A question... - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I update my Windows Phone 7 through a Zune Software as a Guest account? Will it be safe? Apart from the Music and Pictures, what else won't be backed up?
SMS, Contacts, Emails?
in the first place, will my data be ERASED if I update??

Contacts backup and transfering

I have finally catched some time and esited my contact list, so now ALL my contacts have adress, picture, mail, all numbers an so on...
For now I have backuped them on Microsoft MyPhone so that when I flash any rom can easily sync them back to my Diamond.
But question is,how to transfer all those contacts to android platform(so that all pics, adreses and other are still there)??
Anybody?
Not sure if it will work as I have never had the need to try but would creating a Google account and setting up synch with that do the job?
I have google account for a long time
But how to sync it with mine contacts?
OK, its another hoop to jump through but I am fairly certain that Seven offers the option to synch calendar/mail/contacts with WM and Android devices and a Google account. My PIM data is all held on an Exchange system so I have never used the contact side of Seven.

Restore contacts?

Hey there.
Well I uninstalled Microsoft Office, in the hope of upgrading to the latest Office 2010 beta. However my computer's facing issues with office. This weekend I shall be doing a reinstallation of Windows and then get everything back to normal.
A problem has arisen however, relating to my HD2. Since Windows Mobile Device Center was configured to synchronise my contacts, appointments, tasks, etc. The lack of Outlook on my system has caused it to clear out everything, leaving my phone with 0 contacts, 0 appointments.
I thought the way I could restore all these would be to synch with Microsoft MyPhone. So I did so, and well, the sync log has told me it's just removed my contacts and appointments from MyPhone now too.
The MyPhone website is currrently down, so I can't go on to see if there's anything I can do there.
So, my question to you is, how can I get my data back? I presume Outlook would've stored them somewhere.
And how can I prevent this happening in the future?
Thanks,
RJackson.
Edit
MyPhone doesn't delete things, it just archives them. I my data back by going through "Archive" and restoring them. Microsoft MyPhone was down for maintenance when I made this thread, so I was not aware of this.
Can't help with recovering but PIM Backup will help in future, especially if you set it to do a scheduled backup overnight.

Accidentally deleted ALL contacts, appointments, etc. Recoverable??? Help...

I'm screwed, I can't believe this happened. I reformatted my PC. Installed fresh and clean version of Outlook. Installed MS ActiveSync. The very FIRST thing I did was set the ActiveSync options to have the PHONE replace OUTLOOK, thinking this will put all my contacts, calendar appointments, etc back in outlook. For some unexplained reason, that setting was ignored, and when I synced it, it deleted everything from my phone. A years+ worth of information I can't get back. So my question is:
Is there any way to recover all my lost phone numbers, appointments, etc? Or am I really SOL? I'm praying perhaps there's some file recoverable file on the phone or... I don't know. Help!
Did you ever make any backups, like w/ Sprite or SPB or PIMBackup (or myphone or Windows Live)? If not, you're probably SOL. You really need some failsafes; one backup isn't enough for important data.
Sadly no, i didn't, i was stupid enough to think outlook was my backup of the phone, or the phone was a backup of outlook... Stupid programs ended up erasing each other...
Well, maybe try poking around the active sync folder on your pc; i guess it could've backed up your contacts on your phone before it deleted them (c:\program files\microsoft active sync, or something like that).

Gah! Deleted my Gmail Inbox! How to recover emails on Android?

Hi all...
So I accidentally deleted all the emails in my GMail inbox. However, I don't have my phone set to sync automatically to GMail, so many of those emails are still there.
Does anyone know I can export the emails in the Gmail app on my phone to my PC, or do a forced one-way sync to Gmail from the phone? It seems like Android doesn't allow access to these emails other than through the app, and there is no export function, and sync is always 2-way.
It *looks* like the Android Gmail app is a sealed box - no way to export/import, no way to copy emails it stores, etc. Is this the case?

Wouldn't they be in the trash folder?

Click to collapse
Nope, I permanently deleted them - i.e. deleted them, then deleted them from the trash.

[Q] HTC Surround WP7 how to copy contacts to sim card or pc

hi all I have a HTC Surround using WP7 version 7390. Can anyone tell me how to back up my contacts (phone numbers) to SIM card or to pc. I am planning to reset the phone and I do not want to lost them.
Thanks
As far as I know you can't copy to the sim. However you can sync your live account and then download the list of contacts from live.com so you can keep a backup.
You cannot copy to SIM, only from SIM.
That being said, the phone emphasizes the use of the cloud (Windows Live, Gmail, etc. etc.). Your contacts should be automatically syncing to the main Windows Live ID on your phone already. So when you reset, just use the same ID to sign in and the contacts will be restored.
Thank you very much I will try to syc it with my live account. I konow it keeps the email accounts but I am not sure it will keep the numbers anyway I will try it thank you again
Hi all,
I've a problem. Touch of my HD2 doesn't work and i have Wp7 on the phone.
I haven't a Live account, then my contacts are not syncronized in cloud.
Can i have back my contacts without using my phone?
P.s. Only the touch of HD2 doesn't work.
