decent android tablet >$200? - General Questions and Answers

hello there, im looking for a decent android tabelt for under $200. i want it to run at least 2.2, so that it will have flash. and would like it to be a capacitive screen. does anyone know of a tablet out right now that fits the bill?
ive seen the HP tablet is only $99 dollars, but it runs some weird OS, which im guessing is why its so cheap..
anyone have any ideas?

The touchpad was 99$ because they shut the production down.
Its an awesome OS named Webos which sadly not is supported anymore and has a lack of apps.
http://hotmid.com is the seller for Chinese tablets and phones. there might be something there. but be careful.
Oh and about flash. it doesn't only depend on the android version. it depends on the Processor too. ARM 6 \ 11 are not supported. everything else (above 1ghz) probably will support flash.

Budget <200 bucks, yep, I'm afraid there are not so many options for a decent tablet from top brands. Yes, china tablets would match this budget, but it's a little annoying to choose a china tablet due to same specs. and unbranded models. But you can search on the following comparison site, http://www.shopsimple.com/tablet-laptops-and-notebooks_c080706/android-2.2_a75.html Found tons of china tabs are listed out there, and this site help you to compare and find the most suitable one. Quite useful.

is is worth getting a tablet under 200 when you can get the xoom for 350?

All decent Android tablets are > $200.... did you mean < $200?

Where can you get a xoom for 350? Searched a round but can't find that price.

Searched a lot around the web, noticed several options of Xoom for about 350 bucks, but only on ebay and it's refurbished. Any one would like to go with the refurbished Xoom?

Should I Buy One?

I want to give my iPad to my wife, and get a tablet that I can reflash ROMs to, and ultimately has flash compatibility. I found one on eBay, totally stock, for $250. Is it worth the money?
1. How does the screen compare to an iPad, Xoom, etc?
2. How does the speed and functionality compare to the iPad, Xoom, etc?
Other thoughts?

1. screen is not nearly as good....let's face it, but certainly good enough. Viewing angles suck, but hell its a tablet, you look at it dead on 99% of the time right? not as fast as ipad but the functionality is much better....tons of options as far as roms to flash, completely customizable, 1.1 or 1.2 bootloader options. A WEALTH of knowledge here for you and a wealth of dev support which has really made this tablet because stock, it's horrible.
This has been my baby since it came out but I am giving mine up, I need some cash flow....I'll sell you mine rooted running cm7 for 225. pm if interested im in the process of putting up a listing

I found one on eBay for 225 actually. There are Honeycomb ROM's with CM7 here on XDA for it correct?
Alright, suit yourself. yes there are honeycomb roms...perhaps you should do a little investigation.....there are plenty of videos out there that show how HC is on the tab....slatedroid is a good source for 1.2 roms.

Either way I may go with the Acer A500 instead, Staples has $100 dollar off coupons redeemable in the store. Brings it to $299 out the door.
good choice as well...if you change your mind, the link to my tab is in my sig

No, do not buy one. Viewsonic has stopped supporting it. It's pissed most os us off, to the point that we've decided to not buy anything made by Viewsonic ever again. Additionally, I can't logically recommend any of their products to anyone either.
The only thing that makes this tablet usable are the 3rd party developers on this and other sites. Without them, this thing wouldn't have sold nearly as well.
So, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING MADE BY VIEWSONIC!!

Good luck, and congrtulations. If it's not too much trouble, can you post on their facebook page letting them know why you decided to go with a competitor? I know it won't help you much, but it would be good for them to know that we have a voice that's being heard.

Which Tablet should I get to use mainly as a Ereader?

I am looking at getting a Tablet PC but all the different tablets for sale are confusing the heck outta me and I can't figure out which 1 are good and which ones will do the things I would like it to do. The fact I live in UK and any interesting sounded tablets are only for sale in USA don't help matters that much.
I would like a Android Tablet that I can read ebooks downloaded from amazon, is portable and light and can do a little bit of web surfing. I'm going to be using it in bed alot to read books as I am finding it very difficult to read books in bed as I keep loosing the page when the book slips out of the hand or the when the fan is on and turns the pages.
I am not interested in a Kindle because it's just a Ereader and I would like to do more then just read books as I mentioned above. And I would like to have 2.2 or higher, I don't want to be waiting around for 10 minutes waiting for a website or app to start up and I'm on a budget of £200, $325. Any suggestions?
You could buy a Nook Color, root it, and put CM7 on it. You can use any ebook reader with it that way, and it should be pretty cheap compared to other options.
You may want to read up on it before you buy it, as I don't know what limitations you'll come against since it wasn't originally meant to be used as a tablet. I'd help you out, but I don't know anything about it other than the fact that it can be done.

Unfortunately as I don't live in USA I can't get a Nook Colour because Barnes and Noble aren't in the UK
Any other suggestions?
I've actually come across refurbished Advent Vega's for £130 is this a good deal?
I have a dell streak 7 wifi and honestly I think this is one time the smaller screen and form factor works as a benefit. It is similar size to a nook and similar weight if I am not mistaken. I read books on it and find it easy to set down and read or hold for extended periods of time. Hope this helps.
I would suggest Nook color as well.

Buy one online that ships worldwide?
I don't importing from USA as there are some differences between the power of UK and USA and I'm not sure what I would need to get American electronics to work in UK, I know USA uses a different power output then UK too and what I understand I would have to buy a transformer which can be expensive. I do like the look of the Dell streak, had a mess around with 1 at PCWorld and thought it was amazing, maybe I'll wait for another month and buy 1

I would say Nook Color as well, it is what it is intended for, its easily modded for full on android experience too.

Considering a xoom, still a good option?

have been looking round for a tab, while the transformer prime seems best its now almost double the cost of the xoom, even though the xoom is quite old, it seems anything else around is still tegra2 or dual core similar spec hardware to the xoom, so i dont see any point apart from the weight in getting anything newer or more expensive, is it still a good option guys? you can get one for around £260 in the UK where as the transformer prime would be £499 and the original transformer maybe £350
i just returned a scroll extreme as it was just soooooooooooooo laggy!! i dont want anything with huge lag like that again
This late? I wouldn't buy the xoom today at its current price.

So I'm the first to respond...the original Xoom is a wonderful device and is even better now than it was when it was new because it has ICS official update, and best of all, the most fantastic developers and real bleeding-edge advances in Xoom software. It's so well built and sturdy that the bit of additional weight doesn't matter. In my opinion the Xoom is still the best tablet available, as everything works well and there's tons of additional functionality with custom roms.
The xoom is built like a tank and with it's specs what else out there is better for the money. I have two of them and the last one I picked up for $315 U.S.
Picked up 32 gb wifi only xoom a few months back with original box and 5 cases (4 still sealed) for $275 off craigslist. Didn't think it was too bad and I'll be keeping xoom for awhile

the only thing i can see maybe 'better' for the money is the asus transformer 101 maybe just because its a little lighter and can be expanded with the kb if need be, also the connectivity looks a little better placed, and its just as supposed with roms and people using it. These are both £290 ish in the UK?
i mean the xoom 2 is a little more expensive but for that lighter slimmer body you lose the expansion slow, sure you can use the usb host but i dont like that idea, would prefer an expansion slot, the galaxy tab just seem out there with the price, then you have the acer a200 which ones again is similar so im thinking the original xoom or asus transformer in this price bracket is the best option...
I only got my Xoom about 3 weeks ago, £280 from PC world. Been an android guy for a year now so did my research to see what the community support was like. Noticed that we're getting official CM9 support, that made the deal even sweeter. Still team EOS provide excellent support on AOSP builds. Even in terms of specs, great screen, great processor, can be overclocked (and stable). In my opinion this is still a great buy!
I too want to buy a tablet. But I'm confused between xoom, galaxy tab 10.1 and transformer TF101.
So what do you guys suggest?
My requirements are, good support by Dev community and which wont brick easily...
Thanks..
Peace.
Hi I just picked up a Motorola Xoom WiFi 32GB via a pricerunner.co.uk search. This got me a £5 discount making the delivered price just under £245. I tried to upgrade to ICE/Android 4.0, but managed to “Brick” the device …so be warned and be patient.
Fortunately I manage to resolve this issue with the help of some XDA forum links, YouTube and Motorola site itself. I will try and write up the details of my problem and solution in another thread.
I am now back to the original Android 3.2 version and so far I am very happy the XOOM.

the Xoom has great community support and as far as I know the galaxy tab 10.1 does too because that was another option of mine and community support is a big factor when I buy a new product both I believe are getting official CM9 support. i can't speak for the TF101,I don't know much about that one

I have all three and the best will be the one you can find at the best price. All three are near similar hardware with each having an advantage/disadvantage to the others.
Community/Dev support I would have to say the Xoom wins though...as well as being difficult to brick. Google "Experience" device really makes the Xoom a great device.
(I use the Xoom, my wife is using the Transformer and I gave my mother the Galaxy Tab).
in my opinion, its the best tablet for the cost.
main cons are weight and potentially out of date hardware. that hasn't stopped it from being the first official device to receive 4.0.4
would love if i could get a 2nd one as backup.
HD dock is wonderful. it even works with my otterbox.
Xoom is the best overall tablet. Newer tablets have shinier items, but considering the durability, functionality, support and overall user experience, I don't think you could go wrong buying a xoom.
I do have a Xoom either and I think it's a good choice and you won't regret buying it. It isn't expensive for its quality and it runs very well and smoothly especially with CM9 ICS.

Actually, the Xoom has a better frame rate than the Transformer 101. You could search for the thread that proves it somewhere here in General or Q&A (sometime last summer?).
If you can find one for a good price I think it's a no-brainer. Great build quality and great active devs on XDa. What more could you possibly ask for?

check craigslist in your area, or look on ebay. do your research and you are sure to find a great deal!
I've had Xoom since almost release day. Wifi at start and chose it over the galaxy tab just cause it felt more rugged. Tab was nice but felt cheep. Haven't regretted it one bit. Now I own 2 xooms, wifi and 4g, wifi one my son mainly uses. Got my 3g/4g on Craigslist for 400, came dock, leather case and original box.
based on your guys opinions here and elsewhere, i ordered the xoom and should have it in my hands tomorrow. really excited about this device! i even changed my sig already

Looking for the best BUDGET tablet

I want the BEST deal possible
I want the most bang for my buck
perhaps an up and coming release
or the most popular tablet already available.
I have nothing but time and the first tablet i bought was an ipad and it was super cheap due to an amazing deal.
I've done a lot of research of my own and this is my final step, I'm hoping the -always smart- people on here can help a brother out.

Nexus 7 by a billion gazillion miles. 1080p screen, serviceable dual cameras, immediate updates, quad core GPU, stereo speakers.
Or maybe the N10? The new one isn't here yet, so you should prolly wait a little.
Currently, nobody can beat Apple at tablets, though. Just my opinion. Seems there are more apps that are optimized for the large screen.

For $230, you can't expect something like that to be future-proofed. What you could do is sell your old device in an emerging market, where the demand is high and supply low, and use that extra cash to upgrade frequently. But the N7 def has more to it than just the hardware. It is as close as you can get to the stock experience, so there is very little lag. And there is longer support by Google. It gets a lot of dev attention. It is also very cheap.
Seriously, if you want a good deal, the N7 is the way to go.

well technically i decided about 3 hours ago and have been doing none stop research. Everyones telling me nexus, i'm loving everything about nexus. 200+ dollars doesn't break the bank and i cannot find anything better.
I normally do tons of research, but i think this is an easy call right here.
took me litterely 2 months to pic out my ms g60 gaming laptop
however i was in china atm, so i probably could of chosen better, but in china that was an amazing deal.
alright

Well the nexus 7 (2013) is a good tablet and really cheap for what you get.
$230 for the 16GB version.
also running the lastest android.
If you don't want to spend a ton of cash for a great device, get a nexus 7 Refurbished 32GB only $140, just search on ebay.
