[Q] No Recovery after Root - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just used the Universal Root v4 Live CD for my TF, but I do not have any recovery abilities. If i hold up and power when I turn it on, it just turns the screen black. Nothing else happens. I do have root. I have checked it with many different programs. Any Advice? Thanks in advance

In the 1st post of the thread there'a a FAQ:
[Q] How can I reboot in APX/recovery mode?
[A] Do as follows:
VOL UP + POWER BUTTON for ~5sec = boot in APX mode. The screen will stay black as if it is turned off. This mode is used only when you use nvflash to flash boot/recovery/data partition (this is the first step in my script).
VOL DOWN + POWER BUTTON ~5sec = will appear a screen where it says to press vol down again to wipe all data (obviously you don't want to do it now), or press up to enter RCK (recovery mode). If you installed CWM you will see the main menu navigable with vol up / vol down / power button.
If you have the stock recovery you will see a green android with a esclamation mark on a yellow triangle.
[Q] Help! I can't reboot in recovery mode!
[A] I think the main problem here is that it is a bit tricky to get into CWM recovery, once you see the small text come up don't try to read anything, just hit volume up.
Hold volume down plus power until the text in upper left shows,if you let go too early it just boots up and you never see the text. If you wait too long you don't get the option to boot into recovery. Hope that helps..

[Q] No APX mode anymore

Hello Folks,
I seem to have a problem and I can't find an answer in the forums.
I rooted my Asus Transformer with Android 3.1 using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1125714
I only rooted the Transformer, I didn't install CWM. Everything was working fine until my overenthusiastic wife updated the tablet with the 8.4.4.11-20110711 update. Suddenly my tablet was unrooted again. I thought "No problem, no harm's done, I'll just reinstall the stock 3.1 and then root the device once again and just leave the new update for what it is for the moment."
The problem is that I can't get into APX mode anymore. When I try to start the device with vol+ and the power button, nothing's happening. Both buttons are working fine (neither's stuck). I thought that the device might just be showing me a blank screen but when I press and hold vol+ and the power button for 5, 10 or 30 seconds then wait 30 secs and start adb.exe it says my device isn't connected.
When I press vol- and the power button I do get the option to wipe all my data and factory reset (which I tried and is working). When I press vol- and the power button then vol+ when it's booting to get into RCK (recovery kernel mode) I get a droid image with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. Nothing happening.
Anyone got a clue what's going on and or how I can solve this issue?
The Transformer is working fine besides not being able to get into APX mode btw. I can use it, just can't access apx mode anymore.
P.S. Sorry for the double post. I first posted this question in the general Q&A forum instead of this Transformer Q&A where it belongs.
i thought you had to press power + vol down then pressed vol up? unless i'm remembering incorrectly.

That is to get into the recovery mode, not APX. APX is power + vol up

then i guess i remembered wrong
Found the solution to my own problem. I had to:
1 - Press and hold Volume down + power button.
2 - Press volume up to enter recovery mode.
3 - Wait till it shows the droid with the triangle and exclamation mark image.
4 - Press volume up + power button.
5 - Wait a bit...et voila...APX mode.
Reinstalled stock 3.1. Rooted. Installed Clockworkmod. Installed prime 1.5. Made a Nadroid backup and I should be funky-friends-proof now .
Now I can enter the APX mode once again by just simply holding the volume up + power button. No idea why I had to use some Mortal Kombat secret finisher key combo after updating to 8.4.4.11.
Ok so I'm trying to get my TF into APX mode and I followed the instructions of getting into recovery first and then holding Vol up and Power but that just shuts the TF back down. I am running 3.1 and .11.

Have you just tried with out going into recovery first?
Also your TF must be plug into the USB for it to go into APX mode
Try pressing Volume UP and Volume DOWN and Power for about four seconds, I hope that will bring it in APX. It worked with mine TF101.
Ok well I got in APX mode by holding Vol Up and Down but now I need to install the drivers :/. Any ideas? I googled it and ended up finding it but I don't know how to get it installed.

Hi, i have the same problem, but ur solutions didn't work with me.
i got the TF and it has 3.1 and i updated it to 3.2 and then googled for a rooting method for it, and i found one that says it will work for 3.2 but the man who posts it didn't try it.
so i tried it, but it didn't root my TF.
and when I try ur ways with holding Power + Volume Down then Volume Up, it takes me to Clockworkmod instantly, and not to "the droid with the triangle and exclamation mark image"
and i don't know what to do there, so plz help me if there is a way to fix it, I REALLY NEED TO ROOT MY TF.
thx.
what if vol+ button doesn't work? I can't get into apx mode to unroot, flash stock recovery and stock rom

If you can get into CWM recovery you can flash back to stock.
You'll need a working power button and at least a Vol down button.

i have repacked stock rom (WW) but with root app (cannot remove). This tutorial has correct rom (without root app) but US rom. It's problem?

[Q] HELP!! Samsung Nexus S Crashed, Cant do anything

Hi
I have a Samsung Nexus S for past 5 months. I recently upgraded to the ICS. Last week, I was listening songs on my phone and all of a sudden out of nowhere the phone re-started.
After couple of minutes, saw a message on screen saying “encryption unsuccessful, you have lost all your data. This phone will now need to rebooted”.
Underneath this message, there was only 1 option of REBOOT NOW. I had to press the button since I had no other option.
After this the phone restarted but never went past the start up animation screen. After couple of days, I gave it another shot and after going past the welcome screen, it gave me the option to register the phone again. But as soon as that screen comes up, I get all these small messages saying, email has stopped, music has stopped, android process has stopped, calendar has stopped................ at this point the phone virtually hangs itself and I can’t do anything.
Can someone please advise what is wrong with my phone and how can I fix it?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Try this, power the phone off, now press and hold the volume up & power botton at the same time, a menu should appear, now use the volume up/down buttons till "RECOVERY" is highlighted green, now press the power button, the phone will now reboot and in to recovery and show an android on the screen, at this point you need to press and hold the power button then press volume up briefly, a menu should appear, use the volume up/down buttons to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" and press the power button, now use the volume up/down buttons to highlight "Yes -- delete all user data" once this is done select "reboot system now", this process will wipe the phone and put it back to factory settings, it won't delete usb storage though so you may need erase usb storage once you're up and running again.

I think that you have to push clockworkmod recovery image like when you root your device.

yeah, try using clockwork recovery.
that's much more usfeul than the stock one
i tried doing clockwork recovery, I cant unlock the bootloader, i did all the steps ie installed android drivers, went to command prompt, typed the command, I can see the option of unlocking bootloader on android but when I select yes, it still says locked. I guess I will have to give up on this phone.

thanks for your quick response..
yes,i can reboot/powerr off by power+vol UP.
but if only press power button to turn off ,nothing happens.
EDIT:-try this method and no success.
I don't know if I got something wrong up there, but since you didn't flash anything and were just playing around with vol up/down, you should not have to flash anything...
What happens if you just reset your xoom by holding vol up + power for 3 seconds and after that just wait? Imo your xoom should just boot back into android and everything should be fine...
he don´t has to flash something
i am not sure if he wasnt able to turn of the device... and reboot it or something else...
the points for flashing r optional - if he wants to change the kernel or something

Try holding Vol up + PWR for 3 seconds and release, you should see the Motorola logo.
Can you tell us what happened before the xoom went off, or if you have loaded a custom ROM some time ago.

Let the battery go all the way down. Then put it on charge and try to boot-up.
Can you get into fastboot mode? If so, you should be able to reboot into your OS.

[Q] White screen and frozen buttons after downgrade

Hi Mates,
I tried to root my HTC Desire HD - but something seem to have gone wrong?!
I downloaded the Advanced Ace Hack Kit and read the effen manual guide.
Then I started the "hack-ace.cmd" as Administrator on Windows 7 x64.
I entered the key from the txt file and proceeded with selecting 1 and pressed Enter key.
Then the program told me that I needed to downgrade, so I confirmed with "y" and then it asked if I wanted to download some UUR or what it was called, so I confirmed again with "y".
After some time it asked me to reboot, but after startup I only see a white screen now, with H-BOOT-0.85.0024 - Radio-26.09.04.12_M2 - bot my vol up and vol down keys + power button on the phone does not respond now... so I see BLUE highlighted HBOOT and FASTBOOT on my screen now, but I am not able to select with VOL DOWN to go to Recovery or any other menu items, af the VOL and POWER buttons are frozed.
If I remove the battery, then I am able to press and hold down VOL DOWN and POWER together, in order to enter this menu again... but no reaction after this.
What do I do to recover my phone now, as I wanted to root it, and after that flash it with a new file?!
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards
Osukido

hold power button + tap volume down,
just hold vol down,
tap power button (does nothing), only long press restarts.
hold power button till screen goes black and then hold vol down + tap pwr button
hold power button till screen goes black and then hold vol down + hold pwr button
hold power button till screen goes black and then hold vol down on its own
search forum
pull hair out
type this
each time reinstalling twrp
any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
thanks

well that's strange, as, on my device, from off:
Volume UP + power takes me to download mode... I have done this several times and it asks me to confirm by then pressing down.
AND, from off
Volume DOWN + power takes me to recovery.
and doing a search, via google and xda all agree with me.
.. but thanks
I never said I couldn't get into recovery... I cannot get from odin into recovery without it first rebooting and therefore wiping my flash.
edit: So I tried it anyway, and got back into download mode, which in a way is kinda good news as, my logic, if I can get back into download mode from a reboot then I should be able to get into recovery from a reboot.
Same same but slightly different

I am having the exact same problems and tried exactly the same things. I am just not able to install twrp because of this. ( I read that it overwrites the recovery with the stock one when you are not going straight into recovery mode after installation) I am stuck at the “Samsung Galaxy note 10.1” screen if try to go straight into recovery.
What is strange though is that with my device: VOLDown (towards the power button) + Power button takes me to download mode and the other combination supposedly to the recovery mode.
This is so frustrating. Done this so many times with other devices but this one just does not give up… I just want to get rid of all bloatware and other crap…..

I am currently doing just that! Using the files from autoroot . chainfire . eu (can not post links yet haha) . I will let you know how it went!
UPDATE:
It worked! I rooted my device first. After that I flashed my recovery via the TWRP app. I also must say that my device is the GT-N8010 (p4notewifixx). I got confused of all the different models. Still I think it will work with your model aswell! Good luck!
