Tiamat Moray 2.2 USB Host problems...[HELP!] - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i recieved mini usb to usb cable for xoom and i tryied to connect an OCZ 8gb flash drive but no result my xoom doesn't recognize it the light on the OCZ didn't light up.
I thought that moray has usb support right? What am i doing wrong? :/
I even installed USB Mass Storage Watcher OTG but the problem is still there...
P.S The cable that im using is this one here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...0342463&category=123422&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619

There seem to be many problems with so-called OTG-cables on ebay... No one knows if they really are OTG-cables or just plain MicroUSB-to-USB-Adaptors...
I bought the original Moto Camera-Cable here
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004VMI5CI/ref=oss_product
It works like it should, I can connect my USB-Stick, external HD, MP3-Player... You name it.

Did you try one of the free apps on the markeet that can help you mount your drive? Look for USB Watcher OTG and Drive Mount.

The problem just in the cable, I also recently received a similar, and he also did not work. I remake it and now it works fine.

Look at the picture, you need to connect 4 and 5 contacts in the micro-usb connector,
you tablet have usb-host support, tiamat mounts usb-otg automaticaly, no need any program, or modification of tablet.
Your problem in usb-host cable from ebay, you can remake it, or buy a new original cable.

[Q]MY OTG cable isn't doing anything

I bought an OTG cable, but it doesn't seem to work, as no device (no drive, mouse, keyboard,... gets powered.) My Xoom is rooted to 3.1 with the 1.4.3 Tiamat kernel.
Can someone help me make it work?
Probably the wrong cable.
Its the wrong cable. i have 3 types of supposed OTG cables and the only one that worked for me was the one from nokia N8. the other cables where just adapters.
Help request: host mode
Xoom: US Wifi only
Honeycomb version: 3.1
Kernel: Tiamat 1.4.3 (formerly 1.4.2)
Busybox: version 1.19.0
I have been trying, without success to connect my USB drive, camera, and phone (rooted Incredible running CM7) to my Xoom using a host cable. First unsuccessful trials were with a host cable that I made following a thread in the development section. I subsequently purchased a Motorola camera connection cable, thinking that I had screwed up the fabrication of the host cable, but results are the same. Note that I am plugging the host cable into the Xoom.
If I open a terminal on my Xoom and type: CD /dev/block then enter "ls", I can see SDA, SDA1, SDA2 which I believe are my external devices.
When I plug in my Incredible, it recognizes the USB connection, but from the Xoom end there is nothing.
But if I try to mount any of these devices with this command: "busybox mount /dev/block/sda1 /mnt/usbOTG" I get this error : "mounting dev/block/sda1 on /mnt/usbOTG failed: No such file or directory"
Any suggestions regarding what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.
Erm, I bought a cable that was posted in this thread (the Meritline one), and seeing as it was suggested here at xda, I thought it would be trustworthy, apparently not.
Edit: crap, it doesn't have OTG, just like you guys said. What a waste of my money! Any of you guys know where preferably Europe to buy a WORKING cable? Also, is there anything else I can use this cable for?

Yeah, did the same thing. Pretty irritated with the OP of that thread for putting that up there like he knew what he was talking about. He still hasn't updated the thread so other people who don't scroll down the four pages to my post are probably still wasting their time...
Dude, go into Best Buy and buy an OTG cable for $20 bucks. I did that and I haven't had any issues. I also purchased another one that I'm giving away to an XDA member (already claimed) that should be on it's way.
Remember: Cheap is expensive in the end.

Add a connection between pins 4 and 5 on the micro plug and you have your OTG cable.
so, mine connects and the light on my flash drive turns on, but I don't know where to go to access the files? Help?

Agreed. Sometimes it pays to stay legit, even if you have to pay extra. No issues at all with the Moto OTG cable here also.

Does the Xoom support portable USB hard drives?

I've been searching all over and I cant find a definitive answer on this.
I have a Toshiba portable USB hard drive that gets its power from the USB connector (it does not have a separate power supply).
Can I hook this up to my Xoom and watch movies/tv shows from it? Does the Xoom support USB hard drives or thumb drives at all?
Sorry in advance if this has already been answered.
Thanks
Yes but you need a USB OTG cable. Not sure if the Xoom will power an external hard drive that runs off of USB only though, you might need to get one if those cables that splits off for power.
I can't get anything to work, even with a USB OTG cable, and I have 3.2 installed.
When I bought the cable it said this ...
This adapter allows you to plug a USB memory stick pen drive so you can play music, videos, backup & transfer files and view photos.

The Motorola forum says it can't be done, yet.
Others say you need to root the phone.
I'm sure you need to unlock and install tiamat rom I think?
I'm new to these forums as of today,
But i've read around the forums, and it seems to me that 3.2 doesn't support USBhost, and therefore PENdrives/USBHDD's cannot be used.
As Kippui stated, you will need to use a custom ROM with USBhost support, before you will be able to use the HDD at the very least

If it has no separate power supply then no, the xoom doesn't put out enough power

Not true about the newer Passports, for example. I have a 1st generation 250GB Passport that can only work if I use a powered hub, but my brand new USB3 650GB Passport works fine and is fully powered by the Xoom.
Please note, I am unlocked, rooted, and running a custom Rom/kernel that supports USB Host Mode.
Stock Honeycomb does not support USBOTG/host mode.
xoom 2 support usb otg with stock firmware
I would go on eBay and buy an Angled USB OTG cable. I got two of them on their for around $7-$8. It's better because you don't have a wire sticking out of your tablet.
I'm paranoid on breaking my ports.

[Q] USB OTG Support?

I've searched everywhere online and i'm getting conflicting results, so I was wondering if anyone who has one can confirm if the idol 3 5.5" has USB Host or On-The-Go (OTG) capabilities. Thank you very much.
Yes!
I'll confirm 100% I have used the following SUCCESSFULLY:
- 3 port OTG cable with TWO USB thumb drives plugged in, one USB3 64GB and one USB2 8GB
- 1 port OTG cable with ONE USB super nintendo controller
- 1 port OTG cable with generic USB 2.0 SDR receiver for Radio tuning (scanner capabilities confirmed)
I hope this helps!
I think every phone with kernel version 3 and up has OTG support... Correct me if I'm wrong

Mmmh software talking, I do think so. But hardware talking, it's not always the case. My current phone as kernel 3.4.67 which can theorically support OTG but hardware is not compatible, so I can't use OTG at all :/
Awesome! Thanks!
I have an OTG cable but don't know how to work with on my alcatel one idol 3, could you help me out?

Usually, phone mounts the USB storage automatically and display a pop-up window.
If not, Go to Settings > Storage > Mount USB Storage
I tried otg also, in 9 of 10 cases, phone reject usb, in one case connections was achieved, and i can copy files from usb. But, even in that case, after some time, connection brakes. Annoying. This phone definitely support otg, but something doesnt work well.

Samsung T3

The Samsung T3 external SSD is USB type C and is extremely fast. Using the stock cord that came with my phone I can make a twrp backup faster than to the internal storage.
Anyone else use one?

That's because your phone has to read and write from flash at the same time. My OTG cable and USB 3.0 drive i've had for 2 years os still faster than backing up internally also. But I agree, the T3 would probably super tots.
The T3 is also very fast with the computer. Transfers 5gb in seconds

I've tried hooking up my otg micro USB cable with flash drive. But 6p isn't reading. I figured it can't transmit data micro USB style. Is that why its not reading it? Have you tried that @Gytole?

I used micro usb otg cable, then micro USB to type c adapter, into 6p. Im saying I used a type c adapter and I think that's why it wasn't connecting to the flash drive but either way whatever happened it was not connecting and I tried numerous times I even tried apps like stickmount
Whether the nexus 6p works with exfat or NTFS formatted drive
Please confirm
3rd party app will mount exFAT-formatted T3

I just took another pass at getting my 6P to work with my exFAT-formatted T3, and this time around (Android 7.1.2) saw multiple paths to success.
Firstly, this time, when I plugged in my device, the system presented a notification, which led to a dialog asking if I wanted to "format the device for mobile data storage" – which would have meant reformatting to FAT32. Not what I wanted, but pretty cool that it was an option and I didn't have to go digging.
Secondly, a quick googling turned up a third-party app that will mount exFAT volumes. It's called Paragon exFAT/NTSF (I don't have permission to post urls here yet). I had to pay $5 for exFAT support, and it wanted Total Commander (free) to browse and operate on the files.

Otg support?

Hello all.
Just bought an otg but doesn't seems to work.
Also used the second otg I bought in case the one came out dead.
Does anyone had any similar problems?
My phone has Oreo out of the box.

Problem solved
Otg is supported pnly with the original adapter.
sorry for necroposting, but i have an otg cable and the original adapter, but the phone isnt recognizing the usb device at all. i have tried channging the usb connection options to MTP, PTP etc etc
You should not have to do anything to get OTG going. In particular you should not have to change USB connection type from developer settings manually, that should happen automatically depending on what device you connect.
The only catch is that you need a decent OTG cable, which has all the correct pins in it. Using a microUSB OTG cable + an microUSB to USB-C adapter for example will NOT work (not unless the microUSB adapter has the OTG pins, which is really unlikely).
I'm using this Anker OTG cable and it works perfectly, first try. So far I've tried external storage devices (card reader, stick, even a 2.5" HDD enclosure), keyboard, mouse, and a MIDI keyboard.
If you need an app for accessing USB storage files I can recommend either USB Media Explorer, or the USB OTG plugin for Solid Explorer.

thanks man. ill give that a try. i was trying to look at some files on a flash drive while at work as the systems we use (and im currently using) dont allow external drives to be accessed on our desktop systems, i can thank citrix cor that. Ill give that a shot when i get home just to future proof myself. Also, i see your location as Transylvania. Ive visited there a couple times and it was freaking awesome!!!! Ive even learned how to make my own mici and smuggled some mustar clasic back home too! My fiance was raised in Piatra Neamt and she gave me the thumbs up on my mici
Good to know, making your own mici is a skill that will take you far in life.
