[Q] Who is getting Nexus Prime at launch? - General Questions and Answers

I'm thinking of selling my Nexus S early so I can best price possible.. Do you think the price for an used Nexus S will drop once Nexus Prime is announced (not launched)?
I bought it off contract so I'm not locked into any contracts. Will they be available for T-Mobile at launch or only Verizon (as rumored by some)?
Do you think it will be worth it to upgrade?

I for one will be jumping ship on the Nexus line. You can get better hardware and AOSP on other devices so why buy a rebranded GS or GS2?

I'll pick it up - just have to decide on which carrier (we'll see what's announced on Oct 11th).

As far as Sprint costumers goes we are out of luck, since BB is practically giving the NS4G away. I guess if someone needed a phone but didn't. Have an upgrade I could possibly get at least $200 for it but I just don't know. I tell you what my mother in law just got the Epic 4g touch and that is a nice piece of hardware, had me thinking about a change for a minute.

I'm waiting on it, picked this nexus s up brand new for only 200. have offer to sell at 260 , and go back to my blackberry for awhile till the prime comes out. If Verizon release only, probably just hold onto to this for awhile with the ics is.

I would have but I had no idea the Nexus Prime would be coming out this year. Just got my Nexus S over the summer . Oh well it's still a great phone either way and I'm assuming the Nexus Prime will be great as well seeing that Samsung is manufacturing it again .

hands down on AT&T version

The rumor is that at time of release, Prime will be only on Verizon. If that is the case I will happily enjoy the tasty Ice Cream Sandwich on my Nexus S
If it is on AT&T or T-Mobile, I will probably get it.

If it comes out on sprint the week is released or around october then yes hopefully the day after its announced on sprint as a 17 bday present as well as a new ps3 : D you know this.counts if it has those rumored specs especially 720p screen lol
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk

I'll stay with the Nexus S for the time being, just in case I don't happen to like the Ice Cream Sandwich update........ I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love it but you never know!
If I decide to get one, it won't be for another 6 months at least!

I get your logic I have some points:
I believe Google does a good job of customizing this specifically for us geeks that want a pure android experience.
Google handpicks the best phone they can find to be a Nexus phone. I think Google knows a thing or two about Android phones and if Google says this phone is worthy of carrying their Nexus name then its good enough for me.
Not all phones have an ASOP Rom available. I tried the Bionic out and couldn't find a pure ASOP rom for it. Not to mention the screen was aweful.
Nexus devices get updates much much faster than carrier branded devices.
I was trying to figure out battery life the other day but looking at the GS2 specs after being disappointed to see the GS2 specs I decided to compare the GS1 (Captivate, Vibrant) specs to the Nexus S. To make sure that the Nexus and Galaxy being the same hardware meant the same battery life. The Nexus S has twice the battery life for the same battery. It seems unlikely that the skin alone is cutting the battery life in half. There has to be something else about the Nexus devices that make the battery so much more efficient.
Go to Phonearena[dot]com and compare the handsets for yourself. I personally can't wait to get my hands on the Prime (Galaxy Nexus or whatever they all it).

waiting for the AWS version

Dont forget....in 5 months from now THE LAUNCH of GS3...

it's always a step ladder game
SGS# will always be the flagship
then a new version of Nexus # will always follow behind with the stuff of the previous SGS# and a couple of new extra, and new OS
it's a very good strategy by Samsung, to recycle the left over parts from mass producing SGS#

I will have the Nexus Prime in my pocket the HOUR it launches for Verizon. Ah, the joys of working for Big Red...indirectly, of course...

Is T-Mobile's 4G coverage much better than 3G?
My 3G is horrible. I get 'emergency call only' in some of my classes, while other carriers' phone gets some bars.

I sure hope that the specs in the updated section is true.
- dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos
- dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2
- 8 megapixels camera
- 2,050mAh battery
If it is true, I would definitely get it!! As for the old specs, I don't mind the TI processor, but 5MP back cam and 1.3MP front cam is so Galaxy S1.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/06/samsung-galaxy-nexus-specs-leak-headed-to-verizon-as-an-exclusi/

I would love to...but no Staying with my Nexus S for now.

Nexus 2 anyone?

Google and Samsung are at the center of this rumor coming straight out of left field that claims they will be announcing the Nexus Two running Android 2.3 at a press conference on November 8th. If this rumor holds water, then this is truly something that nobody expected. The original Nexus One may have been dubbed the true “Google Phone,” but the fact of the matter is that HTC was the phones manufacturer. The device didn’t sell as expected, as it was only available online. It never reached the retail channels that Google claimed it would eventually. The phone was even slated to hit Sprint and Verizon but was shelved when similar (and more impressive) Android handsets hit the market. If this will be the first Android phone to run on 2.3, then this should be a phone worth some serious attention. This very well could be the software branded Gingerbread, even though other rumors had it as version 2.5 or even 3.0. The rumor also says that the phone will be coming to multiple networks. So to summarize, the Nexus Two is supposedly going to be produced by Samsung. Any of you Galaxy S users out there pissed? I mean, you guys are still on 2.1 at the moment, although 2.2 is surely around the corner. Then again, this is a rumor so it could turn out to be just a crock. But hey, November 8th is only a week and a half away. Tell us what you think down below, and let the rumor mill start churning.

Oh not Samsung. I've had Galaxy S im my hands it is a very good phone (mostly because of the hummingbird processor ) but its all plastic and looks "iphonish", HTC on the other hand have better quality build but cheaper performance. I do hope that Google will dictate what Nexus 2 should look like and that it will not be all plastic!

The best and the only screen SAMOLED is made by Samsung and nor HTC or Motorola have access to it. The biggest problem with Nexus 1 is the crappy thouchscreen, so it would make ALOT of sense to go with Samsung and use its SAMOLED2 (2gen samoled has higher resolution) technology.
A Samsung manufactured NEXUS TWO with an extraordinary processor & a superb AMOLED screen is just way too awesome , If the same is sold in stores instead of the web & that too worldwide instead of just one launch country it could be the most successful android handset ever .
I have a Vibrant, and I'm not pissed because if this is true I'll be selling it and pre-ordering this phone.
I do however, wonder who owns the rights to call the phone a Nexus. I had figured it was named/owned by HTC, but if this is true I guess not.

Release In August

[/B]Samsung is preparing to release the Galaxy S2 at last! We give you the latest on the Attain, Within, Function and Hercules inside.
Shin Jong-kyun, President of Samsung Mobile Business and Digital Imaging, told a Korean newspaper this week that the Galaxy S2 will be launched in the U.S. market sometime in August. While Samsung has released several new Android smartphones in recent months, such as the Droid Charge for Verizon and Infuse 4G for AT&T, the new flagship we've all been waiting has only appeared in leaks and rumors. The Galaxy S2 is by far the most feature-rich smartphone Samsung has come up with to date, and is expected to be available on several carriers.
Samsung Attain for AT&T
Ever since the Samsung Attain appeared on Samsung's official Facebook page in early June, it's basically just been a matter of time before we would see an official release. Last year's Captivate shined like a true star a year ago, and the Attain is expected to be a worthy successor. TouchWIZ 4 atop Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the name of the game for the Attain, coupled with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 4G HSPA+ connectivity, dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. In other words, it'll pretty much challenge the ATRIX 4G by Motorola directly, and could eventually give the iPhone 5 a hard time.
Samsung Within for Sprint
A hands-on photo of what is expected to be the Samsung Within for Sprint appeared only a few days ago. This version is specifically said to offer Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, the recently released version that enables Google Talk video chats via Sprint's 4G network. The Within is also expected to offer integrated Google Voice and Google Wallet services. Like the Attain, it's also expected to offer a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 8-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing cameras, as well as being packed with power under the hood in true Galaxy S2-grade style.
Samsung Function for Verizon
When Verizon introduced the Fascinate last fall, it instantly became a top-seller courtesy of its social networking focus. The follow-up, the Continuum, took the concept even further. However, the upcoming Samsung Function is expected to not only embrace the social networking crowd, but also business users. The Function has been equipped with Stealth MMXI technology, and is expected to take on the Droid Bionic in the "über-smartphone with 4G LTE connectivity" category this fall. Who the heck needs the 3G-only Verizon iPhone 5, anyway.
Samsung Hercules for T-Mobile
The Samsung Vibrant ruled T-Mobile's HSPA network last year, and the Samsung Hercules aims to rule the carrier's HSPA+ network this year, promising theoretical speeds of 42Mbps downlink and 6 Mbps uplink. While details of the Hercules are scarce, TmoNews recently reported that it is slated for release in late September. We imagine that's also when the above-mentioned Function for Verizon will appear, as they'll probably not all be released simultaneously. Interestingly, TmoNews has heard that it may get a 4.5-inch screen as opposed to the 4.3-inch screen found in the original Galaxy S2.
Im ready now.
It's about time we get this Beautiful Beast. I will be getting this and the Hercules when it's released in September.
I will eagerly await to see what the Great Developers come up with for these. I may even toss in a few requests after I see what they can and can not do.
WooHoo

My birthday is also in August, but I'm in the middle of a contract right now, so I highly doubt I'll be picking up the Attain anytime soon. I still love my Captivate, even if the battery life kinda sucks on any ROM but completely stock.
Excited for rogers to release something to rival the sgs2 for me to warrant me to get rid of my cappy.
If sgs II came out in june-july i would have already bought it
However im just gonna wait for android 4.0. now. Captivate is still a decent phone

My two cappys are GREAT PHONES. One with CM7 perfection and the other with either the i897 Gingerbread or right now Apex 8.2 and I Love them Both. The ONLY phone I will TRADE UP for is the SGS2. I just tested my cappy cm7 against the Atrix 4G yesterday at the ATT store and my cappy was faster using speedtest than the atrix 4g side by side. Just barely beat it in upload and download speeds but it DID. So to me the SGS2 should BLOW it away. I also found out that I available for my next upgrade on August 31st. So HOPEFULLY lime my Cappy's 1007 builds it will be the second builds without the issues of the first builds

I wouldn't dream of being one of the first in line for one. After the horrible initial release and ensuing support from Samsung on the Galaxy S they have a long way to go to prove to me I should "upgrade". They obviously do not care if they rush out flawed hardware and when they do there is absolutely no effort to make things work properly. I'm mainly talking about the GPS issues but others as well. If I am buying into a device that is supposed to showcase a "location aware" OS then I sure would like it if my device had some clue where I was at. It doesn't even get the state I'm in correct a lot of the time, if it tells me where I'm at at all! I'm eligible for an upgrade in 2 months and my wife's HTC Inspire seems to be fairly dependable. I know for one thing the speed sure makes my Captivate look like decades old technology. If Samsung had shown any loyalty to us early Galaxy owners then I might feel a little loyalty back. Since they care about the almighty dollar more than they care about the customer then I will respond likewise. If HTC, which I've had HUGE success with in the past, offers me a good deal I'll happily jump ship from Samsung.
Yea it's going to be extremely hard for me to buy another carrier branded handset. Unlocked is the way to go. Glad they are finally getting the SGS2 out in the US though.

Yea. I'd be worried about that because I have insurance on my phone and use at least once or twice during a phones contract period due to my carelessness. Although I think they might still honor a insurance claim, I'm almost sure they won't do a warranty claim from those circumstances.

Loving my cappy still, but wish it had a forward facing camera and a flash. The GPS is better than it used to be due to some tweaks here and there. I also just installed the Telenav free version for the vibrant 4g and going to give it a jog this week on a road trip to see how it does.
Apex 8.2 w/Dark Core 2.9 & Tegrak OC to 1.2ghz
Wait for it
Sell your cappy off ebay, buy SGSII. 700-200=+500. Get ready to cough up some ca$h.
I'll be getting it for sure. I currently have the captivate, infuse and inspire, I bought the inspire off craigslist for $200 and gave it to my gf. Her upgrade is up in August so she'll probably buy the gs2 and ill see captivate and inspire for $500 I hope and pick up the galaxy.

Think I should go for the Galaxy S II or wait?

I'd get it off contract because I'm crazy and illogical. But the Galaxy S II looks great, even if ATT shrunk the screen. I know the Nexus Prime is coming out soon, but I am iffy on it. All of the previous Nexus's seemed to fizzle out quickly or something, though I know none were ever made by the current Samsung beast company.
I guess I should wait for that announcement. A curved screen isn't weird, is it?
Att didn't shrink the screen. Their version, the I777, is the closest to the original S2. The other carriers mess with their versions more.
I plan on waiting for the Nexus Prime. I'm pretty sure it's going to set the new standard for smart phones in 2012.
Ya I'm kinda in the same boat. But the important thing is whether the nexus it galaxy will have the most active community because for me that is really what made my phone. Also I saw somewhere that Samsung is coming out with 1.5ghz chips for their phones in the spring and you may wanna wait for that

I'll bleed for S ll
I want phone off contract but don't want to derail budget. Realized if I donate blood that's sixty to seventy dollars a week..
i'm waiting to see about the prime. some rumours are it will be CDMA/Verizon. besides, it's only tuesday
I would wait for not necessarily the prime but a phone with:
- 720p screen
- Quad Core cpu (Kal-El hopefully because I am sick of looking at games like shadowgun and I cannot play. I know there is chainfire3d but it does not work for all games)
Nexus Prime sounds perty nice, but looks like it may be a Verizon exclusive for now.
I was REALLY looking forward to the S II on AT&T, but it's taken so long to get here that at this point I'm thinking of holding off for the Galaxy Note (possibly early 2012). It may to big for some but I like the S pen thing and will be using it for business.
PLayes with the S II yesterday for a few minutes. It was nice and my captivate is getting long in the tooth... Tempting, but I will likely wait (for the Note).
As for waiting for the Nexus Prime, you may have a bit of a wait if indeed it starts out as a Verizon exclusive.
The joy and bane of android phones is that they self-obsolete themselves every 6 months. There will ALWAYS be a better phone that is just past the corner. The android phone scene is advancing faster than any other hardware wise.
I went with the Thrill: dual core, dual channel RAM, 3D screen, HDMI output (cable included), excellent build quality, same "4"G, plus its $20 from Walmart online on contract. In many ways its even or outspecs the galaxy s 2, but much softer on the wallet. I just couldn't rationalize paying an extra $100+ just to get more choice in custom ROMs.

I'm sorry but I think the sgs 2 is worth it because of the screen power and community resources

Well, I just read that an AT&T flavored Nexus Prime has hit the FCC. So we might indeed be getting this 4.0 device.

New Nexus Mobile in 2012?

I have been observing Apples new iPhone 5 release date of October and am interested if any of you guys have heard any whispers on a new Nexus Handset on the cards.
I am currently using HOX and am happy to stay with it until a new Nexus Handset comes out.
I personally would love a new HTC Nexus but it seems unlikely.
Thanks for any information in advance you may have.:fingers-crossed:
I'd love to upgrade from my Nexus S. I love this phone but I'd love to swap out the capacitive buttons for on screen ones but I don't feel the need to upgrade to the Nexus Prime.
I might as well wait for the next release. Can't wait!

Heard that also
It is supposed to be around November.
it would seem to be farfetched for HTC to be the manufacturer of the next nexus device..
based from what google has been doing with the nexus lines, it looks like Samsung would be their dedicated manufacturer for the next lineup..
but of course that can change through the course of time..
it would be nice though if HTC would be the manufacturer for the next Nexus device, HTC makes really nice quality built devices (eg. Nexus1 and NOX)
i wonder when will we be seeing the new GNote-2?..
i hope its not gona be a disappointment knowing that the 1st GNote was a huge hit for Samsung.. :fingers-crossed:

Actually critics who bought and used the Galaxy Note 1 said there has been alot of problems and they are skeptical in buying the Galaxy Note 2 since they abandoned the Galaxy Note 1 and jumped over board to release the Galaxy S3. At least that's what I've been seeing lately around here.
what is the next galaxy nexus ??
with the quadcore cpu...
It would be nice to have another Nexus device release this year, though I feel like it won't happen till next year.
I also have Nexus S and I am highly considering getting Galaxy Nexus soon.
If there's a new Nexus device by end of this year, I might just wait and get a discounted priced Galaxy Nexus
personally I don't mind waiting...........
The Galaxy Nexus has been a pleasant experience since day one, I hardly use my iPhone 4S anymore
quad-core processor would only be for bragging rights and I'm past that point in life, lol
In all honesty with modding Im happy with the hardware that the HTC One X offers me at the moment.
My only gripe is the unnecessary S-Off which drives me mad. I wish HTC would listen to the masses and remove it!!
Im keen to see when the new Nexus arrives as I have had them all since the series began and love the "pureness" of Nexus. :fingers-crossed:
really... that should be something
i actually would consider buying it if its priced like the nexus is now. what will it be 350 usd thats ok if it evlolves to qcore... but i mean even chinese chip makers will have qcore in 2013.
i actually have a dual core and its more than enough

If it can offer an 8mp Camera or more with 1.5 to 2 GB of ram, A Quad Processor and a high resolution screen then I would jump in with open arms. I hope that someone other than samsung gets a go as the plastic chassis of the recent Samsung units disappointed me and I found the HTC One X to feel more premium in feel. :good:

According CS monitor, looks like even the screen will be the same. So just an upgraded A9 chip and better rear and front cameras (8 and 1.9 MP)

Who will be jumping off the nexus bandwagon?

I will. Anyone else? In a couple months can't wait!
The overall specifications of the Galaxy S5 are: a 64-bit Exynos or a Snapdragon processor, it will pack 3 GB of RAM, a 16 MP camera, a 4,000 mAh battery, and it will run on Android 4.4 Kitkat.
This source claims that there will be a “Premium” model sporting a metal case, and a flexible OLED and one “normal” version sporting a normal OLED and a plastic chassis.
Samsung would need to do a lot more than that for me even to consider going back to them. Any closed-source exynos based device is off my radar immediately after the experience of my s3. Nah, even if the specs don't agree, nexus is a much better device for me.
Besides, any performance benefits of hardware are immediately lost when dropping touchwiz on a device.

and i heard that the s5 is going to be unibody, which to my understanding means no removable battery. (may be wrong)
Yes technically the nexus 5 also doesnt have a removeable battery, but its so easy to take it apart without any real tools that i consider the battery to be removeable.
Though im not saying im going to stay with nexus. LG looks promising and so does sony. so my next phone may be from one of them if they are able to wow me and they are lax with rooting n such.

I can't do AMOLED screens. They strain my eyes like the crappy screens Apple is starting to use in their new products. Even with glasses, I get a dull headache after about 15 minutes.
well i was with htc for a while.. evo 4g.. evo 3d.. evo 4g LTE.. then i traded my evo lte for the S3.. then got the S4 when it dropped.. got bored with the S4 then traded my S4 for the HTC ONE.. didnt like the HTC ONE much besides the speakers.. so i sold the HTC ONE and got another S4.. Never liked stock android on any of them devices.. then i heard the N5 was coming out figured i would give Nexus a try.. so i orderd my N5 oct 31 from the play store.. got it a few days later.. and i have to say that i LOVE my N5 more then any phone.. wish i would have went with Nexus years ago.. now i love stock android.. so smooth/fast.. and i love flashing rom/kernels so the nexus is perfect for me.. so much development.. I would Never get another phone.. thats why i pray google dont do away with Nexus anytime soon.. i just got here and i love it!!:good: if i didnt like this Nexus so much i would prob get the S5.. cause notes are to big in my eyes and im so done with HTC taking 6 months to release kernel source.. Nexus FTW
Personally, I don't see myself buying another Non-Nexus device ever again (unless they stop making them). I've played with the HTC One, S4, and IP5s quite a bit (friends' devices) and wouldn't consider trading my N5 for any of those. I love vanilla Android and staying off of a cellular contract is nice as well.

My nexus is going to stick with me for a few years.
I'll be laughing becuase you'll be stuck on a contract/tab, and i've already payed out my phone.
I'm the kind of guy who has absolutely ZERO brand loyalty. I don't care who makes it, if it's cool I'll likely buy it. I have a MacBook Pro, Surface Pro, iPad Mini, Dell Venue 8 Pro, Nexus 7, Nexus 5, Moto X, and I've had a couple iPhones. I'm also a Ford truck guy but currently drive a Dodge Challenger. The point I'm trying to make is whatever the next great smartphone is, regardless of brand or manufacturer, I WILL buy it. So that means I am going to have the HTC One + or whatever it will be called, I'll also likely get the GS5 as long as there's a metal one like the rumors state. The Nexus 5 has been great to me, but it's just a phone. I get that it's a Nexus and everyone here are Nexus die hards, but there is nothing about it that screams "these are the only phones I will ever buy from this point forward." That said, I will also likely buy the Nexus 6, so long as it's cool.

64 bit processor is CRAP marketing that apple pushed and as everything apple does, Samsung will as well. The different is hardly measurable.
More than 2 GB on a phone is waste in my opinion, I never get much past 1gb anyway.
4000 mah battery is just CRAP except if the device is as huge as the note, it is not like Samsung invented some new super dense battery.
Not much of an upgrade apart from camera.
MOD EDIT: Profanity replaced...please read rule 2.1

Yeah I'm like this too, it's just that I don't have that kind of money to keep buying every phone that comes out
I have all 3 major ecosystems, and I really don't care which one I use. They all work great for certain things, and not so great for others.
No way I'll ever use Samsung phones again; bloatware, ridiculous software add-ons, flimsy designs, gimmicks, touch wiz and way too expensive. I'll stick with nexus until it isn't around anymore and go with anything BUT Samsung... overrated and overpriced. BTW I owned several Samsung's including the S4 and returned them all...
