Beware of the leather pouch!

Just thought I would warn others that after only a week of owning my cool TP I noticed a scratch on the screen and button area. A very straight score down the middle. Lucky I had my screen protector fitted else I would have been very upset.
Replaced the protector a week ago and today noticed a similar score down the screen though less deep. I then realised that this was due to a piece of grit in my pocket that had slipped between the case and the screen and scratched it as I pulled it out of the case.
I have now ordered a proper fully closed case to give full protection and hope this is a warning to others!
Definitely invest in a screen protector, they don't spoil the look of the device or impede it's usability in any way, they are easy to apply and could save you a lot of tears! Then use a decent case!

am using martin fields protectors.... it is tough enough that when i dropped my phone on the stairs, the rest of the body is scratched except the screen area and hkey areas where it is protected.
i frequently use my fingernails too. i don't trust other screen protectors... used it for my previous Axim v51 and X500 ... device gave out before the protectors.. meh.

Yes I was definitely satisfied with the Martin Fields solution, which I've reviewed on my Diamond. Will order one for my new TP as well.

I saw someone scratch the screen protector on their Touch Pro right in front of me, he had just put the screen protector on it and put it into his case, it was one of those that holds it right on your hip... Took it back out, exactly what you're talking about, a nice line right across the screen.

If using the case provided, the ribbon inside is attached so that you can insert the phone from both ends. If you feel inside, one side will be folded over and therefore sticks out quite abit which feels quite abraisive, whilst the other side of the case is much smoother because the ribbon is not folded. Inserting the phone from the other side, reverses which side sticks out more. I ensure that the screen side is always slid in with the smooth side facing the screen. So far, this has been ok.......................

I have just got hold of the HTC Touch Standard belt pouch (PN: PO S322) and it fits perfectly with a standard belt clip.
Velcro so the Sliding magnetic keyboard sensor does not go T^Ts up!!

Personally, I always keep my TP in my pocket, without a case. The only time I ever use a case is if I'm putting the phone into a bag or box with other gear which might scratch it. Also, I never put keys etc into the same pocket as the TP, only a handkerchief. I've kept phones this way for many years and never got a single scratch on my screen. The inside of your pocket is generally a nice soft place for your phone. Case not necessary! In fact, all the case does is muffle the speaker and make it harder for you to hear the phone ringing.
In fact, until I got my TP I never even used screen protectors. The only reason I'm using one now is because it came in the box!

I haven't noticed the difference in the sides. I have been using this case for about a month and haven't seen any signs of scratching to the screen (although I have a screen protector on) or any other part.

I agree with you. I always feel where the smooth side is and make sure that its the one facing the screen when I'm sliding my TP inside the leather case. So far I never had any scratches on mine.

I have noticed a small cut in my plastic (I haven´t taken of the large piece of plastic that came on then phone). From the middle of the screen and down to the edge.
I don´t get it! That folded ribbon ain´t sharp, it´s just wide, how the heck can it leave a cut like a scalpel? The other smooth side has a sharp thing in the seam, that could possibly cut but I really don´t think so.
I´m scared now, because there is a cut but nothing in the pouch can cut!

Exactly!! Same happened to me. A very straight deep cut, saved only by the screen protector. I could only assume that a piece of grit got trapped between the sleeve and the phone. This wouldn't happen in an ordinary case, the pouch fits very tightly against the screen and this is where the danger lies. I have stopped using it.

Screen (Slider) Way Too Loose [SOLVED]

My fuze screen has became way to loose in the closed position. To provide a better example its like its got a hinge and wants to flip open rather then slide open. There is way too much up/down movement that way. Its so loose that when it vibrates the screen will vibrate on the casing and it makes or horrible rattle sound that makes me cringe every time I hear it. I have to hold the phone tight in my hand to stop the rattle. The weight of the screen will actually cause it to partly open by just flipping the phone over and holding the back.
Aside from duct tape, any good ways to fix this or tighten the mechanism that holds it position?

I have a similar problem but not as severe. Mine is just a smidge loose and when I press down on the side of the screen it slides a few millimeters and it's really annoying when I hold the phone. Any help fixing would be appreciated.

When I originally mentioned duct tape, I was being sarcastic. Ironically, however, this is my fix to this problem.
I used the Gorilla Tape brand, because that's what I had. All I did was put three pieces of black gorilla tape on the back of the slider. This tightened it up, and stopped my annoying rattle. Pretty simple and easy fix.
Also, it made the snap feel when it slides out much more firm, and I really enjoy the feel of it much more now.

Aluminum locking case

Ran across this today searching for cases for the Epic. Anyone using one? Its interesting in that it locks the slider during normal use and hinges open if you want to use the keyboard.

Now this looks like quite a nice case for functionality.
Now if they just took off the whole part in the back for the clip and form fit the corners a bit more and offered it in more colors that'd be nice.

This may be the best thing I can do for now, I have been scouring for a jelly case to slip over the epic, since I never use the keyboard

Now, if somebody has the ability to cleanly cut aluminum and wants to sell a matched set consisting of this case with a hole cut in the back for the hump on the extended battery the other guy is selling to poke through... (strokes credit card and sighs)
It's hard to tell from the pics... does the case snap onto the lower half, or does the phone just rest inside?
How firmly does it secure the phone when the case is closed? Does the power button still cause the two halves to separate a little, or are both held firmly in place from both sides?

There are videos on you tube. The bottom looks like a very snug press fit. Top must be looser to allow for the hinge to work.

I had a similar case for my old HTC Titan. I LOVED it. Being a pretty serious phone abuser, that case kept my phone together!

I used to have a similar case for my Treo and they are extremely well made. I irregularly dropped my phone from about 5 feet in the air onto hard linoleum and it never suffered any indignities. These come in both black and silver so if you want a different color you would want the silver so you could send it out to be powder coated.
I just ordered one.

Mine came last night.
The good: locks the slider firmly closed. No wobble or "play" at all when pressing the power button. Phone easy to remove (for GameGripper purposes).
The bad: Feels terrifyingly slippery compared to the Seidio ActiveX. Obstructs "slide down" gesture for notifications.
The seemingly fatal (a big one): my "back" fake hardkey keeps randomly going berserk... but ONLY that specific one. The foam in the top half seems to be confusing the capacitive sensor.

Update: I've had the 'search' fake hardkey freak out a few times on me, too.
Another problem: it's definitely affecting reception. 4G and GPS barely work with the case in place.
Sigh. So close. So agonizingly close. It's awesome to not have the phone shear and jiggle apart every time I hit the power button, and the fact that it allows the phone to be easily removed for the Game Gripper without really compromising the slide-out keyboard's usability is very cool.
I'm really convinced that this case went straight from plastic prototype to mass production before anyone actually tried to use it in an area with 4G service, high humidity (presumably what's screwing up the foam and touchscreen), and who didn't just assume that the GPS was dysfunctional because Samsung sucks.
Sigh. Too expensive to throw away, and really nice in ways that ultimately don't matter because the touchscreen-button problem makes it totally unusable

The plot thickens: more touchscreen observations:
* Oddly, there's NO FOAM around the lower part of the screen where the phantom-pressed fake hardkeys are.
* Last night, it went completely berserk with phantom button presses on cue when I rubbed the latch a certain way.
This suggests that the problem's root cause might extend to the electrical conductivity of the case itself. It's strange, because I wasn't able to find reports of the same problem for users of Monaco cases for other phones (like the Droid). Lots of complaints about signal attenuation, but no reports of touchscreen problems.
I'm seriously tempted to buy some liquid electrical tape and coat the inside of the lid to see whether it helps. The problem DOES seem to go away when the lid is no longer in contact with the screen. However, if it's happening because the sensor is acting kind of like a Hall Effect sensor and the case is acting like a Faraday cage, nothing short of making the case (or at least the top lid) out of plastic is likely to fix the problem. Still, it's worth a try since I really like the case itself, and my alternative is to basically chuck it.

Update: as an experiment, I wrapped black electrical tape around the bottom lip of the top part. It helped a lot. I think I might have also found a contributing cause: cat fur. I think wisps of cat fur might be bridging the metal case & screen and carrying static electricity to the sensor. Oddly, though, some of its *worst* back-arrow spasams have occurred with the phone laying on the desk, untouched, 3 feet away.
I'm still trying to think of a good way to plastic-coat the case without making it look bad & get a nice, even black rubbery coating on it.

How thin is it compared to the other plastic cases?

Very interested in getting the Monaco Aluminum Case, which is very similar to this one. My last concern, how thin is it compared to Seidio Innocase Surface?

[Q] cracking the transformer open, need ideas

im trying to crack the transformer open and do u think the back is glued on or is it screwed on? im thinking theres probrably some screws behind the lable but cant seams to find anything here that wont scratch it to remove it. hit me up with ideas and hopfully I can post some kind of video on how to dissacemble the transformer.

It will most likely be fastened with screws. I think if it had been glue peoples cases wouldnt be 'creaky'. There were some pics on a Chinese site showing it open. I saved them to my pc, If I find them I'll upload.
Edit: Well I found them but they're not really showing the case. I'll attach them anyways and you can see if they help or not. It looks like once you get the bezel off the back just slides clean off.

Ok well scratch screws under the asus logo, thanks very much for those pics. I already have the screws out from the bottom. I'm guessing the back seals with some type of clips

If you have one, your best bet is a Stanley knife (boxcutter, I think you call them). Should be thin enough, you'll just have to be careful not to nick any internal crap.
If it were me, I'd use a scalpel, but I know most people don't have one handy.

ok well heres my mini review untill i get a guitar pick, i got the bottom half to crack open with a credit card(to thick but i did it), i was then able to slide the card from one end to the other. The plastic clips holding the metal are very very crappy. the metal was extreemly easy to bend and by just putting the card threw the bottom was enough to bend it. i was however; able to put it back together with out making it look as if i opened it, but u would need a ULTRA Thin piece of plastic to complete the mission(DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE BUT PLASTIC,,THE METAL AROUND THE EDGE IS SUPER FRAGLE). seams all ASUS does is pop the plastic backing in and screw the bottom and its off to who every buys it.
(Losining the bottom screws lowerd the light bleed that was there by 30% ( i was a full brightness and back screen and loosining the screwes made a big impact so the issue with the light bleed is to much pressure on those areas)
seams this is easy enough just need the right tools.

Interesting. That seems to be the very spot where my screen has a little backlight bleeding. I'll try it out in a few minutes.

thats not the only spot i have light bleed, i also have bleeding on the top portion and theres no screw to losen so must be on to tight from the inside. however this does prove that the bleeding is from pressure not the screen itself

You don't want to use anything harder like a knife, as then you will mar the 'lips' on the device shells. Aesthetics aside, that will show up as evidence of tampering, meaning goodbye warranty.
Most electronics use plastic snap-in clips to hold the shells, along with screws and possibly soft glue. Going slow will prevent the clips from snapping off, but not always.
You can find these same tools on Amazon and eBay. Just search on 'spudger', which is their name.
Use the guitar pick to get the initial crease, push one of the thicker wedges into the crease, and slide it along the seam. This assumes you've gotten all of the (hidden) screws.

How did you get the screws on the bottom off? Do you have the right screw driver (any ideas where I can get one)?

Use a Torx T6 bit.
When you opened it up, was there anything to suggest there was any way Asus would know you had opened it up please (if you hadnt bent the bezel ofc) if you needed to send it back under warranty for some reason?

opening is not recomended threw my experiance * I used the thinnest guitar pic today*,and the metal around the edge;any slight flex and it ends up staying that way and wont go back on straight no matter how carefull u are, also the clips that hold the plastic back to the bezil is ULTRA CRAPPY to a point u have a 50 50 chance of it not holding the plastic cover anymore. ON the plus side; if u loosen the bolts in the bottom, u can relieve the light bleed there. so reguarding the light bleed its best to just send it back to ASUS to get it fixed.
MY Next step is having ASUS fix my light bleed on my own tablet and not have them give me a replacement.
I will be posting a before picture of the light bleed when i send it out , and a After picture on when i recieve it back from them. good idea??

[Q] Loose Battery Cover?

My battery cover is a little loose all of a sudden. at the bottom it now moves a little. When I squeeze (lightly, normal use amount) the phone at the bottom kinda clicks. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes. I called HTC and they're replacing it. But for now what you can do is put paper inside the case

Yeah, several other people reported this problem on a Dutch forum. People should not open the backcover unless they really have to. After opening the cover a few times the cover is getting loose and starts to crack when you press it.

okay so I have the same problem, should I be worried or is it just the case with all sensation handsets ?

Take the cover off and press the battery. I think that's what it is...or maybe both.

I don't think that's it, the battery is fitted normally, and I've just tested it with battery removed, it does the same thing, I should mention that it isn't really that obvious, but it's an annoyance nonetheless, such an expensive phone to have a glitch like that.

can anybody confirm that it does loosen after some time of usage, I mean did it came like that out of the box or was it getting loose with time?

I went to a tmobile store to see if they'll let me switch. The rep told me thy they can't switch cuz its an htc problem. Then he got curious and pulled out his sensation to see if his had it...
He looked so sad lol I just got off the phone with htc and my replacement cover is shipping soon and if the second one is defective then I have to send in my whole phone so they can check it out. You guys should call htc I'd you already haven't

Hey first post here! Signed up just to have my say on this issue, just as i did with the android central forum.

Got the creaking here also, definitely a design flaw. Being obsessive with my devices i couldnt live with it!
I do not recommend putting paper in the cover to fill the gap, as this is just expanding the cover further making it even MORE loose when the paper is not in there. Also i wouldn't recommend it because the paper pushes the back cover out a little more, you may loose a connection for the ground. Which is the little metal springy thing, half way up the right hand side. Obviously its not a good idea to 'push' the cover further away from this ground spot. I have heard that people have had issues with screen responsiveness due to a static build up from not grounding properly.
What i did to fix this problem was a bit of a kitbash of sorts.
Mine was creaking on the bottom right area, like most. The problem is there is too much play between the little black catches on the battery cover and the latch on the handset. Instead of filling up the gap between the phone and the cover (Ala paper, card in the cover) I closed it!
What you need to do is get some very thin plastic film. Like that on kids toy packaging etc. Not the thicker stuff though. This stuff would be under 1mm thick. It came as a viewing window in the box my new wallet came in. So you can sorta imagine what im talking about.
I cut a piece about 10mm long and as wide as one of the two little black catches. I applied a VERY thin coat of super glue to one end of the film. Just enough to cover the area under the catch. Then i carefully placed the film with the superglue on it under the catch, and then quickly applied some pressure to it with some tweezers. Then i carefully cut the excess off with a pair of finely tipped nail scissors.
The result is that it now PULLS the screen/phone INTO the cover more by making the little black catch thicker. Not the opposite (paper method), which pushes the cover out, creating a further problem of adding more paper under the cover over time as the cover expands/loosens to compensate. Not to mention a possible grounding loss and resulting damage.
Hope this helps some people that have had multiple replacements or could not be bothered replacing for such a cosmetic issue. (Like me). It definitely works, just got to get your surgeon on and be accurate with your placement of the film.
Apply this to what ever side creaks the most, and bam its gone. Nice. Solid phone... again.
If anyone wants more specific details etc, im all ears.

...just an update...after buying new back cover from no1tech (that was month and a half ago...) there's no loose spots, no creacking...!
Very satisfied now I am. Finally phone feels and looks like it should be - beast in compact housing!

I have the very same problem too. VERY annoying

well I had the same problem however what i did was that on the back cover inside of it I put some black electric tape on to the sides that creak (next to the sides and the clips) and when I put the cover back on there was no creaking at all. figured it wont interfere with the single because people put cases on the back all the time plus its electric tape meaning it'll prevent from short circuits and I don't think there should be any overheating issue as its a very small quantity.
