Im confused - HTC Inspire 4G

I own an inpsire 4G that is stock on att. Today I just passed through the store and one of thr salesman asked me if I know about the upcoming lte network. He assured me that it would work fine on my inspire. I am sure lte requires different bands so is he wrong or I am wrong ?? Excuse the noob question and thank you in advance
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium

The representative did not know what he was talking about. We do not have an LTE modem physically present in our Inspires.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium

Ohh ok thanks I thought this too but just wanted to confirm.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium

he wanted to make the sale get his commission that's why its best to know before you shop cause any store especially cell phone carriers will lie to your face and hopee your too lazy to return the phone

I think there is a lot of misinformation out there about "4G" and HSPA+ and LTE.

Gotta love that FauxG. I wonder how service reps are going to explain it to all the lay people who bought Inspires thinking they were on a 4G network, and are wondering why they aren't on the new 4G network.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium

I understand. I bought my inspire 4 months ago understanding that it won't have lte. I clearly understand the difdernce but for someone who is not as tech savy and end up buying the inspire expecting lte speeds could be very disappointed.

Hey, its AT&T, of course they'll lie to make a quick buck

Could we sue for false advertisement?

Can't sue because they marketed it as a 4G phone anr not an LTE phone. Hspa+ was ruled to technically be 4G. I knew this was gonna mess people up, as I am sure ATT did. But, I am sure their legal army ok'd the marketing.
Hell do you realize how many people thought/think the iPhone 4 is 4G. Lots
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

If the Inspire DID work on the LTE network, if there was backwards compatibility, it just wouldn't do it at LTE speeds.
It's like the salesman saying your 65 horsepower 1978 AMC Pacer can drive on the Autobahn. Sure, you can drive on it, just not at Autobahn speeds. :O

Wait, you guys don't have LTE on your inspires? Mine does!
jk lol

yeah lets not tar all seles reps with the same brush ..i work for an at&t dealer and i try to inform my customers of what there buying and all the pro's and cons ...the fact that i like to "tinker " with my phones only emphasizes the fact ...sure there are asses out there but some of us still believe in taking care of the customer

I have found that alot of ATT reps know less about their product than I do... I had one guy try tellin me that the inspire had a front facing camera. See right there? I said, no that's the light sensor. Idiot. Had another swear up and down that lte will indeed work with the inspire. There's more but can't think of it now.
I wish there were more knowledgeable reps like you ^

Based on all the info online I assume they are wrong....

It doesn't have an lte radio, nor the software. A lot (not all) att reps have no idea what they are talking about.

Yeah I knew the answer before I asked...just wanted to see what kind of response I would get....I even tried to push the issue...asking if they were positive and so on. In one case I got the manager involved, and I believe his exact words were "sir I can assure you, this phone is compatible with all of AT&T's future 4g networks"
I wonder if they actually believe that, or if corporate simply tell them to lie there a$$'s off......!

Well, I forgot everyone here knows more than the people who actually develop the phone as a career. Wait and see; I'd highly doubt it, but BBY Mobile's BEAST software lists it as "LTE Compatible". (I work at Best Buy in Home Theater)

Two things ...
1) ATT is lying - well sort of. They can get away with it because their definition of 4G is very broad. When they say LTE they actually mean HSDPA.
2) The folks in the store are indoctrinated by the company so they believe the Inspire is LTE as well.
I'd love to be proven wrong but unfortunately the Inspire is H+ only (HSDPA).

It doesn't take a genius to figure out:
1: LTE tech is still brand new, and very few select phones have the hardware to support it. (All verizon phones)
2: The Inspire 4G is a Desire HD without an FFC. The Desire HD does not have support for LTE, therefor, we can assume this as well on the inspire 4G
When AT&T talk about 4G, they make sure they include an asterisk* and the details will follow in the tiny text. We get 4G like speeds assuming they complete the backhaul, but no LTE. We'd need hardware for that.

Pretty sure its impossible. Our snapdragon chips don't have the capability to support true lte. I'm pretty sure the thunderbolts SoC is a little bit different(lte support)

Actually, this is the official ATT page for the Inspire 4g.
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...re+(TM)+4G*&q_sku=sku5100284#fbid=ZSGfIgw7m3E
If you scroll near the very bottom, Technical Specifications section, lower left corner it says, "4G* - HSPA+/LTE: HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul." No where does it say it is LTE compatible. Also, that little asterisk leads you to this, like someone mentioned earlier, "*4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. Available in limited areas. Availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment. Requires 4G device and compatible data plan. Learn more at att.com/network."
Would be nice if that's possible, but it's not with this phone. But I'll have to wait 2 more years anyways to be able to upgrade again, haha.

I make a habit of changing my phone every 2 years as a rule. By then maybe AT&T may have their LTE in par with Verizon. It really doesn't matter with my paltry 200mb account anyway, whether I use it with 1 to 2 megabit at a time or 9 to10 megabit at a time.

is 4G worth it?

Hey,
I'm contemplating getting a Sensation in Canada, but I may wait for Rogers to get their new LTE network going before getting a new phone. Would you guys say that the 4G is worth waiting for? Or should I just get the Sensation now?

Wait...and use the money that's obviously burning a hole in your pocket for more prudent things...such as contributing to your 401k...
Nah, but 4g is ok...I see it as a luxury, if you can afford it and you REALLY want it then sure. But whether or not it's worth is is as simple as thinking about how much you really value a few extra seconds between page loads. With bandwith caps, 4g isn't really all that attractive anymore honestly...

Something else to think about, just because they launch LTE won't guarantee that they will have the backhaul to make it fast. Most, if not all, of Sprints WiMAX, Verizon's LTE is slower than 3G simply because they don't have the backhaul or capacity yet.
It took T-Mobile 2 more years after launching UMTS to get HSPA+ going. Food for thought.
hmm.....well put...thanks guys. will have a new Sensation tomorrow
With these prices... its not worth it.

What are you talking about? Did ANYONE in this thread say ANYTHING about T-Mobile and 4G?
Read the post before making idiot responses.
sensation is a solid phone, reminds me of my nexus one that I wish I never traded. Would probably still be using that, instead of the phone path I went through. Pricing of 4g isnt worth it, you can just get internet services at a home. My local carrier is rolling out "4g" and I'm priced for life at $14.99 unlimited text & data. I don't plan on leaving the carrier anytime soon, and my download speeds on average are 3-4mbps, high has been up to 8mbps.
Unless your in a big popular city where they will try to put out the LTE signal and support it I wouldnt worry about it. Everyone I know here (Dallas) on Sprint's 4g and Verizons has sporadic problems with signal and speeds. Its fast when its there but they dont get it much.
T-Mo US's may not be real 4G but they have good coverage (for me) with it and I love the phone so I personally wouldnt wait unless you get some good info on the quality of 4G in your area.

I see just the *slightest* overreaction here.
However, to answer the OP's question: Yes, 4G it's worth it to me. Accessing information no longer takes a brutally long time. I have fewer reasons to take a laptop most of to time. I can have long conversations with my girl or family while browsing these forums or the web in general.
I see download speeds anywhere from 3mbps to 11mbps depending on where I am at the time. This is more that fast enough for me to forget that I am not on Wifi. This is what I have always wanted using a smartphone to be like.

HSPA+ is not 4g and neither is the current iteration of verizons LTE.
LTE is still faster than HSPA+ but it drains your battery. I have been getting amazing HSPA+speeds but its in very limited locations (downtown seattle only). 4G is worth it, be it real or fake its much faster than 3g but i kind of like HSPA+ cuz at least its not such a battery hog like LTE.

If your not talking about LTE, then why are you posting in this thread? Yes, T-mobile's network is HSPA+. No one is arguing that. What we do want to know, though, is why you mentioned it? The OP, who lives in Canada, was asking if it was worth getting the Sensation now (which won't be on a 4G network as it's not launched) or waiting for when they launch LTE (in Canada) and buy it on a 4G LTE network.
What does that have to do with T-Mobile NOT being a TRUE 4G network?
Maybe I read it wrong so,,,

Nope, he was talking about LTE 4G in Canada, NOT T-mobile 4G. Still do NOT understand the point of your comment.
EDIT: On a side note of true 4G. NO carrier in the WORLD can claim 4G as 4G is only classed as WiMAX II or LTE Advanced with speeds of 100Mbps. With that said, T-Mobile is not either of those technologies, but they are half way to the speeds which is about 4 times faster than anyone else in the world.

Not relevant to the OP but the ITU actually stated the term 4g may be applied to "LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed."
i DONT reccommend getting rogers 4G, purely for the excessive cost, shakey availability, and the fact that when they do actually launch, its going to be rife with problems...using 3g on my sensation is mroe than fast enough, and really, if you want fast data, just use home internet and access it with logmein from your fone...
i used to be with rogers, but the cost/bandwidth of data just didnt cut it for me...

I miss my g2x and t mobile

My job decided to get me a company phone and start paying the bill, but only problem is, they use sprint. So, I had them get me the new evo 3d. I've always been a fan of t mobile and their network, but hey, I'm saving 100a month. Well, got my new phone setup, and must say, sprint is a lot slower than t mobile is, and the phone is kind of a let down. The 3d is cool, but I can't stand sense at all. I can't wait for the Hercules. Its pretty much a Infuse with a dual core CPU. Nobody knows for sure which dual core it will be but I've seen speculation that it will be a Qualcomm. Then again, everyone speculated everyone's SGSII to look the same since we saw cases on a website but we all know that speculation was wrong since ATT'S is a slider. Hell, the Hercules might not eveb have a 4.5 inch screen at this point since everyone was totally wrong on saying ATT, Verizon and Sprints would be the same form factor as the European version.

I might see if I can eventually switch to att, since the big wigs at my company use them for their iphones. I'd never get an iphone, of course. Guys, you are lucky to have your download speeds. Lol yea I know how it goes, its crazy down there and my buddy who lives in Georgia is on sprint as well, he's been having same issues as me for the past few months. During off hours I could get 2mbps down some places, while still not get any data downtown Denver.... 4g is always one bar Max, unless I am at my store, and it literally drops signal like no other, no point in even wasting my battery on keeping my wimax antenna on... even if I do get 2mbps its still way slow compared to T-Mobile, ping of 300 really does make it seem even slower as well.
I went to the gym tonight and got my buddy there to download speed test on his g2, was during peak hours. He got 6mbps down while I couldn't even open Facebook lol.

I called their customer service, and told them I was getting pour speeds compared to t mobile, and she asked me, what's the benefit of faster download speeds anyway! Seriously! I hung up.

Anyone in baltimore with a htc sensation

Hey i currently have an evo 3d with sprint but am seriously considering leaving sprint. Sprint just informed everyone of a minor change in there contracts which is allowing everyone to leave with no ETF. But thats not why i wanna leave. Sprints 4g service is horrible and ive been dropping calls left and right. If you live in baltimore how is your service? Do you get good 4g coverage not just outside but inside buildings also?

Sprint is a joke and a crappy provider. I was with them 8months. Never again. I had them before that for 2 years and thought they had changed their ways but to my surprise it still remains crap!
Only good thing about them is if you call sprint threatening to leave they offer you an upgrade lol. But the 4g is a joke and im fed up. So far is the ballistic sg the toughest case available for the sensation? Has anyone played with a sidekick bc if we leave sprint i think my girl is gonna get that one

I'm Baltimore. Maryland that is, not Ohio and my service is pretty good. I'm on wifi most of the time but I've never been outside with less than 3 bars of 4G. Inside of my house is a different story as I have around two bars most of the time. If I switch to edge instead of 4G I can get full bars. I'd say it is definitely pretty good in my area.
Thanks for the heads up, I got my Mom out of her contract without an ETF, now she's on an unlimited family plan with me. I got her a Sensation today.

She was under contract and they had a change in their terms of service, I called and said I was her (with her permission), told them I don't agree with the change and want to opt out. I also said I won't pay an ETF because of their change in policy, I was put on hold and when the rep came back she said that I was correct, no ETF, offered an unlimited plan for 2 lines $129 + taxes, I said no thank you. She then said I could go to my new carrier, give them my acct. # and have them do the cancellation and keep my number.
If they try to bill her an ETF I will call and say no, you changed your terms and I opted out, done deal.

want to trade my inspire

Want to trade/sell my inspire to get a different phone... something with around the same specs and screen size. Is a iPhone 3GS better? I need a new phone cause I can't handle the edge connection. I unlokced my ispire for tmobile and that's all I get is edge, I want 3g...
Any ideas or thoughts on good trades...

Yeah go buy an iphone. Oh wait, you will only get edge with it too. If you want 3G data on T-mobile then buy a T-mobile phone. Try this link: http://www.t-mobile.com

You're joking, right?
Seriously though, if you are on T-Mobile, you should be looking for a phone that works on their bands. As far as a trade, I don't know what you could expect to get for an Inspire right now.
I know on cdma theres an app to force 3G on roam and it works pretty good. And there are tweaks for unlocked phones on other networks to force 3G. Is this not possible for GSM?

Roaming has NOTHING to do with it. T-mobile has it's own distinct 3G data bands that are different from the rest of the world. If you want 3G on T-mobile, get a T-mobile branded phone. Go to the T-mobile link I gave you and look at the phones and their reviews. And this topic has nothing to do with the Inspire let alone the development of it.
How much are you asking for your inspire?

We arent your financial advisers haha. best thing wouldl be go to tmobile and find a phone that works on their network. google gsm arena, that will get u a site that lists phone specs and you can compare them. research = key.
I have to agree. If you want 3g then get a tmobile phone. Its hat simple.
