blue. then i remembered from my recovery from CM7 to Infused that I need to be on the same recovery (aka RED) as the one i made the back up in. So i booted back into MIUI, downloaded SGS kernel flasher, then flashed bedwa's Infusion.
I then booted into recovery and i was in RED CWM!
So i proceeded to restore my backup.
it checked md5 sum, it then went on to restore system. I thought it was going smoothly until it started to restore data. then it failed.
here is what CWM says.
Checking MD5 sums...
Restoring system...
Restoring data...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Error mounting /data/!
Skipping format...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Can't mound /data/!
yeah.. i don't know where I went wrong.. I've never encountered a problem with restoring from CWM..
I only had MIUI, an older version of Infused V2, and S7 in my sdcard so i tried to flash infused v2 and s7. neither worked. i mean they flashed, but i kept on going into a samsung logo bootloop...
so i re-flashed MIUI... so i'm on MIUI right now.. which i don't like =((
i'm only planning on keeping it until someone gives me a solution!!
I've asked for help previously and all I got was a "sorry, use ODIN to stock"
I've never used ODIN to go back to stock before so I don't know how to do it...
I've read up on the ODIN threads but most seemed to have problems with it...
Would Odin to stock (not gtg's ultimate unbrick) give me root and modded 3e? what exactly is it going to wipe? pictures?
thanks for your help... please help... i really don't like MIUI... i want to go back to Infused V2... or DlevROM once bigfau puts in the language support!
please help

Use this
This would give you root and modded 3e. Odin would wipe EVERYTHING
Just follow the instructions on the page and you should be fine. I've done it a couple times.
Don't worry too much. Its not bricked or anything like that.
Reboot in recovery, and flash the infused ROM that's on ur phone. This should work.
Thumb rule: When moving between ROMs, install the ROM clean, and then restore ur backup (of the same ROM) on top of it. It could be a disaster restoring backup of a different ROM.
Just fyi, I had the same problem trying to go back from MIUI... I've used the ODIN/Root+3e on numerous occasions to basically start over BUT it keeps all my files like pics, music, contacts etc. so don't be intimidated by it..it works. Once you've done that you can re-flash S7, V2 or whatever you want.
Make sure you've got your drivers installed (download samsung kies to do so) and when you open Odin, you right click and run as administrator then follow the instructions.
ok, thanks guys! I will give both a try! =)
Another Solution:
1. Use GTG ultimate unbrick with PIT file to restore partitions. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD GTG ULTIMATE UNBRICK FOR ODIN.
2. Flash community kernel v8 in Odin in order to root + clockwork mod. (Put the downloaded file in the PDA slot of odin)CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD COMMUNITY KERNEL FOR ODIN.
3. Flash whatever rom you want to use.
4. Restore your backup for that rom.
5. Enjoy.

ok guys..
i just tried GTG's odin back to stock (not ultimate unbrick)
computer recognized my phone,
folllowed every step to a TEE,
and then the phone rebooted itself and i saw the ATT bootscreen, so i was in a relief.
then after the att bootscreen the screen just went blank.... dark... pitch dark.. and nothing seems to work...
so i downloaded GTG's ultimate unbrick, and followed the instructions to a TEE and still the phone screen turns black right after the att bootscreen...
ok.. so what do i do now..??
Edit 1: So I booted into stock blue recovery, deleted all user data, and rebooted and it workedd!! yay~~ now push the community kernel and restore? right?

I'm superoneclick stupid; I've never used it. Does it install CWM? If not, you'll need to install CWM. One of the ways is through Krylon360's post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
Or installing a ROM/kernel that has CWM.
ROM Manager does not work for the SGS4G. In order to get a working CWM Recovery Menu you will need to ODIN a custom kernel with CWM already installed. If you want to stay on froyo you will need drhonk's Bali v3.3 kernel, and if you want to update to gingerbread you can follow FB's GB Starter Pack guide. All of these can be found in the android development section.
I also suggest you read this (among other things) before proceeding:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310270
Also get prepared to be flamed. Sorry.
Thanks but can i flash a costum kernel on the stock rom? i had other devices before this one, and i never got this kind of problems, thats why im asking.
Flash one of honks kernels via Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Sorry buddy it's not like the LG optimus for example.. you have to use Odin. Only way to go! Read the Bible in the stickies and Odin stock. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1117554 That's gonna be a link to the bible
I think i just got it, thanks guys!
Is it so hard to read?

[Q] Now what!?!?!Help after everything!

Okay so my phone is rooted [i already added the 32bit driver]. I used ODIN to root my sgs4g to GB 2.3.3, i Then downloaded,[used ODIN again to install] drhonk's stock+Voodoo-T959VKH2.tar - followed the [Solution Thread]Step by Step on how to flash any Gingerbread ROM. [ i have also installed titanium back up pro - busybox - voodoo control - quick boot]
Now i have yet to flash a rom yet as im not quite clear as how to do it.
Everywhere i have looked for a guide to flashing it just says place files on the root of your sd card.
Does that mean plug my phone into my computer via USB and do this ? or do i have use ODIN again ? and if i do have to use ODIN again do i put the file in the PDA area again and hit start?
Is flashing and using ODIN two different things or are they the same?
ONce i get this figured out i would like a ROM that speeds up my sgs4g and has a few cosmetic options or different themes and maybe removes bloatware [but i think i read that titanium backup can do that?]? i was thinking valhalla? if there is something better or more geared towards what i want what would it be?
If im being a dumbass noob just tell or link a guide i should follow and i will figure it out , but i have been up all night messing with this and i cant figure it out. I have slept in 24 hours so im kinda retarded at the moment =p
so i think i figured it out, correct me if i am wrong - Download the rom, open ODIN , connect phone in download mode , Use the PDA area and add the .tar ROM file , hit start , then boot phone in CWM and then move files to the SD card from there?
since i have voodoo i have to disable it before i mount to sd card also right?
If you have one of honks kernels you should have clockworkmod recovery. Most custom roms are flashed from there. No Odin involved. I recommend Valhalla or octane. Either download directly from your phone or to your computer then move it to your SD card. Boot into cwm recovery and flash the rom.

Edit that. I saw your on android 2.3.3. That's not a good version of gb. You need to go back and Odin a newer version. The kg4 2.3.4 has the correct bootloaders. Odin that rom then Odin Dr honks kernel then flash a cwm rom. Fbis251 has an excellent starter guide in the dev section. Find it read it and follow it and you will have no issues at all.

[Q] ics rom upgrade infuse 4g help

So Im a new member to the site for the most part (have been reviewing threads for more than a year now, though) and decided to finally sign up while trying to flash CM9 ICS on my infuse. Im running into issues. I currently am running ZUES Build 6, with the ICS theme / framework. I LOVED CM7 for the Ascend, so decided to give it (CM) a try on my infuse. The Dev threads say that i should have no issues b/c Im flashing from a UCBL3 / GB ROM, but when i try to just flash it, its an invalid package...? I tried flashing over the ICS recovery from both Hiemdall and Odin but hiemdall needs a "valid tar.gz" and i also encountered the same type of issues with Odin. Ive used Odin before to flash to stock, but im a complete noob to Hiemdall. Any help from an experienced Dev or another flashoholic is greatly appreciated! dont have 10 posts to ask in the Dev section yet...
Could you be trying to flash a .zip file that is designed to be flashed in CWM recovery via Heimdall or Odin? I don't have an Infuse but I'm currently running AOKP on my Galaxy SII and the files posted by in that development thread are CWM flashable.
ive tried in all 3...cwm says
"Cant open /sdcard/update-cm-9.0.0-RCO-infused4g-04152012-UNOFFICIAL-signed.zip
(bad)
installation aborted"
I figured it was a bad DL...tried 2 other DLs, no luck
they said to flash from gb to flash a file called ICSRecovery.tar.... how would i go about doing this...i have red cwm like needed. im completely lost here...And thanks for replying.
edit: here are the pages, and is your rom ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24665001&postcount=272
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593187
I does sound like a bad download, redownloading would have been my first instinct as well.
Rereading your post, it seems like maybe you haven't been able to successfully flash the ICSRecovery.tar that jt1134 mentioned in the first link you posted. Entropy512 doesn't mention needing to flash that recovery before the .zip but it may be implied, I haven't read nearly enough of the pertinent threads. You should be able to flash the .tar using Mobile Odin.
It looks like you pulled the download from Entropy's thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844
Entropy left some pretty detailed instructions that should be easy enough to follow after you've overcome this initial hurdle.
so you suppose i install mobile odin...will try, and will keep progress updates
update:mobile odin not available for my device...must dump... :/ 30 minutes...............
Update: i was able to flash the recovery image for ICS through sgs kernal flasher, reboot, and get rainbow recovery. it WAS a bad DL, the ICS recovery couldnt flash it...but when i tried to reboot normal, i got into what i call IRONY!!! i was stuck in a recovery loop ( you see the irony in that, right?). reboot put me back in recovery again every time i clicked the option...i was able to get out of the recovery loop by flashing the zues 6 rom (because the ICS couldnt read the boot image of my backup) then from there i rebooted and got the voodoo recovery (huge relief). I was then able to restore my backup (after practically drenching myself in sweat)! I will be uploading an image of the rainbow recovery, as its been dubbed, for those who would like to see what a pain in the ass it is.........
