After only a single attempt at a warranty replacement I finally got word from TMO today that they will no longer swap handset's for screen bleeding issues. The rep told me that it is now considered a known issue and will not swap anymore phones because they know that the new one will have the same issues as well. I asked if she knew anymore information about it and she said the only thing that they know is that LG is working on a permanent fix.
I asked if that meant a new handset for those with the screen issue and of course she did not know but also stated that the fix/replace/repair is definitely a hardware problem and LG is expected to make right on it. So for now Ill deal with random reboots, shutdowns, and crappy battery until the update. I'm just curious on how they are going to remedy the situation. Hopefully a release comes out soon at least identifying the issue.
So if you can still trade in then by all means go for it. I have had two reps tell me now that as of the 24th, they no longer exchange due to screen bleed. I didnt push the issue on a new phone cause I like this phone and want to see how it all turns out now that LG has the ball.
I originally posted an article on the issue here at Gear Diary

I'd be willing to bet T-Mobile and LG lost money on this phone...I know they lost money by letting me keep mine...HAHA

I bet, this has been a huge farce for both companies, maybe both will come out of this having learnt something though..............yeah right!!!! lol
On another note I did speak with a CSR today her name was Nicole. She told me she could exchange for another if I wanted or she could offer me a nice discount on another phone. I rejected both, I was just trying to fish for information. So maybe the whole we are not replacing news hasn't filtered down to everyone yet, or you just got a rep that is tired of exchanging out G2X's

Ha... I've swapped out over 5 Mytouch 4Gs and the best way to go about it is through the chat on their website.
It all depends on the Rep. I read on the MT4G forum they quit swapping out phones for the screen issue with that phone... It's a wash. Depends on who you talk to and how their day is going apparently.
If at first you don't succeed... Call another rep... LOL
unless they notate the account and we get a sweet big red pop up saying DONT DO IT when you walk into a brick and mortar.

It's really an easy fix.....they just need to limit the backlight output to about 45% of the current max.
The screen bleed will almost never be visible, at that new max brightness. Of course when outside, and you want to kick up the brightness to max....it just won't perform the same.
The Optimus Black is supposed to be the new NOVA screens....I have not bothered to check to see what the bleed complaints are over there. Switching out the G2x to the NOVA screen as an undocumented upgrade would not be out of the question.

I've heard the Nova displays are supposed to perform good in direct sunlight but Vlad from Engadget said it falls well short of performing well in direct sunlight.

This is totally YMMV with the reps. She had to take some time and look it up in the "knowledge base" and said that she learned something new. It may have just been me but the rude chat representative and now the rep from the phonecall said the same thing. I guess it all depends on how much you push. I was most happy just to know that now it is seen as a legitimate issue by both TMO and LG and am waiting for the resolve.
I just got one swapped out yesterday. They gave me free overnight shipping too. This is like the 5th time, if its not free I guess I'm confident ill get to keep it. You see I learned during my call yesterday that they now charge five bucks for using warranty, that's a change in contract, 30 days to reject the new changes. Even still, I'm on my 5th G2X, completelly unacceptable!

See this is an example of why t-mobile sucks. They've sold phones that THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE...and won't replace them. I understand it'd be stupid to replace them with another G2X - but they should a) give us our money back or b) exchange it for another phone like the sensation or mytouch4G. The fact that they don't is probably grounds for a lawsuit. If anyone is interested I'm thinking of filing one.
Luckily for me, I only had to swap mine once to get a phone without backlight bleed. Even on max, it's hardly noticeable. My first one was horrible, even below 50%. Now, the wait for an update begins.
im getting a replacement but there charging me 20 bucks to do so! i got the shiz end of the deal
Or they could directly seal the screen to the glass like. In the iphone and galaxy s lineup

Not necessarily. If you bring up prices in asking for a replacement (i.e. I paid $180 for my G2x and Sensation is now cheaper) they'll frequently feel pressured into sending you one. My brother swapped his out for a Sensation, claimed the Sensy had overheating problems, and got a replacement MT4G Slide.
When I popped that response into the google narcissism translator, this is what it spit out: i wanted to post something that offers zero value to this thread, xda, or anyone else in this world. As a matter of fact, I wanted to post something that has zero value for a single thing on this entire earth, outside of puffing up my ego. I'm so thankful I have avenues such as the internet to sharpen and feed my narcissism. I'm so full now.. I'm so happy. I feel great. Wow, it's like a drug. I hope someone argues with my stance so I can keep getting fed....
I totally destroyed the SIM socket on my Infuse. Probably tore out a couple of the pins (don't ask!). Any suggestions on who might do repairs or am I better off just selling it on eBay for $175? Everything works perfectly except anything phone call/SMS related. It's like an Apple iTouch now. WiFI, BT, GPS but no phone.
I bought it "semi-new" off eBay 2 weeks ago but of course it has no warranty. I did get a great deal on it ..... so much for that deal.
I know if I even try calling Samsung to inquire about repairs I will forever get lost in the morass of stupid CSR's. I did get a great price on it trying to avoid a contract extension. I can get a new one for $200 w/2yrs but really don't want to do that. I'd rather spend a few bucks to fix it.

I actually ended up calling Samsung. Wasn't too bad of an experience. They told me repair would be $70.36 including shipping BOTH WAYS (they sent a UPS shipping label). Sounds kinda cheap actually but I figured I'd give it a shot. They said 5-10 business days.
They did say that "if the repair cost more than their quote" (uh-oh) they would contact me first. I did tell them exactly what was wrong.
i just got to ask... sorry. but HOW IN THE WORLD did you manage to do that??

I Don't understand why you don't simply extend your contract for the $200 or perhaps even less. Then you can sell the phone on ebay for $175.00 so your total out of pocket cost would be only $50 bucks or so counting the ebay selling fees and so on.. Not only would you end up with a brand new phone but you could have it in your hand in 2-3 days perhaps even less.
Why would you rather spend $100-$200 for a repair job? (I doubt you can even find a place which would touch the phone with a problem like you have described)...
Just does not make a whole lotta sence!
OR!!! donate it here for development, or offer to be a tester. Parts maybe? I guess I'm saying there's other things to be done with it if you outright buy a new one.

Repair job from Samsung was quoted as $70.26 including shipping both ways. It's on the way back as I type. Not sure I could have gotten $175 for the bad one considering you can get a new one for $199.
I don't want to be tied down to AT&T for 2 more years for numerous reasons. I am out of contract now. I have my top-o-the-line Moto Krazr I can use for the 5-10 days it will hopefully take to get it back.
Somehow my g2x was in my front pocket and the screen cracked. Screens still perfecrly vosoble just has a. Long crack across the top. Ruins just about all videos and pictures and i Never dropped it or anything ever. What's. Good excuse or complaint that I can tell T-Mobile so that they might send me a new one? Also this one has chip stability issues and some screen bleed

You should have insurance on it, just say it was stolen.
When you keep a phone in the front pocket it can flex too much and crack the screen, especially when you sit down. Not a defect. TMO probably won't replace it.

The screen is about 50-60 on ebay plus you have to pay someone or do it yourself, so for another 60 you get a brand new phone..
If you send the phone to LG service they will replace the faceplate with the digitizer glass for about $70.00.
just tell tmobile ''hey my phones internet is never working anymore, and when i try and turn it on my phone crashes and re-boots, and it wont keep a charge even though i bought 2 extra batterys'' and they will send u a new one,,,,thats what i did when i dodnt know how to unroot the phone at first

I would normally agree, but in this case **** tmo, and lg, and nvidia, with all the issues every one had with this phone, (and don't say you don't cause i bet at least you have screen bleed) putting out ****ty, half-baked gb, nvidia holding back a2dp source. If it wasn't for the fine devs here phone would be handicapped.
I say make up the ****tiest most awful excuse, get a free phone and the 70 bucks you were gonna pay lg donate it to a dev(s).
Sure, I have screen bleed. The only time I notice it is when I crank up the screen brightness and launch a specific app. For all intents and purposes, this particular issue is a non-issue.
As for **** Nvidia, disagree here as well. Why should a company release their proprietary source? How come no one is *****ing at Google for not releasing the Gmail app source?
As for donating to the deb's - already did, to CM. Not sure about giving money to others who simply change a few lines of code in a mostly complete project.

I haven't complained about the issues I've had with my g2x once for imsix months now and they've managed to screw me over in two incidents recently trying to charge me several hundred dollars for no reason so this is such a small task o think they can oblige with
I swear I have never dropped the phone. Not once. It ducking cracked in my front pocket while I was STANDING. Thats not normal. Even if tmo would replace ur phone / for any reason / they gonna charge u $99 or so for that broken screen or any other damages
Ya even if it is defective cracked screens aren't covered under warranty. And even if they send you a new one if you use another reason, as soon as they see the crack your gonna be charged for it. Trust me I learned the hard way.

Same crap happened to me. But I guess I got a little lucky cuz only half of the pin broke off, the other half I just bent up so it would touch the sim when it was put in. Worked for me. Idk if yours came off completely or partially like mine did

The person on the phone said as long as it's not physical damage they can fix it for free... which is ridiculous if you ask me because most people on this forum could fix any non-physical damage on the Nexus.
They told me to go to Rogers for some reason to get it repaired even though I said I got the phone as a gift and it was not from Rogers. I guess I'll try calling them again to see if I can get anyone more helpful.

Well after a long time of playing with it I manage to get the phone to read my sim by putting strips of tin foil on the contacts on the sim card. Disappoints me that I have to do this though and now the phone has no resale value.
I just got mine spoiled after returning from a holiday I've tried putting the copper thing back in place and slotting it back but it doesn't work. Now i have to wait till tomorrow to call Samsung support in hope that they will fix it if i pay money because my device has no warranty because it is from Australia and i'm using it in Singapore. Will they accept it to fix it if i pay for the repair?
And can anyone who used aluminium foil or anything to make it work post photos or videos on how to do it? I have no experience in soldering and stuff (15 years old) and i dont know how much foil to put there. Please help me!

Your post is kind of contradictory. You say they wont fix it for free. That suggests that YES they will fix it, but not for free. Which makes total sense, since you physically broke the phone yourself. That's not covered under warranty.
But then you go on to say they told you to talk to Rogers. Your post is very confusing.
Rogers is a carrier. If you have some sort of damage plan or replacement coverage they may help you. Otherwise, at best, they're just going to send it Samsung in the first place. More likely, they won't touch it.
Your options are to try to repair it yourself, try a local shop, or try Samsung again. I seriously doubt that they wouldn't repair it, for $$$.
Or get a 3rd party warranty. Although, that would be pretty unethical and possibly illegal, filing a claim for damage that occurred before you signed up for the plan.

Hello, all.
I've recently broken my g2x beyond repair--physically that is. I've been using my girlfriend's g2x and before I contact t-mobile for a replacement (I have premium handset protection plan) I wondered if anyone had recently tried to replace their phone using the same method?
Two questions follow:
Was your phone replaced with another g2x, or a phone similar to it?
Was there an option to pay the difference for a phone upgrade?
If you go through Assurion, you need to call them and ask for a different model. We filed a claim online and got another G2x.
If you're going through T-Mobile, you have to get three replacements in six months before they'll offer a different model

Is that through the insurance or through the warranty replacement from t mobile?

Through assurion insurance had to pay the 130$ premium but well worth it to get away from the g2x.

Had anybody done the warranty replacement recently....the last time I did it they offered me the sidekick..total piece of crap. Just wondering if the options are different now.

Actually it wasn't...the thread has been talking about the insurance replacement not about the T-Mobile warranty exchange program...they are two completely different things.

I called asurion and filed a claim today.
They said they could only send out a different phone if the same model phone is not available; I didn't want to push the issue since I'd be getting a new phone anyway.
the deductible was $130
Didn't want to create a new thread so I'll post here. My G2X recently started sensing the headphones even when non are plugged in which doesn't allow me to call without using the speaker. I went to a T-Mobile store and the representative there, after checking if my phone has been rooted off-course, said that for $5 I will get a replacement in 2 days which is a "much better" phone. What I got in the mail is a G2, which is a) 6 months older b) has a smaller screen c) has a single core processor d) has a slower wireless modem - I can go on and on, but the point is it's not an equivalent phone. This was the first problem I had with my G2X in 1 year and 9 months of owning it, so by all means replace it with another one or something that is better. I am going back to t-mob today, but I am not holding my breath. I'll keep people posted on the results of my expedition. Any insight into this matter is greatly appreciated.
Keep is posted, interested in seeing what they do for you....of anything at all

maybe treat it as an honest mistake on their part at first. I'd be surprised if they stuck with the verdict that you deserve a G2. You didn't tell us what replacement plan you had or what warranty you were using to get it fixed. Also, usually the headphone issue can be fixed with compressed air or a straw brush or q-tip dipped in alcohol to clean off the contacts, which can register a headset when nothing is in there.
tell them you want your G2X back if nothing else. It's probably worth more with the headset issue than the G2 new.

Didn't get a chance to stop by yesterday, so we'll see what they say today. I am an electrical engineer so I can easily fix this issue, I just think if I pay $7.99(premium handset protection) I should be able to use it - especially since my wife and I have paid it for 2 phones for almost 2 years. I came straight to the store and the T- Mobile representative filed the claim for me - so since it was only $5 shipping I assume the replacement is direct from T-Mobile.
Well, as expected, the T-Mobile rap agreed that the G2 is inferior, called customer service to see what they can do and and they said - "too bad-so sad." After that, he said that the only thing he can recommend is calling customer loyalty(I'll try it but I am not holding my breath). So the bottom line is, T-Mobile stole $400 of my money over 2 years for 2 phones since the protection plan did absolutely nothing for me even when my device broke. I am sending the G2 back and that's that. TMobile offers the cheapest service, especially if I have 3 lines with unlimited data and a 10% discount I can get through work, so I really doubt I'll switch to something else.

Well, finally after 2 visits to the T-mobile store and contacting customer loyalty department twice - the first time I was promised I will get a replacement G2X - and the order was never filed - I got a nice shiny refurbished LG L9. It's not the greatest phone, but it sure as heck beats the G2 and is definitely better then the G2X. Not sure why this was so hard to do in the first place?
Glad you got a new rig man!!
