Hi.
Im current using Asus Transformer wifi model with PRIME 2.0.2 kernel.
And i also hv a Samsung Galaxy S and hv WhatsApp installed.
How can i install the WhatsApp on a non 3G Asus Transformer so that i can use WhatsApp on wifi?
How can we fool WhatsApp into thinking Asus Transformer is a phone?
Anyone can help?
TIA
I manage to install whatsapp after enabling 3G, with a 3G dongle inserted. for some reason my TF manage to get the sms send from whatsapp, and activate the application.
However there are problems with the contacts, due to the fact that I cannot view their names other than numbers.
For information on how to setup ur 3G dongle into your wifi only transformer
read this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151097
hope it helps
Hi. Thanks for the reply.
I got to install WhatsApp via the Call Me function in WhatsApp. Then i manually key in the code they send via SMS.
Only problem is that WhatsApp cannot read the contacts and update it as available contacts in WhatsApp.
Anyway of solving the issue with the contacts??
TIA
---------
Update: Seems that u are not allowed to install WhatsApp onto 2 different devices for the SAME HP #!!
I have the same problems. I hope whatsapp will fix this issue soon

How did you install whatsapp on the wifi only Transformer? A friend of mine tried it on his, but got an error message saying it can't recognize the device. I have an Acer Iconia A501 which accepts a SIM card, and it installs properly even though I didn't insert a SIM card, I think it only detects the device capabilities, not whether it physically has a SIM card. Anyway, I was able to use the Call Me function in the Iconia, but my friend can't even get it to install on his Transformer. How'd you do it?

Yes, Titanium Backup is the way to do it, that works. You must backup and restore WITH data!
What if the device isn't rooted? Ti Backup wouldn't work then would it?
u must have root acces
It is possible to install Whatsapp on a Asus tablet.
But you must have Whatsapp already working on your Android phone.
Just make a backup All apps and data with Titanium backup from Whatsapp on your phone.
Go into the TitaniumBackup folder at your phone and copy the three files starting with com.whatsapp to your Asus tablet. U have to put these files in a folder named TitaniumBackup.
Then download Titanium Backup on your tablet.
In settings, applications, Development enable USB debugging and allow mock locactions. At applications enable Unknown sources.
Go to Titanium Backup and scroll to the com.whatsapp file.
Restore app and data.
Now you should have working Whatsapp !
Hey wout1976.
Titanium backup and restore worked great. Thanks.
Do you have any ideas in regards to getting whatsapp to recognise contacts. they all just show up as numbers so far. Thanks

Thanks for the instructions. I've tried it and it works. The only thing I noticed is the wireless connection at WhatApp aborts more often than on the phone

I dont have a problem with that.
What is the wifi disconnection setting set at?
never? screen off?
I found that i will only receive messages on one or the other device. which is fair enough.
but the contacts thing is a little distracting. you can tell by what they are saying in the conversation. plus its also a great way to learn your firends numbers.

Worked this one out:
Long press on the conversations and add to your contacts. For some reason the saved contacts format is missing the 0 in front of the phone number, so you just have to save it to the appropriate and or existing contact/s
edit. actually.... nope. not working...
Re:
I'm using Asus transformer only.
So you need to have transformer prime rooted for this to work?
Hi,
I have ASUS Transformer TF101 which is not rooted! When I try to install whatsapp; it doesn't go beyond "Agree & Continue" page. It says device not recognised.
I have a working whatsapp on my android phone and I just want to use it on my ASUS tab. I don't want t9 root my phone or tab only for this!
Any other option?

If you don't have a mobile line in your TF, its imposible to configure Whatsapp, since it sends a message to your mobile phone to confirm your number. The only way to have Whatsapp in a WiFi tablet is as described above. And you will need root.

I'm sure the initial setup process was carried out on another android device, and then backed up, restored to the prime. (as the process has been mentioned)
However, I wasn't sucessful in getting whatsapp to work. It is working, but messages aren't being sent or received (I've remove whatsapp from the original phone, its only on the prime)
Still to know if this is a proxy server issue or I did something wrong.

Has anyone gotten Whatsapp working? I'm not quite sure how to make it work. I side loaded the Whatsapp apk but tablets aren't supported. Anyone have any idea/experience?

Yup, working fine here, but...
1) you have to have had it installed on an Android smartphone first
2) have Titanium Backup available for making a backup of that install
3) send the backup to the TF700T
4) CRUCIAL: uninstall Whatsapp on your smartphone
5) restore the backup on the TF700T
Step 4 is absolutely crucial because Whatsapp disallows account-sharing-like activity -- i.e., you may not use one account on more than one device. They have banned users in the past for doing so.
As an alternative, you might buy an el cheapo prepaid sim from Tele2 or whatever. Just backup the previous Whatsapp installation to a safe location, wipe Whatsapp data, then uninstall Whatsapp. Power off, put that prepaid sim into your smartphone, reinstall Whatsapp and reconfigure and activate using the new phone number. Then backup again, transplant to TF700T, restore backup... et voilá. This route would enable you to restore the first installation afterwards, thus having two Whatsapp accounts. May come in handy, might be a nuisance -- that depends...
You can pm me if you need more assistance.
So I need to be rooted?
Also, using a different number really sucks, it's kind of a deal breaker... Are you sure that they just lock double Whatsapp accounts? What is the reasoning for that?

Yes, you need to be rooted. Currently, there is no way around either uninstalling the app on your smartphone or using a different cell number. I have heard of people having had luck for a while (i.e., Whatsapp would function as intended for a while) and then blocked out of the Whatsapp network all of a sudden (no warning issued). They do, apparently, register MAC addresses or IP numbers.
As you could imagine, one of the technical reasons for disallowing account cloning is the fact that every message just gets sent (and received) once. If you would use the app concurrently on both your smartphone and your tablet this could result in one message arriving on your tablet, the next two on your phone, the next on your tablet again, and so on, and so on, thus breaking up the chronology of the conversatio. Hardly convenient. The protocol just is not designed to accommodate multiple devices on one account.
i have a samsung galaxy s captivate rooted and running cyanogen mod & miui. i've had whats app installed on it since july. i change my simcard to another phone (htc) for work coz i dont want my samsung to get damaged. it also has whats app installed so when i put it in i have to reverify.
likewise when i get home from work and put the sime back in my cappy i have to reverify whatsapp again on it.
i do this mon-fri and have for the past 2 months.
today i went to work with the simcard in htc and was propted to reverify whatsapp. fine. come home and put sim back in cappy. it propmted me to verify went through the process got sent a code text then it said "Initializing" for ages and i keep getting message "failure. sorry unable to complete initialisation"
i've tried rebooting the phone, i've also tried unistalling and reinstalling the app itself.
any ideas whats caused this and how to fix it?
I AM FULLY CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET (WIFI)
it seems there is a problem at their end
sync contacts dosent work thats a problem
if u have backup restore it which i did able to send msg but not able to refresh contacts
lets us hope they fix it soon
so there is an ongoing problem with the actuall app just now?
it said something about previous msgs detected do i want to restore then i clicked yes but again it wont get past the initialization.
Yes ongoing probs
now it seems solved my contacts is up but status msg is shown as error
Restore the whole app if you had backed up with titanium backup or similar apps
WhatsApp status functionality is currently not available. We are working on resolving it soon-ish...

Hey Folks,
The story starts with this:
I started my whatsapp in Sydney when I was studying offshore. Obviously it is a +61 number with my GNEX. Now, I have graduated and now back to my home country using a new +852 sim. I have no issue using my +61 number for my whatsapp with my +852 sim.
But now, N5 is coming I will be one of them to rush for the phone.
The problem is:
Once I get my N5, I will have a new phone but not the +61 sim (at least not functioning), I would not be able to get pass the verification later on even I root the phone and uses titanium backup...
Seemed not too related to N5 itself, but just wondering any workaround from the great XDA members and developers =]
Cheers,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I tried restoring WhatsApp with Titanium Backup, it doesn't asks for verification anymore. This was several months ago though, so I'm not sure if it still works just fine now.
Just make sure the app is on its latest version from the play store before creating a backup, and cross your fingers :fingers-crossed:
If all else fails I guess you can use your Galaxy Nexus as a wifi only device?

This only works if you're using the same SIM card / number, if not it will ask for verification.
The only way is to make a backup of your messages from within the app, then copy the folder "whatsapp" from your sd card to your new phone.

Actually, when I did that it was from an old Nexus S to my Nexus 7 (2012, WiFi). So I don't think it matters if I'm using the same SIM card since my Nexus 7 had no slot for it. Also I didn't copy the whatsapp folder on my /sdcard. Just a simple backup and restore using Titanium Backup did the trick.
Nonetheless, like I said it was several months ago. Not sure if it'll still work, but I think it's worth a try
If it still fails maybe try copying the whatsapp folder like adam1000rr suggested :fingers-crossed:
Thanks guys, I am now thinking of how whatsapp is detecting the verification need... if I am able to bypass this, titanium backup should work.

Hi mate, got your Nexus 5 yet? I am in the same situation in that my whatsapp was originally registered in HK (+825) on a Galaxy Nexus and I don't have access to my SIM card right now while I'm travelling. Tested today 03/11, it all worked fine for me on the Nexus 5, just make sure both phones are rooted so you can install Titanium Backup for this to work.
I believe the following link is helpful to you:

Nexus 5 just as sweet as kitkat (didn't have 32gb in hk tho)! Now I have Force close on wechat "people nearby" and go keyboard. Other than that, it is just perfect =]

Hi guys,
I have a new issue. Continuing my story... I managed to get my +61 number whatsapp account on my N5 via titanium backup but now I HAVE LOST MY N5! My heart broken and got one back immediately (32gb haha). Now the issue is, I do not have a titanium backup of my N5 (of the +61 whatsapp account data) but only my GNEX one (which obviously outdated). When I am trying to do the same trick, it asks me to verify my new N5. Obviously the sms verification does not work nor the "call me" verification.
I don't care about the whatsapp conversation anymore (as it would be impossible to retrieve as the history is stored in the phone itself due to the whatsapp nature). My little wish is to have my +61 number back as my whatsapp account....=[
Please, my fellow XDA Developers and N5 buddies, give me a hand... I could buy you guys a bear if there is a fix..
Thank you...
bump...
I only just started using Whatsapp -- I'm curious, what does it matter which phone # you have? Is the only reason to "recover" a phone # you don't actually have anymore the convenience of not telling all your friends about your new #?
Hi,
My girlfriend has the moto g and since this morning it's unusable: every second comes a crash message that a app fc. All apps belonging to Google (YouTube, calendar...) are crashing and especially the launcher. It's just possible to go to settings via quick toggles. But I can't delete any data etc from apps. And it won't accept any changes to any settings. I can't open any app because the launcher doesn't work...
The problem: it's an unrooted, totally stock phone with just a few apps (whatsapp, chronus...) . Now I wanted to ask if anyone can help and maybe knows this problem and how to fix it. And: I can't connect it to the PC (win7). Anyone has a link and a description to install the USB drivers? I tried all the "normal" ways with Motorola device manager and manually install USB drivers. I want to backup the messages and pictures before I try a factory reset. I rebooted it in secure mode, but all the problems still exist...
I hope anyone can help... Thanks in advance!
I want the moderator to ban me.

If it connects to the pc, you can easily make a backup of these things. The Problem is that it doesn't connect because i have problems finding the correct usb driver.

Already tried a factory reset - doesn't work. Can't even boot into recovery... Now it's sent back to Motorola I would love to know what happened there on a complete stock phone with just a very few apps and just used for messaging, calls and photos. I hope Motorola says what went wrong when the phone is repaired.
Try to uninstal apps and try instal again.Maybe not completed installed before.
My girlfriends phone started doing the exact same thing this morning, what was the outcome? Did they replace the phone?
Hey guys,
Im sending my OPO to RMA soon to fix the unresponsive and broken screen and will be using my Note 3 for the time being.
My note 3 is locked to a different carrier though so when I put my OPO sim card into it, it wont recieve any texts.
Is it possible to back up my whatsapp with out requiring reactivation? I use whatsapp a lot so it would be great if there was a solution.
I realise Titanium is a possible way to do it but my opo isnt rooted and im sending it off tomorrow.
Thanks!

Titanium Backup does it. I have my Whatsapp restored every time and it does not need verification.
Just copy the WhatsApp folder from your phone to the other phone.
