[Q] I posted the ICECREAMSANDWICH video and now my phone is locked - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What do I do now?

Please explain, locked?
Turn it off if you can. If it's being wiped yank the battery out.

Use adb to install cwr. Then boot back into recovery and make a nandroid backup. Then share it!

how would I know if it's being wiped?
I'm guessing it would be if Google found out abou it. Or if the phone was stolen.

If you can't do anything they are probably trying to. TRY TO TURN IT OFF!
After you turn it off (by any means necessary including yanking the battery), follow the tutorial for rooting you phone then make a nandroid backup of what you have using CWM then mount your phone via USB and upload the back up.
After making a back up you may be able to safely wipe your cache and data. It could provide you with a working phone and provide the rest of us with a nice treat!

ok, battery is out.
i'm guessing the lock will not interfere with rooting my phone?
even if i was able to root it, is my phone unuseable now because it's flagged or something?

Not necessarily, It probably is but I don't know how google's software works. If I had to guess you could probably get it working again by wiping data and cache.
Be sure to remove your sim card as well.

idk, never experienced it before. I just assume it's what happens when you lose a phone and then remotely secure it so it can't be accessed.

Google has the ability to force ota to your phone and remote wipe
OP, if your phone works on T-Mobile 3G (not edge) follow this guide up until this point
select Recovery
then it should boot into this screen, if not then repeat the steps to download the image
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

at this point instead of installing a rooted rom go to back up and restore then select Backup.
wait for it to finish then connect your phone to your computer via usb then go back to the main menu and select Mounts and Storage then select mount USB storage.
search for a folder called clockworkmod on your computer and make it into a zip file. If you're awesome then you could upload it to mediafire and post the link.
Next select unmount after copying to your pc then go back to the main menu. Select wipe data/factory reset then select wipe cache partition. The phone is now factory reset and COULD boot.

He should remove sim card and turn off wifi until its backed up.

try reinstalling them through the pdanet website http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
download the free version to your desktop and install, then follow the onscreen instructions. itll install the proper drivers for your phone. its possible that it wont recognize your phone though. also, did you try reformatting the phones storage? and you never answered, can you still boot into recovery?

wauw,your info was really useful.
maybe you should consider RE thinking the meaning of bricked.
you call an electronic a Brick when it's useless and cant do the things it supposed to do.
that it can turn on and show letters, doesn't exclude it from the definition bricked.
and my nexus S was useless until repairs. so yes it was a brick.
i might not have as many posts as you do. but that doesn't conclude on what level of knowledge i am. so dont even try to say im totally wrong.
next time.contribute. not the opposite.
and if you cant contribute, than dont even post irrelevant things at all.

In the strictest sense of the term, bricking must imply that software error has rendered the device completely unrecoverable without some hardware replacement.
We at XDA like to take our definitions very seriously. You had a softbrick
brick/softbrick.. it just doesnt matter because its all relative to the moment the thread was started. to the op, it was a brick when he started the thread. it later became known that the phone was softbricked, only after fixing it. whats important is that the op fixed his phone, everything else is just semantics and irrelevant. well, its irrelevant unless now this thread turned into a "define bricked" thread. then its relevant and to the point
(btw, sorry. i wasnt meaning to be an ass if i sounded like one. im just feeling a little rambunctious )

at-least some one that doesn't think he's Almighty and knowing.
and being an ass about it.
and what simms22 just said.
in the start of the thread.i thought it was bricked.
but we managed to get it fixed.
though USB not working(yes the USB component of the main board)
does imply bricked. cuz it did need a replacement(though i fiddled with it and got it to work.)thats why i edited my first post.
it was part bricked, part soft bricked.
No one is implying that they are all mighty and know-it-all. We're simply saying that every time someone messes up their phone and don't know how to fix it they call it "bricked". Almost every day we see a post about a bricked phone and 99 % of them turn out to be just another newbie trying to root the device or some other mistake.

[Q] G2x stucked in the booting screen! (After installing CyanogenMod)

Hey guys - I'm sorry for my really bad english and i'm - almost - an android noob.
Until today i hadn't made any modification on my phone (not even rooting, just installing apps and launchers).
Today i tried to root it, and completely worked it out. After this i tried to install the CyanogenMod 7. It seemed like was gonna work, but when it was "rebooting", it stucked in the booting screen and i don't know what to do now
I already tried to do everything that is in this thread: How to unbrick your G2x from GB update through LG, but it didn't work.
The phone just back to the way it was before.
Just a pic to you guys know what i'm talking about:

I had that same problem the first time I did used CM7. What I did was I went back into recovery, wiped everything. Format, wipe cache, and wipe Dalvik. Then did it all over again. It worked the second time. If it doesn't work, look for another rom and see if it works. If not, unroot and stay that way. Every phone, despite being made the same, doesn't function the same.

-phone showing empty folder when connected to PC
-wipe cache partition via stock recovery
What he did ? he just restarted his phone via stock recovery. i dunno why. Any help appreaciated. TIA.
Flash stock cache.img and if that doesn't work, flash all stock images. All data will be lost.

Flash the factory image and try again. If it's still not there the EFS partition is borked and the phone is dead (can't be fixed as the EFS is specific to each device)

This is his stock recovery. You sure losing the data and unlocking and flashing factory image will fix the issue ?
Can't be sure it will fix it. As @EddyOS stated,.if EFS is corrupt, then there is no come back. Its unlikely without root to be corrupt - but not unfeasible.
There's no way to get the phone working without sacrificing the data unfortunately.

When I say the data is gone, its not actually gone. Its there. But there is no way to get it back. No way to get it off without root / custom recovery - which wipes the data
All the known recovery options I listed in my recovery thread but as you'll see, none are applicable

If he was on stock and never root or unlocked bl then it is better to send it back to RMA

Deleted OS

Hey guys hope you can help with my oneplus 7 pro. So I did not backup before rooting the device, however, I was able to successfully root it. The problem arose when I wanted to take the twrp official 3.3.1-2 and upgraded to 3.3.1-29 version. I flashed it on the system image in the twrp setting, but it ended up writing over OS. Now there is no OS on the oneplus 7 pro. Do you guys have a suggestion into how I can fix this problem? and bring it back into the rooted phone. I also was hoping if you guys know anyway to lock the twrp with a password in the future? thank you
1] Your TWRP should already have had a pin if you had set a pin (same one) when using the rom
2] Can you still boot into TWRP as recovery? If so then go grab the latest 9.5.7 :
Official : https://otafsg1.h2os.com/patch/amaz...ygen_21.E.11_OTA_011_all_1906040003_25c96.zip
My mirror on AFH : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117889610
You should be able to flash it using TWRP if you've not messed up too badly, then you may be back to default rom and can start again.
If you get that far then read the guide on the @mauronofrio TWRP properly and flash everything again. I've also uploaded a rooted 9.5.7 boot image here if you want to try that way instead :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79678478&postcount=522
If the worst comes to the worst then you may be able to boot into fastboot then run :
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-29-guacamole.img
Boot into TWRP and try sideloading the whole 9.5.7 rom instead

You could always download one of the fastboot ROMs and flash them again. You're obviously unlocked etc so all you'd need to do is fastboot flash system system.img. just make sure it's the same version.
ok since the update I was able to get the twrp installed again, but choose a wrong option in the reboot menu, something to do with edl, now the phone turn on at all :/
I give up, apparently people just can't follow instructions.

just get out of EDL, either hold down the power button or hold - and Power for like 10 seconds until u boot out of it
Ok so I basically pressed the volume and down buttom with the power button, then the phone recovered back to the when I first got it and it got uprooted. Anyway, the whole reason I was wanted to root the phone was so that I can lock the TWRP with a password. This would only give me access to hard resetting the phone. Do any of you guys have a solution to this? its a phone for my little brother, and I want to restrict his access to the internet, but he knows how to hard reset the phone using the volume down and power. however, if I can lock the TWRP with a password he cant get around that part as easily.

You might be able to do that with a guest account but you can't lockout TWRP with a password, it will use the pin applied to the phone. If you set it up as the default user with a pin then that's the pin that will be applied to TWRP so I would look at setting him up as a guest instead which should keep him out of TWRP too.

A way to stop android 12 update after it was downloaded?

Hi, i got samsung tab s7 and it auto downloaded the update to android 12 and now it says that I can postpone it 9nly 3 times. Is there a way to get rid of it? I wouldn't be able to use the color calibrator app once it will get the update, which makes the tablet pretty useless for me. Thanks
Clear the system cache... I never tried it but was told that would clear it.

It's on the boot menu. Not sure for that device.
It can be a little tricky if you don't get the timing and button sequence right.
It would have been better to force power off the phone before it completed the download. Perhaps using ADB editing you could kill it. Not sure if disabling OTA updates now would stop it but that be worth a shot.
If it updates you may be able to flash it back to 11 if it doesn't upgrade the boot loader too.
You may want to see if someone has a better, more detailed plan. I always keep OTA updates package blocked. Package Disabler can be used to kill updates, that might be the easiest way.

Thank you vm. Ckearing cache didnt work, theres still a scheduled update. I thought to try and reset the tablet (its still running android 11) and not to connect it to the wifi before ill disable the auto software updates in the settings. You think it might work or is it possible that after ill reset it, it will upgrade itself?
Btw, are there any drawbacks if ill flash it back to android 11? (security-wise, warranty-wise etc')

Sorry that didn't work.
Try disabling the update app itself.
You can roll back to 11 as long as it doesn't update the bootloader to a new version.
No warranty implications unless you root it.
Security isn't an issue. I'm running on Pie.

What do you mean by disabling the app itself? What app?
How can i tell if it uploaded the bootloader?
Will i still have all the samsung features and apps?
Can you refer me to a reliable guide for downgrading?
Sorry for all the questions, thank you

My previous post shows the app in it com.wys... whatever. Install package disabler and see if that can kill the install. It probably can.
If you end up on 12... deal with that then.
I recommend you do everything you can to keep it from installing... tick-tock Mr. Wick, no time to dilly dally.

I ended up doing a factory reset. I didn't connect it to wifi at first and disabled auto update in the setting. So far it seems to work. Thank you

You're welcome.
Yay. Glad you were about to kill it.
Thank you for that information about the cache fix being invalid.
