Q - Heat during charging - HTC Sensation

got my brand new shiny sensation this morning - put it on charge and it got extreemly hot ,.... ive ended up sending it back to amazon and gone down to my local 3 store and purchased one from there ....... (Not had much luck this week as i have had 2 x galaxy s2 which were horrendous poor speaker and screen rubbish so i ended up sacking that idea off and went for the sensation and the one arrived and this appeared faulty) question is was i just unlucky or is there a heat problem ... it was that bad i couldnt get the sim out and the phone switched off ... ive not put my new one on charge yet as i want to be in when i do just in case
any idea;s ...
great phone btw ... not as quick but at least i can put stuff on memory card direct without it corrupting and i dont need software to update the firmware like you do on samsung ....

Mine doesn't get hot, maybe slightly warm would be the term.

My phone got so hot on the 3rd or 4th charge that I burnt my hand on it, it was charging overnight but battery was still empty in the morning so I returned it and the new one seems ok so far

ive never really had a heat problem , it gets warm if ive been using it heavily and then put in pocket ,but most of time it goes away in a few minutes

depends on the day. If its a hot day out, charging gets to like 104 degrees, on a cool day, it will stay in the upper 90S. Like 97 degrees.
Mines been a lil warm lately, so I hard reset it and it seems much better. Must have been a app it didnt like.

my was mega hot ... i couldnt even take out my sim ... i got one from 3 and have it on charge its cold ... which is good
it was a little hot when i had the screen on , obviously there was a fault with the one from amazon
cheers all

My case got pretty hot the first day that I had it, but I was using it heavily and charging it at the same time. Since then it only seems to warm up when i'm playing games. It's almost as if some of the components needed to "burn in" or something like that. It makes sense in my twisted head but it doesn't.

My new phoneI I got yesterday don't get hot at all. I was gaming and and charging yesterday the highest it went was 37.7c .. my previous sensation while never overheated. Stayed between 38' and 45'.

Mine gets pretty hot when I'm playing games or while watchin a movie connected to that tv bt it cools down right after tho, idk, I'm sticking wit it tho as there r no other problems with it being reported in the forum

Same thing happen to mine, I left it on the charger then went to sleep, I woke and checked my phone it was burning hot. But for the sake of the phone i took everything out even if it was really hot

Any of you claiming it doesn't *FEEL* hot, put it on the charger and browse the web for a few minutes then go to phone and put in *#*#4636#*#* and click battery... mine hit 43C... Idle its still 28C which is about 7 higher than my G2x and my G2x while playing Pinball HD on the charger only hits 36C... HUGE difference and a LiIon battery hitting that high - it can explode at 55-60. Pretty much means overclocking is out of the question.

It shuts down after a certain temperature. So it won't explode.

yep my faulty amazon one shut down ... ive been playing for around an hour on my new 3 one and screen is slightly hot ... temp is 36.4 degree's which i dont think is too bad .....

Burnt my hand

It gets pretty hot during heavy use while on charge

I'm tinkering now plus charging and my new handset is cool .... The old one burnt me to must be faulty battery

Mines gets dumb hot kind of annoying and it does it will doing anything from idling, angry birds, gun Bros, takih pictures l, just sitiing at main screen. Idk how to check the actual battery temp

I had this issue. But I found the cause.
I used a duel usb charger and it made my sensation and wildfire warm around 40 degrees celcius. So I switched the usb adapter supplied by HTC and doesn't go above 34 degrees c

just got my new sensation and discovered that charging/overheating problem.
for me the problem seems to be the charger itself. phone doesn't charges from it and gets crazy hot INSTANTLY. and when i'm unplugging charger inpanic, phone gets restarted.
Nevertheless, it changes fine from USB or my old Desire charger using the same cable from sensation package.
so, original charger seems to be broken.
(don't actually want to try in on my old, but still much more alive Desire)

Major battery problem.

Yesterday I let my battery drain all the way and then put it on charge before bed as usual. I normally keep my phone under my pillow everynight so my son doesnt get his grubby hands on it. This morning I woke up and the phone was red hot...the widget on my phone said the temp was 57 degrees...this can't be normal can it? Also the phone hasn't charged to 100%, after I took it off charge it was 83%.

''under my pillow'' is the problem, take it out will solve it smoothly.
You've probably cooked it by keeping it under your pillow. Dual core is going to generate some heat, and insulating that heat is a very bad idea.
Agreed . One night a while back I accidently fell asleep with my old iPhone 3gs under my pillow and the thing was on fire in the am so bad the back cover started to melt..your problem is the under the pillow and nothing more ..
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I would advise to seek out another place to put your phone at night where:
1. Your son can't get it's grubby hands on it.
2. You don't insulate the heat by putting something like a pillow on it.
under the pillow.. as everyone said.
I guess Dual Core is heating, and when you cover it and don't let some chilly wind to come in, its like turning the cooling fans off.. it doesn't surprise me that it overheats.
Plus, isn't it "not advised" to sleep with a cell phone close to your head?
Never heard of not having a phone by your head...have done for years with many phones and never had this problem...its mainly because I use it as an alarm. I'll try it on the floor next to the bed tonight on a full charge and see what happens.cheers

I just have mine on my desk (depending on how you look at it) above/in front my head. Plug the charger in, put my phone next to PS3, use a homemade dock, and put nightdisplay on, from Gentle Alarm. Then I go to sleep
Yesterday after I over heated the phone it didn't seem to want to charge over 80% so I let it drain completely.last night charged the phone and unplugged it this morning and now it seems supercharged! Normal use since 8:00 this morning (uk time) and still on 95%!

Powerskins

Has anyone tried out the powerskin for the sensation?
http://www.shop.power-skin.com/powerskin/htc/sensation
i have one. its nice but it gets really hot while using your phone. the heat doesn't disperse through the powerskin well. which seems to drain both batteries a bit. for instance the powerskin is almost empty if i use the phone after 30 min. even though it is much larger than my battery. somethings wrong. but having extra powers is nice and it doesnt touch the screen or mess up the screen protector.
Mod please move to proper section.

There is something wrong with yours. Mine last almost ten hours. I started a thread about it here a couple weeks ago.

Is there any good case ? i get lost here
How's the size, thickness?
It's about 3/4 of an inch. If you have small pockets the size and silicon case might present problems pulling the phone out, but I have loose clothing so its not a problem. You do have the option to take the case off and use it only to recharge a dead/dying OEM batt.

Literally got mine yesterday morning from the USA.
It's about as big as I expected, and thats pretty big. I already have an Anker battery, but in all fairness I haven't seen much of a difference in battery life with it over the stock HTC battery; that could be because 1) I didn't really test out the stock HTC battery. 2) I never calibrated it properly.
Anyhow, I am addicted to my phone, so I use it a lot and my emails are set to PUSH from the server. I have wifi on a lot e.t.c.. So when I use it a lot I expect it to last somewhere in the region of 5-7 hours.
Now back to the point, with this POwerskin, I no longer fear using my phone out and about, especially when I need to get in contact with the girlfriend! It lasts far longer, so I am pleased with it. I haven't really tested it fully yet, because I do not know whether to have my Powerskin charging my phone in the background, so it sort of trickle charges the normal battery. OR, turn it on when my phone gets really low :/
Good nonetheless!

One S Overheating problem?

I woke up in the middle of the night (4am.) because my phone pretty much burned me and scared the hell out of me while it was charging. The phone was there with a black screen and heated a little over 120 degrees f (measured by a meat thermometer ).
When I pressed the lock button to unlock it, it turned on (I left it charging on) and had less than 50% of battery left. As i pressed the lock button again, the phone rebooted two more times until it let me turn it off.
Anyone know what's wrong and should I contact htc or costco from which I bought it from?
Do you use the charger / usb cable given by HTC ?
Because one time, I tried to charge my phone with another usb cable and my phone was also hot ! (But I don't think like you wow !)

Oh, I'm not the only one then, nice
Mine has gotten hot as well, but that is usually while I use it, not when it's just laying in my bed
My wife always gives me a hard time for sleeping with my phone, lol, it's on our lamp table next to our bed, but since I don't like leaving the phone on a hard surface, it's usually next to me on our bed, LOL.
Mines was overheating a bit when charging with an extended second party charger, but once I started using the HTC charger that came with the phone, it was fine. Also seemed to charge faster with the stock charger, maybe it's a figment of my imagination, who knows.
My phone heated up crazy mad when I watched a movie through the mhl adapter and since the phone is some kind of metal, therefore a perfect conductor, the whole phone was painfully hot to touch. Scared me ****less I've had a lot of android phones and this is the first time . I didn't want to chance it and exchanged it in store still within my 15 day exchange period whew. Anybody know what woulda caused it to overheat like an oven?

mines heats up too. is this every or just some units?
it heats up when playing games or surfing the web.
Mine heats up as well it's all phones.
I had this problem with my Amaze/etc.
Replacement will be the same so don't bother.
Proven to be wrong
The amperage of the adapter doesn't matter, as the phone will only draw as much current as it needs, and no more.
I use the charger for my HP Touchpad with all kinds of phones, and it's rated for 5V 2.0amps.
Mine stays at 105 degrees when I'm doing any gpc or 4g stuff on it when its not charging or anything is that normal ?

I think of it this way... I have a dual core 1.5ghz processor running inside a super thin aluminum case. I expect it to get hot, and even hotter when charging or under load. As long as I'm in warranty and the phone still works fine, I'm not going to worry about it.
Now, if it's causing SOD problems, that's different.
Just some units have a faulty battery or loose cable ever since I exchanged my faulty heating up one no heating at all

I'd be careful where you leave your phone charging. The daughter of family friends left her phone unattended charging on the bed and unfortunately set the bed on fire. This went on to pretty much destroy the house. NOT an urban myth either. Laptops and anything that charges need a little caution.
For those sleeping with their phones - stop it! The phone is big enough to sleep on its own
My overheating is gone I believe. It was there the first 24 hours. I guess because it was the first time it was being used.
After I fully charged it off, it doesnt get as hot anymore.
same here--
That was a one time thing hasn't happen agian.

HOX overheating issue

the back of my phone near the camera gets EXTREMELY hot after a couple minutes of use. is anyone else having this issue.
are there any non root apps that can measure internal temperature?
I'm not sure if system panel shows heat but I'd think it would.

Hail Cobra!
only when i watch a video.
guessing the processor chip is there!
Normal. If it actually overheats it will automatically shut off. Though I do agree it gets ungodly hot
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Have you considered taking it back? That's not normal.
Same here ==; i notice this with processor intensive tasks. Like hot. Really hot. even though my case but no problems.... yet....
Such as "Wheres my water" I think that game gets my phone really hot because of the physics involved with the water etc
HTc one x overheating
Ive had same overheating issue with Galaxy s2 on ICS 4.03 and with the same games played on HTC ONE X, i've got same overheating near camera n top screen.
I dont think this issue is phone specific
I guess some games and apps are are not optimized for ICS 4.03, coz same games didn't overheat my galaxy s2 on GB 2.3.6.
Its very annoying but hope there is a fix soon.
Had some slight overheating as well. What really got me was that the top was pretty hot when i touched it, but when i touched the bottom it was nice and cool lol

IT will shut off at 60c. Ive never seen mine go over 42c even after an hour of gaming. Install "systempanel" from the market and it will tell you everything about your battery and much more.

My white HOX ranges from 31c to 42c, usually median at 35c but hits 42c quite frequent during multi-tasking usage(facebook, instagram, whatsapp concurrently)
I noticed HOX have some overheating issues, from the day I purchase my phone.

I use TempMonitor from the market.
I find that it's mainly the cpu which gets very hot especially when streaming video such as CatchupTV - about 55 degrees C after half an hour or so.
I have the exact same issue with both of my One XLs

My phone got to 46 c yesterday. I thought it was going to explode in my hands hah. Luckily I was near a freezer so I just tossed it in there for a little. I don't know why my phone heats up so much. I didn't notice it so much with a case but now I use it naked and its just unbelievable how hot this thing can get. My other phones have gotten hot, but I can boil water with this thing.

Woke up to my phone super hot!

So I plugged in my phone last night like normal and when I woke up my phone was nuclear hot. This used to happen to my Sensation when I'd fall asleep playing a game or something and the screen was on all night but this wasn't the case with my One S. Also when I took it off the charger it had only charged to 62%. Anyone have any idea what would cause this to happen, and has this happened to anyone else?
Sent from the future using the Tardis
Check battery stats for weird stuff, also did you use original charger? My one s never gets warm while using it unless its on full brightness. Granted I never play games on it though. Id get it exchanged unless I found a good reason it overheated, especially after googling for lithium ion battery fire videos
