Sense getting very slow, restarts itself sometimes - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi Folks
I have a stock HOX, over the last month or two sense has been getting veeerrrryy sloooow, so slow that when flipping between home screens I actually have to stop and wait as the screens judder across. This usually happens when I start using the phone after not haveing interacted with it for an hour or two or when it has just been turned on if it was off for some reason...
Most of the slowness goes after a couple of minutes, except for on the home button, most of the time I press it and nothing hapens so I press again and again, then all of a sudden all the home presses act at once at the screens start flipping around like crazy!
Also if the phone is on charge and screen is off I usually have to press the power button several times before the screen will trn on again...
Another issue that seems to also be cropping up is, especially while on charge, the phone will jsut turn itself off! Sometimes itwill restart again by itself, sometimes it doesnt!
Anyone have any solution to get my phone back in good health?
Ta

Do you have the cpu speed changed to 192mhz when screens off?

Ummm, I don't know... where can I find that setting? I do usually have power save on if that would enable the cpu speed change...though I also meant to mention that even with this on my battery performance seems to be getting worse and worse

What Rom? Typically its in a performance setting or done using a 3rd party app.

Bah! Egg on my face! Clearly I didn't read attentively enough.
My apologies. Your options are to factory reset or RUU, if neither of those work, It's a hardware issue.

Factory reset. I would also try another launcher to see if it behaves the same. I (still) have problems with sense being choppy but ONLY when I use the Yahoo mail official app, for some reason slows down the system considerably. I stopped using it all together and use the stock sense mail app and everything is going well now. You might have a rogue app, so i would try a reset.

Touch screen lag

When I unlock my phone and immediately tap an icon nothing happens. I know I've read that other people have had this problem. Has anyone figured out what causes it
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Never hears of that, when I immediately click on something after I unlock my tn it opens the app no problem
I've tried many Roms and keep having the problem. Even tried different kernels and governors. I don't think it happened for the first week I had it.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
You'll notice that it happens when your phone is plugged in. I don't know the reason for it, but I'm pretty sure it's a bug with the phone itself.
It happens even when it's not plugged in. Every time. It's not even a once in a while thing.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
This also happens if you under clock very low with screen off. Then its slow to wake up, get notifications, and react.
I thought about that too. I don't have any profiles set and it still happens. Oh well. Thanks for the suggestion. If I can't figure it out I'll unroot and go exchange it.
Are using the sense launcher ?
-Monky_1
I had tried sense, launcher, adw, adw ex, and launcher pro. All with the same problem. Somehow this morning its back to how it should be. I have no idea what I did.

Are you running a task killer, antivirus, or setcpu? If yes to any of them that could be causing your problem.
I removed setcpu, and lookout and restarted and it still wasn't better so I put them back on. But today its still better for the first time in a week. Only thing I did different was pull the battery. Hopefully it keeps working.

I tried this on my lock screen and it worked.

Try it at own risk, I am not responsible for any problems. It worked for me
This is my second sensation with the same issue. I got my second sensation approximately 6 days ago, after my first sensation developed the lock screen issues. Well today I started to experience the same lock screen issues that plagued my first sensation. Well I did a little checking around and I think I might have found a solution to the problem. I have an app installed called mybackup pro. I have been using this app for a while and it has come in real handy in restoring my phone. There is a free version available in the market. I used the paid version. I opened mybackup pro, and I just like to say that I DON'T HAVE anything to do with the app in regards to any monetary gain, basically I just use the app. I opened the ap, i clicked on cancel for the password, clicked on back up, data, local (/mnt/sdcard) check all, and let it back up all the settings. Well I went into my settings/applications/manageapplications/all. i then clicked on the first htc sense tab and cleared the data. You will be prompted with something to the pop up stating that all the applications data will be permanently deleted. I clicked ok and then clicked on the second htc sense tab and did the same thing. You will notice that all your widgets and everything will be deleted from your phone. I rebooted my phone and then opened mybackup pro and clicked on restore, data, local (/mnt/sdcard), data and the most resent date, I ONLY CHECKED MARKED SYSTEM SETTINGS, ANDROID HOME, AND CLICKED ON OK. Let it do its thing and when it is finished it will ask you to reboot your phone. Your phone should be extremely close to the way you had it before (widget wise). And in my case my lock screen is working again. I hope this helps anyone else. Again, It worked for me.

Please update this thread periodically even if your method doesn't work.
Did this allow sense to operate more smoothly on your device?
I don't even understand what the issue was meant to be in the first place!!
Sorry for the long entry but i was trying to be as specific as i possibly could for everyone, and yes my lock screen responds perfectly.
This post was meant for anyone experiencing lockscreen unresponsiveness on their phones.

I already tried clearing the data from both Sense applications and then rebooted my phone. I didn't make a back up of everything so Sense was back to the way it came from the factory. Long story short. It didn't work for me. I still had the lock screen issue.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
also another trick to faulty lockscreen found on another post, when the phone lay flat on table lock seems to be trouble to unlock unless u pick the phone up in ur hands...but if u have it laying on table flat and grab left side of lock and drag it to the left and the up it works everytime for me...seems the left part of the lockscreen is always ok lol (something to do with phone being grounded)
Ok, the only difference is that I restored my settings using mybackup pro. Could that have been the difference.

I think the way the app and ring move together is what causes the lock issue. I think its just the physics of the ring/app moving together causing the issue. Thats my guess. Other than the lockscreen buggy I have no touch screen issues. YOU?
Wifi problem and as of today the lock screen issue started. He lockscreen issue has been resolved.

Yup, I think I agree with that. There are some issues that just don't make any sense though. Why does it become responsive after touching the ring two to three times. It will stay responsive like it should until you turn the display off. I just can't wrap my finger around it.
Could it be something with sense?

Probably is. I seriously don't know why everyone praises HTC. They are going in the wrong direction with Sense. Instead of making it less intrusive, there making it more intrusive with SENSELESS eye candy. HTC needs to take a page out of Samsung's book in my opinion. There making there UI (Touch Wiz) less intrusive but still keeping the features that make Android better.
Sorry to say but this 3D eye candy isn't making anything better and it's quite obvious HTC half assed Sense 3.0.

Are you charging this via the stock charger, or via USB pc? If using a wall charger is the outlet grounded or the old two prong style outlet? I had this issue when using the stock charger in an ungrounded outlet when I was at a friends house for the week.

Yes i am using the stock charger
I don't know if this works for you guys .. but I had that lockscreen issue as well. I noticed that when I play with my wifes phone its perfectly smooth and unlocks with a single swipe. And she can unlock mine easily and never been a problem. The only thing difference is that she didn't take off that screen protector. I have oily skin type so I guess it must be my finger getting sticky. Went to tmobile and got a screen protector and it solves all the problem. Sounds silly but it worked for me and I haven't had a single lockscreen issue in four days as opposed to 4 out of five times before. Hope this helps ..

Multi tasking not really

If you have not noticed the one x is not really multi tasking. My GN does multi tasking different.
When I switch to an app on the GN, it freezes that state of that app and when I switch back to it, it's where I left off.
On the one x, it refreshes the app, not freeze it.
Is this something that can hacked to get it to work like the GN?
^This. O/S is randomly killing apps. I've frozen every possible culprit, switched launchers, etc. Keeps happening. I think it's HTC's battery paranoia and they've done something in the Kernel.

Yea I think a lot of us noticed this.
My biggest issue is the message app. When I go into, all of the messages display the numbers and not the name. It'll take a good 2-3 seconds before it refreshes and replace the numbers with names. This bothers me the most!
I've noticed it as well. It's really frustrating when you're listening to a podcast and Pocket Casts just dies. It's probably something in memory management. There's a tool floating around somewhere that lets you tinker with these values, I'll have to find it.
hmm i was wondering about this too. i thought ics was supposed to have really great multitasking but my ipad does multitasking way better in this case (resuming a game exactly where you were instead of just restarting it like it does now... really it's the same as just going and launching the app again...) come to think about it, its basically the same as the old hold down home and see the recently launched apps in gingerbread. would love to see it really resume apps that were closed...
Could this be why Pandora sometimes plays first second or so and then buffering to new sing? Lol never happened before now

Phone slowdown/lag

When I tried the phone in-store and for the first few days, the transitions between homescreens were silky smooth with every homescreen loaded with widgets. Now it feels like the phone is bogging down. I'm getting lag between all of the homescreens. I've uninstalled every app I've downloaded, and a factory reset hasn't helped. Am I the only one?

Maybe it's running out of RAM and caches are getting dumped as a result.
Factory reset and let it sit for 5 minutes. Use a Ruu to go back to stock
I was actually going to post something very similar. It's very noticeably when going from the home screen to the app drawer.
Phone was amazingly smooth through everything. Now, it lags a bit. Seems like its a memory management issue.
Pretty annoying to say the least!

Is this update officially out yet? I just tried to update my phone and it says its up to date.
Same thing is happening to mine. I just reloaded the 1.82 RUU yesterday and did a factory reset before and after the install. It's still doing it. I don't understand why.
Is AT&T or HTC aware of the issue? I'd rather nor void my warranty to fix this.

I called HTC and they said to uninstall my apps. But the problem is that I just factory reset my phone!!! Does anyone know when the 1.82 update will come to the HOX officially?
OTA update on 5/28...I think...don't know what all is included though..

Lag from hone to app screen is because memory management. It doesn't cache the contents and so every time you wait a bit it'll have to reload it. Dumb but hardly an issue.
You can test this by hitting the drawer. Watching it lag. Hitting home and hitting the drawer again and watch it react perfectly. Wait ten minutes and it'll lag again. It has to do with multitasking.

This seems like a decent explanation. The multitasking on the One x is really bad so this doesn't surprise me. I really hope HTC makes an update for this.
That does seem like a plausible explanations. Here's hoping this gets fixed soon
Nevermind........
Op, try using autotuner from the okay store and experiment with some of the values and see if your phone runs quicker.

Phone is becoming unresponsive about 15-20 minutes after reboot

Hello,
Hard reset, factory. My one x is becoming unresponsive and sluggish, usually about 20 minutes after a reboot. I have nothing on this phone. we're just using the web browser, and touches don't register. I thought that it may be a screen defect, and it still may well be. But it seems odd to me that after a fresh reboot, or by turning off the phone and letting it "chill out" the phone becomes responsive again.
Basically how do I tell if this is a hardware defect or a software defect? I am locked, running at&t 1.85 stock. I have tried the hardware tests and of course everything passes.
Thanks
Did you try the ruu yet and if it still happens probably the digitizer or whatever has a defect

Do you have fastboot enabled still? I don't think you'll get true, full reboot if it is. You've not down loaded any apps or anything? Was it doing this since you bought the phone or did it start occurring just out of the blue? I'm assuming your not rooted or anything, right?
It's a rather odd issue that I've never heard of before.

To find out if the touchscreen is registering touches, do this when it starts becoming sluggish:
Go to settings -> developer options -> pointer location
See if whenever you touch the phone it overlays a blue line.

The "Fast boot" option in Setting/Power only apply to powering off, than on again. Holding down the power button, then selecting Restart will give you a true reboot, even with fast boot enabled.

Thanks alot. I am still investigating this. I thought that I did not have any third party apps installed, but it looks like the culprit may be Virtua Tennis.
I have found that some Android apps even after closed or reboot still take control of certain aspects of the phone. The pin ball games do it. Its not until I delete them does it stop.
