I recieved my Z3 10 days ago.
It's superfast and the batterylife is awesome.
But 2 days ago, i noticed a damage in my Screen.
It's not big, but you can feel and see it..
I never dropped the phone, i even didn't use it often, because actually it's my secondary phone.
I never put it in my pocket with keys or money or anything.
So this morning i noticed a crack in the screen.
It's not big, too. But you can see it..
It looks like the screen is to big and instable and cracked.
This happened over night without any external influence.
Anybody got this too?
maybe it was the neighbors cat? never heard of a phone that screen mysteriously cracks itself. any pics?
.
Actually, the screen of the Z2 cracked spontaneously over the night some people. (From one corner to another.) Sony is not using Gorilla Glass but the Dragontrail, idk how good it is.

Another one of those my screen mysteriously cracked for no reason thread.... I'm not sure what to make of these on XDA?
The amount of complaints are growing so quickly, all the chances of my buying a Z3 are fading.
I think it's time for a recall (that they will never do).

I feel the same way.. I went ahead and ordered an iPhone 6 plus to hold me over until I make up my mind and Sony decide to release price and availability on T-Mobile.
So here are some pictures.
It's a very small crack, it doesn't disturbs me but i think it isn't waterproof anymore...

I have an idea what can cause the crack.
When i hear Music with the speakers and full volume, the display vibrates a bit.
Can this be the reason?

Actually, it happens when the glass is under pressure / stress.
Gave my mum my Galaxy Nexus a half year ago. A week ago she put it in a stacker in the car with much space, but rubber on the ground. We drove an hour on the Autobahn, not even fast, suspension doesn't even move much because it's so flat.. still it broke into 100 pieces, I've never seen a cracked screen like that. It didn't even move. But to be fair, it fell to the ground very often. Like 20 times, without any damage. I guess it was a bit under stress / pressure and cracked at the slightest touch...
If the glass from the z3 is under stress because it's a faulty unit, it may even crack because of a fast changing temperature. Out of your pocket --> cold table? Could happen imo. That should be covered by the warranty imo. But that depends on the country where you live in.. In germany for example we have a relatively strong consumer protection. If you have absolutely no scratches on the phone, it should be obvious that this is not your fault.

I've had enough phones to know, they don't break from forces of nature or on their own. Hot to Cold, Cold to hot, faulty or not, doesn't happen.

You had some phones and they didn't break? Wow.
I had some cars that didn't break in years of usage. So cars can't break from forces of nature or on their own.
When there is constant pressure on the glass from the frame itself, it will break much faster or with less force.
But keep ignoring the facts and please, please never read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_glass_breakage
OP should read this, Sony repaired several Xperia Z1 phones for free:
http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/520...cked-glass-sony-might-repair-it-for-free.html
I've put together a Google forms survey to collect some objective breakage data:
Sony Xperia Z3 / Z3 Compact - Glass Survey
Please take some time to complete the survey whether you've experienced a breakage or not, it's important to have a complete set of data. You will be able to view the survey results after submitting the form.

So i have to send my device to Sonys repair center.
There is nothing more on it.
It's just like a new Z3 wich was taken out of the box 5 minutes ago.

There is no pressure from the frame, the glass fits inside it and rests on a lip. Hence why people have "gap issues". The actual frame puts no pressure on the glass under normal use as far as I can see. Unless of course the frame warps slightly, then I could see pressure building up at corners.

That's what I thought, too. And I had the same ideas like that famous "neighbor's cat", didn't take it for serious.
Till this morning, when I found a nice crack in the screen after charging the Z3 over night, listening to music prior to sleeping.
Crack starts at the right side if the upper speaker, extends down to the lower left edge of the phone. You can see and feel it, touchscreen still working, but with problems.
No drops, no weight placed on the Z3, no famous cats, not even mice.
Reason ? Unknown.
A bold guess: Vibrations. Z3 was resting with it's lower edge against a metal bar of the little table next to my bed, I had music playing quite loud. As the upper speaker causes the phone to vibrate noticeably, the constant vibrations plus the metal bar preventing the Z3 from moving might have caused the issue. And it's the upper speaker where the crack starts.
Oh, oh, Sony...
UPDATE
Just had a call with Vodafone Germany - they told me it's a KNOWN problem many users experienced. They also revealed it's a manufacturing fault, and there's an agreement with Sony regarding repair or exchange of affected devices.
Passi1909: Du bist also nicht allein.
Oh, oh, Sony...
UPDATE 2
Just had a chat with Sonymobile. Unfriendly as ever. OF COURSE they don't know anything about the problem. OF COURSE there are no manufacturing defects. OF COURSE they don't know anything about agreements with Vodafone.
So it's the typical Sonymobile Germany habit. (They also completely ignored thousands of bent Z2 Tablets a few months ago.)
Presently, I am speaking with Vodafone Germany again to find a proper solution. But I guess I'll say goodbye to the Z3, don't want to risk another failure.
Aha, interesting. NOW Vodafone Germany (different agent) claims there are NO agreements with Sony.
Strange world.
Trying the Sony repair service, now.
I can foresee a nice class lawsuit headed their way. Sony might go bankrupt in a couple of years the way they have lost the walkman wars (audio wars), and forget about Video wars too - Samsung and LG are really getting in there, and mobile wars - gone are the days where the P800, P900, P1000 (??) were the best phones ever to the fact that Apple now has a clear dominance there and Samsung has literally taken Sony out when it comes to Android.
I can imagine that it might be time to teach Sony a lesson of cheating people with 6 monthly devices that are "downgrades" in terms of "life".
Chefproll, start recording your calls and get things documented.
I wanted to finally buy a sony Smartphone on christmas, in this case the z3, but after I've heard a lot worse problems from this, I can probably forget it. pity, because i thought that the sony xperia z3 is the most prettiest and best Smartphone on the market

It's a nice, cute device which is real fun to play with.
But I just cannot live with the subzero camera - and with a crack in the display. Device now is unusable, touchscreen now behaves totally erratic.
I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S5. I NEVER EVER wished to buy another Samsung device. But after my experience with the Z3's camera, the cracked screen (don't listen to music) and the attitude of the Sonymobile staff - goodbye, Sony.

Hello,sorry for my English.
I have a question about z3 bending.
Z3 was made from glass and metal so it can bend easily in my opinion?
I hope its not bad like an 6+. What's your opinion? I Do not wear tight pants, but as a rule Sweatpants(sport pants (?))
Please, search in Google before question such things, however, this are some videos that I found in youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guF8uBKfyQk - Compact
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxY_VzPiM_8 - The title sayid Z3 but it's actually the Z2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGgjBxJNMG4 - Compact
The Z1 has several reports of bending, but seems that is not the case here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=xperia+z1+bend&tbm=isch
The Z, Z1 suffer Self-cracking too:
https://www.google.com/search?q=self+crack+screen&tbm=isch
lol this bending thing is too funny, just cause the Iphone bend every phone bend now?
Oh, come on!!, People gets crazy about bending phones. All phones are affect to bending, you can bend any phone, don't know why so such a collective histery. Phones are not made to wear on the back pocket and sitdown all day. People are the only guilty about that, just need to have more caution.
It's not wrong to be curious or worried about a device bending. I mean you paid top money for that device, of course you worry if it might easily bend and break.

Videos 1,2&4 here are all about the z3 compact. While the third one is about the z2.
I had a Z3 that bent. Never put it in my back pocket but was wearing some tighter than usual jeans and had it in my front pocket. The next day I noticed a bend in the aluminum just behind the volume rocker. I've mentioned this in other posts. Sold it and bought a new one and so far no bending. Still love the phone.

Damn, bought a brand new Ferrari and bumped into my neighbours car. Now it's broken! Obviously, paid big money for it, how come it's not made for such small everyday impacts?!

Okay...
My phone got bent today in my front pocket for no reason!
Op, did you claim your warranty and fix it or you had to pay fully for it?
And how much did it cost to fix it?
My phone got bent in my pocket aswell, which made the metal frame pop near the dock connection
Hi. I have a Sony Z3. And the backlight had gone. I have had experience and removed the backlight resistor from the main board and just bridged the two connections. This solved the issue. I have also done it with the z,z1 and z2.
But I was wondaring as I dont know much about circuit boards. Will just bridging the connection cause any damage? Will it last long?
The phone is already out of warrenty.
I have soldered a Sony z and it has lasted a very long time. But can I expect the z3 to be the same?
Thanks for any help and wisdom!!
Hi
Can you take picture i have 6603 and same problem please help me
You have a two year manufacturer's warranty with Sony, and you don't need a proof of purchase.
Return it - unless you've voided it yourself.
dear
The warranty is void
I replaced lcd and frame when i did the brightness no work more
I need resistor location
Hi I've don't it a few times and it always worked. I don't have one to take a picture. But it's near the bottom left of the board . The component is black and has a little V in white on it. If the backlight is gone this component tends to have a burnt hole right in the middle.
I always need a microscope but if you have mega good eye sight you should find it. Hope this helps!
Solution in the attachment. Other fuse with letter "V" in lower left corner protects vibrator.
Hey You

Do you happen to know how to fix a Xperia Z3 Compact with a similar issue?
I replaced the screen on my Xperia Z3 Compact and now when I turn it on nothing shows up no image and no backlight. But I can hear that the phone is working. Touchscreen makes clicking noise, and vibrator motor makes noise when clicking home button.
How can I make a jumper?
I have this prob too after replacing screen. First, the phone would work only if the the two final screws holding the assembly weren't screwed in. Now it doesn't work at all.
sent here from a member from another thread~
Sorry - but I was sent to this thread from a member in a reply to a thread I posted last week - they said I might have a better chance at finding answers here.
Here's my question (copy/pasted):
Hello, please forgive me if this is not the appropriate place or generally not the correct type of question to ask, I am new here & was directed to this site from my former trainer as a means of educating myself on the problems I am facing..
Let me first say that I am new to micro soldering, and have only been a certified micro solderer for a few weeks now.
I work for a privately owned company of mobile technicians and I am the sole solderer on staff. My company paid for my training and I would say I have a fairly decent grasp on general soldering repairs.
That being said, I am facing some big issues with backlight repairs. I have been successful in replacing components that have been obviously damaged or missing, but when all responsible components are seemingly in place & in working order - as far as I can see under the microscope - I cannot figure out how to diagnose which of these components has failed to communicate with it's sisters.
I have read a great deal online about jumping components, but I am really very much as a loss as to how I am supposed to be able to figure out which one(s) of these to jump or how to tell if they are in need of replacement - when no physical damage is present.
Any and all help in this area is welcome - I would really love it if I could get a better handle on these types of repairs.
If this topic already exists somewhere, or there is another place I should be looking - point me in that direction & I will follow.
Thanks~

Would you happen to know the location of the xperia Z1S backlight fuse also?
Hi there,
I have done lots of cellphone repairs and I know my things about smd soldering.
To answer your question : Will just bridging the connection cause any damage?
The answer is yes and no. By bridging the resistor you won't damage the Phone but the only thing you are doing is taking a safety measure out of the circuit. Next time there is a problem in that bridged circuit there will be no fuse more to blow out and the damage will be done to an other component in that circuit, most likely the power management IC, and those are way harder and have a much more higher fail rate in replacement.
So if you can find a replacement resistor on Ebay i suggest you buy it and replace the broken one. When replacements are not sold, we allways try to take them of another damaged motherboard we have laying around.
If those 2 options are not possible, bridging will be the only solution.
Grtz...

took my phone 6 months ago. When the summer comes, my phone began to overheat. i live in a very hot place. after that, on the screen, yellow spots began to appear . I called the Sony turkey. They told me to send to the service. i send to service, service says that ; this error is user side error .they say the phone is bend , they said screen change is required. The phone does not have any bend. they lied, they all know, snapdragon is become very hot in a hot country. they knew it was a chronic error in xperia z3,z3+, z5. After that, sony turkey says it was my fault.
Shame sony, shame sony turkey. Shame of all.
i used xperia z, xperia z2, they dont give any error. i trust in sony but now, i hate them.
Please look at photos. I dont bend my phone or I dont sit down on it. And I have this spots.

Based on your provided screenshot, I agree with you that its not bent and no signs of deformation either.
Just the yellow spots on edges somehow they looked that the screen is pressed hard against something. Normally screen damage to overheat is just on a single spot.
But also please take a look on this one as this might help your claim. Endpipe of the heatsinks installed on Z5 likely corresponds to the positions of the yellow spots:
If im right, heat pipe design is to dissipate heat away from the source to its ends. So heat is concentrated there
hi,
i have the same issue, but at the left side.

Same thing is happening to my father's Z2...
So, this is not just for z3+ or z5...
Same thing happened to me at top left edge, and few days ago it grew a bit larger along the edge, most likely due to overheating.
Friends of the forum .... unfortunately Sony phones are known to get too hot as a fryer, because of the heat produced by the processor it has created an orange spot on the screen of my phone, I have read in other forums that several have Sony phones, xiaomi, LG, etc. the same thing has happened to them. I want to see if there is any way to make that stain disappear, in the XDA forum a boy created an application to level the temperature and thus manage to make the stains on the phone screens disappear, but that publication was from 2014 and the download link it has expired .. I would really appreciate if you can help me ... thanks friends of XDA
