Hi my laptop died on me, so ive just bought a new one, I have the problem now of having no files on my laptop whatsoever, and a phone full of music, photos videos contacts etc that was synced with my old laptop.
Can i sync my phone now so that all the data on my phone goes on to my laptop, so it can just be updated via HTC Sync, because as soon as i sync it now, i shall lose everything of my phone then i shall be well and truly stuck!
Thanks
If you change the setup from htc sync, you can choose that only the files from your phone get synced to the computer.
Or you can choose disk drive and do it manually.
Why not attaching the device as a disk drive and copy the data to your laptop using windows(?) explorer?
Contacts are synced with your gmail account, which in it's turn can sync with pretty much any other CM software.
Hi thanks for the help, all sorted now. Wasnt sure how to change sync settings in order to sync from phone to pc though?

Hi guys,
I had my HD sync'd to my home computer, and everything was nicely uptodate (calendars, contacts/phonebook, notes etc).
I decided to install activesync on my work computer and sync it to that while at work. It said that "an existing partnership was on my phone with another computer", and asked me if I wanted to create a new partnership - so I did. But I made sure I did NOT sync my works outlook or calender, it was just a pairing, no data to sync.
Now i've come back home, plugged my HD back into my home computer, and it says that "an existing partnership was on my phone with another computer", and asked me if I wanted to create a new partnership, so I did (again). But this time it errors when trying to sync, and worse yet, all my calender appointments, and my entire contact list is empty on the phone!!
(im not stressing too much because I have a PIM backup, and everything still exists within outlook on my computer anyway)... But whats going on?
Is there a file or something stored on the phone that tells the computer that it is already partnered?
Is it possible to sync two machines?
Any advice, or help would be much appriciated.
Thanks.
Any ideas guys?
Hi guys
I just lost my Outlook.pst file and have had to recover using a backed up version which is a week old. I've also had to format and rebuild my laptop.
The only place I have the last week of emails is on my Windows Mobile phone, however when I connect this to the newly formatted laptop it considers this a new connection and I can't get those emails associated with the 'old' connection back and into my laptop Outlook.
It's a shame when you connect your phone activesync doesn't give you an option to say 'this is the same computer, sync using the same account' - it just assumes it's new and needs a different account.
Any solutions about how I can get these emails back would be very helpful!
Thanks

When you set up your sync settings did you set it to overwrite the items on your phone or PC?

I'm not sure what OS you're running on your PC but you need to delete your current sync relationship and start a new one. It should prompt you as to how data is dealt with between the 2 devices. Such as for new contacts, Replace on PC, replace on Device, or only add new to device.
I think you can also access this through the active sync settings on the phone itself.
i figured all that out, i just have one know
I can connect fine, i just want to know were or why i cant view all the folders like i used to be able to

Then you obviously have it set to over-write the phone. Thats why your files disappear after you sync.
You have to change that setting.

Hi all-
I am having some trouble with active sync and outlook. I have a standard rom fuze syncing to outlook 2000 on a windows xp computer. The other day after a sync I noticed my contacts in outlook were all deleted, yet they are still on the phone. I noticed in active sync on the computer that it is only syncing the calendar, favorites and files, not contacts. When I look in the active sync program on the phone I see that the contacts option is now grayed out and is not available to select. I am not worried about loosing my database, I use pim backup, I just want to get my contacts back onto my computer. I have been using windows phones for several years and have never come across this problem before..
I deleted the partnership both on the phone and on the computer, and then re established the syncing partnership. At first if appeared it would sync the contacts, but when the syncing process was done, I was back to where I started with the contacts grayed out again.
I did come across these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428257
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=264609
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=246075
and none of them provided any help to my situation.
One person did suggest installing some office xp updates which did not help, someone suggested to hard reset the phone but before I do that I wanted to ask if anyone knows of anything else I can try, and how I can prevent this from happening again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Handy thing that
thanks Jack of Clubs for the helpful link. I will definately check that out...
But for now, I need to get those contacts back into outlook. I use outlook to sync from my windows phone to a few nokia phones.
Anyone have any ideas I can try before a hard reset?
You didn't setup any type of exchange for your contacts for another server did you? Since my move to Vista/7 and the updated WMDC I haven't had that problem. Good luck...let us know how its sovled.
no, i don't have any type of exchange setup. just basic syncing to activesync through usb cable. quite baffling to me..
Deleted Out look contacts
This happened to me, luckily i found all my contacts in the deleted folder of Outlook and simply restored them, it has to do with the direction of syncing, i.e. pc to device or device to pc, on will over write the other......
yes, I did copy the deleted items back into the contact database.
I am trying to figure out how to re establish the syncing relationship between the phone and outlook..

Hey! Got a HTC touch diamond.
Yesterday i plugged in my phone for the first time to my computer running windows 7. It started syncing and stuff automatically. Once completed, all my contacts were gone from the phone, and there are none on the computer (its *****ing about that i dont have any software for the contacts, so it cant back them up or sth, coz i dont have outlook installed)..
The thing is, in my pim.vol file, i can see the contacts.. but they aren't on the phone. What to do?
Cheers
