Really hot when using cm7 - HTC Sensation

Anyone else's sensation getting quite hot while running cm7? Iv got no custom kernel running just the regular included kernel clocked at 1.2 :S it can get really hot sometimes and I'm not running anything intensive maybe just playing some music and browsing the xda app most iv done is play a 2D game

Depending on the ROM and what your doing with the phone, it can get very hot. I'm now using Android Revolution HD, however with insertcoin, when I would use my phone a lot, the battery got super super hot.

I hate to point out the obvious, but isn't the common denominator the battery? Maybe our batteries are faulty. I'm running a stock Sensation and my battery gets hot too when charging or when the screen is on for a little while.

mine is usually at the bottom of my screen. weird i know. i even read it happens to others to on the bottom of the screens

While charging it is normal. Because now everything is getting slimmer and slimmer all the parts are getting closer and this is the result. Every battery gets warm when you charge it, some more some less. It is not a defect.

Q - Heat during charging

got my brand new shiny sensation this morning - put it on charge and it got extreemly hot ,.... ive ended up sending it back to amazon and gone down to my local 3 store and purchased one from there ....... (Not had much luck this week as i have had 2 x galaxy s2 which were horrendous poor speaker and screen rubbish so i ended up sacking that idea off and went for the sensation and the one arrived and this appeared faulty) question is was i just unlucky or is there a heat problem ... it was that bad i couldnt get the sim out and the phone switched off ... ive not put my new one on charge yet as i want to be in when i do just in case
any idea;s ...
great phone btw ... not as quick but at least i can put stuff on memory card direct without it corrupting and i dont need software to update the firmware like you do on samsung ....
Mine doesn't get hot, maybe slightly warm would be the term.
My phone got so hot on the 3rd or 4th charge that I burnt my hand on it, it was charging overnight but battery was still empty in the morning so I returned it and the new one seems ok so far
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
ive never really had a heat problem , it gets warm if ive been using it heavily and then put in pocket ,but most of time it goes away in a few minutes
depends on the day. If its a hot day out, charging gets to like 104 degrees, on a cool day, it will stay in the upper 90S. Like 97 degrees.
Mines been a lil warm lately, so I hard reset it and it seems much better. Must have been a app it didnt like.
my was mega hot ... i couldnt even take out my sim ... i got one from 3 and have it on charge its cold ... which is good
it was a little hot when i had the screen on , obviously there was a fault with the one from amazon
cheers all
My case got pretty hot the first day that I had it, but I was using it heavily and charging it at the same time. Since then it only seems to warm up when i'm playing games. It's almost as if some of the components needed to "burn in" or something like that. It makes sense in my twisted head but it doesn't.
My new phoneI I got yesterday don't get hot at all. I was gaming and and charging yesterday the highest it went was 37.7c .. my previous sensation while never overheated. Stayed between 38' and 45'.

Mine gets pretty hot when I'm playing games or while watchin a movie connected to that tv bt it cools down right after tho, idk, I'm sticking wit it tho as there r no other problems with it being reported in the forum

Same thing happen to mine, I left it on the charger then went to sleep, I woke and checked my phone it was burning hot. But for the sake of the phone i took everything out even if it was really hot

Any of you claiming it doesn't *FEEL* hot, put it on the charger and browse the web for a few minutes then go to phone and put in *#*#4636#*#* and click battery... mine hit 43C... Idle its still 28C which is about 7 higher than my G2x and my G2x while playing Pinball HD on the charger only hits 36C... HUGE difference and a LiIon battery hitting that high - it can explode at 55-60. Pretty much means overclocking is out of the question.

It shuts down after a certain temperature. So it won't explode.

I had this issue. But I found the cause.
I used a duel usb charger and it made my sensation and wildfire warm around 40 degrees celcius. So I switched the usb adapter supplied by HTC and doesn't go above 34 degrees c

just got my new sensation and discovered that charging/overheating problem.
for me the problem seems to be the charger itself. phone doesn't charges from it and gets crazy hot INSTANTLY. and when i'm unplugging charger inpanic, phone gets restarted.
Nevertheless, it changes fine from USB or my old Desire charger using the same cable from sensation package.
so, original charger seems to be broken.
(don't actually want to try in on my old, but still much more alive Desire)

Sensation heating up!

So my sensation started heating up quickly to about 39C and only cools down to about 30+.
I'm running the stock 2.3.4, rooted with S-OFF.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

With the weather we are having this week 39c isnt bad at all. During heavy use I saw 46c once on the stock battery before changing to an Anker (which feel cooler to the touch), and that was in much cooler weather
As long as it stays below 50c under heavy usage its perfectly normal for a sensation in my oppinion.
Cheers

The weather is amazing! Makes u want to strip & run naked
Where did you buy your Anker from? Amazon? And if I flashed a custom ROM or a different kernel, would it solve the problem?

Yep, bought it from amazon...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-1900mAh-Li-ion-Battery-Sensation/dp/B0053EZJMC/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1
Note: battery widgets/monitors report the wrong temperature on 3rd party batteries with the sensation. The back of the phone feels much cooler to the touch though under heavy use so its definitely running cooler than the stock battery.
If you underclocked the phone it would probably run cooler then, but I really wouldnt worry about the heat unless your seeing temps of 50c+ on the stock battery.
Cheers

Powerskins

Has anyone tried out the powerskin for the sensation?
http://www.shop.power-skin.com/powerskin/htc/sensation
i have one. its nice but it gets really hot while using your phone. the heat doesn't disperse through the powerskin well. which seems to drain both batteries a bit. for instance the powerskin is almost empty if i use the phone after 30 min. even though it is much larger than my battery. somethings wrong. but having extra powers is nice and it doesnt touch the screen or mess up the screen protector.
Mod please move to proper section.

How's the size, thickness?
It's about 3/4 of an inch. If you have small pockets the size and silicon case might present problems pulling the phone out, but I have loose clothing so its not a problem. You do have the option to take the case off and use it only to recharge a dead/dying OEM batt.

Literally got mine yesterday morning from the USA.
It's about as big as I expected, and thats pretty big. I already have an Anker battery, but in all fairness I haven't seen much of a difference in battery life with it over the stock HTC battery; that could be because 1) I didn't really test out the stock HTC battery. 2) I never calibrated it properly.
Anyhow, I am addicted to my phone, so I use it a lot and my emails are set to PUSH from the server. I have wifi on a lot e.t.c.. So when I use it a lot I expect it to last somewhere in the region of 5-7 hours.
Now back to the point, with this POwerskin, I no longer fear using my phone out and about, especially when I need to get in contact with the girlfriend! It lasts far longer, so I am pleased with it. I haven't really tested it fully yet, because I do not know whether to have my Powerskin charging my phone in the background, so it sort of trickle charges the normal battery. OR, turn it on when my phone gets really low :/
Good nonetheless!

Weird overheat..

Never had this issue before ..
When i use my phone normally it heats up real quickly im using the 1900mah anker battery but it wasn't like this before the other day..
I forgot my phone in the car and when i took it back it was extremely hot because of the sun but since then it overheats i tried changing clock speeds aswell changing rom.. so im sure its not the roms..

Try changing to a different kernel, they have better temperature control/redundancies than the stock kernels (which I'm assuming you're using due to your sig )
Try Faux or Bricked, they're in the Dev thread.
Battery could be damaged because of the extreme heat? Just a thought but it shouldn't happen though.

It happened to me on my STOCK battery. I switched out battery to Anker and its NEVER happened since. Sort of leads my to believe it is related to the battery. My screen got sooo hot honestly I could barely touch it, I was afraid it was going to fry my SD card! After the switch not once has it done it again. Hope this can help you out in some way! Good luck

Also food for tough.. I had this problem with my phone because of a service was hanging on 95% CPU.. I force closed it, but it automatically started again, so I had to wipe and re-install the ROM.
The buttons tend to get hot, I've noticed this. Has nothing to do with battery temp.
Check the battery temperature, it will not be more than 40 deg Cel.

Turn the brightness down, turn of auto sync and as suggested before turn of the buttons. Brightness has also caused my overheats so I keep it down whenever I can.
From my experience of 3 batteries, stock anker and a saner the battery has had no effect on the overheating, could it just be a placebo effect?

HOX overheating issue

the back of my phone near the camera gets EXTREMELY hot after a couple minutes of use. is anyone else having this issue.
are there any non root apps that can measure internal temperature?
I'm not sure if system panel shows heat but I'd think it would.

only when i watch a video.
guessing the processor chip is there!
Normal. If it actually overheats it will automatically shut off. Though I do agree it gets ungodly hot

Same here ==; i notice this with processor intensive tasks. Like hot. Really hot. even though my case but no problems.... yet....
Such as "Wheres my water" I think that game gets my phone really hot because of the physics involved with the water etc
HTc one x overheating
Ive had same overheating issue with Galaxy s2 on ICS 4.03 and with the same games played on HTC ONE X, i've got same overheating near camera n top screen.
I dont think this issue is phone specific
I guess some games and apps are are not optimized for ICS 4.03, coz same games didn't overheat my galaxy s2 on GB 2.3.6.
Its very annoying but hope there is a fix soon.
Had some slight overheating as well. What really got me was that the top was pretty hot when i touched it, but when i touched the bottom it was nice and cool lol

I find that it's mainly the cpu which gets very hot especially when streaming video such as CatchupTV - about 55 degrees C after half an hour or so.
