Phone is becoming unresponsive about 15-20 minutes after reboot - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello,
Hard reset, factory. My one x is becoming unresponsive and sluggish, usually about 20 minutes after a reboot. I have nothing on this phone. we're just using the web browser, and touches don't register. I thought that it may be a screen defect, and it still may well be. But it seems odd to me that after a fresh reboot, or by turning off the phone and letting it "chill out" the phone becomes responsive again.
Basically how do I tell if this is a hardware defect or a software defect? I am locked, running at&t 1.85 stock. I have tried the hardware tests and of course everything passes.
Thanks

Did you try the ruu yet and if it still happens probably the digitizer or whatever has a defect

Do you have fastboot enabled still? I don't think you'll get true, full reboot if it is. You've not down loaded any apps or anything? Was it doing this since you bought the phone or did it start occurring just out of the blue? I'm assuming your not rooted or anything, right?
It's a rather odd issue that I've never heard of before.

To find out if the touchscreen is registering touches, do this when it starts becoming sluggish:
Go to settings -> developer options -> pointer location
See if whenever you touch the phone it overlays a blue line.

The "Fast boot" option in Setting/Power only apply to powering off, than on again. Holding down the power button, then selecting Restart will give you a true reboot, even with fast boot enabled.

Thanks alot. I am still investigating this. I thought that I did not have any third party apps installed, but it looks like the culprit may be Virtua Tennis.

I have found that some Android apps even after closed or reboot still take control of certain aspects of the phone. The pin ball games do it. Its not until I delete them does it stop.

No more lock screen

I have looked through the posts and I did not see this issue previously reported. I let my phone run out of power two nights ago. Ever since then my phone will not lock. If I try to manually lock it, the screen just turns off. If the screen times out, that is all that happens. I have rebooted, both fast and full, no change. Any advice?

try taking the battery out.
Tried a battery pull. The first screen is locked after turning on, but after unlocking, the original problem persists. Thanks. Next idea?

Great user name!
hello
hello factory reset
How do your settings look under Security > Lock Phone After? I don't remember what the default setting there was, but if you have anything other than "Immediately" it won't lock until that defined time. For example, I have mine set to 5 minutes so I can still jump into my phone (not literally, of course) after powering the screen off without having to unlock it. It's just a convenience thing for me.
Hopefully that does the trick for you. Keeping my fingers crossed.
So odd. The "lock after" option is only visible if I select a pattern or password. I chose immediately, unselected the pattern, and now the lock works, although that option disappeared again. Thanks everyone for your help, I'll let you know if this holds.

Touch screen becomes completely unresponsive

My touch screen some times becomes unresponsive after playing Home Run Battle and Plants vs. Zombies. Its only the touch that becomes unresponsive but my accelerometer still works. I have to restart the phone in order to fix it.

i had a lot of problems when i used advanced task killer on my phone similar to urs. If your using a task killer uninstall it and pull battery on phone then pop it in and boot up again see if it happens.
I definitely had this happen the other day. I wasn't playing any games and I don't have any task killers installed. I was in the middle of a text message when a call came through. I answered the call and then tried to resume my text but nothing was responding. I was still able to flip the phone sideways but I couldn't tap anything at all. I had to do a restart. That was frustrating and I hope it was a one time thing!
I found out that mine was a app called juice defender......it was messing mine up really bad.....uninstalled it and my phone responds....perfect now!!!!!

yeah a lot of people r complaining about hardware and software on HTC's side, but a lot of it has to do with these phones still being pretty new alot of devs havent had the time to make their apps fully compatible with our sensations
I had the same problem yesterday, everything but the screen working, however rather than rebooting, i found that i could pull the top bar down then back up and screen worked again
this is because phone is overheating and the screen gives problems.
I think another charger will resolve this problem or if its `SW problem, OTA will be released...

Your right. It only happens after my phone heats up from gaming for a while. It also happens when the phone is not on its charger.

I had the same problem (not those same games but in some apps and the security pattern lock). I just disabled the Tell HTC option and haven't had a problem since.
EDIT: Wait, when did PvZ come out for Android??

Awhile ago. It's on the Amazon Appstore.
My screen doesn't become unresponsive if I play PvZ, but if I play it for too long, Sense reloads when I exit out of the game.

Random screen timeout........anyone else experiencing this?

Unrooted with latest ota and the screen just times out at random times. No matter what screen timeout is set on. Any help is appreciated.

Sometimes I've got a case when screen doesn't time out at all. Including on latest 4.5.608 update. Reboot fixes it for me. Have you tried rebooting (with taking battery out before powering it on again to make sure it is a true cold boot)?
No I haven't, my case, makes it hard to do a battery pull, guess im just lazy. Will let you know the results. Thanks for the quick response

It's likely a bug of some sort. Hardware and software are so complex, it is impossible to make it perfect. But problems like this one aren't "turning the cart over" especially if they occur rather seldom and there is (somewhat) acceptable "workaround".
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using Tapatalk
Could be simpler?
My wife recently switched from Iphone 2G to a blazing droid 2 G, she was all happiness, but recently she started to complain the same thing your talking about (random screen timeout), so I tried his phone but the problem do not happened when I was using the phone, so after some intriguing days, I found something...
When she uses the phone, sometimes inadvertently she was blocking the sensors (in the upper right frame) that are triggered when you are in a call, causing immediately lock screen.
So, after being more cautious about not to block this part of the screen the problem didn't happen again.
I hope every one else suffers this simple problem instead of having a real hardware issue.
Saludos.
Just disable in-pocket detection.
Download Screebl from the Market. It can detect when your phone I actively being used and prevents screen timeouts until you put the phone down. Great app, I think you'll find it useful.
Gonna try the screebl app out, sounds pretty useful

Mytouch 4g slide keeps freezing

Hey all, i don't know if there's already a thread about this but i did a quick search and didn't really find one about my problem.
Anyways, my girlfriend has a mytouch 4g slide and it keeps freezing on her. If she's in a call, she can stay in the call but won't be able to hang up or use the screen in any way until a restart. She is completely stock. This is the second mytouch for her with the same problem. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Well when I was stock, I never had any problems like this. I have heard about people having screen freezes with regards to the call screen, however. It could easily be one of the apps that she downloaded. It might be worth it to try a factory reset if the problem is persistent. Not to mention that sounds like a pretty annoying issue.
Yeah, we tried a factory reset before and it didn't work.

Huh, I talked to her more about this issue and it seems that it only freezes during a call. She didn't realize it until I asked her specifically about it. So any way to fix this issue.

If a factory reset doesn't solve your problem, you have two options:
Root and install a custom rom (could be a stock rom problem, even though it shouldn't be)
Get it replaced under warranty
is the device completely frozen, or can she get the screen to turn on by pressing the trackpad or something? come to think of it, the sensor doesn't seem to work perfectly on my device, so sometimes when i want to hang up a call, i need to press the trackpad to get the screen to turn on. i have never had the device become totally unresponsive tho.
Well, she says the screen is on but nothing happens when she taps it. The only way so far to get her phone to work again is a battery pull.
This is already a warranty replaced phone for the same problem. I would root her phone, but she is in San Francisco and I'm not. She is also not very tech savvy so she can't do it herself.

Have her try using GO! Dailer/Contacts. I know this issue is based within the Call Out screen. But try using GO! It can also an out of Ram issue. On stock, the more widgets you use. The worse the phone gets. You'll see that HTC Logo all the time. My Uncle has this phone, and he's 100% stock. He gets freezes, and the HTC Logo screen after every app. Since the phone has the highest priority in a call, in can be using to much RAM. Then the phones doing a Rosie reboot with out the HTC scrreen.
If she wants to. Install Zeam Launcher. She won't have any Sense widgets. But it'll free up about 120Mb of Ram. Then place the call, and see if it lags.

After a warranty replacement for my old phone, I haven't had time to fight rooting and have been experiencing similar issues... Memory mgmt seems to be cause. Ive removed some apps and it has reduced issues.
On initial use of phone, I reset it, inserted a full battery and followed the general "let it set" rules for a fresh rom install. At first, all was great, everything worked perfect. But as I added apps, it grew less stable. Also seeing phone freeze when rebooting into recovery... Eek. Tried multiple sd cards, batteries, to no avail.
Gonna call for another replacement. Ugh. Wrty is up in a couple months...

I've had a couple of freezes happen to me during phone calls and I realize what the problem was. It was apps automatically downloading in the background from the Play Store. If an auto update for apps is happening and I receive a phone call at the same time my phone will become unresponsive for a few minutes.

So this GO! Dialer, would it help with the freezing issue? I don't see how using another app would help with the memory issue. Does Zeam Launcher require root?

Sense getting very slow, restarts itself sometimes

Hi Folks
I have a stock HOX, over the last month or two sense has been getting veeerrrryy sloooow, so slow that when flipping between home screens I actually have to stop and wait as the screens judder across. This usually happens when I start using the phone after not haveing interacted with it for an hour or two or when it has just been turned on if it was off for some reason...
Most of the slowness goes after a couple of minutes, except for on the home button, most of the time I press it and nothing hapens so I press again and again, then all of a sudden all the home presses act at once at the screens start flipping around like crazy!
Also if the phone is on charge and screen is off I usually have to press the power button several times before the screen will trn on again...
Another issue that seems to also be cropping up is, especially while on charge, the phone will jsut turn itself off! Sometimes itwill restart again by itself, sometimes it doesnt!
Anyone have any solution to get my phone back in good health?

Ummm, I don't know... where can I find that setting? I do usually have power save on if that would enable the cpu speed change...though I also meant to mention that even with this on my battery performance seems to be getting worse and worse
What Rom? Typically its in a performance setting or done using a 3rd party app.

Bah! Egg on my face! Clearly I didn't read attentively enough.
My apologies. Your options are to factory reset or RUU, if neither of those work, It's a hardware issue.
Factory reset. I would also try another launcher to see if it behaves the same. I (still) have problems with sense being choppy but ONLY when I use the Yahoo mail official app, for some reason slows down the system considerably. I stopped using it all together and use the stock sense mail app and everything is going well now. You might have a rogue app, so i would try a reset.
