I've read that the n64 emulator works with the 3d converter but it's "slow", and not much more. I've currently lots of 3d games from gameloft working so i'm in no hurry to upgrade, however a working n64 emulator is reason enough for me to try the new v10k fw, so i was wondering if anyone pls can give a good look to the n64 emu and if it can be reasonably playable by tweaking frameskip, sound etc. , hopefully less taxing game like mario64 could work, can anyone please give it a try?
Works good! Most games that ran great on the emulator now run good, about 3 frames with frameskip and ur good to go! Mario, zelda, mario kart and star fox run great and look amazing like they were made for the 3DS! Update!!

Big, big thanks for this, that's what I wanted to hear, v10k here we go!
With the ThiaiZo3D rom and all the tweaks N64oid runs great.... Full FPS for most games but when running through 2d/3d converter FPS drops significantly. Mario64, Mario Kart, Zelda all run great but some other games can be near unplayable (or headache inducing due to very low fps).
Dont bother trying Ridge Racer 64 in 3D.... just too slow... maybe the acura kernel (franlov) works better - I havent tried that yet...

Dear shredman09,
I didnt try n64oid but with franlov kernel and ThiaiZ rom V1.4, 2d/3d converted games gets more fps compared to old roms... 9mm is not playable in 3d with stock kernel because of low fps but with franlov kernel and ThiaiZ v1.4 , it is much more playable now for me...
Kind Regards,
so you are saying i can play snes and n64 emulators/games in 3d? :O

Yes, no lag at all..it just like you play the games on tegra devices..I already test Fruit Ninja THD and Samurai II: Vengeance THD on X10, both working flawlessly and no lag at all.. I'm using WB's V006 roms and custom kernel K010..

Are you sure they run smooth? Even the normal Fruit Ninja lags here compared to the iPhone version...

i tried it on another website and it works fine. only riptide got some issues.
I found this several days ago.
I tried Vengeance, Fruit Ninja THD, Backbreaker THD, History Great Battles Medieval and others.
Fruit Ninja works flawlessly except for the white colour of apples.
Backbreaker works but no movement in the figure. Only environment is working well.
History Great Battles doesn't run.
Besides i tried PowerVR Sacred Odyssey and it failed to run as well (the snapdragon version doesn't work okay)
So overall, only those games run that are supported by the GPU. Not everyone. Samsung models run BackbreakerTHD too but not X10.
it lags a little on furit ninja thd. often happens when starting the game. but everything works fine.
How can this run well if not even the normal fruit ninja runs well?

Normal fruit ninja run well.get latest version...if you mean swipe gesture when you slice fruits a little lag, it is normal because our x10 are capped at 34 fps, try using custom kernel and you will suprise, the lag is still there but almost gone..I hope our devs can push our x10 to 60 fps then we can play ninja fruit like play on iphone..

the guerrilla bob regular always worked. im pretty sure the THD he put after the name stands for tegra hd or something which means that one wouldnt work. and neither would samurai. i know because i personally tried before and i know it was impossible to run samurai before this.

Have you tried any other games? N64oid is still very new and conkers bad fur day was the most advanced n64 game made. Generally it's last to be supported. I'll try it on my play to test this theory, as I'm curious.
Edit: Yep, I'm getting the same thing. You'll just have to wait till an updated version with better compatibility comes out.
As an update,
working:
mariokart 64
zelda ocarina of time
mario party 3
sf rush 2
mario 64 (duh)
Smash bros (although no one has faces)
wave race 64
Not working:
Conquers bad fur day
Hmmm, only one so far..lots more games to try though
My list:
Working:
Mario Kart
Mario 64
Smash Bros
WWF No Mercy (character select messed up a little)
Wave Race (slowish).
ISS 2000
F-Zero
Zelda OOT
Lylat Wars (slow)
Not Working:
Excitebike 64 (no load)
Star Wars Shadows of the Empire (no load)
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (messed up graphics, unplayable).
Paper Mario (no load)
Pilotwings (messed up graphics, unplayable).
ps. Haven't played ANY of the above game complete yet so game breaking bugs might be present.
Yeah I tried goldeneye... No cigar

Cruisin' USA sort of works, it's very choppy even with the frame skip set to Max (10). Also some graphics are garbled.
Checking in on Smash Bros also, works great but no faces. Some slow down and audio loss occasionally.

As a general rule of thumb, a machine needs to be 3 times more powerful to be able to emulate properly.
The Xperia Play can emulate the N64 flawlessly. But it takes time and can be a little tricky to program.
Developers generally work for free in their spare time. If you want to donate to them to help them pay for their time and get the emulator working better, quicker, then feel free to donate to them.

Hard to tell. Theoretically yes imo. But would be so much work to get it optimised. Will never happen.

Emulating on a device only three times as powerfull requires a lot of optimised code that will take a long time (It took quite some time before snes was even decently running on pc's, and a lot more coding is done for pc then the xperia play).
Non-perfect (not all games working, some a bit choppy etc.) PS2 emulation on phones will probably come when ps1 and n64 emulators work nearly as flawless on any mobile phone of that time as snes runs now on nearly all (smart)phones.
Personally I think it will take 3-4 years (xperia play 3 probably).
Some more I tried today:
International Track & Field - DOESN'T WORK.
Mystical Ninja - TOO SLOW.
Paperboy - CRASHES.
Omg i want conkers bad fur day to work sooo bad! want to play some Cavemen vs Rapters!! hehe i find the emulator runs a little slow sometimes...especially for Zelda OOT...any suggestions? or is there a newer/faster emulator out yet?
Doom 64 no go =/ loads just fine but right when u start the game u start inside the ground so u cant move or anything
Shame that every game that works with N64oid plays very smooth on the DX2 and gTablet, but control like drunken sailors (some okay ok).
Most games play slow mo on the Play, but the few that are smooth like Mario Kart and Mario Brothers play sweet.
Ironic.
Wrong rule of thumb
Its not 3x the power of the original system.
Its 12x to emulate is perfectly.
Just go look at the Gamecube emulator thread

Im hoping that some in here with a sensation and n64oid would be able to record a video of them playing mario kart 64.
I'm curious how the sensation and the galaxy s II do compared to each other in emulator performance, and havn't found any videos or benchmarks for the emulators.
I'll be posting this in the galaxy s II forum as well.
Would love to if I could find it on the bloody market!

ok but its on SlideMe but im not paying £4.00 for a test Sorry.
I haven't played Mario kart 64 yet. But majoras mask, ocarina of time, and 007 goldeneye play flawlessly if you can find a good Rom.

mario kart 64 runs flawlessly, and looks amazing on the sensation, really vibrant colors, and the sprites really pop.
the only thing is when a new scene loads, there is a 30ms lag, then the game catches up and runs at full speed.
i have an old version of the apk (i think its 1.1, not sure tho)...i always keep my emu apks, you never know when theyre gonna get pulled from market

Yes, Mario Kart runs fluently, maybe sometimes a 30ms lag will occure, like it was said above, you know, the kind of lags that reminds playing a game on a computer and having a micro-lag when the CD loads datas, really not disturbing at all.
And for Mario Kart, you can even set frameskip to 0
Here are the games I've played and found workinf well:
Mario64
mario kart
Zelda OOT
Zelda Majora mask
Goldeneye
1080 Snowboarding
Castelvania 64
Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
Star Wars ep.1 Racer
Banjo Kazooie (really smooth!)
Carmageddon
Diddt Kong Racing
F-Zero X
harvest moon
lego racer
rampage worl tour
Starfox
WWF Wrestlemania 2000
If you guys have noticed interesting things for the dev, don't hesitate to tell me (or you can tell yourself at Fpse forum) since CrualFoxHound, N64oid tester, is present everyday at Fpse forum ^^
And don't froget v2.0.3 is available on SlideMe market
I can post one around 5pm central time if you still want but pretty much like everyone's saying it runs nice and smooth. Only occasional sound stutters for me hear and there. Let me kno if you want me to still record it later.
Next they need too add multiplayer

I've heard retroarch is very good with cartridge based games. In terms of playing GBA, SNES and Genesis titles is retroarch the ideal choice (including camelot GBA games, which i've had poor experiences in the past playing on my psp). also is psx emulation close to as good as what is available on the PSP?
I checked the reicast compatability thread and found a few titles weren't listed. They are:
-record of lodoss
-floigan brothers
-fur fighters
-tee off golf 2
has anyone tested these four games. also i saw a large amount of feedback with shenmue. whats the latest on how it handles with the current build. Thanks

I have been out of the loop lately. How is N64 emulation on the Xperia Play? What emulator should I use? Is Ocarina of Time perfectly playable without slowdowns?
I recently played OOT all the way through on gingerbread using mupen64plus-ae, that supports analogs. It was 20 fps I think, so pretty much fullspeed, maybe a little bit less in Hyrule field. But since then the emulator has gotten better.
N64oid is faster, but doesn't support analog pads as far as I know, and is no longer in development; it does support analogs on ICS and newer firmwares though.
Thanks so much for the answer.
I run ExtremeKernel with Elite Gamer 2.0. A very clean and unbloated system, purely for gaming.
I have no idea what performance I can expect. But your report is very nice to hear...guess I just have to look into it .
Huh, I suppose I didn't mention that I run stock 2.3.4 de-bloated, with lupus kernel... so yea, with your setup it should run equally as good or better, also counting that emulators have gotten better.
Well about the only games you cant play are the games that need the ram expansion pack like conkers bad furday. Games like banjo kazooie. Or hames made earlier in the n64's life pkay awesomely on the play! I hipe the emus get better because I really do not think it is a hardware problem. Most emus arent exactly optimised for the specific hardware you pkay them on.
