Hey fellas. This is for people who are thinking about getting a sensation. If you don't care about this phone.. DON'T READ. Thanks.
Well I just got my sensation about an hour ago from walmart. I'm really digging this phone. The screen is huge, the colors are fantastic and its lighter. TOO light for my liking honestly. Feels like I'm holding a vibrant. I hate the fact its so light. It feels fake to me kinda. I love the way the g2 feels. Its not light, but its not chunky and heavy.
The build quality is pretty good. It feels FANTASTIC in the hand but I still don't like the lightassedness this phone has. I still prefer the battery door latch that our vision has but its not hard at all to get the back off.
Speed: not even going to lie. Its fast. Pretty damn fast. But compared to our vision is what you guys want to know. And having them side by side having the sensation obviously stock and my vision obviously not (oc'd to 1.2 gigs) I don't honestly see a difference.. at all. Probably after root gets here and a little oc hits this then we will see.
If anyone wants to know anything ie want me to run tests against it etc just let me know. Just for reassurance : THIS IS JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE DEBATING ABOUT GETTING THIS PHONE AND WANTED TO KNOW SOMEONES OPINION. I love reading people's opinions on phones and I always come here to read people opinions on their experience with the phone I want. Just wanted to give back my opinion. Maybe it might help someone, maybe it won't.

How much better is the screen compared to the vision? Does it feel a lil downgraded? Or is it Better In every aspect?

To me honestly I LOVE this screen. very nice and responsive (unlike my vision sometimes sadly) and the colors are better. i am a little biased sure (ive been waiting for a 4.3 inch screen for a while) but the big factor for me at least is that the pyramid is visible outside. i think its a really big step up.
How are data speeds? I know it's a 14.4 device, but a newer radio may be better optimized - also -how is the reception? Battery?
Have you had a chance to use HTC watch yet?
I have a G2 currently and love it, I really like the look of the Sensation though..
4G is insanely slow right now honestly. i think its because the device isnt even released by tmobile yet so im not making it a biggie right now. when its working though, its extremely quick, especially on wifi. and there is virtually no lag whatsoever anywhere especially when using the device. and it gets faster over time. havent used htc watch though yet im sorry. cant make any calls on the battery life. this is still my first run through of the battery.
Will keep a watch on this thread, I don't really have many questions just wanted to thank you for the review

Looks like it has the Sense keyboard to me. The gingerbread keyboard is black right?
I am also coming from a G2. I love this phone in every aspect. However, I do find myself switching back to the G2 every now and then simply because it has root and a trackpad for scrolling long articles. Thats probably the only thing I miss. A trackpad, never realized how much easier it made things. Would you all happen to know of an app that givesu a thumb scroll in every app like the music app has? I have no idea why htc, or google (whoever's fault it is) chose not to integrate this feature all around.
Well, not here to ask questions as I already bought the Galaxy S II(was between that and the Sensation),but I can tell you some things for sure.
Sometimes, you're gonna miss that extra RAM that HTC for some reason didn't give this phone.768mb on the Sensation with Sense 3 is as pure stupid as the good camera with no flash on the Galaxy S.Second is that, although the Adreno 220 is REALLY good and is bound to get even better with root and, obviously, overclocking,it isn't really the beast that'll handle the qHD screen with ease, especially when scrolling through screens.
For the rest,I still think that it's a hell of a good phone, just not quite the upgrade from my Desire HD.Not comparing or fanboyin' or anything(ALL my smartphones until now were HTC after all),but just HTC could have made it better.I kinda like the Evo 3D though...
I haven't seen any lag on the sensation at all.are you referring to the sense launcher when you say scrolling through screens? Cuz with that, there is no lag either. I knew there was less ram when I bought it and I thought I might end up regretting it but I honestly haven't seen any reason to and this is just stock. I can only imagine afterwards. I don't think I will overclock like I did my g2. 1, for the sake of the battery, and I don't see how the speed could really improve much

Well, take my word with a pinch of salt as I don't have a Sensation. But on my Desire HD with Sense 3 rom(768mb of RAM too),RAM is always less than 200mb free.No lagging there too,but after some use and some 100 apps installed,I think it would show.
i currently have a vision
but im dying either for the sensation or the evo 3d, do any of you hapen to know if theres gonna be a 850mhz version of one of these 2 beauties?
. Just because 100 apps are installed, doesn't necessarily mean they are all eating ram. I do however understand what you are saying. I guess only time will show as I've only had it for two and a half weeks now. I think that extra core will kick in then. From my knowledge, the sg2 has a processor where both cores are on at all times where as the sensation's cores can run independently of each other. I think that will lead to better battery optimization. Maybe the lag, if any one experiences any, is when that second core is kicking in. I haven't had this happen to me, but to comment on the topic in case anyone is switching, my advice would be to absolutely grab that sensation. But keep your g2 if you can cause it was indeed a great successor to the first ever android.

Seems like 6 other people who say it helped are smoking crack too, uh? Don't tell me its a placebo affect when as soon as I did it, my keyboard is much more responsive. I used to have to double tap keys all the time but now my first and every tap is registering. Just because it does nothing for you, doesn't mean it didn't do anything for me know it all. I think I have a little bit more mobile knowledge than to be fooled by the placebo affect.

I have to say jelly bean blows this sense bs out of the water. I cant wait to have it on my one x, mostly just to use Google now. Its so nice and fast and actually useful. I can set all my alarms without even looking at the phone!
Holding out for source code. Hopefully it will comes quickly. Having come from several previous htc devices, I should be used to this long wait for source bullshhh by now.

Because a lot of us are just in it for the hardware. I don't want a Nexus (though I have been quite tempted) in fact, the ROM I *want* to use is MIUI. However, since we do not yet have kernel source that is not 100% ready for me and I also don't want to lose the Sense burst camera.
I don't hate Sense, in fact it was my first Android experience (HTC Aria) when I first switched to CyanogenMod, I thought "Where did my beautiful clock and Facebook widget go?!"
Then I got over it. If one doesn't take advantage of a majority of the things that Sense has to offer, they simply have no reason to keep it on their phone. I fall into that category.
I promise, if there had been a version of the HTC One X without Sense, I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat. It's the most beautiful phone screen I have ever used, and I like the general design. My only complaint is no memory card slot.
What you're saying is: If you don't like Touchwiz, don't buy Samsung. If you don't like Timescape, don't buy Sony. If you don't like Sense, don't buy HTC, and if you don't like Blur, don't buy Motorola.
It isn't that simple because some of us dislike them all. I happen to fall into that category, but if I have to pick my poison it is definitely Sense.
We buy the phone despite Sense because we know that there will eventually be the opportunity to remove it.
It's great hardware, and Android devices are rarely stuck on the manufacturer's software
Thanks. That sir is a good answer. Ive been asking people y they would buy a phone knowing its sense, and then complain about it. Just funny 2 me ya know. ;-) but i got flamed for asking the question...........even got called a troll!! Ha ha ha!!!!! Funny!!!!! Same here. This is the sexiest device on the market by far. A little low on the internal storage, but this is like saying a 10/10 drop dead gorgeous model isn't any good because her titties are only a B cup.
I was hoping we'd have the kernel source by now so we could get some real custom ROMs on here and not just modded stock ROMs. I do appreciate the mods and hacks but I'm talking about CM9, AOSP/AOKP, etc. Very disappointed with HTC because of their constant neglect. Almost thinking of selling this device and getting a Galaxy Nexus again.

Same as posted before, I bought it because it was priced well, and I don't care for any manufacturer overlay tbh. My first android was the original evo, loved it, but then I found cyanogenmod, and loved it even more. That's what's great about android you can get custom roms, and have it the way you like it.
Also sense has changed a lot lately it use to be able to multitask just like default android, but HTC in sense 4 changed that which, imo, is a reason to be able to complain. Why change something that never had a peoblem.

Thanks I don't really think there is anything wrong with Sense 4.0 in fact, I like it. I just know that I don't use it.
I'm going to use Apex or Nova Launcher for sure (I frequently swap between the two) then I lose the Sense widgets.
I would rather use Widget Locker so the Sense lockscreens (despite being pretty cool) become useless. (Not using WL now though because of the multitouch issue it causes)
People just want to get the extra memory it uses back. You're right though, Sense 4.0 is pretty nice in my opinion. Not really much to not like, but if you don't use it it turns into wasted resources.
and I think everyone has to admit, the Sense camera is delightful

Im planning to maybe pass on my sensation to my 67-year-old father. It would be his first smartphone as well as first touchscreen one.
The issue is, that my father is not an expert in electronics by far (barely knows how to read and write text messages). His old phones have been plain nokias (yeah the legendary ones) and such. Also his fingers are very thick (about the size of a billiard stick).
Alas what do you think would be the best ROM to suit him?
What im looking for is a simple interface, easy to use, and something that has good batterylife (he often forgets to charge his phone)
Trying out different ROMs isnt that simple to him because if he learns to use one function of a ROM then it will be difficult to adjust to a different ROM that functions differently.
So what do you suggest?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
How about virtuous inquisition,? It is senseless, stable, excellent battery life, no frills, Rom. I personally think that would be a excellent choice for seniors. He won't have any problems with it. Hope this helps. I know if I gave my mom a Rom , I likely would choose this for her. This way he won't be burdened with problems or battery drain .I think this is the best choice. Best wishes .

I think it is opposite. Gb is easier than Ics..also as CM7...If you install CM7 you can install launcherpro or other launcher, and resize big icons on your preferances. i think that ics has much "rigid" interface than cm7.
ics has incorporated those bloatware "beasts" like tweeter, facebook chat,gtalk...etc. etc...so you should think to remove them from rom before installation.just to avoid sporadic popups and notifications that could confuse him...CM7 does not have it. (and it is noot needed to have).
I recommend Hypersensation CM7 .
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that a stock looking Sense Rom like ARHD would be suitable for elders. Sense widgets are pretty user friendly, setup a coupe of home screens (not the default 7). I think that would work. That's whhat I would do if I had to give an android phone to my parents.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk 2
If you are going the MIUI route, gb/ics/jb are practically all similar. From my experience ICS had over 20hour battery where GB had like 12hour so you might want to look into that as well.
I'd go back to stock or install hypermiui (by far the most battery efficient)

PowerAMP with Beats Audio, and Google Maps Navigation, JB overall is awesome as well, but stock AT&T Rom is kind of disappointing, that's why I rooted
The only thing that's strange is Google Voice comes up with an error message when setting it up but still seems to work, it says my Voice Mail service is "My Carrier" instead of "Google Voice" no matter what Rom I am on, this did not happen on my Inspire 4G

I bet most people are, it has a lot of tweaks, more tweaks then any Rom I ever tried on DHD, well I tried ViperDHD but it was a little slow, but I can see why, Its not as powerful as the One X, Viper XL runs so smooth and stable though, I didn't used to like sense to much but Sense 4+ is really nice, I wonder what Sense 5 would be like

I normally wouldn't participate in such a thread to say just one word really so I'll write the rambling run on sentence to validate replying to myself but really other then the hella cool people that make up this one xl forum and don't chastise me for being "different" and holding the utmost patience with my some times pretty messed up mental state I would have to say that my favorite is the screen.

I like the camera and its such s huge step up from my HTC EVO design. Which has a dead forum. This phone is amazing and has such great dev support.

The active community for this phone and (this is more Android/CM in general) how incredibly open the platform is compared to other options..
I also like the way they removed the search button and added the recent apps/menu button, it's a lot more stylish!

KingBeatZ audio mod with stock Beats. When I get a new phone eventually, more than likely I'll keep this phone and use it basically as an iPod because music just sounds fantastic. And ViperXL 3.2.1 is just pure amazing, but everyone knows that by now. And don't even get me started on the screen.
Dislike? No expandable storage or removable battery. Also, 1 gig of RAM isn't a whole lot.
I have always been a big fan of sense but sense 4+ running on viperxl is just amazing. Its mostly the flip clock that I like. The time, date, and weather are all there in a very neat readily accessible place on the home screen.. Battery life is excellent about 20hrs for me. And the camera and screen are about the best I have seen on any phone in its class. I had just bought a camera before I bought my phone but now that I have my phone my camera stays in its case. Hadn't used it in about 6months now.
I would say that there isn't much about this phone that I dislike, except maybe the lack of removable storage. I don't have a whole lot of big file such as music on my phone so 10 gigs is plenty for me. Also I've heard that with removable storage its easier to attain s-off

It's the not the removable batt that bothers me it's that I know they could stick a lot bigger battery in here if they really wanted ...
