Forgive me if i am mistaken but i am new to the NS4G(as im sure a few of u know) & did not see a Q&A for us but i have a question.
No disrespect but i come from Evo 4g & was curious Y there is very limited roms available for NS4G???
I've heard many a great reviews for the Nexus S but i have not seen any reason y??? My Evo was just as good, mayb even better compared to my now owned Nexus. Roms were a plenty, speed just as fast, better camera, etc...
Like i said i am new to the Nexus S 4g & still learning. But from my understanding the Nexus S was first???
I like the Nexus for its size, not as bulky, but whats size compared to usage?
I still have my Evo & consider giving my nexus to my wife for alot of reasons. I hear of this "so called" ICS update, but im sure the Evo will be sure to get it(rom)...
If u feel my opinion is wrong, PLEASE, feel free to share your thoughts.
Again I bring no disrespect just curiousity...
Thank you for your time & patience.

Most phones with manufacturer skins (sense, blur, touchwiz) the ROM makers are striving to create AOSP ROMs. We as Nexus owners already have this. The ROMS you see are mainly tweaks to AOSP with the 2 main exceptions being CM7 and MIUI.
So we don't need the same amount as the other phones. Quality over quantity in these parts Hope that helped and answered your question

Here's a good question, I'm sure its been asked many times and ill probably answer it myself, but I'm looking to get the ns4g soon. Can the ns4g run any roms in the ns development section or no because of the difference between the internation and us radios?

The NS4G only runs NS4G ROMS.

So... no 3. 0, 3. 5,sense, rosie, 3d widgets, etc...???
I know these are mainly "looks" but isnt that what phones are for???
"Look what my phone can do??? "
Yea we got "wallet" but REALLY???
So if we are "aosp" shouldnt we be able to do this(tweaks)???
No disrespect but like i said earlier, my evo did everything...
My nexus does 60% of this... (unless i am mistaken???)

Well I had an evo for a year and just got the nexus several months ago and I can say I would never go back. Here's my list of reasons:
1. The screen. I used to be a huge HTC fan, but after using a super amoled screen I don't think I could go back to an LCD. The blacks are so deep, contrast is great and color saturation is amazing.
2. The amount of ROM available is a huge deal for me. On a sense ROM I was lucky to have 200-300mb free for apps. The best I could do was with cyanogen @ 500mb. With my nexus I have about 1gb free space and I don't have to manage what apps I have installed (I usually have 160+ apps installed).
3. Graphics. The two phones might look the same on paper, but they are very different. The nexus is way better at playing 3d games than the evo. If you look in the market you will see the majority of gameloft games are not available for the evo, but they are all available for the nexus. Another example is my n64 emulator. On my evo games like star fox and banjo kazooie would be choppy and slow. They run very smooth on my nexus.
4. The camera is better on the nexus. Yes the evo might be 8mp, but its not about mp's its about the optics. The optics on the evo suck. My pictures were always grainy, and the colors were always washed out. Whereas the pictures on my nexus are smooth and have better contrast and color representation. Yes the camera on the nexus is not omg amazing but its way better than the evo (although I do wish the stock camera had touch to focus).
BUT there are some cons...
1. There is no HTC sense. I don't know what everyone means when they say vanilla android is better, it isn't.
The stock dialer sucks, no t9 dialing. The stock messaging app is ugly.
The stock launcher is crap (I have to load launcher pro just to make it useful)
Lack of any useful Widgets (no Facebook/friend stream, no calendar-the stock one is ugly, no useful clock)
The stock keyboard is okay, the sense one is way better.
The lock screen is useless (sense gives you a preview of your notifications)
Yeah I can, and have found apps and Widgets to fix most of my complaints dialer2, handcent, launcher pro, simple calendar, fancy Widgets, widget locker. But my point is that I shouldn't need too if stock android was so much better. Plus all those extra apps bog down the system and use up a lot of ram which leads me to my next point.
2. Lack of RAM. Yes the nexus has superior graphics performance, but that's because the GPU uses a lot of the RAM up, they should have put in a little more to compensate for it.
But despite my complaints, I'd still never switch back to my evo.

The Nexus S is guaranteed to be first (or at least in the first group) to receive an OS update with fully functioning roms like CM pretty quickly after, so all the ICS eye candy (and jellybean later and so on) will be on the NS first.
You can't compare sense to aosp. Oranges & apples. Sense roms use sense frameworks. If those phones were aosp phones, it would be exactly the same. Also the evo has 2 years of development behind it. Most of those roms are in the same boat. Pretty much you can either have an aosp rom , an aosp based rom, a sense rom or a modded sense rom, or a miui rom.

Ok I am sure I am not the only one that watched the live release of the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Being that the Sensation is the flagship device for HTC and that HTC is obligated to update their devices for 18 months. Not to mention that ICS is optimized for dual core devices, the Sensation will get a official update . The o.ly true question is when will the Sensation get this update. Now all of us here on XDA know we will probably get a unofficial update via a custom Android 4.0 ROM from Cyanogen Mod or another AOSP team.
So if anyone out there gets a update avaliable notification or finds a custom Android 4.0 ROM for the Sensation please post it here.
Today's date is Oct. 18 2011 let the count down begin.!
First 24
Oct. 19 2011
Ok it has been 24 hours now sense the start of the live Samsung and Google event yesterday, So lets review what has become available so far.
We have ICS wallpapers via XDA Member matd20012001.
We have the Roboto font via XDA Senior Member Thyrus.
We have a ICS System Dump and ICS Data Folder via XDA Recognized Developer JoelZ9614.
We have the System App dump of ICS via XDA TV Personality azrienoch. He find them on My Droid World forums via p3droid.
And we have the Android 4.0 Platform SDK via the Google Android developers.
First SDK port to the HTC G2 (It is booting but lots of bugs) and I beleive the very first port to any device via XDA Senior Member siulmagic. Also check out the ICS Porting guide by Siulmagic.
Now I may have missed something or need to add extra credits to sources so please let me know if so.
DAY 2
Oct. 20 2011
If I get more information on this I will post it here, but it seems that ICS will be a part of the AOSP. Check out the message on Google+, thanks to XDA Junior Member Psychoticus
Day 3
Oct. 21 2011
HTC says they will be releasing information in the coming weeks on what devices and when the devices will get an update. Thanks to XDA Senior Member tinky1 for the info.
Looks like ICS does support the soft key hardware buttons for older devices. Ckeck out what My Droid World forums member Beezy says about them. Engadget.com, sorry for being late adding this.
Still have support for the buttons, really google couldn't take that out then every phone mf would have to code them back in and updates would take years then.lol

Yet another statement from a Google saying that ICS will be part of the AOSP. This via XDA Senior Member stonew5082. But from the statement it appears we all will have to wait at least until the Galaxy Nexus is available, if not more devices, to the public as it says the the following.
We plan to release the source for the recently-announced Ice Cream Sandwich soon, once it’s available on devices

Here is a video of a Nexus One running ICS. As you can see the on screen virtual buttons are not there, and the ROM is using the capacitive buttons. Video posted by XDA Senior Member DirkGently in the "ICS on phones with capacitive buttons", in the General forums of the General discussion forums.
Day 5
Oct.23 2011
Ok this was posted yesterday and I messed it, it is in the HTC HD2 Android development forum. This is info pretty much just for devs but still very useful, it was posted by XDA Senior Member vegaman. Also it seems the HTC HD2 is getting a little ICS love as there is also a booting alpha SDK port for the HTC HD2. Also for any devs or people that want to give it a try here is a place to download a Galaxy Nexus system dump, posted by XDA Seniort Member Proz00. I do not know if it is the same downloads I linked to in my "Fist 24" above or not but I thought it worth linking to. (Confirmed that is just a SDK system dump)
ICS has a Easter Egg too, check out the post by XDA Member Grimms in this thread.

Day 6
Oct. 24 2011
I decided to see just how many devices have a bootable ICS SDK port. We know the HTC Nexus one, the Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Nexus S 4G, and the HTC HD2 have one it looks like the HTC G2/Desire Z, the HTC Desire, the HTC Droid Incredible, the HTC Desire HD, the HTC EVO Shift 4G, the HTC Droid Incredible 2,the Samsung Infuse 4G,and the XPERIA X10 all have a bootable SDK port. (Whoooo that was more work than i had counted on, glad I am done) I am not 100% sure about that last one booting but it is some real dev work going on on it. Now i know all of these are SDK ports and will never ever be able to be used as a daily driver. But this gives the devs a chance to get their feet wet with ICS and hopefully make it easier for the devs to make some true ASOP ROMs when the source code is released by Google. Thus this is why I went through and found each one, this whay the devs for the Sensation can have a central location to find all the threads on the ICS ports.
Day7
Oct. 24 2011
So I have been reading and this is what I have come up with. The Nexus One devs have got all of the following working, touch screen (no cursor anymore), phone calls (no audio though), wireless data, SMS, Wifi, and the proximity sensor.
The Nexus S port is booting but that is it really.
Beezy and the devs over at My Droid World forums are making god progress with the SDK port for the Nexus S 4G. They have they following working, touch screen, data (no 4G), SMS, MMS, WiFi, and USB (not sure if it is USB mass storage or just USB). It may be more but there is no real full run down of all that is working. You can go here to watch the video on the last version of the ROM. It appears to be stable enough to use as a daily driver, who would have thought. Here is a video of the great port.
I personally tested the port for the HD2 and to put it nice it boots up and that is it, I am sure that will change though.
The devs working on the HTC Desire have got the following working, touchscreen, SD card, and hardware buttons. Here is a video of it.
The HTC Droid Incredible port is pretty much the same as the the HTC HD2.
The HTC Desire HD port is booting but that is pretty much it.
The HTC Evo Shift 4G port has the the following working, phone (without audio), data, and orientation.
The HTC Droid Incredible 2 port is booting but that is it.
The Samsung Infuse 4G port is booting but that is it and the thread has been closed.
The XPERIA X10 port is booting and that is it too.
So as you can see only the Nexus devices are progressing right now with a usable port. I find that a little curious, what about you?
Day 9
Oct. 27 2011
Just for all of you that have not seen the story on the XDA Portal you might want to give it a good read. The story is on the Nexus One but I think it is worth reading as it shows that even though a device can clearly run the new Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich, it does not necessary mean it will get the update. Google can you say, "This is our attempt to make you by a new device, and push the agenda of the OEMs." There is a link to the full original article in the story in the Portal.
It may be nothing, but I may have come across something very interesting. The Nexus S has a pretty good ICS port right now, but is it a port or is it a leaked early version of ICS made to run on the Nexus S for testing that has been modded? I will let you make that decision for yourself. Go here and have a read of post #93-#97. Also check out the quote in post #97 as it relates back to the Nexus One not getting a official update.
For Devs and Chiefs only
I really can not believe I messed this as it was posted on the 19th. But then again the Galaxy Nexus forums are still very new and I have had no real reason to check them out. Anyway XDA Senior Member blunden gives a general explanation to why the ICS SDK dump and the ICS app dumps can not be deodexed with the current smali/baksmali will not work. But he says he got a working baksmali.jar. He also gives links to download deodexed framwork and deodexed apps. Go to here to check out the post.
Looks like Samsung (or Sammy as some call them) has made a official statement on their plans for updating their Galaxy devices. Thanks again to XDA Senior Member Tinky 1 for the info, the link is direct to the source. Hope you can use Google translate.
Day 12
Oct. 30 2011
Looks like we can add the Samsung Galaxy S to the list of devices with a SDK port that boots and is being developed. But it appears to be just booting up for right now.
Day 13
Nov. 1 20011
Well it is not looking good for everyone to get a speedy update to ICS that will get the official update to their device. Check out this article on what the OEMs are saying abot the official updates. Thanks to XDA Senior Member LPChris47
Day 17
Nov. 5 2011
It looks like there is a alleged dump from the Galaxy Nexus. Now this is suppose to be a early version and not the final release version of ICS. Me personally I am holding my opinion on what this is for right now as I have seen it and I am not convinced just yet. Oh yeah this was actually posted yesterday, but i just now got around to posting it here. Sorry I have been busy. Thanks to XDA Senior Member DroidRC1 and XDA Senior Member bonesy for the heads up.
Day 18
Nov. 6 2011
Engadget has posted a article on what devices they can confirm are going to get a official ICS upgrade. The Sensation is not listed under the HTC section as of now, but the article says"Keep checking back here from time to time, as we'll continue to update the list." So kepp a check there, I know I will. Thanks to XDA Senior Member leeskywalker for the heads up on the article.
Day 19Nov 7 2011
HTC Official announcment
It appears HTC has announced that the Sensation along with several other HTC devices will be getting an official ICS upgrade. They used Facebook as their platform to announce this information which really burns my butt cause I personally can not stand face book and despise it. Anyway this is great news as it confirms mine and several other peoples thoughts about the Sensation getting an official upgrade. But one down side of the announcement is that the update will be sometime in early 2012. Now to me early means with in the first 3 months, but to HTC it could mean with in the first 6 months. Thanks to XDA Senior Member illuminarias for posting the link here in the thread. Also thanks to XDA Senior Member austendale9 as it seems he had started a thread with the link a little before illuminarias posted the link here in this thread.
Day 26
Nov. 14 2011
Well even though it is just the Android 4.0.1 version that is on the Galaxy Nexus. Google has released the Source code for ICS today, They also released the previousely unreleased Honeycomb Source code too. Google says they really want people to focus on development for ICS though. And that source for more devices will be filming soon.
I'm just not sure what they'll do with our hardware buttons. It would suck to lose their functionality and have to lose screen real estate or the new on-screen buttons. hopefully there's a way to get rid of the new ones and have ICS use the hardware ones.
Other than that, safe to say a custom rom becomes available here before HTC gets around to releasing it.
geee uhmm i wonder why all the devs are so quiet? maybe a released sdk somewhere?

Yeah the thing about ICS using virtual compactive buttons does pose somewhat of a question if they will be in a ROM for the Sensation. Bit in my opinion and logical thinking on this is that they will make all updates for pre ICS devices use the existing soft keys and not vertual keys because if not that would leave the soft keys useless I highly doubt the OEMs will allow because it would make their devices look bad. Plus as you say it will take up screen real estate and that is not good. Plus I am not sure if the hardware soft keys can be done away with without causing some unwanted problems. So I say the existing hardware buttons will be used in ICS but we still might have to have the onscreen button to bring up the multitasking thumbnails as I don't know if you can make the search hardware button function for both buttons.

Not meaning to be the downer, but I'm pretty sure I can safely say you won't be seeing an ICS update from HTC for many, many months. And for CM9? I'm sure that will be a couple of months too.

I thought the SDK is only for app developers? We don't have the source yet do we?
Hey, you know that feeling in MMORPG's where you reach the highest level and all of a sudden the game isn't as fun anymore because you have nothing to work towards? And no matter how many more monsters you killed or quests you did, you would no longer level up because the EXP is wasted?
ICS is like extending that soft level cap so we can look forward to things in the future. Might not come today, might not come next week. Might not even be for another month or so. But it's something to look forward to. And I'm happy with that.

From what I've read ICS gives devs the option to do away with hardware buttons, so it won't be a problem. ICS can use either.

Yeah Jellybean is suppose to have what has been labeled as "Game Changing Stuff" in it. And CM ROMe are already top notch ROMs so when the CM team finally get a hold of Jellybean it is truly no telling what will be the out come.
But we are really getting ahead of ourselfs here cause Jellybean has not been officially adopted as the name for the next Android version and ICS was just released last night and it is only at 4.0 right now so it is still plenty of room for more growth with ICS. Plus Google has said nothing yet about ICS being open sourced yet. So if Google does the same with ICS as they did with Honeycomb then we may never see a CM ICS ROM.
Im holding out for Jollyrancher...Itll make toast for you.

Like on Honeycomb tablets I think a button will appear along the 3 existing ones.
I also was expecting more. I'm a bit dissapointed
.
By the way, shouldn't be this topic on Android general forum?
I absolutely love how ICS looks. I adore the understated look and smooth transitions. The sold solid colors and Metro inspired design-language looks just fine to me. It is disappointing that the design of Ice Cream Sandwich is receiving so much negativity.
At least Gizmodo agrees that is is beautiful, and maybe that will help calm others a bit.
I think I kind of see a bit of disappoint. I think there was a bit too much speculation over it. There's always CyanogenMod

Moving to General
Do you think there is enough interest for people to sign a petition for Samsung to make the stock ICS launcher an option?
I didn't mind TouchWiz on Gingerbread, but I find TouchWiz to be a serious downgrade from the stock ICS launcher. If we got a few thousand people to say, "I'm sure you meant well, but your UI is feels underdeveloped looks amateurish on your amazing piece of hardware, please let us use the stock ICS launcher". I think it is something they need to hear for the benefit of all the users and Samsung.
I can see what Samsung wants to do. They want to incorporate the latest web design styles: flat pastel colors on a level surface, no bevel, faint 180 degree drop shadow. They had the right idea. If done right, the web 3.0-like style looks clean, simple, and elegant, but the final product just misses the mark. It comes off as uninspired, unsophisticated, amateurish, and underdeveloped. I feel that the whole TouchWiz needs to be scrapped and they should start all over again. But why do that when they can just offer us the stock ICS launcher?
Is it just me that feels this way? Would there be legal reasons why Samsung cannot offer this?
Make the petition and I will sign it. I doubt it will do anything though because the default argument will be that you can just download additional launchers.
Sent from my I727
I'll sign it. But it probably won't happen. You can go to change.org if you want to start it.

Samsung wants to sell you a Samsung phone, not an "Android" phone, and definitley not a Nexus-esque AOSP phone. It's in their business interest to condition everyone into Touchwiz no matter how deviated it is from AOSP.
Samsung is very good about releasing the source -- once it becomes official -- and then we can have all the AOSP love we want from our friends at CM and AOKP.

The support page says the update is "coming soon", so we can't confirm exactly when the OTA will roll out, but the important thing to take away here is that it's real, it's definitely coming, and it won't be long now. Thunderbolt owners should be pleased. When it lands, it will be about 395.6MB, so you should probably hop on WiFi. We've reached out to Verizon to find out just when it should be rolling out. When we know, you will.
Of course, Ice Cream Sandwich brings a host of new features including support for new APIs, face unlock, data usage metrics, the slick new recent apps switcher, and all around UI improvements."

No. The thunderbolt was promised ics and verizon heralded it as the first 4g lte smartphone, it would be stupid of them not to give it ics
