Hello,
I am really annoyed because I cannot turn off my Xoom.
I was stupid enough to accept OTA when I was on Custom ROM (TIAMAT) and I am now stuck with 99% battery at the green droid + exclamation mark.
I can press for minuts on the power button, nothing happens.
Cannot access with adb neither fastboot!
What can I do?

Can you make it reboot by pressing volume up and power at the same time and holding? If it reboots, wait about 3 seconds once you see the dual core logo and then tap volume down you should see android recovery, then tap up to choose it. I hope you did a nandroid backup. If not, you can try and get fastboot by tapping volume down sooner after it reboots.
You saved my Xoom!
Thank a lot, dude.
I will add this to the Q&A thread.
Thanks Okantomi.

I have had a hard day trying to recover my Xoom. No success. My biggest problem for now is:
How do I shut it down. The screen is on showing the M bootlogo. The powerbutton doesn't do it. From what I understand so are the tablet "off" because the charging light goes on when I connect the charger. I read in a thread somewhere that the light doesn't go on if the tablet is on.
So how do I shut down a tablet that's not on?
I'm afraid that the screen will be damaged if it has the same picture on it untill the battery is drained. Perhaps that's not the case nowadays, but I don't know.
Anyone that do know?
Have u tried just hold power volume up?

Yes. That only reboots to logoscreen and Starting RSDmode 3.

Can't just shut it down. Gotta boot into fastboot and flash a boot.img, then power it off. Obnoxious I know.

Hold volume up and power at the same time. See if that works!
Oops just saw the 2nd post.
Yup, follow post #2 to shut it down. But make sure you let go of both buttons as soon as the screen turns off. Also, if you wanna unbrick your semi bricked xoom, use a windows XP machine (win 7 64bit just gives me too many problems). You can use the one click root solution to make it easier for you. To get it to fastboot mode (to restore the boot.I mg and system.I mg files), you have to hold power+volume up button, and as soon as the screen turns on, let go of both buttons and press volume down immediately.

u may need to download your devices partition images and reflash them in fastboot
Thank you. I'm sorry but that didn't help. I can't boot into fastboot mode. When I follow your advice I boot into the logo screen without any text in the upper left corner. Then I give the "fastboot flash boot boot.img"-command from CMD. It just sits there <waiting for device>. I think I have to send it back to Best Buy and let them repair it. It was nice for 5 hours though. My personal best in bricking.
I got stuck at that screen once and shut it down by holding the power button for a very long time. At least 30 second, if not more. Perhaps that'll work for you.

OK, try this.. Reboot the device by pressing on the power and volume up key. Hold both keys til it reboots and you see the motorola logo. As soon as you see the motorola logo, let go of the power and volume up key. Press on the volume down button once and it would then give you the choice of booting Android (recovery), press the volume down again for the RSD mode, press on the volume again and it will then give you the choice of fastboot mode. Pressing the volume up key will select the current boot mode displayed... See if that works..

No. I can't get into any recovery. It boot into RSD mode 3 or no text in upper left corner. In that mode I can't use fastboot or adb. What can I do with RSD mode 3? Can I create the file that can be flashed with RSD Lite from a wifi xoom dump in the development forum?
i updated and now it wont fully boot up. i get to the screen where the honeycomb is going up and down and it just stays there. im having trouble getting it into recovery from adb so if anyone knows what to do please save me.
How long are you waiting because the first time mine booted in 3.2 it took about 10 mins.
Long enough for the xoom to die. I just want to be able to boot into recovery but when I try to from fastboot it doesn't do anything. I hope it's not bricked and there's something that can be done.

Do you have CWM installed? If so, boot the Xoom and at the Moto logo wait about 2-3 secs then press the Vol Down button. This will give you the option for recovery, press Vol Up to get in.
i do have it installed but it wont let me get into it through fastboot or those instructions.
do you think this is bricked?
Hmm. I'd keep resetting it (hold power and Vol Up) and trying to get into CWM. I can't see why this wouldn't work. To reiterate, you want to press vol down after about 2 secs of the Moto dual core image.
awesome, i didnt realize i had to press it down. i kept holding it and getting into fastboot. thanks for the help guys!
Glad to help
I just used the Universal Root v4 Live CD for my TF, but I do not have any recovery abilities. If i hold up and power when I turn it on, it just turns the screen black. Nothing else happens. I do have root. I have checked it with many different programs. Any Advice? Thanks in advance

In the 1st post of the thread there'a a FAQ:
[Q] How can I reboot in APX/recovery mode?
[A] Do as follows:
VOL UP + POWER BUTTON for ~5sec = boot in APX mode. The screen will stay black as if it is turned off. This mode is used only when you use nvflash to flash boot/recovery/data partition (this is the first step in my script).
VOL DOWN + POWER BUTTON ~5sec = will appear a screen where it says to press vol down again to wipe all data (obviously you don't want to do it now), or press up to enter RCK (recovery mode). If you installed CWM you will see the main menu navigable with vol up / vol down / power button.
If you have the stock recovery you will see a green android with a esclamation mark on a yellow triangle.
[Q] Help! I can't reboot in recovery mode!
[A] I think the main problem here is that it is a bit tricky to get into CWM recovery, once you see the small text come up don't try to read anything, just hit volume up.
Hold volume down plus power until the text in upper left shows,if you let go too early it just boots up and you never see the text. If you wait too long you don't get the option to boot into recovery. Hope that helps..

Thank you so much for my incredibly noobish question. That worked exactly. I feel silly
Hi guys, new on the forums.
I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello
Also, I just bought a TF700 for a killer price and he told me that someone (either him or someone else) tried to root the tablet and messed up. I've been told by the guy I've bought it from that it just stays at the Asus bootup logo.
Based on my reading from around the xda-dev board, the first thing I should check is see if Fastboot is installed/enabled. If so I should be in good shape and be able to restore the tablet, correct?
Overall I'm jumping into working with this tablet not knowing its condition so I'd like to know what my procedure should be to a) determine the problem and b) fix it.
Thanks guys!

Not good...So with the device is OFF. hold volume down button first, then the power button next, you only see "boot loader unlocked" ? try to hit the volume up button twice and wait a bit, what do you see?

I followed the procedure per your instrux. Still same result of "This device is unlocked" message in upper left corner. Pushed Vol up 2x, nothing. The device resets every 2 minutes or so.
That being said, I am able to boot into APX mode, however the drivers I found don't seem to be compatible with the device.
I think an issue may be that because of the fact that I'm stuck in this infinite boot loop the device never really turns off and therefore I can't get it into recovery. I think what I'm going to do is let it drain the battery and then charge it back up and try to get it into recovery mode off of a fresh power up.

Connected it to the computer, held Vol UP and power.... then i heard the conenction of usb device sound on the computer. Didn't install properly cause I don't have the drivers but in my device manager I see in other devices a device labled APX Device
Sounds like it is hard bricked to me - no fast boot and no recovery. Only known way to fix is either presaved nvflash blob files (which I doubt you have from the info above) or send it back to Asus to replace motherboard.

How much you paid for it? You mentioned "very cheap".
I think I bricked my phone. I rooted after the 9.18 update by rolling back to the previous version with RSD Lite about a month ago. Everything was going great. I answered a phone call and after I hung up my phone started rebooting not going past the Droid animation. I booted into Fast boot to rerun the RSD Lite process and go back to MR-2, but in the process I think I lost the connection with the data cable. Now my phone has a black screen and will not talk to my computer. I have the latest drivers but my devise manager shows the driver QHSUSB_DLOAD with the yellow exclamaition mark and will not update.
Does anyone know what I can do?

Can you get into fastboot mode? Windows will eat your drivers and ****out the 1s and 0s. Reload them and try again.

Remind me if I'm doing it right.
Vol Down and Power for 8-10 seconds.
Vol Down and Vol Up and Power for 8-10 seconds.
Press down twice to select Fastboot mode and then press Vol up to select it.

Yes, with your phone unpluged, Vol Down and Vol Up and Power for a few seconds to get into the boot menu.
