Hi all-
I am having some trouble with active sync and outlook. I have a standard rom fuze syncing to outlook 2000 on a windows xp computer. The other day after a sync I noticed my contacts in outlook were all deleted, yet they are still on the phone. I noticed in active sync on the computer that it is only syncing the calendar, favorites and files, not contacts. When I look in the active sync program on the phone I see that the contacts option is now grayed out and is not available to select. I am not worried about loosing my database, I use pim backup, I just want to get my contacts back onto my computer. I have been using windows phones for several years and have never come across this problem before..
I deleted the partnership both on the phone and on the computer, and then re established the syncing partnership. At first if appeared it would sync the contacts, but when the syncing process was done, I was back to where I started with the contacts grayed out again.
I did come across these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428257
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=264609
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=246075
and none of them provided any help to my situation.
One person did suggest installing some office xp updates which did not help, someone suggested to hard reset the phone but before I do that I wanted to ask if anyone knows of anything else I can try, and how I can prevent this from happening again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

http://myphone.microsoft.com/ its free, use it next time.
Handy thing that
thanks Jack of Clubs for the helpful link. I will definately check that out...
But for now, I need to get those contacts back into outlook. I use outlook to sync from my windows phone to a few nokia phones.
Anyone have any ideas I can try before a hard reset?
You didn't setup any type of exchange for your contacts for another server did you? Since my move to Vista/7 and the updated WMDC I haven't had that problem. Good luck...let us know how its sovled.
no, i don't have any type of exchange setup. just basic syncing to activesync through usb cable. quite baffling to me..
Deleted Out look contacts
This happened to me, luckily i found all my contacts in the deleted folder of Outlook and simply restored them, it has to do with the direction of syncing, i.e. pc to device or device to pc, on will over write the other......
yes, I did copy the deleted items back into the contact database.
I am trying to figure out how to re establish the syncing relationship between the phone and outlook..

I can not seem to figure this dillemma out.. I have contacts in outlook from back when i used WM5 and they got synced up into my Outlook 2007 on my PC, since i've flashed my phone and am running WM6, those contacts refuse to sync into my phone, it seems that contacts with pictures wont go to my phone, ive even tried removing the image, i dont know what the deal is.. if i remove it it works, if i add the picture back in, it wont sync even if i make a brand new contact.. is this some known problem?
ps.. i just made a new contact on my phone, and added a pic for it, and clicked SYNC and it transferred to my pc with the image, so i tried changing the contact image on my pc in outlook and resyncing and it doesnt copy the new image over
I'm in having the same issue
lets try to figure this out, i think it's outlook, what do you think? i've reinstalled activesync many times so i doubt it's that
Hello,
I have tried searching but everyone is saying to backup my contacts via active sync. Well I have loaded active sync and well when I try to manage the connection, it won't let me click the box for "contacts". I can sync pictures etc but not contacts.
I don't have any #'s on the sim card because I haven't gotten around to fixing the phone to hide the sim contacts.
Is this the issue? Or is there something I don't have set right?
I did the Noob ATT remove bloatware guide and nothing else.
Thanks
i cant get active sync to update my contacts, like always, it replaces all new info i enter into previously saved contacts with the ones already stored on my PC, it is pissing me off cuz i never had such a problem with my iphone, had this exact problem with the HTC 8125 and thats why i had jump on the iphone bandwagon
Hi guys,
I had my HD sync'd to my home computer, and everything was nicely uptodate (calendars, contacts/phonebook, notes etc).
I decided to install activesync on my work computer and sync it to that while at work. It said that "an existing partnership was on my phone with another computer", and asked me if I wanted to create a new partnership - so I did. But I made sure I did NOT sync my works outlook or calender, it was just a pairing, no data to sync.
Now i've come back home, plugged my HD back into my home computer, and it says that "an existing partnership was on my phone with another computer", and asked me if I wanted to create a new partnership, so I did (again). But this time it errors when trying to sync, and worse yet, all my calender appointments, and my entire contact list is empty on the phone!!
(im not stressing too much because I have a PIM backup, and everything still exists within outlook on my computer anyway)... But whats going on?
Is there a file or something stored on the phone that tells the computer that it is already partnered?
Is it possible to sync two machines?
Any advice, or help would be much appriciated.
Thanks.
Any ideas guys?
i just got the at&t fuze as an upgrade from the tilt (kaiser) i have all my contacts on my computer but i cannot get it to sync onto the phone. i also have my latest backup file created with sprite backup but when i go to restore it tells me that i need some sort of "sbu" file to go from the old version of sprite to the new one on the fuze.
i would prefer to get all my old text messages back as well as my contacts by using the backup but it would be fine if i could just get it sync'd with outlook. please, can someone help me.
and yes befoe you flame me i have searched the forums but have come up short of a solution.
AFAIK, Sprite won't restore because you have a different device.
SPB backup works for inter-device restorals but only for PIM data.
FYI, PIM restorals will make manila function incorrectly. I suggest using Microsoft My Phone to back up and restore PINM data.
Can you sync through WMDC?
If you can sync but outlook is not syncing, its in your sync settings.
WMDC? Windows media? yes it will let me sync thru that, at least it shows up in the sync center anyway. i dont use my phone for playing music, i have tried installing the old acticesync 4.5 driver, tried turning off the advanced network functionality and i cant remember what else, name off some things and i'll let you know if i've tried them.
one thing i just noticed is that it shows up under portable devices as a windows mobile device
WMDC, Windows Mobile Device Center replaced active sync in Vista.
If you can see your device in WMDC, then you should be able to set up your outlook sync relationship through there.
I have sync'd to outlook this way previously but I only have POP3 going into outlook so I just bypass it.
when i open wmdc all it shows me is the settings window that lets you change settings like allow usb connections, whether to accept connections from bluetooth or com3 etc. i cant get it to show me anything else
SOLVED, i found a link to a tutorial that fixed it all. here http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/11/22/how-to-sync-your-windows-mobile-device-to-a-windows-vista-pc/
I'll be as brief as possible. If you need clarification, just ask. I don't expect to solve this problem quickly, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I cannot sync contacts with my main Live account (which is set up with Windows Live Domains). Whenever I leave the Contacts option checked, the phone displays "Attention required" after a few minutes of syncing, and then "Error 0x86000106". It also briefly displays "Contacts: 1/0".
Emails and appointments sync flawlessly on that account, and contacts syncing works flawlessly with *any other* accounts I have, even with another Live account with a custom domain.
Here's what I tried so far, without success:
- Posted this problem to the Microsoft Answers forum (no help)
- Hard resetted the phone
- Changed phone's time zone
- Changed phone's region and language
- Enabled logging (where's that log stored?)
- Removed and readded all my contacts (I have about 120 contacts)
- Tried syncing with just one or two contacts
- Tried syncing via both WiFi and OTA
- Tried changing some personal info on the account profile
I've actually found that error code on Microsoft's website, but they say it's related to Outlook/Exchange and Activesync (it's trying to sync a corrupted item, and removing the offender causes the sync to continue). However, I cannot imagine how that corruption could be possible as I am not using Outlook.
Any ideas? Is it possible to "clear" the account in any way?
Bump... Anything? Anyone? I had resetted the phone a few more times, still no luck.
Try this
Uncheck sync contacts, then sync the whole thing. Then check sync contacts and see if it works
wpxbox, thanks for the reply. I can't uncheck to sync contacts now because this is my primary ID (I can only uncheck email). However, I did some tests a while ago and used this ID as a secondary account - unchecking Contacts would yield a successful sync, but the error would come back if I check Contacts again.
Just as you said above, its probably trying to sync a corrupted contact, and removing the corrupted contact should let it sync successfully. It doesn't matter if you are using Outlook or not, the server itself is a Microsoft Exchange server, and very rarely, something like this happens.
More than likely, you'll have to find the offending contact and try to sync again.
I would export all my contacts, delete them from my Live account (clear it out completely), then separate the exported contacts into groups of 10 or 20 contacts each, and then import each group, and sync after each import. This will allow you to make sure your contacts all sync successfully, and if there is a corrupted one, you can narrow it down to the last group you imported of 10 or 20 contacts. Makes it easy to track down the culprit.
That would be a god way. Good idea
prjkthack, thanks for the reply but I already did that. Phone won't sync even with an empty contact list. Still could be a corrupt contact, but where would it be? I used Outlook to access the contacts list and see if something comes up but no luck either (btw, Outlook syncs flawlessly).
And before someone say it, I already contacted Microsoft about it but they just keep sending me back and forth between the Microsoft Answers team, the Windows Live Mobile team and the Windows Live forum without giving me any solutions at all.
Nothing? Oh well, I'm doomed....
