Hello everyone! I have just finished writing a short article. Samsung has announced even more Galaxy products and iPhone 5 production has been slightly put off schedule. Read the following article for further information.

lol iphone is losing its mystique
so many other phones that are just as good, if not better. And most importantly, cheaper

good work keep it up

IPhone 5 being delayed? I guess with ICS and mango coming around they still have a few more features to steal before it goes public.

Hmm, new news. I guess it's confirmed Oct 4th afterall.

Haha, you made it sound like something that happens everyday. xD
Well it definitely does!

The Galaxy Player is now available from Best Buy. Both the 4" and 5" models.

nice
lovely news, nice.

This is sad. The Galaxy Player has low sound quality compared to the iPhone/iPod. The whole, sole purpose of a media player *without* phone functionality is higher-end sound and video qualities. Samsung just can't seem to bring themselves to give their products quality.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/12/galaxy-player-4-0-review/

Yea, I just read that review... They also priced it above the 8GB iTouch.
I guess it is useful since it has an earpiece for VoIP calling (Skype, etc.) and a GPS chip in it. But... The camera only records 480p video... I don't take pictures on my iTouch, but I record video on it and being able to do 720 is useful.
THey should have just taken the Vibrant and removed the Cell Radio (fixed the GPS and put in a FFC).
Additionally, no search button? THey want you to load your media library on these things and then removed the search button... What were they thinking.
Lastly... TouchWiz 3.0 ... ... We all know how crappy it is. No explanation is needed there.

Good job mate

It's anyone's guess at this stage what the next Samsung Galaxy smartphone is going to be like, lots of rumors doing the rounds personally im happy to wait until next year with the GS2 which is still the best in the business.
[The rumored specs of the GS3 though do sound amazing]
Awesome specs but I wish they provide better software support to existing sgs n sgs 2 my sgs 2 is still on 2.3.3 waiting for updtes to arive in india n I dont wana flash as its already working awesome at least til warrenty lasts

For my part I hope Samsung do more both hardware, and software, testing before launching the SIII.
On Tuesday I'm going to send my S2 and Tab 10.1 back for repair.
The S2 have random locs/reboots and somewhat loose homebutton.
The TAB has watermarks/newton-rings.
Maybe I have been unlucky with my first Samsung devices but I have never had devices, 30-40 phones and pc's over the years, with faults like this after only 2 months use.

My samsung galaxy S2 has been very good to me.
I hope the 720p screen doesn't make me have to squint my eyes to see something. >.>
Especially when reading text. Dx
I am going to stick to my S2/i5 phones, but I can't wait to see what the S3 brings.
P.S I not been asked about my iphone yet and I am glad. (I have had two ask if my S2 was the Iphone 5, but no one has said the same about my iphone 5.lol)

You're claiming to have an iphone 5?
4.3" is big enough, add a case and you're carrying a novel in your pocket, 4.7" will be like carrying a box of cereal in your pocket. That said, if it's light, and slim, it might not be so bad.

I don't care if any one think's I do/don't have an Iphone "5" or not. I like my galaxy s2 better any ways.
Edit: ontopic
I think 4core phones will be when the smart phone market nears it's highest point. The S3 may start to get Iphone like sales as well if it get's to the states faster than the S2.

Then why bring it up?
Did you see anything cool besides an iPhone during your time in the future?
If you really have an iPhone5, then that ABSOLUTELY is what this topic is about now...You apparently have something in your possession no tech publication, reputable news agency, etc have been able to get their hands on.

I did not bring it up like I want to be cool or anything. I have had alot of thing's before anyone else:
Halo: ODST
Cr-48
A game I can't name at this time( They will come to get me if name it.)
And now the Iphone ok.
P.S Ok so not a lot, but you get the point. The Cr-48 was the coolest to me and I have not had the phone for long they are just geting them in. I did not think every one would be so mad, but the ICS thread should have spelled it out for me.
Now about the Iphone part, I was just saying I am unlikey going to buy the S3, but it should be cool and I can't wait to see it.
Edit: You will all see the truth on 09/4/11.

iOS or Android? I have a definite answer now...

I've never been an Apple 'fan boy', and the only Apple hardware I ever owned was iPhone 4. I bought it in October 2010 because at that time it had the best display on the market (retina). I've always been a big Google fan and always preferred their products (Chrome, Maps, Drive, etc.). A month ago I ported my phone number to a new carrier (Wind Mobile, Canada) with inexpensive unlimited plans. Wind's frequencies (AWS) are not supported by iPhone yet, so I had to buy a new Android phone (Galaxy Nexus). I was really excited to get Android as my experience with Google was excellent so far. I was very happy with iPhone 4 and iOS, and expected Android to be as good if not better than iOS. I rooted my Android right away and installed 4.1.1. Now I'm gonna share my observations:
Hardware: Galaxy Nexus looks and feels really cheap (like kid's toy): plastic is probably the cheapest Samsung was able to find. Touch screen sensitivity is as bad as it gets - often you have to tap 2-3 times to make it work. Hardly any competition to iPhone 4.
Software: buggy and underdeveloped. I can't believe Google actually seriously markets Android which looks and feels like beta version which requires lots of testing before final release. Some bugs are so outrageous, that I doubt if Google bothered to hire QA team at all: for example when I try so send SMS and use my phone book to enter a recipient's phone number, SMS fails cause a phone number entered is missing area code somehow. What the hell? I think it's a bit over the top. Same apps on Android are not as functional, 'nice' and 'smooth' as on iOS. It looks like Android has lots of potential, but now is still in early stages of development. iOS is by far superior in any aspect at the moment: practically bug free and very user friendly.
Verdict: there are rumours that iPhone 5 will support AWS frequencies - if that's the case, I'm gonna dump Android without any regrets. What a shame, Google!
0/10 really bad failtroll. Try harder, make your story more believable and add in some buzzwords for good measure. This hurts to watch. Back in my day, trolling used to mean something.
I got b& at /a/ for sh!tposting ;_;
Funny though you rooted it immediately and flashed a Rom onto your device which you said was 4.1.1 then you proceeded to ***** about the software which apparently wasn't stock Android we have no clue how you screwed up your own device in rooting your phone. Nice try though "Apple fan boy".

IMO,
Sony makes the best phones as build quality but they're not updating their phones at all, or really late, and they don't put the latest hardware in their phones. (yes other brands usually suck at build quality)
and there is nothing wrong with the Android software,
If Sony makes a Nexus device, that will be the best and the sexiest device out there.

Well you are running a custom Rom, of course it will be buggy... And unlike iOS that has been the exact same for how many years, android is a developing platform. It has been completely revamped in the last few years.
The custom rom is causing all of your troubles. I have had 3 android phones and I've never had a problem on stock firmware. My rooted Desire died when I clocked it to 2.5Ghz in freezer (motherboard failure), which was MY FAULT. My One V never failed on me and my G1 was live last time I looked at it.
As with build quality - you are blaming the OS? Samsung is plastic galore, why did you pick a galaxy nexus if you want a metal and glass machine? My phone is excellent build quality, cost me 280$ CAD with no contract, it is a middle of the range device - yet it is still an aluminum unibody, and I'm overclocking at 1.5Ghz.
Get a stock android device not made by Samsung and you've got your next iPhone.

If you look at Android then and now, you will see how much it has changed.
If you look at iOS then and now, you see that nothing has changed. They don't want to add more features which is why it seems so bug free.
Kinda like Olympic gymnastics, you have a higher potential score if you plan on doing more complex moves, but also a bigger chance of making a mistake. But if you choose simple, your potential score is low but you probably won't get many deductions. And guess what? Android is the more complex gymnast that will continue to learn more moves. When it makes a mistake, it trains via an update to fix it.

We'll see once winphone 8 comes out. That actually MIGHT give some competition to android. ios will be left in the dust as usual. Also, are you me? I had the same exact thing happen except with an iphone 4 and a milestone xt720.
I never understood why apple fan boys and android fan boys, couldn't just man up, realize and accept that not everyone in the world has the same preferences as they do. They act as if they own the companies or something. Grow up. They're PHONES. It's not that serious and it shouldn't be to begin with.

[DISCUSSION] Ipad mini copied Nexus 7

OK so i have a nexus 7 and lately i have been noticing how much
the iPad mini looks basically exactly the same just with a added
button. Now we all know android had the first 7 inch tablet (dell streak 7)
and now suddenly apple has a idea to make a 7 inch tablet??
and of course the sneaky guys at apple made sure to make it a little
bigger to avoid a lawsuit but my theory still stands that apple has copied
the nexus 7. i mean its not like apple hasn't been accused of this in
the past when they were accused of stealing the iPhone design from Sony
so is apple really that pathetic that they will steal an idea then patent it?
see attachments for picture comparisons and tell me what you think
Apple is fine. They didn't copy anything. I'd rather have the iPad mini. It has a back camera and can play games smoother. Ikr

Grow up its a free world we do as we please, apple = awesome

Don't really care. I think it's pretty widely known that Apple didn't invent anything. "Great artists steal" has always been the company's mantra. Way I see it, if people want to pay twice as much or more for last year's tech in a stylish enclosure with a fruit logo on the back, that's fine. I'm all for choice.
The Android community doesn't have anything to lose from Apple taking our sloppy seconds and marking it up 200% or more. Conversely, Android is a threat to Apple -- newer, faster tech, sold for half the price of their junk, or less. That's why Steve Jobs was willing to go "thermonuclear war". Jobs wanted/Apple wants to control the development at mobile hardware, and keep the tech evolution to a much slower pace, to maximize profits. And they're losing, slowly but surely. The latest iPhone hasn't been a high-end device for years, since the 4 or maybe as far back as the 3GS. They just figured out how to get a widescreen display on a mobile device, and it's not even 720p. First-generation Android phones had widescreen. With the sole exception of the case (aluminum and glass IS nice), an iPhone is like a Chinese knockoff of any given top-shelf Android (S3 or DNA, .e.g.).
We have nothing to worry about.

There were 7" tablets long before the Nexus 7. I believe the Galaxy Tab was the first 7" tablet with Google Play access. The iPad Mini looks like the 10" iPad, so I don't think you can say they copied someone else.
What they did copy though was the 7" tablet idea. The late Steve Jobs said 7" tablets would never do well, and the fact that Apple has now put out a 7" tablet is a big indicator that they are now a follower and not an innovator. Although IMO the last innovation they had was the original iPhone. Over 5 years later and that UI looks just as old and outdated as the Luna blue XP theme.

3 things that I was a bit disappointed with:
1. Screen is not a flexible one like the concept shown a while ago (with side screen for notifications)
2. Screen not flexible can be compensated by a larger screen (6"?), but it's not much bigger.
3. Why does it have to look like a gs2? Are we going backwards in fashion?
Just some of my thoughts...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
^^ Well, screen might can bendable. But how do you bend those battery, and other circuits inside?
Even if that is possible as a prototype in labs, I am sure such tech is not ready for mass production. Not to forget, the cost associated will be just too high.
how big is the screen?
Front facing speakers and a bigger screen would of been the icing on the cake for me. Still can't wait to buy one though (just sold my note 2)

The big question is how locked down the bootloader will be and on which models/ carriers. For example since im in canada my s4 does not have and never did have a locked bootloader. The last update on at&t has negated the ability to do anything other than root at this point.
If the note 3 is going that route I will spend my money elsewhere, I hope this is not the case however

Personally, that's one of the selling points for me. I had an S2 and loved it because it was a powerful little thing and it's design is, in my opinion, better than Samsung devices since then.
If I'd liked the look of any Samsung device since then, chances are I would've stayed with them instead of venturing towards a Sony and HTC.
Yeah the specs are great but I wouldn't even think about buying the Note 3 if it looked similar to previous iterations.

As you can see by my signature, I have the One and have been amazed by the improvements by simply having front facing speakers so I definitely agree that it would've been a great addition.

We still don't know how much it costs for mass production. Reliability is another concern. Definitely it will get such a device in future for sure.

Yeah its only a prototype which many thought were going to be implemented into the gs4..
Maybe you're right about the cost or maybe they just don't want to bring out the big guns yet ;p

I feel the Note 3 is a great upgrade from what I've read. I like that it has a envelope tracker. Saving you up to 30% battery life while connected to LTE.
Then you have a very fast processor the S800 running at 2.3ghz max. The 330 GPU that will play anything on the market and many high end games to come. I'm not a very big gamer on phones but I think I will be if I got the Note 3.
I also like the new S-pen features, though there is more optimizations then features. It's still great what Samsung has done. Like the scrapbook, it now will save the metadata of whatever you put in you're scrapbook making it much more useful. And the new floating windows that you can open by just drawing a box of whatever size you want the app to run in.
Battery life is said to have up to 4 more hours of on screen time. Of course it all depends on what is on you're screen but still, I find that a big improvement. But it's mainly due to the S800, it's optimized much better then I thought it would have been. Of course this is all based off of what I've read. But it sounds about right.
Furthermore, you get a much more powerful device. In a all around smaller and lighter package. Sadly the screen is pentile from what I've seen so far. But at 1920x1080 and a 5.68" display pentile should be passable. I've read it looks just as good or better then the Note 2's display. And reading full non mobile web pages without zooming in shouldn't be a problem. Yes you can do that with the Note 2 but only in landscape mode.
I would love to be able to upgrade. It's been keeping me up at night... Gratz to everyone that's able to get this wonderful device.

Since I still have the Note 1, the Note 3 is a welcomed upgrade for me.
I wish the desktop feeling has improved when connecting the Note to a FullHD TV. I guess I will buy the Snapdrogon 800 version, since the octa core version will not be as good supported by Mod development, even if the Octa Core might be faster.
Engadget's Hands-on Review
Two years ago, at a consumer electronics show in Berlin, Samsung took to the stage and unveiled the introduction to what is now a booming smartphone genre. The 5.3-inch monstrosity, called the Galaxy Note, has blossomed into one of the Korean manufacturer's biggest brands. Today the same company is unveiling the Galaxy Note 3, the second sequel in a series of supersized stylus-smitten smartphones, which is even taller, narrower and thinner than the first two of its kind. As expected, the new 5.7-inch Note not only utilizes a S-Pen but enhances its functionality and adds better hardware and components to ensure it's able to handle anything you can throw at it.

Just a quick comparison, between the 2 newest things out there so far, Gnote3 vs LG G2:
http://www.androidcentral.com/quick-comparison-lg-g2-versus-samsung-galaxy-note-3
.
Murray Winiata, a NZ blogger, got hold of a Note 3 and posted his opinions on his twitter page yesterday. Overall he is very positive about it and he is a demanding and informed reviewer.
Some of you may remember he wrote a really detailed review of the Note 1 on his blog and hopefully he will get around to doing the same for the Note 3. I think he sometimes posts here too.

Gear 2 / Neo to be compatible with more Android devices - discuss here

It as been stated that the Samsung Gear 2 will also be made compatible with other manufacturers Android devices.

This will be a major step with getting people interested in these new wearables.

The article also says Samsung will release an Android based smartwatch later this year... I'm not even going to attempt to understand that one. The only way I can see them doing that is if they run with Android Wear just to have a device in that space (you know, the Android faithful crowd).
Yeah, the Android Wear bit did confuse me as well. Kinda glad I'm not the only one that gets confused about these things. Lol.

i'd get a Gear 2 (or Neo) if i knew if would certainly work with my phone, but "eventually" could be a month or a year from now

True. Surely Samsung should know how detrimental it is to their overall Smart phone strategy. Hopefully sooner than later

How really? They anyways control more than 50% of Android smartphone market share. I am yet to find a reason why that would hurt them. How can locking customers in their own eco system be detrimental to their profits?
Well yes they have the smartphone market, but with this restriction they will not own the wearable market using Tizen. Wearable is the new fighting ground for devices and revenue.

Not sure if Google Nexus watch will support more then just Google phones (I assume it will be all Android) but it is to be announced in July at Google I/O. It looks a lot nicer then the Gear 2. At that point I have a feeling that the Gear 2 will get phased out if they don't open up to Android by then. Mainly because Google is a super power and they will find a way to push them out of the way. The next 2 months are vital to the GG2's existence outside of the Samsung ecosystem.
Here's a list of the latest Samsung devices compatible with the Gear 2:

What do you mean by opening up to Android? This is built on Tizen, everyone knows that already.
Guess you haven't checked Samsung's financial results lately. Samsung Electronics made 7.7 billion profit last Q. That's just the electronics division. They have countless other companies controlled by same family/chaebol.
For the life of me, I don't understand why everyone is so up in arms about the gear series only working with Samsung devices. If and when the iWatch is released everyone will praise them like sheep and no one will complain that it won't work with my note 3. Samsung sells MILLIONS more phones than apple yearly. So why does everyone have an issue with it? Also, since I'm ranting again, leave Android wear for Android. Meaning I don't want Android wear on my Gear 2 neo. Android wear is nothing more than a wearable notification system. Android wear on this device would be like buying a Ferrari and swappjng the motor for an LS7 for no other reason than you like corvettes. Android wear would cripple this awesomely capable device. OK its late.... I'm done. Don't mind me. ... I'm sleepy

Nice rant. I'm with you brother. I'm a big samsung guy and love my gear. We don't know what Apple will bring to the table because they keep putting watches and phones "iPhone 6" off for release. They're so far behind the curve is ridiculous. Now. That being said the one thing you said could be wrong. The initial rumors are apple's Iwatch will run on all devices. That's what the rumors say. It would be in their best interest to do that and try and steal away Android and windows phone customers. We'll see. Maybe the iwatch will be released before the gear 3.. lol

If Apple actually allows their watch to be used with android devices.... It will signal the death of Apple. The last time they said something would work with all devices they meant 3gs and newer. Lol. But really, if it does, Steve Jobs will rise from the dead and smack Jony Ive so damn hard that his face will swell into the Google.com logo of the day.

Gear 2 works fine with my HTC One M8, just need to find the APK for the Gear Manager. Obviously certain samsung specific features like the Weather, S-Health, S-Voice wont work but other features including notifications work fine.

Does the media controller work for you? I really miss being able to control Play Music like I could with my Pebble.

I followed the instructions to a T, even started from a fresh CloudyFlex 2.1 ROM install - Media Controller appears on my Gear 2 and I'm able to adjust the volume from it and see the currently playing track, but it won't let me pause/play or skip tracks. I'm using Play Music.

I'm using Sense 6 Music Play application on HTC One M8 and all the controls work (play/pause, skip tracks forward/backward and volume up/down). Could be a Google issue.
Wife's Gear 2 came in the mail, so I decided to try it myself. I was able to do take photo's and sync them to my phone and make phone calls. I didn't try the notifications or replying to them.
I'd definitely want one, but not to sure about it. If it had the Nike+ running app on it, then I'd definitely get it.
