hummm sounds more like this belongs on butt book...
Consider the greater good.

"Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product."
Rumors say that will the day when Steve Jobs will take his final journey...

This thread is pointless because if I wanted to read about all the features about the new Android Ice Cream version then I would head over to a tech blog or something like that and from what I can tell is main goal is getting people to "like" a facebook page which AGAIN is pointless........

maybe even 5.0 ... srsly ? u guys all thought gingerbread is 3.0 , and now u still talking about 3.x and 4.0 ? my god
Am I missing something in that article or the statement "multiple sources inform us" along with the fact that there is no link to those sources, is the equivalent of "my uncle, who knows a guy whose cousin works as a maid for the guy who takes out the garbage and happens to be married to the lady that opened the door at the Starbucks for me the other day that happens to know the janitor working in 3rd shift at Google told me that"?
LOL
It must be something like that...but my uncle said it is for real 2.4

Honeycomb (3.0) is tablet orientated. Sources close to google have confirmed Ice-Cream will be 2.4
Is there any ROM for 3.0 based on the preview released by Google?
Can't wait to see the screeshots
Lol 2.4? Let's hack that.
Is it necessary to release this version if Android 3.0 still has the phone mode?
The XPERIA Arc thing was a build.prop error, move along.
ye ye ye 2.4
summer is too late
ok very interesting
nice! hopefully that much improvement like 2.2 and 2.3
Well, even if its not confirmed, its still great!
Well, even if its not confirmed, its still great! I LOVE ANDROID
BURN APPLE BURN!
Jk, I still like you Apple, Androids just better.
hopefully it wont have as many bugs as 2.3 seems to be having. It feels like 2.3 was pushed out to get the Nexus S out, and it will be quickly replaced by 2.4 coming in May.
Which phones can support Ice Cream?

Android 3.x Ice Cream Sandwich Announced! Coming to a Mytouch near you!!!

Well everybody should be excited to hear that android 3.1 is upon us.
The next version of Google's Android operating system, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, will converge the formerly disparate phone and tablet versions of the OS, Google announced at its I/O keynote today. Ice Cream Sandwich will maintain a single UI across all form factors and will allow developers to create applications for both kinds of devices in one motion. It will follow the rollout of Android 3.1 to the Motorola Xoom tablet and Google TV.
Google says the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android will "all be open source," including APIs for face-tracking and other new features. Developers will be able to account for all form factors within this same version of the OS, and Google will be adding a lot of UIs to accommodate Android devices of all shapes and sizes.
The announcement of Ice Cream Sandwich followed news of Android 3.1, which carries desirable features like resizable widgets in the application launcher. Android 3.1's trip over to Google TV will also carry with it the Android Marketplace and the usability of USB devices. At the keynote, Hugo Barra, director of Android product management, demoed the use of an XBox 360 controller with an Android game.
No official launch date has yet been announced for Ice Cream Sandwich, but Android 3.1 will be available to compatible devices as of today.
Oh ya one more thing, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon announced that it will be updating all devices to the new version of android until their 18 month birthday. So yes the mytouch will get Ice Cream Sandwich!!!!!!!!

So this device came out around novemeberish so we'll stop seeing "official" support around mid 2012ish. Well that's good to know at least, not really worried since we have XDA for the roms and other things.

Unfortunately, as I believe someone else has already mentioned that is for devices moving forward and I would imagine will not apply to our phones. They have not even really set any guidelines as to how they will even go about ensuring updates for devices, it's just a group of carriers and device manufacturers that have said they will attempt to follow through on this promise. I'm hopeful, but there is still the same issue of custom UIs, which require the manufacturer / carrier to update their code, and I think we all know how well that has worked out so far.

Ice Cream update ? What and when to expect ?

So I have been reading the last 6 months about the supposed biggest update for Android ever = Ice Cream Sandwich. I have a few questions.
- What OS # will it be ? 4.0 ?
- What's approx release date ? This fall on the next Nexus device ?
- When will other current phones get Ice Cream ?
- Is it really going to be the mind blowing incredible update they it is ? Completely change Android radically with massive improvements and new ways of doing things ?
There was lots of hype last year before Gingerbread, saying it would be a big update, and change the look of the UI and be totally fresh. But to me its barely any different than Froyo.
Anything else ?
Sent from my EVO-3D waiting for Myn's ROM
wow, surprised that 71 people have viewed this thread, but none of them have a responded ?
I thought this site was for [H]ard Geeks only ? I am sure one of you knows something more in detail about the next big Android update ?
Ice Cream Sandwich will be Android 4.0.
It will bring a Honeycomb-style UI to ALL android devices - no more phone vs tablet OSes. This also means no more hardware buttons - they're going to be onscreen like Honeycomb.
The first 4.0 Device is expected to be the Nexus Prime, a most-likely Samsung phone with a 4.3ish" screen to be released in the fall of this year.
Some (possibly many) Honeycomb and Gingerbread devices will be upgraded to ICS.
That answer your question?
Most people are as clueless as you are. Not much info is known except it's supposed to be basically GB and HC merged for use on phones and the new Nexus one will be the first to start it off supposedly sometime towards the end of the year.

i hope that there won't be onscreen buttons, i hope there will be gestures..
swiping with two fingers down for home or something. so we dont loose any screen size for the buttons, on screen or not, they waste space on the screen
or maybe something like Zmooth in the market, where you got a small area to make gestures to simulate the buttons
i rly rly hope that they will implement something like this, and not just onscreen buttons..
So the Nexus-Prime will be the debut device for Android 4.0 Ice Cream.
If it is made by Samsung, curious how much better spec'd the Prime will be over the upcoming Galaxy S2 + ?
And I heard a rumor that Google wants to release this new Nexus earlier than the normal Christmas time, but try and compete with iPhone5 with an October launch ? Do you realistically see that happening ?

i definitely hope it will be released around the iphone5 time..
and hey, the nexus one was the better twin of the htc desire, the nexus S is the better twin of the galaxy S. why shouldnt the nexus prime be the better twin of the galaxy SII+?^^
I'm reading some stuff about ICS and i think that this release it will have the following specs optimized:
-Jit
-A new UI that fits on smartphones and tabblets,
-An optimized kernel
-A new way of interatcion with market and the other produtcts of google.
Will it support duel-core smartphones..? And if so, anyone knows how it will do it?
hope we'll get it soon
i wait it so long
One answer to all the questions you asked, no one knows
sent from my bolt
Google has not given any information about ICS. Guess they will hold an event to give all ins and outs just like they did with Honeycomb. Rumours are by the way that there are multiple ICS devices coming out at the same time in fall/winter. (LG, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony)
I hope that the on-screen buttons are not a design requirement for devices running ICS. It would be frustrating to not be able to get CM8 on my Tbolt.
I hadn't heard about the hardware buttons being gone, that's a shame...would it be the soft touch screened like I have on my DInc (which I wouldn't classify as hardware like say, on the Droid X) or just button screens drawn in the actual viewed screen?
So the Dual-core processor isn't a minimum hardware requirement .. thank god !

Fake. I'd vote if I wasn't on my mobile

Again, can't vote... But I vote fake. Clearly a cyanogen theme with a bunch of custom launcher options. The notification pull down looks like it's done in poor taste as well... Similar to all the epic themes by mystery emotions. It's all very amateur, bright and overly contrasty. (notification bar only)

They pulled a partial firmware from the device before it was wiped, it was real. I trust Jcase, he is reliable and already has a well established rep.

Yeah, it follows along with the leaks about what will be new (like the categories in the list of apps and the list of widgets). So it is definitely real. It could be a real early version so who knows what will change by the time it is released.
Viral?

AOSP is for nexus phones by design, it was something that most companies and Google were comfortable with when they were adopting android from windows mobile.
If you remember, windows mobile was highly customizable and all the OEMs had their own thing going on. This is where android is picking up from.
Don't hold your breath on a pure AOSP phone that's not nexus, it won't be common for a while.

Why would Google already be bringing out a new operating system when Ice Cream Sandwich has not even been out for 6 months and few people have had the chance to even try it out?
ICS was supposed to eliminate the gaps between all the devices, but that's not going to work out very well if by the time older devices get it, the newest OS will be Android Edible Underwear 7.0.2

But still. What's wrong with just building a launcher or something? Then they can have their worthless widgets and ugly launcher and I can remove it later. Maybe Google will start to make it easier for manufacturers to make a launcher that can dig deeper into the system so they can have their worthless changes that would be segregated enough to easily be added or removed.

Waiting patiently for the good hardware on windows phone... Android was nice but the 1 year that I spent with my focus was probably the best mobile experience yet (I don't game much, just an information consumer and workaholic).
Android will be second for me always. Got this SGS2 simply because of hardware specs, fooled me once but they won't fool me twice!
