Hello.
I spoke with Ekoore that sell tablet PCs with Ubuntu. They did good work to make Unity interface more comfortable for working on tablets, but their tablets based on Intel Atom. So, they can give us their version of Ubuntu for porting it to ARM.
Ekoore said:
Dear Sir,
you can wait for next week, when we upgrade it to the new version of ubuntu. After this, we can talk about this porting. you have experience in this field?
Best Regards!

I know we have successfully been able to install debian on our phones, has anyone tried to install hasty (basically a build of Ubuntu 8.04 'Hardy Heron')? Although ubuntu is releasing an ARM version for ARMv7 processors in April 2009, our G1's would be left out because it is ARMv6.
However, there's a version of hasty compatible with our ARM 11 Family (ARMv6) (http://www.arm.com/products/CPUs/families/ARM11Family.html) processor, found here:
http://mojo.handhelds.org/hasty-armv6el-vfp
I wouldn't even know where to begin with installing this, so if someone could enlighten us on how to do so, it would be greatly appreciated.
why?
ubuntu is just debian with some user friendly tweaks, but none of those would apply to a cellphone. so it would basically be exactly the same as debian.

We've gone as far as installing debian, why not ubuntu? Personally I would like to see if any of those tweaks would work on my G1. I understand there are similarities, and that ubuntu is based off of debian, but it wouldn't hurt to install it as opposed to debian would it?

It's not being planned for ARMv6 (which the G1 has), only ARMv7

You can check the Wiki or the main thread, and set you system up for compiling the source. Unfortunately, Not a lot works yet as far as functionality Device wide.
It's a grand time to learn.
MD
Is Ubuntu Touch also for tablets? I read phones and phablets. I tried to port Firefox OS for the HTC HD2, but failed due to lack of knowledge, incomplete guidance and the phone officially being an WM device.
Since the A51x (and A70x) both are Android devices from it's origin, it should be "easier".
From reading the beginning of the guide I can tell you I can't. I really need a more detailed step-to-step guide to work on something.
I hope there are people out there who are able to port it to the A51x and A70x series.
Edit:
Awesome! A700 owners can try the Ubuntu Touch pre-alpha on their tablets
As far as i can see, the porting guide is for Devices supported by Cyanogenmod, since Ubuntu touch is apparantly based on that. I guess there is some way to port it to the A51x Devices anyway, but i think there would be some major (and probably undocumented) work necessary
Hello. I want to ask is it possible to run ubuntu on SGTab2? I mean pure desktop ubuntu, not mobile one, nor as virtual machine. All instructions I found deals with Nexus 7. The best will be installing Ubuntu as dualboot to Android(I'm using NEXT kernel, it supports dualboot). Does anybody know how to install it? Or maybe somebody even tried it?
Thank you for answer

HI guys! I need help with compiling Bochs for android, Bochs is a virtual machine that emulates diffrent Operating systems on android such as windows 98,XP and many others!
Korv2003 compiled bochs 2.5.1 for android back in 2008 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389700
but no one has compiled it since then and we are not getting any new versions out. Me and alot more would be extremely glad if someone that knows how to compile these files could compile the new Bochs versions 2.6.1 and beyond, for android!
The newer versions are both faster and have more features! So please anyone that knows how to do this help out !

Bump
it seems that no one is interested in this project. i'd love to see any new version because the 2.5.1 out there is really out of date and slow as hell. i've read that newer versions are speed up to 50%. i can't understand why no1 tries to port version 2.6.6 to android.

I can take a crack at it. I'm not a pro at porting apps. I just recently learned how so don't hold your breath. I will give it the ol' college try though

Did you manage to do it?
Hopefully someone will post the latest version..
It's already been done. Check here, you can compile it yourself. There's a build file for each operating system and instructions for android in the Android folder. Not my work, just a lucky find. https://github.com/lubomyr/bochs?files=1
tried this version (russian), but you can try use google translate.
in russian 4pda. ru there is detailed manual for 2.6.8 .
just search BOCHS для Android, Эмулятор Pentium PC для Андроид
