I have an odd problem. I'm running the latest Whitehawkx MIUI, and sometimes when I push the power button to use the phone, it will flash the unlock screen for a fraction of a second and then go to a black screen. Not that the screen is off, the LCD is running, but displaying black. I push power again, the screen loses power and goes to full black. I push it again, most of the time it works like it should. Sometimes it repeats the problem.
And good god, calls are almost unmanageable. The screen does not turn on when someone calls me, ever. I have to push power, wade through the flash-to-black, and then answer the call.
This has been happening on every version of MIUI I've run, I'm only now getting around to posting a thread about it now.
Bump

Yes I am... I never thought of that but it makes sense. I should note that I do not experience this problem on any other rom, just Miui.
I am going to disable set CPU and see if that improves anything though. It's a shame, Tasker can't modify the CPU on this phone, otherwise I'd just have it up the clock speed when a call is incoming.

If you have a screen off profile then it would kick in during a phone call when the screen goes off. I always set up a separate In Call profile for that very reason and give it a higher priority than the screen off profile.

I've already done exactly that, I'm more worried about being able to answer the call in the first place.

A lockscreen activated by a combo keypress (vol up+down?) which locks the screen on whatever you're looking at including screen brightness and position, so you might hand your phone over to someone without accidently hitting back or having the screen shutoff whilst trying to show them a pic or what have you. I.E. a freeze frame. Then same keypress to unlock. Forgive me if this exists already, I didn't feel like searching kinda buzzed. Mostly want it for weapon, mostly.

Doesn't exist but for future reference, post things like this in the questions forum.
I have no idea what you're talking about? You just want a different combination to lock the phone other than the native lock button at the top of the phone?

I understand what you mean, but just set the screen timeout to a longer duration.

I think he wants quick access to this function though also he doesn't want the screen on all the time after he let's whoever borrow it. I think this would work better with toggles on screen more then anything

Freeze the phone screen on whatever is there not allowing screen timeout, screen position change, key or touchscreen presses (excluding activate and deactivate freeze frame). Basically freeze the phone in its current state until you resume.

Basically make it so the phone is unresponsive until the button combo is pressed again? It's out there, I'll look for it.
EDIT: I'm having a hard time finding it, but if I come across it, I'll post it.
Anybody else experiencing this problem: When I get an incoming call, it takes an awful lot of time before the screen wakes up and I can answer the call. This only started to happen recently. I'm talking like at least five seconds when it's already ringing. I'm on FB's Valhalla Rom, with Anton's kernel installed.
Another thing comes to mind: when the screen eventually wakes up, it takes another couple of seconds before my contact's name is displayed, before that I only get the phone number.
I had that problem on the stock 2.3.6 ROM w/ Bryan's latest kernel. I just changed to AntonX's [KERNEL] Almost Basic SGS4G KJ6 1.0 Beta4 and, thus far, I seem to be back to normal.
Okay, I updated to the last version of Anton's kernel. So now I'm waiting for someone to call mee lol
Cool. Let me know how it goes.
Does anyone know how to turn off the screen for incoming phone calls?

What Kernel are you using?
I've had this problem off and on ever since we got Gingerbread. Stock ROM, custom ROM and every GB kernel posted here... I've come to believe it's a problem from the Google source code, similar to the one that cause people to lose/never get sms sometimes.
I think it's some kind of memory management problem... I've had it happen the most when playing a game or running resource intensive applications.

One thing that really turns me away from Google Music is that there's no option to keep the screen on. I use a car dock and I hate to unlock the screen to change the song. :banghead:
I'm using PowerAmp right now, but I want to use Google Music. I want to like it, I really do, if there's any way to fix this please let me know.

You can use an app like Tasker to set your timeout to "infinite" when you have Google Music on. That way, your screen will always stay on as long as Google Music is running and when you exit the app your timeout settings should return to the way they were.
If you are also charging the device while in the car dock another option would be go to settings display & gestures and check the 3rd box down stay awake then the screen will not turn off while on charge. Sorry if I'm stating something that you already new just wanted to throw it out there

Thanks! I've been looking into Tasker but I'm afraid of the reviews saying it's extremely hard to learn.

I tried this before but the thing is, I don't want my screen staying on all night if something happens or it wakes to the lock screen somehow. Isn't that bad for the screen? Burning the image or something?

It's not hard to learn at all if you're only looking at basic functionality (like...if this is open, do this, this, and this). It's really intuitive. If you just play with it for like 30 minutes you'll know enough to get yourself going.

I use my phone as my alarm clock on my night stand with the app called deskclock + which has a night mode so I never had to worry about damaging the screen.

I say go with Tasker. Especially if you're going with something as rudimentary as "when google music is playing, keep the screen on" you shouldn't have any issue creating this task.
Not too familiar with the ROMs or mods available for this device, but if there's an AOSP lockscreen mod, or a ROM that offers the AOSP lockscreen (maybe through a Tweaks app?), you should get music controls on the lockscreen, so you can skip/pause from the lockscreen, without unlocking
Hi Folks
I have a stock HOX, over the last month or two sense has been getting veeerrrryy sloooow, so slow that when flipping between home screens I actually have to stop and wait as the screens judder across. This usually happens when I start using the phone after not haveing interacted with it for an hour or two or when it has just been turned on if it was off for some reason...
Most of the slowness goes after a couple of minutes, except for on the home button, most of the time I press it and nothing hapens so I press again and again, then all of a sudden all the home presses act at once at the screens start flipping around like crazy!
Also if the phone is on charge and screen is off I usually have to press the power button several times before the screen will trn on again...
Another issue that seems to also be cropping up is, especially while on charge, the phone will jsut turn itself off! Sometimes itwill restart again by itself, sometimes it doesnt!
Anyone have any solution to get my phone back in good health?
Ta

Ummm, I don't know... where can I find that setting? I do usually have power save on if that would enable the cpu speed change...though I also meant to mention that even with this on my battery performance seems to be getting worse and worse
What Rom? Typically its in a performance setting or done using a 3rd party app.

Bah! Egg on my face! Clearly I didn't read attentively enough.
My apologies. Your options are to factory reset or RUU, if neither of those work, It's a hardware issue.
Factory reset. I would also try another launcher to see if it behaves the same. I (still) have problems with sense being choppy but ONLY when I use the Yahoo mail official app, for some reason slows down the system considerably. I stopped using it all together and use the stock sense mail app and everything is going well now. You might have a rogue app, so i would try a reset.

I'm hoping that this isn't a unique problem just for me but this is literally the first time I've had this problem. Depending on the use of my Note 5 will determine if I can even unlock my phone the next time I turn it on. I'll go about my usual use of any phone should be able to accomplish (browsing Instagram/Facebook/Chrome/Email/Pinterest/etc.). After a little while it become noticeable that the phone is starting to slow down considerably if I continue to use it. However, the one that really grinds my gears is I'll do my typical browsing and then lock my phone, put it back in my pocket. Something we all do, however, the next time I go to pull out my phone I can't even get the screen to come on for sometimes five minutes. I can hear it thinking with random sounds of the lock screen either responding to my fingers touching the screen or the un/lock sound but nothing happens. Sometimes, I can see the screen and all the notifications that I want to check on but nothing is happening. Sometimes, I'll double tap the home button to get to the camera shortcut programmed to it and sometimes the camera app comes up like it should but it is completely unresponsive.
So the steps I've tried to resolve the issue:
Restore to Stock ROM
Different ROMs
Even leaving the Stock ROM alone and just seeing if it still occurs
I'm just not sure what to try next. There's a chance the problem could be a memory error that's occurring physically but I'm not 100% sure.
Attached is my Note 5's current state of customization. Any help with this would be very very much appreciated.
Thank you

Have you removed or disabled any system files? Also have you tweaked the kernel in any way?
I will say that I've had issue with v11 of that kernel you are using. I bounce between v4.1 and Sky-high v4.5 depending on what I need my phone for that day.

I will give those a try. Thank you!
