Hi all...
So I accidentally deleted all the emails in my GMail inbox. However, I don't have my phone set to sync automatically to GMail, so many of those emails are still there.
Does anyone know I can export the emails in the Gmail app on my phone to my PC, or do a forced one-way sync to Gmail from the phone? It seems like Android doesn't allow access to these emails other than through the app, and there is no export function, and sync is always 2-way.
It *looks* like the Android Gmail app is a sealed box - no way to export/import, no way to copy emails it stores, etc. Is this the case?

Wouldn't they be in the trash folder?

Nope, I permanently deleted them - i.e. deleted them, then deleted them from the trash.

Hello,
I recently obtained a Samsung Captivate and synced my contacts (through the stock "sync" feature in Android) from my phone to Gmail. This worked very well, however after this initial sync, new contacts that I have added to my phone have not synced with Gmail. Help? Also, I don't know if this matters, but I use k-9 mail instead of the default Gmail app. However I have tried also having the default gmail account on and it doesn't seem to have helped
Anyone? It's getting to be a bit of a problem
I'm having a similar problem
I just got the Samsun Fascinate yesterday and I'm having the same problem. My contacts synced fine from google/gmail but when I added a new phone number into the phone yesterday it never synced up. I was able to add new accounts in the google/gmail and have those sync up on my phone.

When you create new contact are you ticking Google on the "save contact to" pop up?
good day.
Nope. I got that figured out now though. Thanks for the tip!
I think google broke something somewhere, since yesterday automatic sync in gmail got broken, not only for me but I've seen others having the same problem.
I am on the international version of the Galaxy S
I realize this is an old thread, but my problem is almost identical, so I don't want to clutter the board with a new thread...
Captivate. Stock. US.
My contacts have NEVER sync'ed upbound to Google account.
In Contacts>Menu>more>Accounts, sync IS turned on.
By the way, the Google account has NO contacts in it. And I don't need the arrangement to move contacts from google to phone, only from phone to google (as a back-up).
Am I missing some step to make it start syncing?
Here is another thought...all my contacts are in SIM; do they have to be in phone memory for sync to work?
Apologize for the bump here, but this problem remains...no sync from phone up to google--only the other way.
I enter new contacts (generally phone numbers and name only) on the phone--not 1st in gmail. So, I need for PHONE-ENTERED contacts to sync upbound to goggle, but it does not do it.
Is there an app that makes this work, or is it just a Samsung/ATT/google fail with no fix?
If the contact is not flagged as a google contact then there is no way to get it to sync to google. So to remedy that you need to delete all phone based contacts and reneter them as google contacts. Use the below steps.
From the main contact screen hit the menu key then select more then settings then save new contact and select google and all contacts will now be saved as google contacts and thus sync both ways.

Hmmmm...if you do this (make all contacts be "google" contacts, do they reside on your phone or only "up" at google. IOW what if you have no data net connection at all (phone or wifi), are your contacts still on your phone?
Have you tried logging in @ http://www.google.com/contacts? Export My Contacts to a local file in Outlook CSV format. Then use iCSV Address Book in Android market to import them from the local csv file.

I have no contacts at google--they are all on the phone...actually on the SIM; I want them to go up to google, thus your suggestion will not work (nothing at google TO export).

then try it the other way around. Export your contacts in your phone to a csv file then upload them from within google/contacts... did I say that right?
I need some help here...............
I am running stock mango. Phone wont sync all my contacts with any 1 client. Some are on Google, some on Facebook, and some yet on Live/Hotmail.
How do I push all of my contacts to one place for off phone storage?
Is there anyway to get all of my contacts to sync somewhere away from the phone in the event I lose my phone or all data is lost?
There must be something somewhere????
Btw, syncing contacts to Windows Live is a nightmare.
Now since you mentioned Google, I suggest you sync/backup your contacts there.
Settings, (system tab) e-mail+accounts, Google, check the box for Contacts
If you have others, uncheck Contacts in all other accounts.
Now go to Settings (applications tab) people, filter my contact list and choose whatever you like but make sure you uncheck "Windows Live".
Sync, and all your contacts should be backed in Gmail (check Contacts there from a PC).
Alternatively, if you can save your contact list as a .CSV file and import directly in Gmail (in your desktop's browser).
Thanks for the help!!
The only account that I have a checkbox for contacts in is Google, even windows live doesnt have a checkbox.
I went into setting>application>people>filter and unchecked windows live from sync and tried again, still wont load.
I have some of my contacts stored in Google, but not ALL of them!
How do I create a .csv file on my phone and export into google?
It's normal to see the checkbox only in Gmail.
Make sure on PC you check properly your Gmail account in Contacts, you should see "My Contacts" and "Imported MM/DD/YY" if you import them via CSV. Also, You might want to make sure the contacts from your SIM are on the phone (might be why you're missing some contacts).
Alternatively, you can edit your contacts yourself in Gmail.
This guide might prove very useful to you for transferring, importing, exporting contacts.
Still no dice. Cant find how to access my contacts via SIM since doing the Mango update.
This is getting frustrating. No one is having the same problem with the Arrive?
Import or Export ?
I am sorry but I am bit lost in the conversation.
What is that you want to do ?
Import Contacts in the Phone or Export Contacts from the Phone to somewhere else ?
I want my contacts exported somewhere, that way if my phone crashes or is lost I have all of my contacts stored offline somewhere safe.
WP7 says this is done automatically through Windows Live and Google......its not happening on my phone, only SOME contacts are stored in each

I've historically had the opposite experience. I think Gmail contacts & calendars are both pretty inconsistent, and my Live account has been 100x better to sync with. I even had issues on Android with Gmail contacts/calendar.
Still cant sync contacts or calendar with Gmail........any suggestions? I cant be the only one with this issue, can I?
Is there an App for Google yet on Mango?
I posted this elsewhere on the forums a moment ago and it relates to getting google contacts to sync with my Nokia Lumia 800.
I set it all up nicely and then found that none of my google phone numbers were synced. I had a similar experience with my old android phone (well the opposite problem actually)
I fixed this by highlighting all my contacts in google on a PC and making sure they were all in the "my contacts" group as that seems to be the only group that the phone will sync. Once done, all of my contacts were there.
Don't sync the google calendar so cant comment
enjoy!
when you sync your facebook what does it exactly do.
Does it just copy all your facebook contacts and put them in your phone contacts?
I know email sync does that because I did it and that and my gmail is unorganized so it made a mess on my phone contacts.
also does email sync delete your emails on your computer as well?
Because right now when I delete an email on the phone it is still on gmail.com
anything else I need to know? I have facebook and email sync OFF.
What OS?

android 2.2.2

When you first run the Facebook app it gives you the option to sync all, sync existing or don't sync. You can change this when you want by opening Facebook and going to settings, sync contacts.
Incidentally, you can also filter your contacts to only show if they have a phone number. This may help if things have got a bit messed up.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
so syncing is just copying contacts, nothing else?
It doesn't delete my emails or do anything else?
Facebook only syncs contacts - nothing else.
thanks syncing seems totally useless then.
Hi guys,
I assumed that with all Android devices nowadays, any contact I add will be by default saved to Google Contacts.
just browsed my Google Contacts online and found that almost all of my recent phonebook additions are missing from Goog Contacts.
Isn't there a way to have them saved and synced forever??
Thanks,
TD

Having the same problem
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Go under system setting then account and touch google account and turn sync on. If your under T-Mobile they have their own account sync
After confirming you have Google account and synced, check in PEOPLE app that the contacts are actually saved as "Google" accounts.
If not, you can always go to people->menu->manage contacts->copy contacts->from phone->to Google.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies.
I think the issue was that by default, the contacts were saving as "Outlook" contacts, hence why they weren't appearing in my G Contacts.
Not sure why the default is set to Outlook - is there a way to change this?
Also, it appears there is no way to migrate contacts added and synced to Outlook to G Contacts.. Anyone know?
Cheers,
TD

No need for Outlook extract:
Get into people on your phone, choose in the menu: manage contacts, copy contacts, choose the source account (Outlook in your situation) and then the destination (Gmail) and Done.

If I delete from the web it isn'r deleted from the phone either, but it is from Mac Mail.
It is syncing incoming mail, everywhere
Ideas?
Try to reinstall it

here's the fix.
Menu/Manage Apps/Calendar Pad & Calendar Storage & gMail/Clear data for all 3.
Accts & Sync/Google/uncheck all/recheck and sync now
That fixes Calendar from there out.
gMail is still weird.
If I delete from the phone, it deletes from MacMail and Goog webmail immediately.
If I delete from google webmail, it deletes from MacMail and phone immediately.
But if I delete from MacMail, it stays in both webmail and the phone.
I guess the MacMail integration isn't quite.......
