I had my cracked screen replaced not too long ago from a guy online and he did a great job of it. Problem is my volume rocker fell out. He said he'd fix it, but I'd have to be without my phone for quite a while and that's a drag. It's also been a while since this happened and I'm afraid too much time has now passed to send it in.
Nothing appears to be broken on either the phone or the volume rocker, so I'm wondering if there is a relatively simple fix for this. Obviously I could just glue it, but I don't want to do that in case I break my screen again (you never know...).
Anyone have any ideas?
got any pictures?
Not terribly uncommon. If you bought it from a tmo store just call and see if they have a case to swap.

I don't think it can be out of warranty. It hasn't even been a year since it was released.

I think the warranty only lasts a month or so. It's been a lot longer than that.

It has a one year warranty. I bought mine on Craiglist, the volume rocker fell out, I called HTC and got it replaced through the warranty department.

oh, nice! So I should make it an HTC thing and not a TMO thing?
My volume rocker fell out about a month after I got this phone. I was playing angry birds and it just came out. I called HTC and they sent me a replacement back cover. Been using the new back now for a bit over a month and so far so good. Now if I can only figure out how to fix the power button issue of double clicking on occasion to wake the phone up and turn it off after the 2.3.4 update......

Right, HTC would be the ones to hit up for a new back cover...they are really good about that stuff too ( i had problems with my MT4G memory card and had to call them). Tmobile does not have them, that's why warranty phones don't ever come with a back cover or battery

The volume rocker button is a known issue with HTC. I called today and gave me the number 1-888-356-2375 to replace the back cover. It is covered under HTC 1year warranty.
Mine fell out today.
Along with the 'stuck pixels' and crappy battery life, I cant wait to upgrade. It's too bad because i really like the phone overall.
It's not part of t-mobile's warranty (just the main device is) but if the store has any returned they can trade you. Otherwise, yeah, HTC will send you one if you don't mind the wait.
They're also supposed to be releasing a software update for the power-button issues.
Mine fell out as well today. I was going to ask if instead of sending me the black and grey housing, if I can get the aluminum one. Or aluminum "looking" one. I will post my results!
I also recently heard of a battery upgrade? instead of the original 1520 mah there is now the 1950 mah? Maybe with a little kicking and screaming about the volume rocker falling out and me having to have the new housing re-ghost armored + crappy battery life "even with custom rom and kernel" 6-7 hours if im lucky, they can throw it in. I do have a gift when it comes to being a barterer :-D
My volume rocker just fell out today! So I will be contacting HTC soon!!

When removing the battery cover, I somehow damaged it. Will that prevent me from returning this phone?
Took me nearly 2 hours to get the battery cover off, required so much strength that I broke off a tiny piece where your thumbnail is supposed to go.
I doubt it man, when I returned my Atrix to get the Inspire the ATT rep barely even looked at the phone, he just wanted to make sure all the parts where there.
Im assuming you mean return it within 30 days correct?

Yeah, I've had the phone for about 2 days and it's already pissing me off. I just hope HTC's idiocy hasn't screwed me over with this battery door.
Those pieces are a dime a dozen. The 2 little tabs on the bottom are like hinges. Put them in place, and snap it shut.very easy.
If you hate htc so much why did you buy it in the firstplace? Also I think it is your idiocy, not htc

i had a hell of a time trying to open it with the little cut back nubbin. i put my fingernails right behind the volume rocker and find it to be much easier.
if you tell them that you're taking it back BECAUSE of how hard the battery cover was to get off i don't think you'll have any trouble.
Just posting in case anyone else was wondering, they took it back without question. I hope noone else has the problems that my inspire had, I think it could be a great phone just mine was having a lot of problems.
Is anyone having a problem with the screen, well the phone, clicking when you touch the corners? Over the past few days it seems like the actual phone and back cover are not connected tightly resulting in a click sound and feel when typing on the keyboard. I have tried to re-seat the back cover with no luck. I am going to try and get an exchange today but the whole design around a uni body phone worries me long term.
I've posted the same thing and you're not alone. What you can do is put a paper inside the case and it'd resolve your problem for now

check out my 1st and 2nd post in this thread just called T-Mobile and they're overnighting my phone, I love this phone but this is the first phone I had to exchange twice
Mcp,
Unfortunately I have to go threw hell to get mine replaced since my wife is an employee.
Bad vibrations... lol
I noticed on mine the vibration is very mild compared to say the MyTouch 4G.

I have it to, actually dont know if I should take it so seriously.
Yhe it clicks a little but nothing serious.
Yup, my one day old sensation also clicks and make that noise when I press on the bottom right of the screen, just like yours. Also, the capacitive buttons are unevenly lit. This is my second unit, and I am very disappointed. I returned the first one because of a wacky battery. Build quality on that one was perfect. I might return this unit also.
Any other folks with the same issue?

Got the same problem.
Tomorrow i am gonna switch back covers and see if it is the issue.
I think when you take the back cover of to many times the right side will show this problem.
Greetz.
Happens to my phone as well only if I press the right point. That sounds come from the battery. Pull the backcover and press on the battery then you'll hear some clicks. But I couldn't figure out how to solve that. Even putting paper didn't help.
Ive been having problems with my back button for a while now and with some experiences on my previous phones,i tried dismantling it with the help of Youtube.i never had problems doing this kind of stuff before but this time i messed up badly! It doest turn on anymore,i accidently cut the strip on the on/off button that connects to wherever its getting power.now i just have a big good looking paper weight.
My back button just stock in the down position yesterday. I have a replacement on its way from Tmobile. Hoping I don't get a bad screen.

Since you live in LA, you shouldn't have a problem getting rid of it on craigslist. Sell it for at least $130 and consider it a free upgrade One time, I bought a bricked HD2 for $150, spent a half hour diagnosing the problem and fixing it, then flipped for $275. Easy money
So if I report my (not broken) mt4g stolen, I can get a sensation for $150!? Hmm....doesn't matter since im looking at the g-nexus.

I just did this EXACT same thing over the weekend.
My MT4G had dust caked into the front camera. I figured "No biggie. It' probably missing a seal. I'll crack it open, clean out the dust, and tack a tiny o ring in there to keep the dust out."
I followed the YouTube guide. I was SUPER careful because I saw how delicate everything was.
Putting a o ring on the camera was ridiculously easy. But when putting the phone back together I noticed that there was a wire dangling loose next to the power button. I was like "Ooooooohhhhhhh fudge." Only I didn't say fudge.
On the plus side, once the phone was back together it'll keep dust out of that camera until doomsday! That part worked. It just won't turn on....
Anyway I took the phone back to the store where I just bought it in August and said "This doesn't turn on."
The guy at T Mobile store looked at it, fiddled with it a bit, gave up and processed me for an even exchange at no cost. The new one is on it's way and should be delivered to my house tomorrow. They didn't even charge me for shipping. Couldn't have been easier. The customer service was absolutely top notch.
And I don't even have the insurance.
The guy at the store didn't even care that the little VOID stick was gone from the one screw under the batter cover. He even looked for it specifically.
Lol wow

I recently got a gs4g and I've noticed two things, 1. there's a ray of light that bleeds from the home button and 2. the menu button likes to press itself once in a while.
I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems and what their experience was like doing a return through tmo or samsung. Apparently tmo wants me to pay shipping, they won't send me a replacement first (even if I temporarily pay full price), and it will take 3 to 4 weeks. Samsung will pay for shipping, but they take just as long, don't guarantee anything, and at best send me a refurb back (no replacements).
These 2 problems are surprisingly minor in terms of usability (especially the menu button thing), so I've just kept the phone and it hasn't really pissed me off too much yet. What do you think I should do?
BTW this phone is out of the 20 day return period, I noticed the menu thing on like day 22.

Take that thing back to the TMOB store and tell them you want a new one. When they tell you that it's passed the grace period start to get a little loud. Keep getting louder until they either replace it for you or you are asked to leave by a security guard.
I was under the impression that the stores are separate entities from online sales with different prices and procedures. Has anyone taken a phone back to the store that was bought online? I have a feeling they'd tell me they couldn't do anything and to ship it back.
Check that it is a "company store" and not a franchise.

"T-Mobile Store" is what you are looking for, not a "T-Mobile Preferred Retailer"
I just got an exchange from tmobile and have the exact same issue with the light pertruding from home button, I don't have issue with menu button though. I noticed this on day one. But another issue I received with phone is if i shake or tap the phone I can feel the vibrator (its very faint but I can feel it) I even checked my old device to see if it did the same or if I was just crazy, and wouldn't you know it did not do it. I called tmobile and told them about it and of course got disconnected in middle of conversation, so rather than going through the issue with another rep (annoying) I am just dealing with it. Was thinking it was a bad lcd or could maybe cause it to fail prematurely that's why I called. Now that I see someone else has same light issue I think I'm gonna call them back

Yeah I think mine has that vibrator issue too, but I thought it was just natural vibration since the thing is so thin. That really doesn't bother me at all. It's amazing how benign these problems are, but I'd at least like to get that menu button fixed if it wasn't such a hassle.
I too have the home button light issue but not the menu button issue. And I can also feel it vibrate when I tap it a little. It never bothered me so I left it alone. I've had the phone for over a year and a half already and nothing seems to be malfunctioning.

Not so cool actually. For reasons like this plus lower supply = higher prices and lower community support, so be sure to thank the ROM devs every chance you get
Follow up: So I sent the phone back to Samsung for repairs. I told the guy on the phone about the menu button problem in great detail and he sent me an email with return info etc. I receive an email a few days after they receive it that basically says they ran some standard tests and couldn't determine that anything is wrong with it so please provide them more info. It didn't say how to provide them with more info so I just replied to the email with a very detailed description of how to reproduce the problem (basically just leave the phone on the table with the screen on). They send me back the phone, un-repaired, with a note about how nothing is wrong with it.
Moral of the story: Do not buy any Samsung product without also buying an extended warranty from the retailer. Samsung does not honor their warranty when it comes to intermittent problems that are not immediately reproducable.
Hello Peeps,
Have any of you noticed that your power button is loose or wiggly?
I just noticed it on mine, my phone is only two weeks old and I just noticed this issue.
I am pretty bummed about it cause I just achieved root on it.
I suppose if I were to try to take it back, they would not exchange it because of it being rooted.
Any thoughts on this?
The power button is working just fine, I just do not like that it is so loose.
I did a google search and I see that some other people have reported the same issue.
Thank you,

Ya I think it is a pretty common problem but as long as it does not fall out then you are fine it's just one of those "build quality" issues that Samsung seems to have on all of their phones... Gotta LOVE plastic...
Yeah its just a poorly designed button to begin with. More of it "hangs out" of the case in the back than in the front, which makes it easy to apply too much pressure to certain areas. I definitely see how snapping it off could be a very easy thing to do, so my best suggestion would be to get a case or something. If you're that worried about losing it, you could always ODIN your phone back to stock and take it back to Verizon.
