Nexus s or inspire??

Im using a nexus s right now. I love tthe screen on this phone and how snappy it is but I'm also on at&t. Meaning edge only. I could really care less about android 2.2 or 2.3 the thing I look for is screen quality and size. Next would be battery life. I came from an iPhone 4 and keep reverting back because of the battery life and network speed. Would you guys recommended an inspire over the nexus s? Is there anyone that has used the nexus s and iPhone 4 that can give me an unbiased opinion?

Get it. this thing is snappy. Dont go by that crap about the processor being outdated. This thing flys. I have used my friends evo 4g, man this thing blows it away. I dont know if its the ram or the processor is tweaked up. having used a few android phones, I can say right out that this thing is snappy.
If you can live without a front facing camera I would say go for it.

I've used all the phones you mentioned and I actually own the inspire, iphone 4, and a captivate. The captivate is similar to the nexus s.
The screen size is great. It will be hard for me to move to anything less then 4.3in from now on. Clarity is also great and is on par with the iphone, but much better then the samsung AMOLED. Contrast is much better on the AMOLED, though. Blacks do not look..err.. as black like they do on an AMOLED screen, but color are definitely more accurate.
Battery life is decent considering the phone has a small battery. The iphone definitely takes the cake in this segment, but the inspire is much better then my captivate was.
Speeds are phenomenal. I'm seeing speeds close to 4000kbps and they are only going to increase as the months pass. The inspire definitely holds the edge over the other devices here.
In short, this phone rocks. It is definitely the best device you can purchase through at&t right now and with it being easy to root should be more popular then the motorola atrix. Get it! You won't be upset.

Battery life is NOT as good as an iphone4, dont get me wrong, it's close, but I do find myself having to throw it on the charger at work or charge on my 20 minute commute to get through a day. Thats actually my ONLY complaint about it. It's faster than an ip4, does more, feels better in the hand, build quality is just as good if not better, and due to the stupid design on the battery cover neither battery is removable. Just kidding, you can replace the battery on the inspire, but it is not the easiest thing in the world. Watched the ATT rep break 2 trying to sell me one.

I'd say go for the Inspire, however, I will tell you that an At&t band Nexus S just past through the FCC. There is no release date yet but you'll have that option soon.

its not a nexus s its a galaxy S 2 and it will have dual core processor and a 4.3" screen. if your not in a hurry to jump on a phone then I would maybe see what that phone is like when released. If you are biting at the chomps to get a new phone then this phone is awesome.

I agree completely.. I'm probably going to pick the Inspire 4G up no matter what, but the Galaxy S II, specs-wise is intriguing. There are 2 glaring issues with the GSII though

The OS won't even support dual core until at least April and youre looking at even longer for developers to take advantage. So real world improvements with the dual core are several months out AT LEAST, and even then its almost exclusively going to be games. Sending TXT, email, phone, browsing, heck even watching video, a Snapdragon/GPU combo is more than enough. So its like cruising your Corvette in a school zone for 6 months

I'm not talking about the Samsung Infuse. That's what your talking about. That is the Galaxy S 2. Engaged reported the other day about the Nexus S itself being passed through the FCC.

Samsung is a joke in my opinion. They still have yet to release 2.2 for all their galaxy devices and keep coming out with the same galaxy devices, granted a couple extra inches added to the screen and newer versions(2.3) of touchwiz. Just my opinion again but wtf were they thinking releasing a vibrant on tmobile with a front facing camera and hspa???? Hello most vibrant owners have already made the mode themselves. Next post will be about their plastic=) Sorry but theyre a joke IMO right now

the infuse is NOT the GalaxyS 2 the Infuse will have a 4.5" screen and have a single core 1.2 processor. the GalaxyS2 has a dual core 1 gig processor with a 4.3" display

If you use gps then HTC will murder Samsung in that respect. I feel like the Nexus S was a poor choice to be the next Nexus device. It's too similar to the Galaxy S devices that have been out for quite a while. I came from the iP4 and also have a Captivate. The Inspire is fast. Really fast. I haven't noticed any lag and that's one of my biggest things. Using the Captivate is torture and I have it rooted and running Cognition.
This or the Atrix are the only really solid choices on AT&T for the next few months. The Infuse will be typical Samsung. Screen will be pretty and it will be the last of the three phones mentioned to get Gingerbread or any other updates.

The Ip4 has the best battery life of any smartphone with a 1ghz cpu IMO. I have used every highend android phone that has come out, including recently the Desire Z, Nexus S, and now the Inspire. I will skip out on the ATT 3G version of the Nexus S because at $560 with tax, it just isn't worth it espeically with other "better" phones coming out that will be the same price in the up coming months. It a good chance that the SGS 2 will be about $500 to $600 espeically with the Atrix at $500
I like the Inspire because of it's screen size, and definitly the cost per performance of it, only $430 with tax outright from ATT. IMO I don't see paying $140ish more for a phone with similar performance, on the otherhand I think if the Inspire was $500, that would be too much for the hardware.

True but the iphone is not clocked at 1ghz. it is the same cpu as ipad but clocled slower from what I have read.

I know this thread is old but I thought this information might be helpful for people who are stuck buying older phones.
I have both the Nexus S i9020A and Inspire 4G at the moment and I have made the following observations.
The Inspire HSPA connection (3mbps) is far better than the Nexus S (1mbps).
SMS fail to go through on the Nexus frequently.
Both phones are running 4.2.2 ROMs. The Inspire is far more responsive probably due to it's memory advantage over the Nexus.
The Inspire screen is larger and easier to type on and read. The colors are also more subtle and easy on the eyes.
The Nexus S screen has deeper colors but the default color profile makes the whites look yellow. Also, the pentile matrix is obvious and hard to look at.
Battery life is much better on the Inspire with 2 days of standby with WIFI, GPS, and HSPA/3G. Nexus S can only go about 12 hours with the same configuration.
The Nexus S is lighter but feels a bit more fragile.
The Nexus S is picky about which USB cables it will work with.
The Inspire camera can take finer quality pictures than the Nexus S camera.
The Nexus S is stuck with 16GB of storage while the Inspire is expanded to 32GB.
FWIW I'm on Straight Talk AT&T SIM

I own both. neither are on a mobile network, NS used to be, call quality was great. However, I literally got the Infuse about 30 minutes ago so I'm doing what I can with it to see how it is. It's pissin me off I can't get system updates bc of no SIM. I think I'm gonna work on something to put my Bionic SIM in it. I'll let you know a fair comparison of the two. so far, both, look awesome, feel awesome, both are snappy. NS4G has TONS of support, I'm about to see what that's like here for the Infuse, thats what I was coming to do when I stumbled across this. I'll post updates.
UPDATE: Already, when playing various games, I notice that the touch response on the Inspire is not nearly as sensitive as the Nexus, that's one reason I love my Nexus, is the intense screen sensitivity and of course, the screen in general. the AMOLED is amazing.

Captivate to Inspire to Atrix to Inspire... and Im back on the Captivate!

Well, after 3 weeks of trying the Inspire and Atrix, at the end of the day I am back on the Captivate! I think the AT&T store are sick of me becuase I got the Inspire then returned it for the Atrix, then returned the Atrix for the Inspire. Why? Sound quality, video quality, size, screen quality, buttons and ease of use.
So thats my 2c.
It is interesting to see how many people also own, or have all, all three devices.
Note that my Captivate has a custom ROM.

Lol, As much as people diss the captivate it's hard to find another android phone that can match it.

I returned the Inspire because of all of those reasons, but the Atrix had even more problems than that.

I had the atrix...it may be better on paper but I'll stick with the captivate

I got my Atrix, and no way am I going back to my Captivate full time... I'll miss the Captivate's screen, but in the end, the Atrix is a superior phone. Just waiting for my unlock code now so I can actually use it on my carrier, but damn, its insanely fast! Still keeping my Captivate for backup purposes and to satisfy my flashing addiction.
One thing I wish manufacturers would include, dual sim slots... Then I wouldn't need 2 separate phones, one for home and one for work... Seems simple enough and wouldn't be very costly to add, considering all the cheap Chinese knockoff phones come with dual and even triple (dual GSM and a single CDMA) sim slots which all work simultaneously.
Other than that and the inferior screen compared to the Captivate, it's pretty hard to complain about the Atrix, I hope the devs get around the bootloader or Motorola finally caves in and decides to let us unlock it if we chose to (like the Xoom), but I won't complain if it doesn't happen... I can get rid of the stock launcher easily and replace it with Launcher Pro Plus, Zeam or ADW, which is really my only complaint about Blur. I'm happy it doesn't include Gingerbread yet, as it's still quite buggy and really doesn't offer much over Froyo anyways... Besides, that leaves at least 1 update that will arrive soonish where Motorola may throw in the bootloader unlock if people complain enough. ... Of course I won't be holding my breath, but it would be nice.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, I'll put it through more rigorous testing in the coming weeks after I get my unlock code, I'm sure it'll perform just fine though.

I went into the store to play with the Atrix...To be honext it is an nice speedy phone. BUT with a custom rom (paragon 6.0) I did not really notice that much speed difference. I enjoy the captivate's screen MUCH more than the Atrix. Benchmarks I have seen, in some cases the Galaxy S comes out over the Atrix. I am sure when dual core is optimized via the o/s that will change, but for now...I am sticking with the captivate. I know many are down on Samsung, but i must say a Galaxy S 2 with the tegra 2 looks very tasty to me...

I'd be all over the Galaxy S 2 if it still had a 4" screen (and possibly a higher resolution), but the 4.3" screen is the deal breaker for me. Yes, I realize that the screen's quality is far superior to the Atrix's, but when all things are considered, the Atrix makes up for it in raw specs and awesome accessories...
The Captivate is already huge for a phone (in my opinion), I can't imagine using anything bigger than that. Thickness isn't a big concern for me (I don't see why people are so obsessed with how thin phones are, a mm or 2 really doesn't make a huge difference... But meh, to each his/her own), but the overall height and width is what really bothers me, at 125mm (~5"), it's huge compared to the Atrix's 117mm (~4.5") or even the Captivate's 121mm (~4.7")...
I'm more interested to see how well Samsung's dual core Exynos processor performs than the Tegra 2 on the Galaxy S 2, knowing how snappy the Hummingbird currently is and how long it kept the performance crown, I have no doubts that the Exynos will be able to hold its own against, and possibly even beat the Tegra 2.
And yes, I completely agree, until we see some optimizations in the OS and apps for dual core SOCs, there really won't be a huge difference between single and dual cores in terms of performance... Thankfully, Tegra 2 optimized apps and games are starting to pop up on the Market, so it's only a matter of time. Benchmarks really aren't a good way to measure performance between single and dual cores, they're not very accurate with single cores either (they vary greatly between different kernels, yet real world performance remains the same), so I take synthetic benchmark results with a grain of salt.
Either way, dual cores are still very much in their infancy, it can only get better from here, and if past phones are any indication, we're in for a hell of a year in terms of Android goodness.

Well I have played with an Evo, 4.3 inch screen, and I can handle it pretty nicely in my hands. I can't imagine much bigger though for a phone myself.
Phones and basically netbooks now. Not quite up to the power a laptop, but soon that will change. I do like the docks for the Atrix, but do not really want to pay $500 for it. I can get a good laptop for the price now. I want portable power in a small package.
I would say that the tegra will have a slight advantage only on the fact that there will be more software optimized to run on it most likely. Nvida is a big company imop that leads the pc gpu market.
Certainly going to be a GREAT YEAR for 'smartphones'...(almost think the name needs to change soon...

I have the captivate and nexus one right now, had the Atrix when it came out but took it back.
now I only use the Captivare to either play games or as a backup if the Nexus 1 dies on me.

Played with an atrix. Couldn't find a justification to buy it. Not very impressive. Liked the inspire more, but still not enough to give up the captivate

i was going to get the Atrix because of the lapdock but i read its not very functional as for the trackpad and a bit too pricey. still happy with my cappy, good thing we have developers busy making our captivate better everyday, since at&t is too busy with the iphone

For the first 4 months, I hated it. For the next 2, I thought it was alright. Since then it grew on me.

there are so many of these threads and soo many people have things they like about the captivate over there other phone. i messed with the atrix and like the webtop view but wish it did more than run firefox and web apps. it would be great if the phone view could be opened in multiple windows having all the active apps open at the same time if you wish but i guess you cant get everything. also a full text editor would be cool. i know it has office apps but a more desktop worthy app would be awesome in the webtop. but hearing that the inspire and atrix have lesser call quality makes me shy away from the atrix. the call quality is one of the best things about the captivate. plus the atrix does look a bit cheap with the back cover though i am gealous of the fingerprint reader and hdmi port.
now i want to put ubuntu on my phone so i can out do the atrix in the "hey my phone is a computer" catagory. my graphics benchmarks are already better. now we just need to find someone who can write a driver to get hdmi out from the usb port... hmmm i need to get my brother to stop playing wow, quit his night job and dev for android..

My friend bought and HD7, and as I played with it, the same charm the captivate had when I first saw it was pretty much non-existant. The Captivate is anything but perfect, but it is also anything but terrible. Oh, and it looks really bad ass too

1x today has taught me how much I don’t care about 4G

Aside from being pissed by the 1x at the top of the screen I was able to do everything I wanted to do. Sent text messages all day on Google Talk and Skype, downloaded the Amazon free app of the day (business calendar) in about 40 seconds. Updated a few other apps in about a min., received and responded to multiple emails all day long, uploaded a pic to facebook with no problems, And made calls... All on 1x!
Well there is a much bigger difference between 1x and 3G than there is between 3G and 4G…. So why would I ever sacrifice battery life on this device for that difference?

Unless you are using your phone for internet access for your PC via tether… I think everyone is just wasting battery life for nothing.

I did not buy the wrong phone at all!! I love the speed of the phone for running the apps. I love the screen, the 8MP cam, the great front facing cam. I bought this phone because it could run the Android OS very fast and smooth. Not at all for 4G.
Are you telling me you bought this phone just for the 4G???? If that’s the case I think I bought the phone for much better reasons than you did!

Love How Stable and Hackable HTC Phones are. Good Size screen, More Ram for Multi Tasking, Front Camera, Kickstand. This thing is a Beast Overclocked. Im Not in a 4g City bit when I go out of town (Which I do Often) 4G Is just Icing on the Cake.

There are plenty of better phones out there as far as performance and features go. The Thunderbolt is an inefficient beast; in the class of smartphones, it's metaphorically similar to the 17" Desktop Replacement laptop. In other words, it's big, heavy, and very power-hungry, relative to other members of its device class.
If you had waited until the May or June launch of the Samsung phones with the Tegra 2 dual core SoC with Nvidia graphics, that thing will absolutely blow your socks off, and probably also ship with Android 2.3 or 2.4 if it's out by then. Why buy a phone still using the old PowerVR SGX core if you are crazy about graphics performance, when the SGX is just a few months away from being eclipsed by Tegra 2 phones?

It's the first LTE smartphone to market. Ever. Period. In the whole world. And you're telling me you bought it because it's fast? Pssh -- as far as the non-networked components go, it's basically no better than a Droid 2. It's the last model to use 2009-2010 era SoC, and the only reason it doesn't use something more cutting-edge is because the brand new chips are still being debugged and tested, and they needed a phone out in March.
The Thunderbolt has a separate radio chip for the CDMA/EvDO and the LTE. This is highly suboptimal from both a power standpoint and size/weight. Qualcomm says they can probably have chips available by early 2012 that offer both traditional CDMA, voice, and LTE in a single integrated circuit, which would also probably use smaller fabrication process technology for even less power consumption and weight. The Thunderbolt is a "hack" as far as smartphones are concerned; it's very unusual for any kind of phone to have two radios in it (even if it supports more than one radio protocol, they're usually supported together on a single chip). The phone was rushed, hence why they couldn't wait for Qualcomm to get their integrated LTE+CDMA chip together.
You can rip the Thunderbolt apart this way by looking under the hood and pointing out its many limitations and flaws. The only thing that stands out -- the only killer feature that sets this apart from the Droid 2 or any other 2010 Android-based 3G phone -- is the LTE. If not for the LTE, the Thunderbolt is just a power-hungry, heavy version of the Droid 2 (or Droid X, I guess, since it lacks a hardware keyboard too).
Since Verizon locks you in to a two year contract, you should really be planning ahead a bit unless you have $600 - $750 to sink on a retail smartphone. If you had waited for just a few more months to get the more killer "core specs" (CPU, GPU, RAM) on the phones coming out in the latter half of 2011, you would be getting the first round of the next generation of the CPU/GPU bump. And since that's what you seem to value (moreso than the bandwidth), that's probably what you should have waited for.
Now you're stuck with a phone (as am I) that will have significantly underpowered specs by the time the two year term is up -- it's entirely possible that new Android apps and games written in Q1 2013 (the last stretch of your 2 year term) will not run at all on your Thunderbolt, or lag so badly that they're unusable, because they are tuned to run on e.g. the Tegra 2 or later dual core platforms.
But I don't play games on my phone, so that doesn't matter to me. The LTE is why I value this phone so much and bought it, and since I don't exercise the CPU/GPU as highly as cellphone gamers, it probably won't matter a lick to me that in early 2013 I won't be able to play Angry Birds 3 on my Thunderbolt. I'll be satisfied that I got a full two years worth of fast LTE service, and that's what's important to me.
So just saying, if you don't care about the extra bandwidth, you made a fairly bad choice. The other aspects of the Thunderbolt are gonna be obsolete pretty quick because the non-network parts of the phone are built around a late 2009 platform, so unless you want to shell out retail when Tegra 2 phones hit, you might come to regret your purchase in about a year.
In comparison to graphics cards, it'd be like buying a Nvidia GTX 280 (supporting DirectX 10.1) a month before the Fermi cards hit the shelves (supporting DirectX 11).

Yeah guys, this was a 4G phone first and foremost. The screen, processor and ram are all average. Actually the screen is already outdated with QHD screens out. Not to mention the phone is a heavy beast with a tiny battery. Don't get me wrong I love the TB, It looks great and is fairly powerful, but the main reason I bought it was to have 4G. Now I can get rid of my cable modem. But to the point of the OP, when not tethering it actually works great with just 1x or 3G
If I didn't care about 4g I would have waited for a dual core, qhd device to come out. I wanted the Bionic which has all of the above, but they keep pushing it out amid massive development problems.

I cant download roms on the fly with Rom Manager, or update CM7-alpha while im out of the house on 1x.. thats really the only thing I saw

So sell your Thunderbolt, get a RAZR, it seems that should suit you fine. Plus then you don't have to worry about battery life.
Your post today has taught me how much I don't care about what you say.

1X for a day made me have the exact opposite realization. I live in a 4G area and I am getting so spoiled by the lighting fast speeds (sometimes faster than my home broadband connection). When I had 1X, I couldn't send MMS, browsing the web was painfully slow and it was generally all around a miserable experience.

Wasn't able to steam anything at all. No AudioGalaxy, YouTube, Hulu, other Flash content. Web browsing was ridiculously slow. Downloading and installing updates was painful.
I have missed my LTE. Sorry you don't use your phone to its full capacity but some people do. I'd rather my phone not be limited to the speed of the network. If you're cool with it, congrats.

So agreed! Even when I got it to go onto 3G I still was like "Ughhhhhh!" Yeah, 3G is decent, but 4G is incredible. If >10X faster doesn't make a difference to you, maybe this isn't the phone for you. I noticed the difference all day. Sure, it doesn't take that long to download an app on 3G, maybe 30 seconds to 2 minutes, but you can't tell me that waiting 2 minutes is the same experience as it happening virtually instantly. On my phone, I want things happening quickly. I wanna be able to get it out and get to what I wanted to do quickly so I'm not just standing there waiting on my phone on the sidewalk. I mean, come on, with 4G most things are practically instant -- 3G there's always some waiting. If waiting is something that's okay, maybe conventional ovens are just as good as microwaves and cable internet is just as good as fiber optic, etc.

Having a 4G thunderbolt without 4G connection was the least enjoyment i've ever got out of this phone.
I've literally been twitching from the withdrawal.
4G is a night and day difference from 3G, no questions asked.

I used Wifi at Home and Work, so I was unimpacted.
And to the one guy with the long story, true this is a 2009-2010 phone, and I ONLY bought it to lock myself into cheap 4G/LTE pricing before it gets out of control and data caps, etc...
...but unless gaming is your thing, the Thunderbolt will do 90-95% of everything you need for at least the next two years. Sure I was holding out for the Galaxy SII, and I will probably sell the TB and buy a Dual Core phone off contract with the money that I make, but that is not even an issue at this point because this phone does EVERYTHING I need.

I love my TB, i haven't even gotten to use 4G yet and i love it compared to my Eris. I think 3G is fast enough now that I have a phone that can handle using it lol. Also every Android phone will be obsolete after a year, this forum is proof that the hardware cannot keep up with the advancements in technology. I agree with you on selling my TB to get a phone with a Dual Core or a nicer video card but this phone gets me through the day and more using "Mobile Network" only when i need it because you don't need that sh!t on to text or call. Everyone that complains this thing is a heavy beast you are a retard imo, its a F'n phone its in your pocket and you don't feel it 95% of the day. When you hold a phone its usually for just over a minute maximum. If your holding off on the purchase of a phone because of weight you are a dumbass.

WOW at this thread lol espcially wow at the guy who said 1x was fine. I know personally I do tons of stuff that require the internet. Facebook/twitter/youtube/email/browsing. All that sucked on 1x it was like being on 56k I could only do one thing at a time and on top of that it did it slowly. Now my 4G is back I can surf the net pop over to facebook and twitter and still stream music/youtube with out missing a beat. 4G is serious

+1, this is exactly what I was thinking when I read that post.

Turns out that I did care. My home WiFi happened to crap out the day before. While I did what I could to fix it, it became a lower priority with this phone. D'oh!
As to the larger issue of why buy this phone, I will chime in. Until VZW recently turned on LTE where I live, I thought it was going to be at least a year out. I was wrong. I had planned on buying a Dinc 2, as I loved my Dinc, and it would hold me out until LTE was where I was, and by then i'd have a number of choices.
Why I bought the Tbolt 2 weeks ago: 4G locked in at this price for at least 2 years. Can't predict the future, but this matters to me. Next: developer support. I don't like Moto, and devs really do an amazing job with HTC phones. I worried that the Dinc 2 would get no (or less) love. The LG and Sammy phones may turn out to be great but they are not released yet, and who knows what kind of dev support there will be.
Lastly, the sooner I upgraded (I was sitting on an early upgrade for almost a year), the sooner I can upgrade to the next or next next gen phone.
Phone has a bug or two, but no regrets at all (already rooted), and as I said I had thought my rooted Dinc was awesome.

Galaxy S2 vs. iPhone 4 vs. LG E900 vs. Lag myth

So I made this video to put an end to this nonsense myth about lagging propegated by people who have no idea at all what they're talking about.

As can be seen the S2 is the only device which performs smoothly on all fronts. The menu is smooth, webbrowser is smooth and gaming is smooth.
The iPhone 4 has problems loading taxing sites and clearly does lag in a very annoying way. I can also point to several situations where the iPhone 4 clearly lags in a very annoying way. Didn't have games on there but gaming is good as we all know very well.
WP7 has a smooth menu and everything looks nice. Does lag in the browser but it's not as annoying as the iPhone 4. Altho the main menu is smooth some apps do lag horribly, like the Xbox Live app. Gaming is horrible on this device altho I hear it's better on the Lumia 800.
All devices are Wifi N but the S2 is the only one who achieves good rates. The LG is the phone with the worst download rate and the iPhone 4 comes in second.
I know both youtube and 9gag have mobile sites which work better but I picked these sites off the top of my head as a showcase. There are enough sites out there which do not have a mobile site and are taxing to load.
So in conclusion, S2 Android is the best and doesn't lag, iPhone 4 doesn't lag usually but when it does it is the worst. Also there are several case in which the phone starts lagging so bad that it feels as if the phone has crashed.
WP7 has mediocre lag, the lag is there but workable.
All phones have been hard reset, I was in the process of reinstalling my S2 when the idea occurred to me. This is why the S2 has some apps on it and both the iPhone 4 and LG are stock and fresh.

I don't have one here rightnow but I can say that it's webbrowser is more or less the same.
The only real improvement the 4S has to offer on the lag front is the following. If you have a lots of menu pages (8 pages is best for demonstration but it starts at 5), you go to the end of your menu and then press home. You'll see that on the 4 it clearly starts to lag and on the 4S this doesn't happen.
I wanted to film this too but it would take too much effort to fill the menu with apps right now, maybe later. I think the point has been made and as you can see the iPhone isn't the holy grail of lagfreeness some might have you believe.

I don't know who this Zee is but I'd welcome his input. I made this thread to open up discussion not to start a flame war. The video it self isn't perfect and open for criticism but I didn't make it to be perfect. I made it just to show there is lag in Apple.

Anyway,talking about what 1gb of RAM can be used for...

I did a vid last night to show lag free ui using screencast but not uploaded it anywhere yet, even capturing video and superimposing a visual pointer to show where and when touches happened on screen in realtime I was able to swipe through screens and folders etc with no lag.
In fact it was so quick you barely see the pointer on screen where I touched screen to initiate action but still people say it lags.
Only lag I notice is opening or installing apps on stock gb rom.
I saw zee mentioned, surprised he hasn't commented yet as usually android lag is something he comments on. He has wp7 and android and says that android has lots of lag where wp7 is flawlessly smooth. Be interesting to see his take as he has used all phone systems whereas I haven't so can only speak from experience of android but to me the ui doesn't lag.

WP does not even support dual core cpu yet.

When people says that iphone doesn't lag they mostly mean that it has 60fps buttersmooth interface without any dropped frames most of the time (In my opinion incorrect use of the word lag though).
It is physically impossible to show such smoothness on a 30fps hard compressed youtube video that isn't captured in sync with phone screen refresh rate.
I find my SGS2 pretty smooth most of the time, so I'm not defending iPhone (in fact I dislilke iPhone...), but your video is not enough to visualize the smoothness of the phones.

Honestly tho the comparison is a bit ubalanced imho: you compared the fastest android device on the market (i know how good it is, i owned one for 5 months) with possibly one of the slowest and oldest WP7 devices, and ofc the iPhone4 is as well a piece of history nowadays. To be fair you should have compared similar hardware: the LG phone you have there has the same hardware (cpu+gpu) as the HTC Desire, but compared to it the Desire feels like a sluggish piece of **** (not talking out of my ass, i've been using one for over a year), even if you tweak it and OC it like hell. Anyway there's no denying that right now even with the latest hardware WP7 sucks badly in terms of gaming, and the few games we have are insanely overpriced. Android has good hardware and good games, and many free ones look way batter than most "top" WP7 games; not that i really care tho, i'm not a heavy gamer and therefore this doesn't bother me much. Anyway in terms of usability WP7 is a pretty sweet spot between Android and iOS imho: it's, refreshing and new, pleasant to use out of the box and you don't have to spend 600€ nor hack the phone in order to have a smooth and consistent experience.

He may have compared the fastest android phone on the market, but the simple fact of the matter is that the GSII has outsold any other android device by far (over 15 million). I still believe more people have an Iphone 4 and not a 4s, and is there a such thing as a popular WP7 device? So either way he is comparing the top sellers of each OS.

I still think that the simple fact that most people have a specific phone doesn't make it the best one. If it was so then the Galaxy 5 aka i5500 would be an amazing phone compared to the Titan, but last time i checked it was a cheap low end Android and sucked balls. Ok sorry, just kidding.
Anyway call me weird, but i still think that a fair comparison is the one between devices with at least comparable specs (or at least price tags), rather than the one between those with comparable sold units. I know there isn't such a thing as a dual-core WP7 device, but there's quite a big difference between a Snapdragon [email protected] and a Snapdragon [email protected], believe me.

I'm actually surprised at the lack of attention this thread is getting, seeing as there have been quite extensive (and usually unproductive) discussions on this subject I was expecting people to flock to this thread.
The iPhone 4 / 4S is irrelevant IMO. The iPhone 4S has only been released recently and isn't mainstream yet. Past discussions have always concerned the 4 for one and the 4S does nothing to solve the issues I've demonstrated.
As for the question: "Why these phones", these are the ones I had in the shop at the time. I'll see if I can update or add when I have other devices.
As for my credentials, I own several repair shops (yes actual physical shops not somebody who works at home). I pride myself in being able to repair just about any phone with any issue unless it has water damage. I have most popular phones in stock and I also deal in used phones. Thus I have easy access to all the phones and I also get to play with all of them.

Not really, picking a "high end" one like the Titan or the Lumia should be fair enough imo. I have this Omnia W here which should behave fine enough (despite being a mid range phone it still packs the latest gen WP7 SOC) but unfortunately I sold my GS2 a couple weeks ago because I was low on cash, so I can't make a decent comparison myself.

I've had a Lumia 800 here and to be honest it doesn't matter that much. Games are still jerky, the XBox Live app is the same and the browser is the same. When it comes to specs most WP7 devices aren't that much different from one and other. The Lumia 800 has better specs but that bit extra doesn't really make a big difference in the end.

Yeah I wasn't talking about games, we all know they suck on WP7. But as far as regular usage is concerned my Omnia W feels a lot snappier compared to the Omnia 7 I've had for a few months. Ofc there's no night and day difference, but they are different to be honest.

What do you think? Seeing what android does on 4 cores still doesn't make me miss android and it's poor responsiveness and lag. I'll stick with my Lumias. That said, the One X jumping onboard the polycarbonate train behind Nokia was not a bad move, it's certainly their best looking device to date and if Nokia wasn't around, a WP7 variant might be my next phone.

Honestly I don't really like the One X. Tegra is 100% marketing crap. it's ridiculous that you have to deal with a browser forced to suck due to the stupid companion core that doesn't let the quad core goodness kick in. To me the One S is a much better phone: it's more pocketable, it has a good S4 SOC doing its job flawlessly (and smoking Tegra pretty much everywhere). The One X is such a waste. Also, I really don't get why pretty much every OEM is pushing for making bigger and bigger screens month after month. Nowadays if you wanna have a phone with good internals you have to carry a ****ing tablet in your pocket, everything else is "mid range". Honestly the GS2 was already too big for me. I'm pretty sure at some point I'll be forced to use an iPhone because everything else will be too big for my pockets. I really hope that at least on WP I'll still be able to find some decently specced device with a 4" screen in the future, I really don't like where the market is heading. By the way, the 900 is way too big and heavy for my taste. I'm 174 cm tall and I wear relatively skinny jeans, I'd look like a moron carrying something like that around in a pocket, not to mention that I'll drop it make it look like crap it in a couple days. I have both, but Lumia is going on sale. too limited for now IMO and seeing how good performance is on my X, i wont miss WP7 smoothness ATM. Also, my Lumia never gets close to the LTE speeds my X (and last phone, Vivid) get. My One X gets around 22-30mbps and lumia averages at 5-8mbps... No clue why. Lumia feels more solid though and like the weight of it
Im sure ill look at next gen WP8 phones from Nokia later on, but I rather have everything I need now rather than wait for something better having a somewhat limited feel with my phone

went through that phase, I was crack-flashing roms and kernels just to create the smoothest experience possible. Then, I tried wp7 and it was smoother than anything android could produce out of the box.

Half the guy mustache is missing. Lol.
Too bad the OS is hampering the Lumia camera back.

The software/hardware conflict with the camera is sad, but not as bad as the conflict with every android phone and the general UI of it all. I'll take a camera that's a bit grainy in the dark over lag and instability any day.

Hey I love that everything looks way better on that 5" screen but l feel it looks ridiculous when you're holding it up to your ear while on a call. And a 3.5" screen is way too small to do anything other than make calls and sms. 4.3 is perfect for me. But it does look like 4.3+ is going mainstream now. And I thought girls wouldn't buy them either, but in the last few days I've seen 2 women holding Notes. So hey, no need to worry fellow nerds ;-)
