I posted this on CM forums but it's gone on deaf ears.
I use PhoneUsage to track the data it provides but mainly because it shows me what apps are consuming the most data. I've been using it on my rooted G2x for a while and more recently I began running CM nightly builds on this phone. In doing so I've noticed a significan't increase in data consumption by the Theme Chooser in CM over the stock OS that was on my phone before.
Data consumption on stock OS. You can see from the data I have Pre-CM it was consuming less than 20% total bandwidth in 1 months period and less than 10% of my phones outbound data usage in 1 month period. For that month I sent 55mb outbound.
[See attached ThemeChooser_PreCM.jpg]
However after installing CM starting with build #126 and now up to #151 for my G2x I've seen a drastic change. In one week my phone has moved 52mb of data outbound where this was about what I did on a typical month before. About 25% of all data was Theme Chooser but the thing I'm concerned about is that Theme Chooser is now responsible for 45% of outbound data being sent from my phone.
[See attached ThemeChooser_PostCM.jpg]
Breaking this down into values my phone pre-CM would typically send 55 mb/month of data outbound which 10% of that was Theme Chooser so 5.5 mb/month. With CM now though Theme Chooser is sending outbound 45% of my total data consumption which is a higher value than ever before (which I correlate to Theme Chooser). So extrapolating out to the same time frame I could possibly transmit 200 mb /month which 45% of that would mean 90 mb/month of outbound data from Theme Chooser.
What I want to know is what data is Theme Chooser sending and why has it drastically increased with the use of CM over my phone's stock OS?
I doubt theme chooser used any data whatsoever so that's probably why it fell on deaf ears. Your measurements are busted.

Busted how? That's not really an answer but a generalization. I've been using PhoneUsage since my G1 and it's provided very reliable data tracking values in terms of applications usage.
I know this thread is a few months old now but... I've noticed a similar thing. I use Traffic Counter and it tells me Theme Chooser is downloading a fair bit of data, coincedently it's always the exact same amount as the Settings process.
Yesterday I used SystemApp Remover to uninstall Theme Chooser. I'll see if that makes a difference.
Trying to see if it's the settings process that's using data and the data counter app getting confused, or if it really is theme chooser using data somehow through the settings process. Seems like way too much of a coincidence that have exactly the same data usage.
I've got a LG P500 on CM7.2.
I apply my theme then freeze theme Chooser cause all it does is apply the theme not run it. Themes provider is what actually runs your theme.
Pin it to Win it.
@I.R.Chevy
That makes sense (to freeze it) although I don't have the pro version of Titanium Backup so I back it up and uninstall.
Why do you freeze it? Have you noticed it using data too?

Antek app manager is a free tool for freezing and other sorts of shinanigans but backing up the apk's and uninstalling them has the same effect and works just as well.
To answer your question I'm a nazi when it comes to the apps on my phone especially apps that need to be running all the time. I remove anything I don't use, and substitute alot of stock system apps with my own so after I choose my theme with theme chooser I freeze it unless I decide I want to choose another theme (and I have never changed themes lol) so what's the sense in having it causing network, partial wake locks, and delicious ram usage?
P.s. After the theme is applied theme Chooser has nothing to do with the way your theme operates. Themes.provider is the application that makes the magic happen.
Pin it to Win it.
What is Theme Chooser doing?
Well it's been 1 week now since I uninstalled theme chooser and on average my data usage is about 4MB a day less!
I don't use much data, that's nearly a 75% reduction for me.
My question is, what is it doing?

Hello guys,
I'm using LauncherPro Plus since a long time now, but since a few days I have some problems with it.
Today I had a lot of FCs in the morning, fixed that (almost) with new memory usage settings.
And very often I get the "Problem while loading widget" error, which is quite annoying. I have to restart LauncherPro or delete the widget and place it again. The new memory usage settings did make it much better, but the problem still exists.
I even had FCs with 102MB free RAM, so it isn't RAM related.
My dalvik heapsize is 26MB, wasn't better with 32MB...
My memory usage settings are:
Memory usage preset:
Medium
Only clicked "Use homescreen caches" on the page
Homescreen cache type: Compressed
Other settings:
Elastic scrolling on, 3D drawer on
My screen configuration:
Can someone help me to fix these things?
Thanks
Fwiw compressed cache caused me bad lag issues the last time I used LPP.
Compressing or decompressing anything will need system resources.
Might be worth a shot.

Since yesterday evening it's stable again, but before I could use normal instead of compressed.
I have to use compressed, otherwise it gets unstable and I get the "problem loading widget" thing again
But even with my settings it's very smooth.

I loved LauncherPro and was with it since day one on my phone, but recently it gave me almost the same problems that you have and i tested few other launchers (wich was a bit of a hasle 'cause most of them are crap). I'm currently with GO Launcher Ex and i can confirm it's the ONLY ONE whos been able to keep up with the outstanding performance of LauncherPro.
So after running pretty much all the roms available for the XT720, I have to say the new MIUI rom beats them all. I came from dexters froyo 1.3 with bug patch. And for some odd reason it was extremely slow and laggy for me. Even with autokiller optimizer id start out with 60 MB free memory and slowly after some use itd come down to 19-20 mb. Anyways this is how I feel about the new MIUI ROM.
MIUI BETA 4:
This has got to be the fastest ROM ever. I had gotten used to using the laggy XT720 and hating it in the process but whoa am I amazed at how fast this one is. You can just fly through applications and menu's without lag. No lag when you open the keyboard, and the most annoying for me was how the keyboard would lag while using haptic feedback which I love. Dont be put off by the theme in the start everything from the boot screen, to the lock screen can be changed using the theme manager. Theres also a bunch of extra functionality. Like for eg flip to stop active ring, if you pick up the phone while its ringing the ringer volumes goes down. Contacts can be divided into groups, favourite messages etc.
The only draw back with this ROM were if you set up swap it seems to drain the battery really quick. like 10 % / 2.5 hours. I use milestone overclock at 56 vsel 1 Ghz and its pretty stable. I love this ROM and whats been put into it. Waiting for the camera app, HDMI out and other little tweaks here and there to be complete. Thanks Khal!
well I run bluesteel Tom. I have modified it some startup 65+memory avg running memory is between 75 to 90 I only know overclock to 800.
Very fast system no lag at all.

I would like to see your list of removed system apps dude..... Bluesteel was like all the other dxter based froyo for me.. works great with memory management for a few days, then slowly memory reduces down to the 19 to 21mb range & performance goes in the crapper.
Can someone explain in detail how I can install Minimod? I know how to install OR but not Minimod.
This info on minimod can be found in xt720 development (minimod)

F*ck MIUI! I really hate this ROM. Every time I see my phone with MIUI it makes me wanna trow it. It looks UGLY by every mean!
Despide MIUI is stable and fast, I think that if you clean BlueSteal v4 it's better. I have better quadrant benchmark resoults too. 1497 with MIUI and 1601 (personal record) with BlueSteal. I start with around 70 free ram on BS and after all widget start (a few, not much) and I use it a little bit it goes down to 45-50, but it's enough. ROM is very stable and responsive. With fj kernal I stay on 60-65 free all the time.

I am interested to see this too. 3rdstring has a list going, but always nice to see another pov. I have same doggish problems too. To the point I am considering 2.1 for awile. Pulling low 1200's in quadrant, but don't take too much stock in that if everything is lagging.

Lol, to each his own I guess. Im pretty sure you are put off by the theme. Blue steels theme was pretty ****ty too. And I dont like updating themes through open recovery its just a pain in the ass. I always just adb push the ubuntu font onto my rom and then change the themes. With MIUI its much easier. Have you ever used a phone with stock MIUI it is on of the most responsive devices ever. I have always had problems with dexters based ROM's. If you have any tricks up your sleeve please share.

If memory got dumped just:
Running services --> Stop!
If doesn't help, Manage Applications --> Force stop!
I don't use Advance task killer, it just dones't work...
Also keep it low on widgets!
Programs running all the time : WidgetLocker, BobD3 Clock, SystemInfo Widget, SwitchPro Widget, SetCPU, Fancy Widget, BattStatt, Launcher Pro Plus twitter and ALYac antivirus real-time scan...
The way I install my ROMs is:
1. Always Flash to stock 2.1 true RSD --> Factory reset!
2. Install Dexter Froyo -> wipe dalvik-cache/Wipe Data/ Facrory reset/ wipe Cache
3. Delete SD card craps from Dexter Froyo --> Factory reset (just in any case)
4. Install Khal's BlueStealEpicv4 -->wipe dalvik-cache/Wipe Data/ Facrory reset/ wipe cache
5. Factory reset (just in any case)
6. Delete - Talk, LatinIMEtutorial, Facebook,Tweetdeck,... etc.
P.S. I always reformat and repartition my SD card Fat32/ext3/swap(for any case )
It my seem too much, but it works for me.

Also remember to flash Dexter 1.3 first and wipe dalvik-cache / cache partition / factory reset after restoring.

Hi eSu.Matix,
i'm currently running the steelepicblue as well, it's way nicer than MIUI..I cleaned almost all the system apps and my available RAM is now always between 50 and 70 MB, however, i've never been able to reach that Quadrant score...
What tweaks did you apply? Thank you very much in advance!
Hi,
I love the Miui Rom for :
1. Lot of setting option posibility in Setting page.
2. Like the Toggle bar IN STATUS BAR (FULL SIZE <->) you can scroll left and right. (must have), Its easy to read and have 90% toggle icon we need.
3. Like how easy is to modify or change and customizing theme.
what i dont like is:
The rom is not fully compatible with our XT720
This rom contain some bug for XT720.
Camera have some bug and low resolution env 5meg, HDMI not working at all, VPN dosen't work on my XT720 ON VIDEOTRON NETWORK.
But even that, i have difficulty to leave away. i realy love and need the toggle bar INSIDE the notification bar.
It's is possible to have TOGGLE BAR IN STATUS BAR in other rom
like MIUI, full size <-> , scrolling, good look, easy to toggle etc.
but i realy dont like the LOOK OF toggleBar that use some rom like V4 rom GalaxyXT version

yeah i noticed all this crap under running services yesterday when I looked the first time. I had two 'calendar' programs running to (10mb and 6mb each, WTF?)
I thought this phone was lightening fast, I can only imagine it would be 110% better w/o all this stuff running..
I've noticed a HUGE increase in battery life after freezing a bunch of these. I want to keep going and see what else i can freeze without any issues, but I'm afraid to go too far and wind up messing up my phone...

On one hand, you're absolutely right. For those living so far from civilization, sometimes a wifi network is your only option. For me, I like to avoid unpopulated areas for a variety of reasons and am just trying to make phone calls without using their cell network (in a fashion that doesn't require any additional cost for me or additional download on the other end).
I've been mainly killing apps that show up in the running services list.

What are you guys using to freeze these apps? Titanium backup? tnx
One app I would delete is the preinstalled notepad app, because it always seems to be running in the background. I deleted it and installed Color Note.
And yes, I use Titanium Backup, free version, and simply uninstall apps I don't want.

Cool, ill disable that too. Yeah, I use Titanium backup to freeze my apps
SPEED UP PHONE AND BOOST PERFORMANCE. On the new ics leak.
You must be rooted to do some of these tweeks..
1. Use titanium backup or the app of your choice to freeze or uninstall unwanted or misbehaving apps. You can find a list of apps that come preinstalled (bloatware) that is known to be safe to freeze or uninstall by searching the dev section.
2. Uninstall any and all task killers or task managers. After research I find they do more harm and slow down performance and kill battery life than they help. By freezing or uninstalling misbehaving apps in step one you don't have to worry about apps running in the background eating up your data. And besides ics has a really nice data manager built in.
3. Install apex launcher from the market. I can't explain why but using this launcher with ics instead of the stock tw launcher sped my phone up considerably and totally eliminated that little bit of lag that was in it when exiting apps and scrolling screens. Not to mention apex has a lot of freeking really cool features you can't do with the stock tw launcher. Like add another shortcut icon on the dock bar and the ability to scroll 5 dock bars full of shortcuts you can add. And the home screen allows for another whole row of icons and much much more. But best of it made my phone ALOT FREAKIN FASTER....
BATTERY DRAIN ISSUES.
I found going from gingerbread to ics was a bigger strain on my battery a way bigger strain. So far this trick has helped a lot but I'm still looking for other ways to go with this to improve it even more. So if you have any tricks up your sleeve feel free to post please. So here is what I've found so far...
I used rom manager from the market but I'm sure there are other free apps that can do this again far as I know you need to be rooted to do this...
1. Wipe battery stats. After installing any new rom or even updating an existing you should always wipe battery stats. This helped my phone tremendousley.
2. Find a app that monitors your battery stats. I use badass battery monitory. I don't like the name but it will tell you which apps are draining your battery and allow you to make necasarry changes. There is a free version on the market but I'm using the paid one.
I posted this info I've learned to maybe help someone else. It helped my phone a bunch but each phone is different and what works for one may not for another so I make no guarantees. For info on rooting see the link at the beginning of this thread it worked for me. Anyone that has learned other tweaks please post. And if this is in the wrong section I'm sorry. I just started using the app and not my pc to access xda and I'm trying to figure the app out still which is laid out weird and the search option just plain sux...

Are you using any battery saving apps?
and also ICS task manager does not do anything when you swipe the apps of, I am using 360 Launcher it's as smooth as ever, it has build in cleaner that brings the memory usage to 29-31% that is with major apps I use excluded from clean. On the other hand not using anything will have your ROM running at about 380M at boot and 450M+ then on after you use something, even after freezing things.
P.S. I agree not using another task killers, but the one in 360 it's just like the build in one in the ROM, when you press clean memory, just has a widget.
! One more suggestion, using System Turner or Rom Toolbox, remove apps from start up, that you don;t need at boot.
When I said task killers of course i meant those you download from the market not the stock one on the phone. Sorry of I confused anyone but I did not remove the stock one but the two I had downloaded and installed from the market. I have rom manager and I'll try that tip thanks and sorry for the confusion

So i was wondering for the HTC Sensation 4g, what is the best RAM/Memory free you should have normally?
When i first had the Sense 3.0 version of the ARHD ROM i would have 150M - 200M and i would lose text messages? I bought "Ghostly SMS" to prevent this and use it still just incase i still lose text messages, which i still do. (3 Text Messages lost over 1 month, usually when they a bunch come in at the same time)
Anyways, with MIUI i had 300M - 400M. And now with ARHD Sense 3.6, i get 200M - 240M with only GOSMS Pro running. With another app running, it usually hits 150M.
So is there like an optimum memory amount you should have? I want to switch to Sense 4.0 (OrDroid) but i feel like it would kill my RAM a lot?
You want atleast 65 MB free. This is enough to launch an application or two without delay. At that point, Android will close an app or two to keep the free ram around there. Trust me, more used ram isn't a bad thing and doesn't mess with battery life or anything. Sense 4.0 will run just fine.
Thanks for that, I usually have more than 65MB so thats goood. I just didnt want Android killing the Messaging App on Sense 4.0 if it did happen.
Switching to OrDroid now!

Team PkMn has an amazing Sense 4.0 rom out too! I was using OrDroid but the tweaks in Charmander 4.1 are SO worth the swap.
I just switched to to Team PkMn's Sense 4.0 ROM and the tweaks are worth the swap. The only problem is half the tweaks arent registering for me. Ive been trying to change the "H" icon to "4G" but it doesnt change. The Transparency for the status bar doesnt either. I think the Status Bar tweaks just dont work for me.
I dont know if its because i installed something to show battery % inside the battery bar, but i doubt that.
