dont know what's changed, but I'm fast now! - Samsung Infuse 4G

Started with infused roms, went on to CM7, and have just used my phone, no tinkering, no trying to adjust things. So out of curiosity I decided to run Speed Test yesterday and got 4098kps down and 1098 up........I have never seen above 2900 before...............it's always been between 2200 and 2900 and 600 and 1100 and I'm in Sacramento, CA where we are supposed to have good fake 4G coverage.............ran again today and just got 7023 down and 1092 up.......about time!! not sure what changed?? I'm using CM7 from the update around Sept 2nd ............ Anyways, just sharing, no idea why it's faster, but I hope it stays!! Loving this phone and this ROM....it just plain works like I expect!! Can't even compare to my Dell Streak that always needed tweaking.

Either you had a tower deployed, or TCP buffer size fixes helped you.
CM7 has always had TCP buffer sizes from AT&T Froyo days, which are larger (usually this means faster) than Rogers buffer sizes. New CM7 builds have buffer sizes pulled from UCKI3/I4 leaks.
(Note: There's a limit past which increasing buffer sizes won't help speed - but the Rogers sizes were clearly too small.)

Did you have wifi on? I've found when I've done speed tests and had wifi on I got way faster download speeds than when on data

What are of Sac are you in? I'm in elk grove and I usually get horrible data speeds! I was at my friends house and got 5.5mbps down and that was the highest ever.

4G rooted inspire speed is slow to fast

I have an Inspire that is rooted, and after 5 different Roms for1 day each, I have settled into the revolution ROM and it really works great.I have my unlimited plan4G (most of the time I think)and I have my tendering. My question is when running the "sweetest.com" application I get 331 down and 783 up inthe evening and 2592 down and 1447 up in the morning until about noon,is this network congestion? Is there a different radio mod or flash or something that software locks the radio in HSUDA mode or whatever is making it that fast?? If anyone knows of a setting or .apk that addresses this or a setting possibly I would appreciate it,or an explanation if its not a tweakable thing might save hours of obsessing over trying to fix it.Thanks, Vegas

Yeah, the slow speeds at times are due to all the iphones tying up the network.

Funny, but I notice my speeds do the same. But most of the time it's relatively good.
I definitely think this is network congestion. My best speeds are late at night (usually about 2.5 down/1.5 up). Most of the time my upload stays about the same (between 900k and 1.5mb), but my download goes anywhere from 400k to 2.5mb..or lower
So 2.5 down is the fastest I can expect and the radio with the Revolution ROM is the Best one I could be using? I have heard 4G was capable of 6mbps,No..Anyone?? Is it gonna get better in phases, anyone know the truth?Vegas

4G really is slower than other phones...

I have this in my review post but wanted to call it out separately to see what others are experiencing. My G2’s best speedtest.net score is 10289 down and 1582 up. The average is in the mid-8’s down and about 1.2mb up. The best score on the G2X is 7013 down and 1263 up. Average is in mid-6’s down and 1mb up. I took the tests at the same time and after the G2X was loaded with the identical apps and configuration that was on my G2. I know both sets of numbers are good compared to some areas of the country, but if the percentage of degradation is the same everywhere the slower the connection the worse the G2X will perform compared to other T-Mobile 4G phones. I'm guessing it's either LG's implementation of the radio hardware and/or software. I'm hoping it's the latter which can be fixed via an update.
I got 8 at tmobile where the myt4g only got 6... Id say its good..

They were done side by side. So any network congestion would have effected both equally. They're also configured identically, unlike units tested in a store which are stock.
Wow you guys are lucky, I was getting 3 down on the G2 and am getting about 4.5-5 down on the G2x
7 down seems fine enough to me on a mobile phone.
Anyways point being i'm seeing higher speeds locally on my 2x compared to my G2, so who knows.
I get anywhere from 4-7 MB/s down and a solid 2.5-3 Up on my MT4G in vegas..
I'd check my G2x speeds but I boxed it up and it's going back because backlight bleed issue is worse than most I've seen here. Hopefully the next will be a little better.. I can live with a little, not a lot.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't really care if my phone is pulling 2mbps or 10mbps. When I'm surfing the web, everything loaded quickly. When I installed Dungeon Defenders, the update was done downloading in around 5 minutes. Considering it was over 100mb, that's more than acceptable to me.
Does tmo charge extra for 4g like sprint or veriz?

But Its also capped at 5GB and then goes to dial up speed after the 5GB, where as on Sprint %100 unlimited.
Oh c'mon.......
I'm starting to agree with the "I turn my phone on vibrate and won't cut my chicken" guys.
This thread is just ridiculous. Seriously are you TRYING to find things to complain about. These silly data rate comparison threads come up every time a new official rom is released for any phone as well. One guy says it's far worse than before, the next guys says it's the best ever!!! The point is, unless you want to continue your little test in 100 different locations at 100 different times of the day, you're not doing a reasonably analytical test. This is why no two people will ever agree on the results of one persons "scientific" test.
I'm sure the results are "real" to you, but they don't really matter to anyone else.

First, here a quote from the TechCrunch review:
A quick note on the network speed. The G2x is, like the G2, kitted out for T-Mobile’s “4g” HSPA+ network. The G2 got around 9Mb/s down in my neighborhood, with around 3Mb/s up. The G2x reliably goes at half that rate – between 3 and 5 megabits down and around 1.5 up. Not exactly the lightning-fast advertised speeds, but they were fairly consistent and for all the usual uses it was quite fast – loading pages and games in the browser or downloading apps, that is to say.
So, I'm not crazy. And to expect T-Mobile's self-proclaimed flagship to outperform an older slower phone (the G2) isn't an invalid expectation. Having a super fast processor and a slower connection nets you about the same performance as a slower processor and faster connection when streaming video. My G2 actually plays Hulu faster than my G2X over 4G. On top of that, the G2X is silly fast over Wi-Fi so it's not the phone, it's the implementation of the radio. I like the phone but I'd really like to see it reach its full potential. If you (or anyone else) are fine with it the way it is then you should really have no interest in this thread anyway.
It's Tmobile... not the phone.

I have the G2x for the 14 day trial period to test it out and see if the network suits my needs (possibly switching from Verizon). I never really speed tests this often, but I feel it is necessary so I can get an idea of the speeds based on my frequent locations. Verizon is too slow in some key areas for me.
I was surprised to see people talk about 7mb down on T-Mobile, because on the G2x for the few days I've had it, I have yet to see more than 1.5mb down. This is in all different areas and with a full 4G signal. One time a full signal on 4G was much slower than 1 bar of 4G - that never made sense to me? The phone stays on 4G pretty much all the time and even with a full 4G signal, I average about 500kbs down.
I'm hoping it's the phone/software... because if the network performs better than what it does now, I would be much more impressed with the network and would be more inclined to switch. It seems to work okay with basic browsing, but at times it does show that it's slow (like when downloading apps from Market).
Well coming from evolution on sprint I am 100% happy. No BS I was getting .12mbps on sprint 3g and on the rare occasion I got 4g I would avg around 6. But 4g was really limited in the dfw area and battery life was garbage. I'm running cm7 with stock kernal.
With the g2x for the first few days I'm getting 5-7mbps with peaks of 11. And the battery life is immensely better. I haven't transferred my acct from sprint because I wanted to test and so far I'm blown away.

BTW, i'm in Houston, data speeds suck here w/ all modems.
KJ2 gave me the best speeds at my home, but bad signal and speeds at school.
KJ4 gives me good speeds at home and great signal, but it also gives amazing speeds at school and amazing signal.
So KJ4 is the best for me, since I don't need 4G at home, I have wifi.
Eastanollee, (Stephens Co.) Georgia Community V8 Kernel, stock 2.2.1 rom
UCKH1 = crap signal, and bad battery life due to it?
Its worse than my old iPhone 4.
Gonna try KJ* and see how those do, but anyone near Northeast GA on here have any info?
KJ4 for me. I'm in Fort Worth using Infused v2. And as I stated in a previous post my battery life increased after installing it.

UCKJ4 is also the best for me. Only problem is the 160 character text limit when it fails. I have to send a lot of long texts so it's hard for me to use that, haha. I went back to UCKI3 and it's not too bad, but the latest is definitely the best.

Best battery - Good signal - Good speeds - KI3
Average battery - Good signal - Best speeds - KK1
Great speeds for me on kk2 best so far going to use it for a few days to see about the battery.
i wish i could update the poll to include the newer modems...
KK1
KK2 using Richmond, VA server works best in the VA area but has issues with text character amount. Best well rounded modem in the area is KK1
I haven't done any speed tests, but judging on signal strength and battery life alone:
Running Galnet MIUI, KK3 gives me the best signal and battery life.
Running Samsung ROM's, KI3 gives me the most consistent signal.

Modem for Rogers Infuse 4G

I always want higher data speeds & better reception, so changing my modem seems like the next thing for me to do.
I've been looking around various forums & seen a pretty broad range of results depending on modem used & location/network.
Most of them don't seem any better than mine, if even close at all?
I have a reception of -1 bar to full bars most of the time.
The odd place in the city (Winnipeg, MB) my reception can drop pretty low (1 bar) but I've never seen it lose 4G.
Speed Test app results (4G full bars)
Down: 7343kbps
Up: 1120kbps
Ping: 190ms
Is there any modem that you guys would recommend for a Rogers Infuse that I will notice decent performance increases, preferably bug free?
Here's my current setup...
Kernel: Infusion-GB Core-A
Rom: Stock Rogers Infuse
Gingerbread 2.3.3

Anyway, just try them all, you might notice different results. Also, there aren't any bugs on any of the modem leaks, so you don't need to worry about that.

[Q] NexusMod ICS Zero Beta 7 UCLD2 Radio slowness

Yes a noob to Android and yes, first post
Before my quick question I have to say thank you to M0D1441 for this ROM (and his contributors - it is absolutely amazing, and by far - the best ROM out there for Galaxy Skyrocket I727 users.
Flashed this Rom from stock I727R Rom last week and have had huge success with it and cannot wait for the update to this Beta 7.
However, since flashing the UCLD2 radio I notice significant slower speeds compared to whatever the stock was using. I have followed all procedures correctly, am able to auto switchover from LTE and HSPA+ and have had no issues with this ROM that anyone else has reported other than significantly slower speeds.
Max down on HSPA+ has been between 5 - 7 Mbs with upload at 0.2-0.56 Mbs and LTE down: 16-22Mbs (which is not bad) but have full bars and 2.78 up.
Even my home WiFi (802.11n) connection suffers from this new radio with dowload @ 18Mbs and up @ 0.56 compared to stock ROM speeds at least 38.6Mbs down and 3.7Mbs up.
My speeds with all connections with stock radio were, at bare minimum, double to what I am getting now.
I have flashed the UCLD2 radio a few times following procedures and still no change in speeds. I have read nightmare stories about switching back to older radios on the I727R and am nervous to do so.
Wondering if other Rogers users have experienced the same issue and if need be, what radio change to?
What was stock radio on Rogers I727R and is it compatible with the NexusMod ICS Zero Beta 7?
Is/can this UCLD2 radio be not fully compatible for Rogers customers in Canada?
Thanks a million in advance!
I'm on att and I haven't noticed a drop in speed I know its not Rodgers but I can't imagine its all that different

Keep in mind the modem is for AT&T, so not surprised you're seeing slower speeds on Rogers. Also, the modem, a.k.a. Radio has no affect on Wifi as Wifi is part of the kernel.
Bottom line, your experience is more than likely going to be a "best effort" at best; think of it like trying to install a Ford part on your Chevy car.

Thanks for your input. Yes, I figured this radio may only indeed be for AT&T but it is such a great modem/radio. My battery life is far superior with the UCDL2 as opposed to the stock KJ7 radio. Guess it's a toss between speed or bat life
As for WiFi, I realize this radio should have no effect on it but it is definitely slower with the UCLD2 modem. Strange - I will have to try and get this under the microscope and see how/if/what is effecting it.
This may be a dumb question (sorry) but can you use the stock radio with any ICS ROM or is that just going to cause nightmare issues?

Wow. Really? That's what I figured would happen for me but... not happening. The only thing I did not do was install busybox but I can't imagine that would make any difference to the radio.
I just want to make sure i am not damaging my phone by using this modem. maybe it just needs some settling time but it has been almost a week.

I totally hear ya. However, I have noticed something interesting which completely makes sense. After having the modem settle for a week now I have noticed that my daytime speeds on HSPA+ are slower compared to daytime. Now, Daytime on average is 9.51Mbs down and 1.27Mbs up (which is actually not bad) compared to night (after 9pm) getting an average 13.72Mbs down and 2.73Mbs up. I can't really complain as this seems the norm for GTA on Rogers.
LTE daytime speeds have now been an average of 23.7Mbs down and 3.78Mbs up compared to night time speeds of 31.2Mps down and 5.71up. And, this is on the outskirts of LTE in the East end!
However, my Wi-Fi speeds still suffer. My LTE speeds are far exceeding anything I get through my 802.11n router which maybe something in the Kernel which I will check out.
So really, I can no longer complain Guess it just took some time to settle in the device.
As for the Rogers ICS, according to this article: http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-reveals-us-ice-cream-sandwich-update-list , " The big picture is that if you've got a Galaxy Tab or Galaxy S II-class phone, chances are you're in line for an ICS update later in the year."
Ouch! Yet no announcement has been officially been made for North America. And, don't forget Rogers will need to test and ram it full of their bloatware before we see it!
