Any way to remove the audio during boot-up? I'm running a ROM that has a sound effect while the splash screen is on during boot-up. After the LG screen. Is there any way to delete it? Thanks in advance!
Using a root explorer go into system/media/audio/poweron and delete poweron.ogg file..save a copy of file if you want to put it back..

I don't have any posts yet, so there is no "thanks" button. So.......
Thanks.
power on and power off sound
Both poweron.ogg and poweroff*.ogg have volume-control sliders. If you call up these files in Linda then long-press on the filenames the sliders will appear. You can turn down the volume, or you can remove the files entirely as per the suggestion above.

I've tried searching with no luck (maybe I just suck at it). Is there a way to disable or change the "plinking" sound of the volume rocker? It's driving me mad.
I want that too! My device has volume locker up very sensitive, small presure activates it,yet the button seems to work properly.don't have patience to wait for warranty and thank god is the volume up and not down.

This is the one thing that bothers me with my Inspire. When pulling out of it's case I constantly hear the plink sound. I've installed Volume Lock from the market, but that doesn't take care of the sound.
Unfortunately I think we are stuck with this one. I had this minor quibble with my old Desire too. I can confirm there is no option that I know of to disable it.
I guess the location of the volume rocker sound is not device specific, so has anyone found where it is? I want to replace the sound with something else, but I can not find the file location. It's not in /system apparently, or I am looking in the wrong places.
Hi guys
It's 7 mp3 files in /system/media/audio/ui
Download THESE and put them in your ui folder...works for me
It's 7 mp3 files with silence, you can also try deleting them, but I'm not sure what happens
Cheers
That doesn't seem to work for me. I put the files in /system/media/audio/ui via "adb pull" and verify they are there, but that doesn't change anything. Rebooting the phone doesn't help either.
What firmware are you on? I'm using Android 2.3.4 (Cyanogen 7).
I think you mean ADB push, right?? If you used pull, you'd be copying those files from your phone and overwriting those on your PC...
the syntax goes:
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb push volume-1.mp3 system/media/audio/ui/volume-1.mp3
adb push volume-2.mp3 system/media/audio/ui/volume-2.mp3
...etc...
But it si possible that CM7 has these sounds elsewhere, so try searching for .wav/.mp3/.ogg file in the ROM...
It is also possible these are packed in some .apk file as a resource...in that case you need to find what .apk file it is, decompile it, replace those sounds, recompile it and push back....
it's crappy, annoying and unwanted. how do i mute it (without putting the phone on vibrate)?
Are you rooted? If so then you'll have to download "root explorer" app (if you don't have it) and then scroll down to SYSTEM, then SCROLL to MEDIA and delete the camera.ogg file (I believe that's the name of it) and the recorder.ogg file (I believe that's the name of it). If I helped please feel free to hit the thanks button.

Do not delete those files right away, try renaming them to something else first. If the camera app still works, then it is safe to delete.
But for me when I renamed the files (in my Nexus S they're in /system/media/audio/ui/ and the file names are camera_click.ogg and VideoRecord.ogg) the camera app cannot start anymore. The error message was weird though -- it says "Cannot connect to camera."
Then I renamed the files back and the camera app works again.
nope. not rooted. just plain ol' stock 2.3.2

You just need a blank sound file to replace it.

Yeah, I think that's the way to go.
If you make your phone silent, I believe the camera makes no shutter sound.

I always delete both files after I download a new rom and the camera works flawlessly. Trust me it works and it's extremely easy.

Why dont you just to to "Vignette"
you could hold the volume down key for 5 seconds before you take a snap
Can someone tell me which numbers and where exactly to edit in hidden menu to increase the earpiece for a 30% aproximately? It's getting so annoying that the volume is so low on maximum. When i'm on the street i barely hear the other person talking.

Please show it quickly because I have that issue too. I think so Music is much quieter when listening with headphones.
Go to hidden menu. (In dialer type 3845#*920#) device test/sound test/ Audio CAL tool/set volume and make sure everything looks like this than press ok.

Is there any other way to get into hidden menu? I type these numbers in dialer, but nothing happens. I also tried 3845#*760* but it didn't work.

I discovered shortly after getting the S5 on the 11th that I couldn't disable the shutter sound. Come to find out, that option is available on AT&T S5 phones. Any ideas why they can and we can't, least till some ROMs pop up?
Try this - it worked for my s3:
Check the file system\csc\feature.xml and edit this line to true
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
You may have to change permissions on the file too.

Thanks for the help! Looks like I have a reason to root it now so I have access to that. :highfive:
I'll report back, thanks!
If you just turn the system volume all the way down the camera shutter sound is gone.

Took longer than I thought, stupid ES Explorer apparently won't let you R/W in the system even with root explorer. Did just like you said, only difference was the shutter sound option on S5 which was false, so I made it true.
Quick google and found this ES Explorer does let you R/W so figured I'd share as well.

....and the screenshot for proof. Thanks again!
This worked for me. I did have to reboot for the shutter sound option to become visible in the menu.

agreed...just put your phone in vibrate or silent mode and there is no sound to begin with
I prefer the modifying the features files to have the option to turn the shutter sound on or off, just like the AT&T phones comes STOCK
Got the silence files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66258646&postcount=13
You DO NEED ROOT but its simple.
There are 6 files that need to change in system/media/audio/ui
af_failure.ogg
af_success.ogg
cam_snap_0.ogg
camera_click.ogg
camstart.ogg
camstop.ogg
With a root file manager (root explorer, etc) rename those 6 files to .old and replace with the files in the zip provided. Then just FIX PERMISSIONS and reboot.
Very nice find.
For those without root, i'll add this: I was playing with a camera app last night that was recommended somewhere, cymera maybe? And in it, it had an option to go silent. I turned all my volumes up outside the app, went in, took a picture, zero sound. So that might be an option for others.

Thx, works good.
I have the T-Mobile variant and if my phone is on silent, there is no shutter sound.
I believe this is a way to silence the shutter sound without having to add the step of muting your phone.

Hmm so I'm trying to figure it out but no luck yet. I have the sounds disabled in camera except one. When you long press the take pic button. It does the multiple shots til you let go, the click sound is there. Any idea which sound file that is?
