Let me introduce myself, I am @CallipH on Twitter, I wrote a bunch of guides for the original Vibrant... I really try and make an effort to make things as streamlined as possible, but I avoid apps for one-click rooting.
I lead a social media campaign against Samsung.. made some contacts there.. and when my Vibrant had issues, they replaced it for me, but with the 4G version so I am very new to this phone.
I was shocked that it lost 15GB of internal memory.... really shocked. Do you guys have any internal memory issues - needing ext partitions on the external sd?
I also wanted to find a guide similar to some of mine... how to root... how to odin.. how to flash...
It seems there are a plethora, almost too many. Only being here 12 hours, it may be too early to be posting this... but, is there a guide for someone who just got the phone, is on stock froyo and wants to root?
The one guide that is stickied, and looked great, confused me because it stated it assumed you already had root.. but then in the steps it noted you got root. This and the amount of threads just got me wondering... it does not seem like someone new to the 4G has ONE go to thread.
Am I wrong? I'm probably posting this too soon... just my initial reaction to what I have seen.
Here is a common scenerio:
If a person has froyo and just wants to root.... do they simply odin drhonks bali kernel via odin... which willl give root. What if they then want to flash a GB rom? I saw that Rom Manager does not work.... Bali must come with a recovery. Seems to me you could flash a GB rom from this, but that is not where the reading led me to believe.
No offense should be taken from this post, all I want to do is see if I can help in any way.

I guess I was just asking, do people find that is good enough for noobs? There are about 10+ guides in the bible... and none seemed like a defnitivie, go here to root and flash.
If people are not asking the same questions over and over, i guess it is ample...
EDIT: Oh, and as a fan of Whitehawx, I am likely to go to Valhalla... that guy was a beast for the Vibrant. Anyone have experience with it - are there more stable GB roms?
I don't know, when I first got my phone, before the bible, I just looked at what we had, granted there are more now than there was, but the originals are still there and IMO if people would read they shouldn't have problems. If I can do it than anybody should be able, all it takes is reading till you understand and patience, which IMO is what causes most of the problems for people, they don't have patience.

The Valhalla ROM is the best GB ROM out so far IMO but the launcher causes random reboots and freezing, you'll have to use a different launcher.

I actually have two guides for what you needed.
If you want to root and add cwm to you froyo rom you can Odin this:

It's a lot easier than pushing a file through root explorer, especially if you already have Odin and are familiar with it.
If you want to get a GB rom with good bootloaders, root, cwm and all internal partitions formatted to ext4 you can follow my other guide:

Sadly my guides never got stickied. Not sure why. I do think they're some of the most straightforward out there since I made the Odin files myself for ease of use. interesting. I did see the first link you mentioned in several posts last night researching, but somehow I missed the second. I'll go over those now.
Obvious initial question... why cant one root froyo, and then just flash a GB rom? Are the GB bootloaders required? They were not on the OG Vibrant.
I assume the GB roms suffer from similar bugs as the OG? Poor/No GPS being and battery drain?

The GPS works, great battery life, people have problems with wifi, I don't it works good enough for me.
You need proper GB bootloaders.

FB's Gingerbread guides are the only ones that worked for me. With froyo, it was easy. Superoneclick if you just want to root, and ODIN in a kernel if you want CWM. Then flash any froyo ROM you want till your heart's content.
With GB, you need to have GB bootloaders, so that's why the guides always have you flash a samsung GB leaked ROM first (only the leaks have boot loaders). Form there, follow the guides to get CWM and ext4. Once you are on GB, it's nearly just as easy to flash any GB ROM on the forum.
Great info... I can tell this community is just as good the OG Vibrant. A sincere thank you.
I'll stay in the shadows for awhile and see if I can help in any way with guides - they are something I really enjoy making.

That is exactly what I intended to do... of course I have a lot of catching up to do. Amazed at how different things are for the Vibrant and 4G.
A new beginner's guide may be in order. A lot has changed with this phone over the last few months, so some things are outdated and have been superceded by better methods.

I'm trying to figure out why the guides are not that simple though.
Not all GB roms have the bootloaders. You can corrupt your system partition. You can have disappearing apps. you can break certain features if you install out of order. Not all GB roms are stable (leaks).
I've flashed and troubleshooted every ROM in this forum. Its a bit more complicated, but its getting easier.
This is not every other phone out there, but in all honesty, its not any more difficult. It's just different.

The way I see it, after the SECOND odin to GB (odd), I need to go into cwr, partition, and then reboot... let it bootup... then move the rom/busybox to my sd... go back into cwr... flash.
EDIT 2, yeah... I agree, nothing confusing about odin or what's going on... while I was on my break from the vibrant someone mailed me an HD2 to use... so, in the past 3 weeks, this is my third toy to learn/play with.
Nah, you're not annoying. It's tough to grasp coming from other phones. I actually had a tough time flashing stuff on my mt3g and vibrant after this phone. To me, the other phones are so much harder to flash. Its all perspective.

Yea, that's the smarter way. Because you need the partition to convert to ext4 (not on Valhalla). Moving the files after us a safety precaution. Partitioning can wipe the sd card. Flashing the Froyo boot loaders followed by the GB bootloaders ensures a clean install. You haven't been around this specific forum, but we had an issue with people flashing with corrupt partitions and bootloaders. This step fixes that before it is a problem
Hd2 is a fun phone. Dual boot windows and Android!

i just for the TB today. i returned my X2 which was laggy and im happy with the TB. i see all kinds of posts bout how people are bricking there phones so i would like to ask all of you,

Its all up to you if you feel comfortable rooting your phone or not, there will always be some inherent risk involved.
I have mine rooted and I have had no problems with it and thoroughly enjoy it.
Follow JCase's root method that's stickied in the development section if you choose to root.
A lot of the concern about bricking is from the leaked GB radio that some people are using so you could always stick with Froyo if you want to avoid that risk.
I rooted my Thunderbolt after I had it for a week. The first week being unrooted was terrible. The battery life was horrible, and I contemplated returning it for an iphone.
Then I rooted, which was easy as long as you follow the directions posted in the threads. Now I can easily get a full day of use with my stock battery... off the charger for 17+ hours with 4G, bluetooth and wifi always enabled, and GPS enabled sporadically.
I'd say read up on the root process. Then read up on different roms. I use Das BAMF 1.7, and Imoseyon's 2.6 lean kernel. If you determine that root isn't for you, there's easy ways to unroot.
It's not the rooting process that is bricking phones. Rooting is perfectly safe, as long as you follow the steps. The bricks have occurred after flashing the recent Gingerbread leak. If you stick with a Froyo-based rom, you will be fine.

That was also always my undertsanding, that all rooting does is give you permissions that would normally not be available. What you choose to do with those permissions once you have root is the risky part.

Mine was one of the few that did brick and I had to send it off for 2 weeks before it was replaced.
The first thing I did when I got home with my new Thunderbolt was root it and flash a Froyo ROM.

I was running the leaked GB when my Thunderbolt bricked.
I meant to quote the OP just to let him/her know it IS safe to root.
I just got my new Thunderbolt a few days ago and the first thing I did with it was root it, and this was after my first one bricked.
As someone who bought a TB a week after it came out, screwed up my first root attempt, got it the second time after "unrooting" and has since loaded a ton of different ROMs, radios, and kernels, I can safely say you have nothing to worry about.
As long as you're following the instructions, that is. Can't account for human error, after all
All these bricked phones are being bricked by people who flashed the newest leaked gingerbread (gb) radio onto their devices in order to run the leaked gb rom. Even flashing the newest gb rom+radio didn't mean your device was going to be bricked to sure, it was just a few whos were bricked. If perfectly safe to root as long as you follow instruction and I don't see anything risky about installing apps with any permissions as long as you get the app is from a creditable market place.
The long way of rooting seems easy for me all I did was get adb running and copy pasted the commands on the command prompt.
Yep. Definitely safe as long as you follow the directions and stay away from the Gingerbread radios.
I rooted mine two weeks after I got it. Hubby finally caved and let me root his after seeing the differences.
Grab you an md5 checker and give it a shot!

What everyone else said there is some risk(minisule) if you stick with froyo you should be fine, if you end up with the reboot problem post rooting flash the radios to the old versions and your tb life will be much more sweet.

The gingerbread radio. Any froyo rom will be good to go.

Jcase's post ([ROOT] MR1/OTA PermRoot + Unlock Bootloader - Safer/Easier 5/12/2011) looks pretty complicated. Is this the one I should do?
Second, I am really tempted to flash a gingerbread rom (th3ory b1.7), and I've flashed several GB roms to my droid 2 before recently getting the TB. If I carefully follow the instructions in the threads, am I pretty safe, or is the GB radio thing still pretty risky?

1. The easiest is the one-click method. However, if you are not familiar with adb, I highly recommend doing it the way described in jcase's thread. That way you get experience with adb. Anyone even considering rooting needs to know basic adb commands.
2. To my knowledge, there have been no bricks with the GB radio posted here. But remember there are no 100% guarantees when rooting/flashing your phone. Good luck
wish people would stop blaming the radio,my first bolt bricket on stock froyo after the first ota update,never had gingerbread on it. as far as rooting goes if you eant the phone to work to itd potential you need to root it and flash a custom rom that or wait tol vzw and htc decide to update it to gingerbread or even icecream for that matter

So I waited for the GB update and I like it but I think it is time to root this phone. I want to stress that I have had this phone since a little bit after it came out about two weeks after and it has run like a champ from day 1. No problems at all so when I updated to gb it was actually a downgrade in some ways like the camera but I definitly like gb because of the text editing but I havent noticed any improvement in battery life or speed or signal or GPS but All thouse things were great before and they are great now.
So I am running GB 2.3.3 withthe july 15 baseband and kernel 2.6.32.9 and I know it is different to root but I dont fully uinderstand it so if someone can post a detailed guide with as much explanation as possible so I understand what I am doing I would greatly appriciate it. I assume you cant get NV flasher from the market (I Havent looked) and what is cwm or cmw and if I flash a new rom will I loose the new baseband? Or can I get root permissions and keep stock GB? First read the sticky at the top of the Android Development page. That sticky basically explains everything you will need to know, step by step.
In summary though....
Step 1 - NVFlash (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847)
Step 2 - Download Xboarders Rooted OTA.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748)
Step 3 - Boot into Clockwork Recovery
Step 4 - Install Zip from SD Card - the Zip you downloaded above
Voila you have rooted GB 2.3.3 with new baseband.
An alternative that I would suggest would be Eaglesblood 1.06 GB 2.3.3 though, smoothest ROM on the boards IMO and based on GB 2.3.3

I've tried both Roms and I would have to sway that Xboarder's Tweaked Rom is the best GB update 2.3.3 Rom.

Did not try Xboarders tweaked, maybe I will give it a try.
Does swype work on that rom as phone just took a dump with swype beta. First reboot in over two months just now.

Does the Netflix app work on xboarder's rom? I'm having issues with HDMI on CM7 going out about every 5 minutes but coming right back. I really need the netflix app for travel.

I am going to ask alot of questions because I want to understand how it actually works so please bear with me. It sounds like it actually got easir to root with this update no? It seems like NVflash is a app or program that lets me put the rom on my sim card should I go internal or external? I have a whole bunch of external cards with diffewrent capacitys and the one i use now is 16 gig. Then clockwork recovery is a program that is already on the dvice I dont know if it is part of android or what but it is alrady there right? It lets me choose wether I want to recover or make a backup of roms or install new ones correct? Then when I put the tweeked rom on it has something in it hat roots the phone magically.
Please let me know what I am right about and what I am not right about and give me the correct answers because I really want to know I am a nosey motherfer

So According to the thread in this forum titles "how to get the new baseband" the rooted version of the new rom does not contain the new baseband. Or is that the leaked gingerbread that came out a few months ago way before the update came out? He is not talking about xboarders rom right? If I do what was suggested here I will in fact have the new baseband and 2.3.3 rooted right?

If you have the new baseband now no roms will change that.
The roms do not include the baseband .

I flash from my external SD Card. You just need to decide where you want to install from, and then make sure you set up NVFlash with the correct support, external or internal.
Not sure of the exact terminology, but I think the procedure itself would be called to NVFlash ClockworkMod. NVFlash is the procedure to install CWM, while CWM is the program that you will run via Volume Down + Power when you boot up. CWM 4.0.0.2 will boot up and from there you will be able to flash roms, backup and restore Nandroids.
Ah that makes sense Now I see CWM stands for Clock work mod. See I was thinking CWM is a rom I actually thought it stood for cyogen mod I just couldnt figure out the W. So when I flash CWM it contains the root permissions already is that how it works?

CWM doesn't "contain" root permissions, it just allows you to flash any ROM into the phone, rooted or otherwise. The Xboarder ROM is pre-rooted, along with most of the others.

I too am a noob and was a little confused. I'd search the forums and come up with too much info. Plus, some terms used on this forum are slightly overloaded (in the C++ context) from the classic meanings, like "ROM" and "baseband". Those terms as used here do not mean exactly what they meant 20 years ago.
I'm sure I need to read more on app dev (but I have too many hobbies already), but I'm confused about the layers of s/w. As a noob, I would think the layers would be BIOS or maybe BSP, Linux, Android. So I don't understand:
1) where does the clockwork mod fit within the layers?
1a) nvdia nvflash installs new drivers in the Linux layer?
2) what is contained in the ROM image? A new version of Linux, andriod, nvdia drivers, baseband?
3) Is there a BIOS/BSP, or is all register access done in Linux drivers?
I'm not looking for a developers level answer to these questions, more of the readers digest version of the answers.
Since I'm having black screen of death (I believe referred to here as "SOD"), on two phones, I'd like to understand more, to figure out if this problem is h/w or s/w. I am definitely leaning towards s/w problems and my wife and I would love to keep these phones.

Continuing off of what Spyvie said, you do need to flash xboarder's rom to gain root, (more like repeating what he said). As for nvflash, this should make things a bit easier. tgagunman made a nice one click feature that if you follow the directions, should be easier to follow. You will get clockwork mod recovery, it will be nvflashed, but it's a lot easier for a non-techie to use.

I want to thank everyone who chimed in you guys have been really good to me Bob has some really good questions also and I hope this thread can help you out bob. That is why I started this thread for people like me who are really good with computers and like to mess around but don't quite understand phones. Every time something goes wrong with my PC I go to the forums and I fix it myself then I feel good. (And I have had some real disasters on my PC I have come back from)
Anyway I will be doing this procedure soon as I feel confident that I can do it and I see there is a fix for unbricking phones. One last question before I hit the green light: Can it be unrooted just in case I have to send it back for warantey issues and can CWM be uninstalled? I suspect that since the ROM is pre-rooted that all I would have to do is format and install my original ROM then uninstall CWM is that on point or no? And Again THANKS TO ALL WHO CHIME IN WITH THE ANSWERS AND I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE OTHERS TO CHIME IN WITH THERE QUESTIONS.

Okay so I checked out the links. So I gather that step 1 has to be skipped now because super1click does not work. So we can just NVflash CWM which looks easy enough. Now I have winzip on my computer will that work for extracting .rar files? I am pretty sure it will but I want to make sure. You can restore you Nandroid of the preroot OTA, or you can unroot with the unroot zip that Xboarder provided in his link.

no, there is nothing else you need to do to your computer. The link provided by the brother above (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847) is where you need to be. Skip the one click root and go straight to NV flash. It will guide you through installing the nvidia drivers you need. TGA_Gunnman has is laid out really nice and easy to follow and the program he put together (one click clm recovery nv flasher) is really simple to understand and use. he also has another post out there (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060715) that is also helpfull. Once you get nv flash done make sure you copy the rom you want on your sd card. IMO Xboarders is very nice and smooth. You will hold down volume down and power together until you see the android screen. Then in the menu use vol keys to move to backup and restore and use power to select. Then move to yes and run the backup. then you can wipe data/factory restore. Then wipe cache. Then go to advanced and wipe dalvic and batt stats. Then go back to "choose zip from sd" and find your rom zip and select it. It will run for a while and tell you when its done, Then go to advanced again and fix permission. After that just go to reboot option and let it reboot. It may take a little longer the first time, just let it go. When it reboots you will have a rooted 2.3.3 with the new baseband you just updated to. After that go to the market and get Titanium Backup and run a backup of all your apps and data. From there your pretty much good to start flashing away. Have fun, Good luck
After a major battle with my Windoze 7 PC I finally got SuperOneClick to connect to my phone and successfully rooted it!
I had to uninstall/reinstall drivers, reboot, toggle in and out of debug mode; anyway, its done.
Now I would like to start flashing ROM's. I was just wondering (since I'm new to all this) is there anything that I should pay specific attention to when flashing new ROM's to my phone? I have already done a few backups with Titanium Backup and I have downloaded ROM Manager.
My phone is currently running the factory image. If I were to upgrade to a ROM that uses Gingerbread do I need to download and install the kernel seperately or is it usually included in the ROM?
I would really like an ICS based ROM. I have seen a few mentioned but I think they are just themed and not actual ICS based ROM's. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have also downloaded GTGUnbrick but I havent really looked at that yet.

For the gingerbread thing, the devs are doing a great job explaining how to flash the rom; installing or not installing a kernel, wiping or not wiping etc. All you have to do is get familiar with CWM and read the devs' posts completely before doing anything.

Biggest thing you can pay attention to is instructions in the first post of any rom thread. Do that and most everything will be laid out in front of you. There's not a whole lot to really worry about when you're flashing stuff, so long as you follow the directions given. And even then, it's pretty hard to completely brick this phone.
But yeah, modded recovery is the next step. And welcome to the newly found beast you once called your 'infuse'.

ok i have downloaded the I727UCALC4 leaked update for the galaxy s2 skyrocket and i have a few questions i hope someone anyone out there who has tried it can answer.
1. how is the performance? does it slow down the phone?
2. is there a big change in the user interface?
3. can i flash this rom without tripping the flash counter?
4. if this rom is actually from at&t will it void my warranty?
5. do i need to be rooted to flash this rom?
6. if i dont like this update can i go back to the stock rom?
7. if so how would i return to stock rom if i wanted to?
8. does ice cream sandwich live up to all the hype ive heard?
9. any glitches or any problems? anything thats not working or unstable?

You should use the search function of the forum. All of the questions you asked have been discussed many times and I find it hard to believe that you looked because many of the questions you asked are stickied or are still on the first page. I'm telling you this because there is a lot of information to cover on your questions (many of them could possibly have several different answers) and the easiest way for you to get all of the information you need is to look at what people have already said and done. There is even a "One Stop Shop ICS" thread that is stickied in the DEV section. Nope, I can't believe you even tried...but good luck and read as much as you can. Short-cuts will only get you a bricked phone.
well i have read alot and i think that may be my problem. i have read alot on android 4.0.3 and i have found info that the nexus got it first and this update is way different for the skyrocket. like the user interface is way different. cant seem to find a straight answer on it as people seem to be split on the user interface. thats why i wanted someone who has actually installed it to kinda point me in the right direction on some of my questions. i dont mind reading info but im new to this sight and am just figuring out how to search for info on xda. typing questions in google has gotten me only more confused. ive had good luck on xda in the past and trust the info on this site above any other. if you could copy and paste some links i dont mind doing my own reasearch as a matter of fact i had rather that way i can download what i need as i go..... thanks

Start from the top and work your way down. If you have an I727 I would definately only research ICS on the I727 and not any other phone. As you said, they are different. You will also find that there are no 100% answers on a lot of your questions. What works on one phone might act a little different on another. That is why it is better to read and be prepared...just in case.

If you use the "Odin" version (One click Odin with the ICS leak) you will need to put cwm back on your phone via Odin. If you use cwm to install one of the custom ROMS you will retain cwm. Directions on how to put cwm back on your phone can be found in the "DEV" section. If you use the ODIN method you will need to re-root anyway, I prefer Copperhed's method...again, found in the "DEV" section. Good luck.

well i found a stock rom thats not a odin one click and not from a backup but it is stock. if i put the tar file on my sd can i flash it with cwm and if so will i lose it that way or do i need to find a rom already rooted injected with cwm? sorry for so many questions...

Do not try to flash TAR files through CWM. Only ZIP files (approved for flashing with cwm) can be flashed via CWM. TAR files are for ODIN. I suggest you learn more about the differences before trying anything. There are very direct and clear directions for all of this in the different XDA skyrocket sections (mostly in the "DEV" section). Do yourself a favor and take a week or two to do some reading and learning. Good luck.

from all the reading i been doing all day from the everything ics forum its best to flash the odin one click first then flash cwm again and install your choice of custom roms [zip files] since im on gingerbread now. something with the modem and radio is giving alot of problems unless you flash the odin one click first. im gonna take your advice and do alot more reading before i decide. i had a captivate before i got the skyrocket and flashed many different versions thru odin on it but have never flashed a rom with cwm before. so odin or heimdall is not new too me just cwm. but now that i found out about cwm and the way it can backup roms ill never be without it again. its kinda like having life insurance it there if i screw up lol.. thanks for helping me and if i run across anything else im not sure about ill ask cause its better to ask than to mess it all up... ill let you know what i decide and how it turns out... thanks again
Well I made up my mind and flashed the odin one click leaked update of ics. Then used odin to flash clockwork mod and used cwm to then root and make a backup of ics just in case. I restored my apps and data using titanium backup and never lost any data not even on the games I play. Oh and if anyone is wondering this ics update flashing cwm and rooting did not trip the flash counter none of it did. From what I read the flash counter only moves when a custom rom is flashed and this was not a custom rom but a leaked version of stock rom to come. Also flashing cwm does not trip the counter cause you are only flashing a recovery image and not a custom rom and the root didn't cause you are not flashing anything using this method... thanks to all for the help I could not have done this without those who pointed me in the right direction..

Hello, XDA! and, even though we haven't met yet, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE STUFF ON MY PHONE!!!!!! This is my first, and dreaded post.
I'm new to smartphones. My first was an iSUCK 3g. Now, I have the SGS4G! I'm totally new to this wprld, and every day, I'm being blown away by something new. Anyways, I have read two guides on this site already, but I'm still suffering from a little confusion. I think my problem comes from when I first rooted my phone. I was in a hurry to root it, because I needed to unlock the carrier permissions, so I could use my ATT sim. I hadn't found this site yet, sadly. I had tried a few things, to no avail, until I came across a you-tube video with some kid showing me how it's done, and other littler kids screaming in the background. Following the video step, by step, got it done, but he failed to go over, and explain what we were actually doing. Now, I don't know what ROM I have, or what kernel. It's not a big issue, because this phone now totally blows me away, especially the launchers.
I really enjoy this phone over the iSucks, becuase I like computers, and I'm more tech savvy than most. Perhaps that's where more of my confusion comes from... the terminology. So, on to the issue:
My RAM seems to run unusually high! with the GOtskmanager, it's always clocking between %72 - %79. I got RAM Manager Pro, which sometimes brings me down to %65 - %69, but it usually doesn't last long. I think I have it nailed down. I think it comes from certain apps that seem to run themselves. I have auto sync off, and I've DONE MY RESEARCH (some of which, I've yet to comprehend) I know not to use a task killer to routinely kill apps, and I know how the OS works, and allocates its RAM. So, I won't even worry about it if someone says these levels are normal.
Any tips on what I should do with my new phone? I saw a video that I can't find again, where this guy had his homescreen set up in such away, that the apps made this 3d cube of tiny boxes (apps) that moved like a rubik's cube. HOW DO I DO THAT!? It's not in any of the launchers I've tried. Anyways, thank you once again, XDA, you guys are awesome. I'm just a newb. Thank you to the users who made the guides!!

Thank you Julz! I have read your guide thoroughly. I know to search, and research before asking questions. Like I said, I'm just slightly still confused. Did I not put a custom ROM on my phone when I rooted it?
Do I have to factory restore, or uninstall the current ROM in some way before getting another?
Also, I think I fixed the RAM issue. What is normal levels for my device? I can't find normal RAM levels listed anywhere on the net for my device.
Read the first link in my signature as an addition to Juls' guide. After rooting GB you need a custom kernel. Look for SGS Kernel Flasher in either guide to take your next step.
I think you should research more. But to help you a bit...
How you rooted your phone? You know about ClockWorkMod Recovery? Know about Odin or Heimdall?
Also, there is a section in Setting that tells a lot of your phone that is called About Phone.

I used Heimdall to do this, as per the video guide I followed. I just downloaded Odin, for future tasks. I love the Norse theme to this stuff, I know the Eddas practically by heart, as well as the elder Futhark, and actual history of the ancient Scandanavian Vikings.
Be sure to keep your ODIN and Heimdall ports seperate. You can get by with CWM for custom ROM's now except to recover or clean your phone up. Read the Gremlin Remover thread to consider using after a custom ROM flash or two. Your other option is KJ6 Heimdall One-Click.

Thank you very much for the tip. Advice heeded! Now, do you know anything about my ram? Why my Go Task mnger is always reading that my RAM is almost always above 70% used?
Read the guide I mentioned above. Get on a custom ROM. Then look at RAM. You are on stock bloated ROM at the moment.

I've read the guides, the only thing I don't understand about that process, is that, will I need to set up all my apps again, am I starting my phone from scratch? Which ROM would you personally suggest?

It is best to start fresh when flashing a new ROM. A lot of apps have back up features within the app for settings and such (i.e. GoLauncher).
I recommend Valhalla Black. But all the 2.3.6 ROM's are great.

One more thing. You say start from scratch... Factory Reset? So I will need to root again? Also, I had to unlock the phone to use with ATT. Will I have to do that again?
I mean with your apps. Factory reset won't unroot you. It isn't a bad idea to do a factory reset between flashings as a precautionary measure.
You shouldn't have to unlock again either.

I'm on ATT as well and flash my phone all the time. I've never lost the unlock.

Trying to back up my efs folder, using Astro File Manager... says it cannot do it! I guess this means I need something that requests superuser permissions?
Any program you would recommend? or can I just do it manually with my computer, like save it on my comp or something?
I recommend starting where it talks about SGS Kernel Flasher. Then once you have the custom kernel with CWM - do and nandroid back up and save the nandroid back up on your computer for safe keeping. That will have your efs folder within it. And I recommended Super Manager

I guess the kernel I have, doesn't have CWM. So, if I flash a new one, do I need to delete the one I have first or anything? Or just go about flashing a new one, like I never did one in the first place? I can try to find the video guide I followed if you think it will help.
