the battery life. I mean 1230 isn't small compared to iPhone 3G that I currently have, so I'd assume it would last longer. I hope.
are there programs to optimize battery life? I've never used android and don't know hardly anything about custom stuff. I browse the web and check Facebook pretty often during the day (got to kill time on bus rides to class) as well as music and texting often. I'm a little worried about how the battery will fair for me :/
Anyone know if there are extended batteries for this? (I'd also assume that the one for the DHD fits as well)
I have seen 1600 batteries for the Desire HD so maybe they will work for the inspire
I totally agree. My ONLY reservation about the Inspire is the pint-sized battery!
I've had discussions on other boards about this exact issue, and there are some Inspire lovers who are so attached to this phone they feel offended when I try holding their feet to the fire during discussions regarding the battery life.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that even though most people who have already decided to buy the Inspire don't have any reservations about the battery life, I still do. But hopefully more info will come out regarding the lightweight battery. Then I hope we all can make a better decision on whether or not to get this phone!
I am certainly not going to let the battery size affect my decision.
I have seen many reviews all stating 10-12 hours with heavy use, it seems they have optimized this phone since the original desire HD

Thats pretty much how I feel about it, this phone is pretty damn fast and for 99 bucks it's a hell of a deal!
1200 mah battery?
That's gonna go fast with android....unless you take the "smart" out of smartphone (eg. Disabling 3g, auto-sync, email fetching etc.)
If you get this phone, an extended battery seems a must.....
Especialy since you're new with android. The iphone "just works" compared with android...you have to put your own tweaks here and there to make it your version of "perfect", but that's what makes android android

I love all the subjective guessing around here, watch some reviews read some reviews everyone has stated 10-12 hour battery life with moderate to heavy use, dont just assume because of the millwatt hours that it will automatically suck, and dont compare it to previous models because there has been some optimization
Officially, the battery is said to provide up to 6 hours of talk time and as much as 15.5 days of standby. Those are pretty amazing estimates for such a small battery. In our tests the Inspire 4G was able to provide 10-11 hours of use – including making a bunch of voice calls (some longer than 15 minutes), watching live-streaming TV news feeds, checking and answering my emails every 5 minutes or so, having the built-in GPS help find a friend’s location and even playing a few games of Solitaire. HTC is doing something right with squeezing so much from such a compact battery pack.

This is just one review of the many
Im sure there will be an extended battery for this phone. it makes no sense not to make one! and htc has been good so far so why not build an extended battery.
I've been testing this phone since late last week and can say that the battery live is comparable to most other android handsets currently on the market. If you're a heavy user, don't expect to get more than 9-12 hours out of the battery.
The longest the battery has lasted for me was 25 hours. On Saturday I used to phone pretty lightly (2 phone calls, a couple text messages, checked twitter throughout the day, downloaded 700MB worth of files for Dungeon Defenders over Wi-Fi, and played the game for about 30 minutes). When I went to bed, the phone was at 13% battery life, but I left it unplugged overnight to see if it would last until the morning. With all notifications and sync still on, the Inspire still had 3% battery life when I woke up 9 hours later.
I'd imaging if I didn't download 700BM of data the phone would have lasted much longer under "light use."

"Optimized" what do you mean? Is there proof that ATT optimized the rom to run longer then the original Desire HD?
The battery size isn't going to keep me away but i just like to know. I also noticed that the inspire has SLCD instead LCD in the DHD. Will the super lcd screen give a better battery life?
Eventhough, extended battery is released, how will it fit into the phone. Is there enough room for a larger battery. This phone will be my next sucessor to my nexus one. It will do til the next real Nexus. I just love the unibody style.

I love all the baseless justification for a retarded consumer move to save money.
Htc always has to mess something up in their phones.
This time, luckily, its only the battery which can be easily replaced

meanwhile there are posts from nick above from HTC source and he actually has the phone and he states over and over 9-12 hours heavy use.
ok guys, I'm very excited about getting this phone. But I don't really want buyer's remorse, so help convince me 100%!
to be honest, I like having the latest and greatest phone. I constantly monitor the tech world (Gizmodo and Engadget are my top two pages on Chrome!), but coming from a 18 month old 3G iphone, pretty much anything now is an upgrade. I just don't want to regret getting this and being locked in for two years while the "future" is released in half a month afterwards. So justify the things holding me back:
screen resolution
battery
single core Scorpion
no sideloading
if you guys could kindly help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

well the supposedly great qHD screen on the atrix has been having some none pleasant reviews with colors and app recreation. The superamoled on samsungs has burn in and doesnt save battery so the SuperLCD doesnt look that bad huh?
Battery has been consistently getting 9-12 hours heavy use by many reviewers
the processor in the inspire is pulling 1976 quadrant scores bone stock
sideloading really not a big deal, use airplane mode or sideload wonder machine
any questions?
nope thanks man, I'm 99% sold! I just need to google what side load wonder machine is lol. I'm loving the build quality and support from HTC and you guys here, though I've never rooted or flashed or anything. Guess I'll start learning

side load wonder machine is from android central and it allows you to sideload apps on AT&T phones that dont allow it. PS theres a thread in one of the Inspire sections on here
ah, sounds sweet. I'm getting excited. Though, I'll probably wait for MWC to at least happen in case they surprise us. And one last question I think, anyone have pictures or a source of the 2 different colors they have?

its weird at CES they showed a bronze color if you check out the videos you will see but now they are all black, im thinking CES was a desire HD with AT&T logo on the back, thats also why they didnt allow you to turn on the phone
can't seem to decide.. I have a Blackberry Bold right now and both these new phones blow this POS away!!!
Droid Charge easily. Better screen and better battery life.
Droid is Nice buTTT
I currently have both. I have to say up front - I had a Sammy Fascinate and loved it. If I could have done Skype I'd have stayed with it. Buttttt - I couldn't so I went with the first available - the Iphone 4. My family and I travel a lot for leisure via auto and we like to stay in touch face to face.
The iphone was very dependable - does what it says it will do every time. Buttt - it is locked down pretty tight.
Out comes the HTC Bolt and I waited for things to settle in with various ROMs. I jumped in the pool about 3 weeks ago and after considerable tinkering I get about 10-12 hours of battery life.
Out comes the Sammy Charge. Remembering my experience with the Fascinate - I get one. The screen is TERRIFIC!!!! Feels good in the hand, battery life is a little better than the Bolts (probably will get better with rooting, custom ROMs and tinkering) and the GPS works fairly quickly.
Now the bad news:
1. Data connection - data connection - data connection. Not good, erratic drops, slower than the Bolt, not good.
2. No Skype yet.
3. Sammy history. Sammy/Verizon are slow with any major updates and as a consequence developers are slow to develop custom ROMs. This is just a personal observation.
All in all - I am back with the Bolt - after some tinkering now it "just works" all the time. No freezes, lots of Skype and FAST!!!
Hope this helps.

The erratic data may only be affecting a small number of LTE devices since I read some Thunderbolt users have had similar problems.
Have you tried both Skype apps from the Market?
Remember, Google is promising faster updates for 18 months after a phone releases. That may include the Droid Charge.
Bow chika wah wah
Charge vs Bolt
Like I said, I have both the devices. The Bolt never acted as erratic as the Sammy. When I say erratic I mean complete dropouts not just shifts. A little better when you download, install and use LTE switch program.
About the Skype - nothing to do with Google all about the Skype/Microsoft universe. Remember that the Bolt originally had Skype installed. When it finally came out - no Skype. Still no authorized Skype just the grey area apk.
My take remains, the Bolt is my choice based on these issues and Sammy's history.

My vote is for the sammy. I have owned both and having to throw the thunderbolt on the charger 3 times a day got old fast. I also think the samsung feels a lot better in my hand.

Funny, my experience with both devices is exactly the opposite. My Thunderbolt (recently sold) was horrific with data drops, often refusing to hold any data connection whatsoever. 3 days with the Charge and I can already tell data connectivity is much improved.
Agreed. I didn't have the TB, but I had the Fascinate and I would drop data at my house all the time. I've got about a 10pt better db signal with the Charge and haven't had as many drops (if any) now.
Had the Thunderbolt and hated it. That little douchebag of a phone would drop my LTE constantly and make tears appear on my face and try to drown me.
Sure Charge isn't rooted or ROM'd yet but so far it's better in every possible way. The battery life is way better which is huge for me since I need to be in touch with my hookers constantly and can't always be near a charger.
Also the screen kicks golden beans
hahah funny description...
what's the cheapest place to get the Charge from right now? I have a $50 verizon new every two credit to use too.. I don't think Amazon or best buy honors that right?
Best Buy will match the price that you would get at Verizon, so you should still get it for $250
costco has it for 250 as well, which my best buy price matched without even verifying. the main benefit of shopping at costco i believe is a 90 day return policy on the phone, so if the bionic, galaxy 2, or something else comes out in the next 3 months and you want to trade phones you are able to do so.
a verizon store is the last place i'd buy the phone as they charge a $35 restocking fee if you happen to return it, and you only have 14 days to do so
I had the tbolt twice... I bought it day one ... and within 5 days it was returned due to horrible battery life.
in the DC area i have had GREAT lte reception, however in the phoenix area the LTE is horrible. so i think much depends on your location.
I bought the tbolt again when there were a decent amount of roms and plenty of people saying they had better battery life... the only way I could use the phone for more than 4 hours was to turn off all the radios ... that made the phone useless to me...
i now have the charge and it runs with all my apps and my level of use for a full day... i don't have to charge every 2- 3 hours anymore... so i am very happy with the charge even though it is not rooted... (I was too quick with the update).
again even with the charge and my lg lte modem I found the area around scottsdale and tempe to have either no or horrible lte coverage. i think that verizon should work on better coverage in cities before saying they have lte in them...
I too would like to have skype working with video ... it would just make sense but there are other apps that work well such as oovoo.

I'd have to agree on the spotty coverage in Tempe/Scottsdale/Mesa. Sitting in my office right now in Tempe I have no LTE coverage. If I walk outside it will pick it up; this is usually the case no matter where I go (in the cities listed). I have not tested it in any other city.
thanks for the Costco note.. I am going to buy from them for $250 and they give you an accessory pack for free.. plus the 90 day swap window which is very nice to have!

I would recommend testing both if you can. I got the thunderbolt on release and love it. I got the Charge on release and love it as well, but prefer sense over touchwiz. Thats just my personal preference. Id keep the Thunderbolt over the Charge if I had to choose, but I dont.
I dont see how some that complain about their LTE dropping when they had their Tunderbolt do not take into consideration the national LTE outage....their wasnt a second LTE phone at the time to compare whether their LTE dropping was due to the phone or the service...yet they blame the phone. For all you know, your data dropping at that particular time could have been service related, not phone related. You had nothing to compare it to. So far, my Thunderbolt consistently has better LTE speeds, while my Charge had better 3G speeds. Both drop LTE and revert back to 3g in the same area at the same time. Only speeds differ. Im in a 4G area FWIW.
Both are great phones and just like any phone, it depends on your needs. I would advise you to play with both, and if you dont mind the re-stocking fee buy one and return it for the other if your not happy. In my experience, if youre crafty you can get out of the restocking fee and talk your sales rep into allowing you to buy one phone and return it if youre not happy.
I need the voice/data to work at the same time. But I still want this beast cuz of tthe beautiful screen

Your posting in the Samsung Charge forum, of course people are going to say the Charge. I promised I would never buy another Samsung product after the upgrade problems I've had with my fascinate and am going to stick with that. My wife has the Thunderbolt and that is going to be my next phone. Battery doesn't seem to be as bad and I already have the options to apply an undervolted kernel to save battery life. My wife's nephew has the phone also and he doesn't have issues with the battery. YMMV, IMHO, TIFWIW....
jv
how much battery life savings can you get with the undervolted kernal? if you do the undervolted kernal.. doesn't that slow down the processor in the phone thus make the overall use of the phone slower?
can anyone recommend a uk supplier for a bp6x battery that the milestone 2 recognises? or ideally a seller on ebay as i prefer to use paypal? i tried one that said "genuine motorola battery" when it arrived i plugged it in and the dreaded "?" appeared and the phone refused to recognise it. so it was obviously a fake. almost all the listings ive seen appear to be copies. i dont mind a non original aslong as its recognised by the phone and works... the only original battery seller i can see are second hand ones and id rather have a new one if possible. thanks
im interested to same problem ... so up +1!
Rule of thumb is don't buy batteries off ebay.
I was considering purchasing second hand ones, and even considered getting a droid 2 battery second hand, so at least it might be genuine moto, but thought better of it and feel validated with my choice.
At the end of the day, the battery can potentially fry your entire phone the second you connect it. You can't seem to get them direct from moto, but I'd suggest contacting your service provider and see if they can order genuine parts.
I suggest getting a portable charger for those outings where you know you will need some more battery life. Get a car charger, and if possible, a spare charger for work. Than most of your bases are covered and safer too
I'd purchased 2 from a seller on ebay and both work fine - no ? icon whatsoever, even though they're clearly fakes (no hologram). Will give it a week and see how they're lasting, and ill pass on the seller ID. They're handy to have as they can easily fit into a wallet and do wonders if you're getting tore into the Friday night scene.
ive got two spare chargers, and a car charger DreadpirateDan but my original is getting a bit knackered. itll jump from 80% to 40% in one go. then 40% down to nothing. doesnt last anywhere near aslong as it used too. so definitely time for a replacement. i got my phone on ebay so dont have a service provider to contact.
thanks gogz, let us know how u get on. i picked up one of the genuine second hand ones on ebay and it works fine. but its actually older than the one i originally had lol.

Holy moley that's crazy as, what do battery diagnostics tell you of your battery health etc? (if they even work, lol)
Also, have you tried battery calibration? That issue just sounds crazy, perhaps that might help?
EDIT:
Maybe you should get AnTuTu Tester off the market and run a battery test (will require your phone to be out of action for a few hours rapidly discharging though )
I scored 358 and am placed just above HTC HD2 and below LG Optimus 2X. The Galaxy S2 doesn't seem to have scored much more than me going by the bar graph - I've allways thought my battery to be shocking and potentially damaged health wise. So maybe that could give you an idicator as to how it's holding up, just for curiosity sake.
yeh tried that. the batterys just old thats all. theyre only good for a 1000 charges or something. so charging it couple times a day for over a year soon adds up. as they age the voltage becomes more erratic and it doesnt hold its charge.
I bought 2 original BP7X from ebay (and one bigger cover) and they are perfect.

BP7X is the way forward buddy. Can abuse the phone all day long and have 50% by the end with custom ROM and Juicedefender. I'm sure with light use you could get a week out of the thing.
ms2 is enough busty :F with bp7x and backcover is like to have a notebook in your pants.
i wish a batery that doesn't needs a backcover and works good without any block
This was were I got my batteries from guys. I've tested them both quite extensively over the holiday season and they have lasted well. Has proved to be a good investment actually as I sucked all the juice out of my phone taking 720 video at a gig over NYE and needed the phone to regroup after it. Hope this helps you. I also got one of those docks with the battery slot in the back to charge them up as a wee christmas present to myself too. I'm getting geeky in my auld age.
hey gogoz with that battery can u see how much % of juice remains ? and can u recharge it from your phone?
Yup. No problems on both counts there.
I have to say that I purchased one of those BP7x 1800mAh batteries and I am not impressed at all.
It barely makes 2 days without data connection always on.
Still I am using the phone underclocked at 800 mhz with screen on and everything forced at 300 when the screen is of wit setcpu.
It takes about 3 hours to burn 10% of charge
Well it only adds like 30% (or something?) extra life.. so if your normal life span used to be about 36 hours then 46 (barely 2 days) is just about right.
for replacement battery i would higly recommend "mugen" batteries. their average performance exceeds the OEMs. But if you go for the heavyweight usage, try their 3300mAh [HLI-A855XL] for milestone. not cheap though compared to ebay deals, but worth it quality wise.

I have a Droid 2 BP7X and it works fine in my MS2. I'd be wary of the Chinese writing and the very cheap price on the link you provided though. And you will need a new battery cover (mine was supplied with one).
hey guys.
I'm currently in the market for a new cell phone. i had the galaxy nexus for a month last year and i LOVED it but the battery life was just god awful imo. im currently use an iphone 4s (jailbroken) and i have no interest in the iphone 5. i LOVE my Nexus 7 and miss being have to have the same ICS/Jellybean UI for my phone. but im worried about battery life.
is the GS3 battery life any better than the galaxy nexus?
personally i would rather own the galaxy nexus being that its a nexus phone and and its stock rom is pure AOSP but being that i can flash AOSP roms on the GS3, i though why not, if it has a better battery life then heck yeah. plus the gs3 i can use a microsd card (even though 32gb's on the galaxy nexus and more than enough but still)
lmk how you battery life is guys. what would you guys recommend? 99 bucks for a galaxy nexus for 2 year renew contract or just get it unlocked on ebay for probably around the same price as a 32 gb gs3 on contract
I have never owned a Nexus. But those that have are saying the battery life on the S3 is better. I am impressed with my battery life, stock, rooted, unlocked, clean kernel. Also the hardware specs aren't even close. S3 all the way! The dev support is awesome with lots of ROMS to choose from as well. It is great now, but will only get better.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
i routinely net 20+ hrs battery with 4hrs screen on...so yea battery life is legit on the s3.
I have the Verizon Galaxy S3 while my brother has the AT&T Galaxy Nexus.
Last weekend while tailgating for a football game he was complaining about battery life. We had both pulled our phones off the chargers about the same time and had been tailgating in the same spot for a few hours with similar use - texting a couple of phone calls, checking twitter, etc. (I had probably used mine a little bit more). He was at 80% while my phone was at 92%.
Now, this could be a GSM vs. CDMA thing, or other factors could be in play, but take that example for what it's worth.
I've used the Galaxy Nexus extensively and I just recently got a GS3; while I agree that the battery life on the GS3 is longer-lasting I also have to say that it is less manageable at this point. The GN has a ton of different kernel/ROM combinations and I can almost guarantee you can find one that will give you the same (if not better) battery life of the GS3; meanwhile, the GS3 has a larger battery out of the box (2100mAh vs 1850mAh) and is getting a larger amount of support more and more, I wouldn't be surprised if one day soon the GS3 has just as many options as the GN.
So, GN STOCK vs GS3 STOCK = GS3 Winner! I also have to put an extra tidbit in here, the GS3 takes sooooo much longer to charge than the GN, I'm talking an hour and a half longer almost, BUT it charges the battery to a full charge every time. The GN has problems doing that with the stock setup for whatever reason.

The GN has problems doing that with the stock setup for whatever reason.

..i never herd of any gnex owner netting 20+hrs with 4 hrs screen on as many gs3 owners have. post some screen shots of your gnex doing the same and ill believe you!
Yep. what ^ he said. Gnex while it's got pretty ROMs and lots of developer support, it's still junk. forget about using speaker phone for taking on the phone, SQ is horrid even with good headphones, Bluetooth sound is so garbage.
I had the Gnex for about 11 months before buying GS3. I've had the GS3 for about 4 months now and I have to say, i get little more than 2x battery life compared to Gnex on comparable usage. Both on verizon LTE. I use speaker phone on regular basis for my conference calls. I leave Bluetooth on, GPS on, don't use power saving feature, receive about 100 emails per day with push,
No ROM or kernel will help you with ****ty hardware. Gnex talk time was 90min for me before hitting red zone, with GS3 i got 5 hours talk time plus 3 hours screen time before going yellow.
Right now there's no other phone that will beat GS3 other than Razr Maxx, don't know about iPoon5
I got 4 hours of screen on time out of my extended (2100) and 3 hours out of my stock battery all the time on Jelly Bean + Lean Kernel. Ya'll being ignorant, honestly.
The galaxy s3 gets good battery... definitely better than nexus. I would wait a bit for the next generation nexus device or galaxy s4

Had vz nexus since the release and no matter how much I customized it, the max screen on time I could get was 3 hrs. Got vz s3 few days ago and getting about 5 hrs on it . Running aokp on both phones.

i used lots of extended batteries but not a 5200 size yet so i was leary of size and weight and most about back cover but i was very please with all 3. fit and feel were perfect for me so no issues there. cover has a gloss finish that shows some smudges but thats to be expected imo. price was $21.99 and free shipping which i thought was reasonable then after using it for 1 full cycle i really liked the price.back cover is also easy to remove and its much stronger than stock samsung cover which i also liked. overall i'm very pleased with the unit. got some pics to try and show some views of size/finish and overall usage stats. these stats are from 100% on first charge. i'm on second charge and stats thus far are even better and i will try to update this thread with those stats. if i missed anything you guys wanna know please ask or pm me. also forgot to add NFC (Near Field Communication): a set of standards for establishing communication between smart devices. The function is applied broadly in contactless transactions (such as Google Wallet), data exchange, simpler Wi-Fi setup, and more.
Why does it dip and come back up ? You charged it? What ROM is this?
Do a test without being on WiFi the whole time and without plugging it in.

I was thinking that you mean on Stock Firmware and all aps that man yould use i with all of that i think i got point here i was using CM and AOSP and my bat was great but without bunch of things
Actually looks pretty good to be fair. good to know you have wifi on 24/7 and screen brightness on full. 2days + with that sort of usage is great, despite what some people have put. especially for a 5200.
just as a note, can you say what apps you've used / how often through the day.
e.g. i use facebook for a good few hours.
emails check and sync regularly.
couple of hours every day browsing xda forums.
etc etc etc
that kind of thing i got myself a 7500 zero lemon battery and it is so very bulky, so im thinking about downsizing slightly to something thats still going to perform well. this looks like a good candidate
why is the last photo photoshopped to be thinner?
Pay $2 more for Anker brand IMO
