Solution to warping official HP folio case. - TouchPad Accessories

So it is quite popular (sadly) that the rubber case is warping and bowing out around the power and volume keys and USB port. Mine was quite bad. This is because the rubber is thinner in those areas.
Here is a temporary/long term fix. I have applied it to my case and so far it is staying flush against the TouchPad.
Get a hairdryer and heat the problem areas but at the same time as heating, ROLL the warped edges INWARDS. The tighter the roll curl the better. Be careful not to burn your fingers from the heat. Occasionally blast it with cold air as you keep it rolled. Try to keep it rolled up for 20 seconds allowing it to cool as you do so, before letting go. Those edges will now look quite odd now as they are bent inwards but when you put the TP back in the case, it pushes the edges out and keeps those warped edges flush against the case.
There is a knack and technique to doing it. I didn't know if it would work so I gave it a go and was surprised it did.
Good luck!

Thanks, I've not noticed this problem with my HP case but it's good to know there's a solution if it does crop up in the future.

Its really annoying and disappointed it has happened on an official case.

the only problem I have with mine is the little piece over the USB connector is warping upwards

Try calling HP. They sent new a new one.

Same issue here. I'm tempted to try rubber cement because it can easily be peeled off of most surfaces, but something tells me that the solvent may react badly when applied to a rubber surface.

Seems just like the touchpad, they didn't do much if any QA...

Aluminum locking case

Ran across this today searching for cases for the Epic. Anyone using one? Its interesting in that it locks the slider during normal use and hinges open if you want to use the keyboard.
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_10000000_11001061&products_id=31414
Now this looks like quite a nice case for functionality.
Now if they just took off the whole part in the back for the clip and form fit the corners a bit more and offered it in more colors that'd be nice.
This may be the best thing I can do for now, I have been scouring for a jelly case to slip over the epic, since I never use the keyboard
Now, if somebody has the ability to cleanly cut aluminum and wants to sell a matched set consisting of this case with a hole cut in the back for the hump on the extended battery the other guy is selling to poke through... (strokes credit card and sighs)
It's hard to tell from the pics... does the case snap onto the lower half, or does the phone just rest inside?
How firmly does it secure the phone when the case is closed? Does the power button still cause the two halves to separate a little, or are both held firmly in place from both sides?

There are videos on you tube. The bottom looks like a very snug press fit. Top must be looser to allow for the hinge to work.

I had a similar case for my old HTC Titan. I LOVED it. Being a pretty serious phone abuser, that case kept my phone together!
-Rob
I used to have a similar case for my Treo and they are extremely well made. I irregularly dropped my phone from about 5 feet in the air onto hard linoleum and it never suffered any indignities. These come in both black and silver so if you want a different color you would want the silver so you could send it out to be powder coated.
I just ordered one.
Mine came last night.
The good: locks the slider firmly closed. No wobble or "play" at all when pressing the power button. Phone easy to remove (for GameGripper purposes).
The bad: Feels terrifyingly slippery compared to the Seidio ActiveX. Obstructs "slide down" gesture for notifications.
The seemingly fatal (a big one): my "back" fake hardkey keeps randomly going berserk... but ONLY that specific one. The foam in the top half seems to be confusing the capacitive sensor.

Update: I've had the 'search' fake hardkey freak out a few times on me, too.
Another problem: it's definitely affecting reception. 4G and GPS barely work with the case in place.
Sigh. So close. So agonizingly close. It's awesome to not have the phone shear and jiggle apart every time I hit the power button, and the fact that it allows the phone to be easily removed for the Game Gripper without really compromising the slide-out keyboard's usability is very cool.
I'm really convinced that this case went straight from plastic prototype to mass production before anyone actually tried to use it in an area with 4G service, high humidity (presumably what's screwing up the foam and touchscreen), and who didn't just assume that the GPS was dysfunctional because Samsung sucks.
Sigh. Too expensive to throw away, and really nice in ways that ultimately don't matter because the touchscreen-button problem makes it totally unusable
The plot thickens: more touchscreen observations:
* Oddly, there's NO FOAM around the lower part of the screen where the phantom-pressed fake hardkeys are.
* Last night, it went completely berserk with phantom button presses on cue when I rubbed the latch a certain way.
This suggests that the problem's root cause might extend to the electrical conductivity of the case itself. It's strange, because I wasn't able to find reports of the same problem for users of Monaco cases for other phones (like the Droid). Lots of complaints about signal attenuation, but no reports of touchscreen problems.
I'm seriously tempted to buy some liquid electrical tape and coat the inside of the lid to see whether it helps. The problem DOES seem to go away when the lid is no longer in contact with the screen. However, if it's happening because the sensor is acting kind of like a Hall Effect sensor and the case is acting like a Faraday cage, nothing short of making the case (or at least the top lid) out of plastic is likely to fix the problem. Still, it's worth a try since I really like the case itself, and my alternative is to basically chuck it.
Update: as an experiment, I wrapped black electrical tape around the bottom lip of the top part. It helped a lot. I think I might have also found a contributing cause: cat fur. I think wisps of cat fur might be bridging the metal case & screen and carrying static electricity to the sensor. Oddly, though, some of its *worst* back-arrow spasams have occurred with the phone laying on the desk, untouched, 3 feet away.
I'm still trying to think of a good way to plastic-coat the case without making it look bad & get a nice, even black rubbery coating on it.

How thin is it compared to the other plastic cases?
Very interested in getting the Monaco Aluminum Case, which is very similar to this one. My last concern, how thin is it compared to Seidio Innocase Surface?

[FIX] Annoying creaking noise

I just started developing this odd creaking noise near the bottom and sides of my S4G. Even with a Seidio Active case wrapped around it, the creaking can be felt and heard when hitting the bottom buttons.
The fix is pretty easy. You just need to decrease the amount of movement the back cover has.
I had some .010 mil fiber (fish) paper laying around so I cut a small square that covers the sim card and microsd card area. You can probably use something else, but hey, why not use some insulated paper if you have it.
Lay the paper on top of the area and then slowly place the back cover back on. No holes are in that area above the sim and microsd, so no worries there. You should see an immediate improvement
I needed more than that to stop the creaking/screen movement.
Pathetic we have to go to these lengths

What did you have to do?
I tried used two squares of paper, but that made the back bulge out a little too much to my liking.

I took a post-it and folded it twice. Then placed it on the bottom right area and closed up the cover. For me when I press down on the bottom right side of the screen the whole screen sort of depresses a bit. Only way I could get rid of that was to place the paper in that region. Problem solved.
Post it would have been my backup method

buy another battery, i recently got an anker also had the creaking problems, noticed the anker is a TINY bit thicker than the stock battery and it removed that problem completely. and that anker battery was DIRT cheap
I just lined the case with some scotch tape. from the bottom to about 3/4 of the way up. I just went around the antenna nubs and the usb hole.
Posted this in another thread, but felt it was valuable here too...
Got the creaking here also, definitely a design flaw. Being obsessive with my devices i couldnt live with it!
I do not recommend putting paper in the cover to fill the gap, as this is just expanding the cover further making it even MORE loose when the paper is not in there. Also i wouldn't recommend it because the paper pushes the back cover out a little more, you may loose a connection for the ground. Which is the little metal springy thing, half way up the right hand side. Obviously its not a good idea to 'push' the cover further away from this ground spot. I have heard that people have had issues with screen responsiveness due to a static build up from not grounding properly.
What i did to fix this problem was a bit of a kitbash of sorts.
Mine was creaking on the bottom right area, like most. The problem is there is too much play between the little black catches on the battery cover and the latch on the handset. Instead of filling up the gap between the phone and the cover (Ala paper, card in the cover) I closed it!
What you need to do is get some very thin plastic film. Like that on kids toy packaging etc. Not the thicker stuff though. This stuff would be under 1mm thick. It came as a viewing window in the box my new wallet came in. So you can sorta imagine what im talking about.
I cut a piece about 10mm long and as wide as one of the two little black catches. I applied a VERY thin coat of super glue to one end of the film. Just enough to cover the area under the catch. Then i carefully placed the film with the superglue on it under the catch, and then quickly applied some pressure to it with some tweezers. Then i carefully cut the excess off with a pair of finely tipped nail scissors.
The result is that it now PULLS the screen/phone INTO the cover more by making the little black catch thicker. Not the opposite (paper method), which pushes the cover out, creating a further problem of adding more paper under the cover over time as the cover expands/loosens to compensate. Not to mention a possible grounding loss and resulting damage.
Hope this helps some people that have had multiple replacements or could not be bothered replacing for such a cosmetic issue. (Like me). It definitely works, just got to get your surgeon on and be accurate with your placement of the film.
Apply this to what ever side creaks the most, and bam its gone. Nice. Solid phone... again.
If anyone wants more specific details etc, im all ears.
Regards,
Matt.
will try it with an double side film ...
i mean a film that hold back cover and phone together ;-) i think doing paper in there will do damage with time
I contacted HTC and they sent me another/new one. No more creaking!

Back cover or whole phone?
I have the same problem too. And it just seems to get more and more "cracking"

Phone dropped, corner is not closed completely

long story short, my husband dropped my phone and corner hit the pavement. still working but the corner is slightly gapping. i tried to snap it close it but it won't close. i am afraid to leave it like it is because water might seep in. any idea what tools i need to snap.this thing together again?

My recommendation would be a nice, tight TPU case. Failing that, I've never had problems with the tinest of tiny drops of crazy glue when repairing old phones, but I'll defer to others if someone's actually used a tool to rebuild a case.

I'd never advocate introducing crazy glue to phones, but if you get the gelatinous kind and use the tiniest of tiny amounts on a thumbtack, wipe off any excess with a little piece of paper towel right away and either tape it together tightly or hold it in place for 5 minutes or so, you can make it look like nothing's happened.
But again, introducing crazy glue to your phone can potentially do a lot more harm than good, and may well look like crap. If you do it, any ill effects are your own fault, not mine. If it works, it'll hold forever and look great. Always the potential that it doesn't, though...
thanks. i only have one option for case since i am using qcell ext batt

Having problems with your TGSP not sticking on the corner?

I posted this in the screen protector thread but since so many people have had this problem with TGSPs on the 6P I thought it deserved its own thread. After applying my Intelliarmor TGSP I noticed, like many others, that the lower right corner had an area that was not sticking properly. I am not sure whether this is due to a defect in the screen or the screen protector but this seems to be a common problem. After not being able to get it to stay down by using pressure overnight I decided to try to see if heat would work. I took a hair dryer and turned it on high and focused the air on the unruly corner and heated it up for about 30 seconds while making sure the phone did not get too much heat. After the TGSP was pretty warm I removed the heat and held the corner down till it was cool. Low and behold this worked to get it to stick! Not sure if it subtly allowed the screen protector to bend to the screen or if the heat allowed the adhesive to bond properly, but either way it worked and has held for the past day. If you are having this problem give it a try. Can't hurt.
I had the same issue with my nexus 5. I did the exact same thing to fix it too.
I had this issue with my nexus 6p except on the top right corner. No amount of heat and pressure fixed it. I ended up doing an rma. The screen protector went down perfect on the new phone.
There are no females in my household, nor do I know of any close friend females that is within 50km from me even tho I live in a megacity, so I have to now go to Kmart to buy a hair dryer. Damn you intelliArmor.
It's just too risky to use a candle or a lighter.

Sounds like you need to get more than a hair dryer while you are out.

Walmart / Lowes / Home Depot / etc sell inexpensive heat guns. More useful than a hair dryer, I'd bet. Just be aware: They get hotter than a hair dryer.
I don't have any issues with Skinomi TGSP
I tried this two days ago for about 30 seconds then another 30 seconds about 3 times total. It helped and the lift is only in the very small corner but I still see it. I will wait a couple of days to see if it gets worse. Then I'll try it again. Maybe longer time, just didn't want to burn or damage the screen with heat. Don't really want to waste my spare that I have just to fix this corner thing. Is yours lifting at all? I will request replacements from intelliarmor when they get there thinner glass I suppose. Not sure if thinner is weaker. Sounds like it would certainly be.

No curved screen on this device, likely that the one you received was a defective one. Sounds like a pain if you're going to have to resort to using heat to keep it down!
Question, I'm new to Tempered glass. MY TGSP is lifting in the bottom left corner. I'm going to order a new one. Anything special I need to do in taking the old one off to avoid damaging the screen? I still have it on the phone. Appreciate any advice, new to this.

No, just lift it at one edge, it should come off easily.
I can recommend the TGSP by Orzly. Sticks very well to each corners and is pretty slim.

Does anyone know if this would be fixed under warranty and if not the best way to restick it down?
I would try heating up the glue and sticking it back down.. heat gun would be best.. just be careful of how much you heat it up. Also.. in the future I wouldn't use a toothbrush. You maybe pushing dirt down into the grill. Something like silly putty might work better. I meant to add that when I get mine, I'm going to try a car/electronics attachment that came with my shark vacuum. It has tiny hose parts that might be able to suck debris out of the grill instead of pushing it down in there. I think they sell attachments like that for small shop vacs and other vacuums but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the tip the 1st few times i used a softish toothbrush and was ok, silly putty ive seen aimed for tech stuff and more jel like would work better i think next time and had used the tooth brush before ok i just think i removed the adhesive bond when cleaning it with the wipes as the phones not been expose to any heat for it to warm up enough for the grill to slide off.
Fingers cross Razer would good will a return / repair for me as now the speaker is a bit tinny and while holding the plastic tightly to the phone its not great abover 70% volume level but looking at the speaker grill in the middle its torn away a patch. This maybe to allow the sound out as it was a neat cut in the material thats left. Still wouldnt want to superglue resin (self repair) it until razer come back and say if they will fix it for me or not.
https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Adhesive-Transfer-Tape-Clear/dp/B00HD27UJC
This stuff would be good.
Cheers i did compile a post and closed the wrong tab went away from my desk. Im waiting for someone in Razer to agree to the repair under warranty but if not ill be getting some tape hopefully i can find some thin and strong enough to go between the plastic thats come off and the non sticky adhevsive tape thats still there. Im not 100% sure if i should tape around the little square cut out or not. i was thinking small path between the left edge and camera/sensor and then a small bit to e right between camera and the torn away patch and then the last strip to the right of the pacth. its odd the patch is thereand its alot thiner than the rest of it.
Applying some pressure to the patch part i can only assume its the speaker as when covering it up the phones quiter. just unsure why its a patch? when playing last night with the bit that fell off theres some vibration so thinking where the patch is i just secure it down with the tape where i can.
Also may get a screen protector to remove the lip between the screen height compared to the plastic that fell off as this is not smooth and is a little sharp. - I may flag this with razer as a design flaw which could have lead to the problem as if it was sunken down it wouldnt have moved out of place
Something like this almost seems better. https://www.amazon.com/Innovative-C...&sr=8-4&keywords=cleaning+gel#customerReviews
