Will I still get an HTC Update??? - HTC 7 Pro

I flashed my 7 Pro to the Mango update found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254384
Everything is working great but I'm not sure if when/if HTC release an update to enable tethering if I will recieve the update since I did not wait for the official update through Zune.
My phone was bought sim-free if that makes a difference?

yes, thats the full official mango rom from HTC with all the latest firmware already baked in, most ppl didnt use this because it formats your phone so does nto preserve their setting and aps builtup over time.
You wont get any update on Zune untill a new update is availale after Mango or post firmware updates. You basicly have what everyone wants so go forth and be happy

[Q] Offical updates after installing Mango RTM

Hi
I just installed Mango 7712 on my Omnia 7 following this tutorial. If I upgrade it to 7720 using the described method will I be able to later install offical updates?
you have to revert to NoDo from your Backup to get the official Mango
So when Mango is officially out I just revert NoDo from backup, install latest version of Zune and I'll receive Mango updates?
What would happen if I would have a backup (I have it, but just want to know if there is any other way to revert)?
Is there any more or less offical release date?
if you lost your bock up you would need to go back to AT&T (or whichever carrier) to flash back to an official ROM to get the official updates I believe
u can flash a new rom alone, i debranded my mozart that way from german t-mobile
More then likely you will be able to find a stock rom for your phone in this forum. I needed one and found it here for my phone. When you find it, you can flash it yourself.

7720 RTM to 7720 Official , possible??

I have heard users say they can do it with the recently released HTC roms
So when mango offocial comes can we update in zune in this way??
Unlikely as it will possibly see it as the same version and say our devices are up to date.
Why do you want to do it via Zune?

If you install 7720 RTM (on Omnia 7) you can't receive updates via Zune just because you already have the latest version? And when updates > 7720 will come you can receive them via Zune?
I had 7720 RTM installed but removed it because I thought I couldn't receive any offical update (including those after 7720)...
The HTC Mango ROMs are already official from HTC since these ROMs are unbranded, they don't have to go through carrier testing.
The only way to get to the official ROM via Zune is to go back to NoDo, since builds 7661 and 7712 won't be getting direct updates as these are only beta ROMs. If you have 7720 leaked RTM, Zune will report that you have the latest version installed, which is 7.10 (7720), because you have the RTM without OEM/carrier enhancements, when you want is the final release via Zune, so you will have to go back to NoDo.
I would like to point out that we were in a similar situation before with 7390. People were able to get it before the official update. I had 7390 way before the official ATT got pushed out. At the same time many argued that installing the inofficial will make it impossible to get the official update.
Zune however recognized that there was a difference between the one installed and the one pushed out from the carrier. The one noticable difference was firmware and radio that was different. Zune updated my phone from 7390 to 7390 official.
I still hope this is the case with Mango as well.

So those running the generic rtm now, When official is pushed out to zune
If zune show 2 updates
For example
Mango - 7720.68
Htc update - radio and hardware drivers
If u see this then the rtm can be updated ...
If u only see the htc update, then only the radio firmware is updated to 5.69

first, remember, this is pure speculation and maybe just wishful thinking. It worked with 7390. When the official 7390 was pushed out I saw only one update. It did not have a separate update for firmware or radio. It updated 7390 with 7390.

Yes u should see the OS update . And if there is any firmware update, it will show up as well. In yr case maybe there was no new firmware being pushed out at the time of yr update. Or u already updated earlier yr firmware earlier and cannot remember it . By right, firmware updates will show as separate. It always did from 7004 to nodo, i had seen it always as separate .
According to my experience, it seems zune has a funny method of updating.
In nodo i flashed my radio using one of those ruu wrapper which does not factory reset the phone. My last official htc radio through zune was 5.65 radio , used the ruu wrapper to flash the radio only to 5.66 from one of the ansar roms from another country . What rue wrapper does is just flash the radio and nothing else. 5.65 -5.66 radio. 5.66 radio is not available in my country region, But works with my telco.
The something strange happened, when i cooneected to zune to update to mango rtm ,zune flashed my radio back to 5.65 which was my old radio. so this is not supposed happen since my radio was 5.66 which is an increment though it was not officially done in zune.so zune did not recognize my newer radio.
So i beleive zune keeps track of what it officially flashed earlier, The server then tells it to flash to new rom , then it just follows even though u may be already on a leaked updated rom of the same kind..remember all these leaked roms or betas dont use the manufacturer official servers but either MSFT ( developer resource) or custom hacker tools like romupdateutility.exe.
from these unofficial methods even though it can read and display what os u are running on, it does not make decisions based in what it reads, it just " listens" to the server pushing out the update.
Just my 2 cents worth.
So according to this - either way - those already on 7720, should see the update in Zune and be able to update...
we just have to wait and see what happens. I bet ATT will need another 2 months to get this back to MS

7720.68 = Official. This is the RTM that they are pushing out to M$ employees. If your device manufacturer has any new updates, they will be shown after you upgrade to the 7720. For instance, when I upgraded (I have a Focus), I immediately had a "Samsung Update" that came through. Other than that you are on official. You will be able to update whenever your cell phone provider comes out with updates via Zune.

I realize .68 is RTM and that some new HTC roms shipped with .68. However, there is still a large number of people who believe that we need to roll back to NoDo before we can upgrade to official Mango as it was explained in the MS beta documentation that came out for Devs to use PreMango 7661 and 7712, which then allowed us to "inofficially" upgrade with a local upgrade to 7720.68.

I have a contact who works at MS who told me Monday that they started rolling .68 out to some employees in a program they designed. Basically they provided an updated WP Engineering Flash Tool that allowed them to get to .68 from Zune. The unofficial way is basically the same thing but we have all the packages so we essentially skip the whole downloading of the diffs.

That's exactly what it means. I don't see a reason for us having to roll back if I've updated to RTM and already received a Samsung Update. That would be counterproductive and I would have to smack M$ on the wrists
also like to know if this is confirmed>
Updating RTM or leaked to official
I really hope you guys right. To u who have the leaked mango rtm installed (.68): does ur voice search through bing work, cus mine always say cant connect to servers. could be that i have chosen sweden as region and we're not officially supported yet, so hopefully this could be rolled out as a local update through zune when mango is beeing rolled out for real.
Anyone have that problem other that me, and lives in the state?
i'm one that thought was better to roll back but also because had installed lot of apps and wanted to clean a bit, now i feel bad with nodo, I want mango again
@Zebbeck: I think are you talking about Bing audio search, with that you can discover title and album cover of a song that is playing (i.e.on the radio) It worked for me and I don't think if works also as voice search
(I had leaked mango RTM before)

[Q] Omnia 7 - Unable to Update past 7008

I just flashed my Omnia 7 from a T-Mobile branded one to the XXJL3 RETAIL UNITED KINGDOM one but am unable to update past 7008. Any one else running in the same problem?
yeah.. i had the same problem.. i was on uk retail rom and was not getting past 7.0.7008.. heres what i did to get my mango update.
1) flash a nodo rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131891 ..
2) u will be on nodo(7389 or 7392) after that
3) next use this guide to update to mango beta 1 (7403 build) http://koolmobile.net/windows-phone-7-mango-7720-rtm-leakedhow-to-install/
4)once 7403 is installed.. zune will automatically give u notification that ur phone will now be updated to final build of 7720(official mang0)
5)after that it again check for updates and then will install samsung updates for correct drivers for ur device..
done!! full official mango in ur device
Will give it a try.Thanks
It seems that the links for the beta mango rom is not available but with the nodo rom its pushing out the 7392 version. Will install that and check if maybe mango pops up on its own
ok quick update. Using the WLAN disconnect trick I seem to have managed to get Zune to detect the 7403 update
Thanks a lot for your help

if it doesnt go through here is the alternate link for beta build

I'm facing the exact same problem. Flashed German T-Mobile NoDo Omnia 7 16GB to a unbranded 7004 with W7 Downloader. Next, I unlocked the device with Chevron WP7 and installed Samsung Tools to keep the lock when connecting with Zune.
Zune installed the 7008 February update succesfully, but now reports that my phone is up-to-date. What a bummer. Why does it let you update to 7008 and not beyond if the removed all the other update up to Mango!? It's a real bummer
I couldn't even restore the backup made with wpupdater.exe

Omnia 7 firmware update question

Hello all,
like many users i've forced the mango update on my Omnia 7.I ended up with firmware version 2424.11.8.2.
However, i read that most of the users that got the update the "normal" way got firmware version 2424.11.8.5, so i rolled back to NoDo and updated again - still i get 2424.11.8.2.
So my question is - is my firmware ( 11.2 ) mango, or do i need to update my phone manually somehow?
Anyone knows what's the difference between 2424.11.8.5 and 2424.11.8.2 ?
My samsung now app doesnt auto-refresh also..could this be related to the firmware ver?
When you say "forced" the update, what do you mean?
Also, when you rolled back and then re-installed, did you need to do anything special to re-install?

2424.11.8.5 is the Mango update with Samsung drivers and 2424.11.8.2 without.
If you wanna enable Internet Sharing feature you need firmware 2424.11.8.5, this you can also do manually with Cab sender... just search here in the forum.
I flashed back to a branded T-Mobile rom for getting firmware 2424.11.9.4, with my unbranded Samsung rom I couldnĀ“t update the firmware.

I mean i used the cable trick (google it) to get the update b4 it was available for my phone through zune.
After i rolled back i installed in the normal way - didnt use tricks, zune said there's an update, so i updated.I guess this is the official update for my phone. But i dont get it, why it comes without samsung drivers..
Unbranded phone
As I understand it if you have an unbranded Omnia 7 then you will only have 11.8.5 and that does not give you tethering. For me to get tethering I need the firmware update that only seems to come from the carriers themselves which leaves me in the lurch.
I do not want to faff about with unlocking them especially as I have 3 unbranded phones I guess I will just have to wait and see what Microsoft push out to us plebs. You can of course install the firmware if you phone is unlocked and you will find plenty of instructions on how to do this.

is it safe to update the Omnia 7 with mango yet?

I have the omnia 7 and because im impatient, i forced the mango update for my phone. this is because it took ages for them to release the mango update for my phone, i assume its ok for me to reset my phone and update it to the new mango now? my carrier is with orange and because i used the force mango upddate trick i have not received any notice from them saying that the official mango for the omnia 7 is available. so is it safe for me to do so now?

I see no problem there. I did the same thing, then after my carrier released the official update, I flashed back the official, old ROM to my Omnia and then properly updated it over Zune with the official update.
How did you "force" the update? If it was jsut the pull-the-Internet trick, you already have the official bits. If it was anything more drastic, you should use your Zune restore point to roll your phone back to how it was, and then check for official updates. If you don't have a restore point that doesn't inlcude the modifications you made to force the update, you my need to do a hard reset or even flash a stock ROM.
