Contacts disappear after sync to PC? - General Questions and Answers

Hey! Got a HTC touch diamond.
Yesterday i plugged in my phone for the first time to my computer running windows 7. It started syncing and stuff automatically. Once completed, all my contacts were gone from the phone, and there are none on the computer (its *****ing about that i dont have any software for the contacts, so it cant back them up or sth, coz i dont have outlook installed)..
The thing is, in my pim.vol file, i can see the contacts.. but they aren't on the phone. What to do?
Cheers

Pocket Outlook broken!

I tried to install Microsoft's Outlook SMS add-in recently, which is meant to make desktop outlook work with text messages as well as emails, via your pocket pc. However, once installed it told me that I needed service pack 1 for windows XP which I dont have, so it wouldnt work. SO I uninstalled it...
It came off the computer fine but it left my Pocket Outlook in a mess and I cant sort it out. At first, my inboxes (for sms and email) were replaced with a new folder call 'IPM:root'. This folder contained all usual items such as inbox, outbox etc except they were all permanently empty. I got around this by restoring to a backup from the pervious day which was fine, but now the IPM:root folder has randomly reappeared!
The odd thing is that when I have new emails or texts, they show up on the today screen, but when I press them it takes me to an empty inbox.
Any help would be hugely appreciated, or I will have to do a hard reset, my last one was only about a week ago!!
i have the same problem .. and nobody has an solution for this ?? ;/
I found no solution.. I did a 'hard-reset' and didnt try to use that software again as it is very broken. This is annoying but necessary.
I posted request for solution weeks ago and never heard anything. Couple people also had same problem but only way to fix it hard reset.
I noticed the help in all my programs are also blank now. Which leads me to believe outlook and help uses some display program which got corrupted.
I had the same problem and the only way I found to fix it was to delete the exchange server from ActiveSync while connected to the PC and then I reconfigured it by unplugging and plugging the device from my machine.

Outlook Sync w/ Contact Pictures [fail]

I can not seem to figure this dillemma out.. I have contacts in outlook from back when i used WM5 and they got synced up into my Outlook 2007 on my PC, since i've flashed my phone and am running WM6, those contacts refuse to sync into my phone, it seems that contacts with pictures wont go to my phone, ive even tried removing the image, i dont know what the deal is.. if i remove it it works, if i add the picture back in, it wont sync even if i make a brand new contact.. is this some known problem?
ps.. i just made a new contact on my phone, and added a pic for it, and clicked SYNC and it transferred to my pc with the image, so i tried changing the contact image on my pc in outlook and resyncing and it doesnt copy the new image over
I'm in having the same issue
lets try to figure this out, i think it's outlook, what do you think? i've reinstalled activesync many times so i doubt it's that

ActiveSync Sync'd an empty address book after loosing partnership.

Hi guys,
I had my HD sync'd to my home computer, and everything was nicely uptodate (calendars, contacts/phonebook, notes etc).
I decided to install activesync on my work computer and sync it to that while at work. It said that "an existing partnership was on my phone with another computer", and asked me if I wanted to create a new partnership - so I did. But I made sure I did NOT sync my works outlook or calender, it was just a pairing, no data to sync.
Now i've come back home, plugged my HD back into my home computer, and it says that "an existing partnership was on my phone with another computer", and asked me if I wanted to create a new partnership, so I did (again). But this time it errors when trying to sync, and worse yet, all my calender appointments, and my entire contact list is empty on the phone!!
(im not stressing too much because I have a PIM backup, and everything still exists within outlook on my computer anyway)... But whats going on?
Is there a file or something stored on the phone that tells the computer that it is already partnered?
Is it possible to sync two machines?
Any advice, or help would be much appriciated.
Thanks.
Any ideas guys?

Activesync deleted my outlook contacts.

Hi all-
I am having some trouble with active sync and outlook. I have a standard rom fuze syncing to outlook 2000 on a windows xp computer. The other day after a sync I noticed my contacts in outlook were all deleted, yet they are still on the phone. I noticed in active sync on the computer that it is only syncing the calendar, favorites and files, not contacts. When I look in the active sync program on the phone I see that the contacts option is now grayed out and is not available to select. I am not worried about loosing my database, I use pim backup, I just want to get my contacts back onto my computer. I have been using windows phones for several years and have never come across this problem before..
I deleted the partnership both on the phone and on the computer, and then re established the syncing partnership. At first if appeared it would sync the contacts, but when the syncing process was done, I was back to where I started with the contacts grayed out again.
I did come across these threads:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=264609

and none of them provided any help to my situation.
One person did suggest installing some office xp updates which did not help, someone suggested to hard reset the phone but before I do that I wanted to ask if anyone knows of anything else I can try, and how I can prevent this from happening again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

http://myphone.microsoft.com/ its free, use it next time.
Handy thing that
thanks Jack of Clubs for the helpful link. I will definately check that out...
But for now, I need to get those contacts back into outlook. I use outlook to sync from my windows phone to a few nokia phones.
Anyone have any ideas I can try before a hard reset?
You didn't setup any type of exchange for your contacts for another server did you? Since my move to Vista/7 and the updated WMDC I haven't had that problem. Good luck...let us know how its sovled.
no, i don't have any type of exchange setup. just basic syncing to activesync through usb cable. quite baffling to me..
Deleted Out look contacts
This happened to me, luckily i found all my contacts in the deleted folder of Outlook and simply restored them, it has to do with the direction of syncing, i.e. pc to device or device to pc, on will over write the other......
yes, I did copy the deleted items back into the contact database.
I am trying to figure out how to re establish the syncing relationship between the phone and outlook..

FIXED! --- Outlook Sync Wireless not working after Hard Reset

I reset my phone and now I cant resync with my outlook. It keeps asking me for a damn certificate. Its this stupid WMDC in windows Vista . When I first sync back 2 years ago, it was in XP with the Active Sync software. That was a breeze. Now this crap wont let me do anything. I need to sync to my work email wirelessly. Its useless to get my updates only when I plug the phone to the PC. Thats why I am in front of the PC, I dont need the phone anymore. I tried the search tool and nothing came back that seems similar to mine.
Thanks.
Here is the fix in case yous all run into this crap.
