[Q] Just got an "HTC Update for Windows Phone" while running Mango RTM - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I had my HD7 running the RTM of Mango and was having issues syncing with Zune so I did a 'reset your phone' from the 'about' settings menu.
When I was setting it back up zune installed a "HTC Update for Windows Phone". I considered yanking the cord out for fear I was being downgraded back to NoDo but I decided to let it go.
After the process completed I found I was still running Mango??
How can I tell if I am still on the RTM or if I got some other update? Can someone post OS version, Firmware, Radio etc from an HD7 running Mango RTM?

What you got was a firmware update from HTC, not an OS update from Microsoft. Even though they are both distributed via Zune, they are not related at all. Even the infamous "Walshed" phones earlier this year were able to receive firmware updates, even though they could not receive any OS updates.

do you have wifi tether now? because afaik HTC finalized their 7720 before the feature was added and they were due to update their drivers or sumth before the feature could be supported. just iirc. cant check my mozart since its up with the warranty guys.

Wifi Tether
I am sure HTC have confirmed the Wifi Tether will not be avaialable on 1st gen phones
Even if they are on Mango
There is a link on XDA somehwre

Not true, first gen devices just need another update after 7720.

Sweet - I will look forward to it then

I still feel like it was more than firmware but since I don't know how to tell...
Either way, things seem different. The selection of ringtones is different, the Engadget app works again and my music is not freezing between tracks while the screen is locked anymore.

Sounds good, I take it your phone wasn't unlocked when you reset ?
When I reset I lost unlock

[Q] New Update Available 7/26/2011

Today i woke up and noticed my HD7 was telling me that there is an update available. Anyone have any idea what update this is? I'm currently on OS Version: 7.0.7392. Zune tells me "Available Update: HTC Update for Windows Phone".
My HDy just gave me the notification. Ran to XDA to see if there was any information on this update. I am also running OS 7.0.7392.0
It's an HTC update, not sure what it addresses exactly. Took about twenty minutes start to finish and the only thing I've noticed so far is that message notifications aren't consistently showing up on the top of the screen. Sometimes, but not always.
Based on the news article on this update from pocketnow.com, it looks like the new update will:
- upgrade your firmware, radio, and bootloader versions.
- HTC Hidden WiFi app now works properly.
- camera fix (pinkish hue is now gone)
- GPS works better
Probably worth upgrading to. Too bad i'm on Mango.
I will hold of on this update for a while since my phone is Chevron unlocked so that i can use Navigon 3 that was opened up to us NA members by a great member here Kounadisk. If anyone uses this update and was Chevron unlocked can, you please post your results on if you are still unlocked or not? TIA...
Is this update US only? I have dev unlocked / unbranded HD7, and Zune shows nothing

Use "V1.6 Working App to Backup Windows Phone 7 via ZUNE ANY TIME" & make a back-up. Than go to C:\Users\"UserID"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update\"DeviceID(Something like 7c335bc8...)" & copy it to a safe place. Than do the update. At least than you'll have a back-up just in case. I am officially dev unlocked & it remained so. All my registry hacks (Max Apps,Banding Bug Fix, Some Volume Registry Edits, Custom Accent Colors, etc.) seem to be okay too. HTC most likely just updated the camera drivers & a few other things. It didn't take long to download, so the update isn't that big. Wish they'd fix the volume issue on the HD7.

From what I read, this is a T-Mobile USA update. Don't know if it's only USA though.
Another side note, it seems as though my screen's color is better after the update (I may just be seeing things).

Mango 7712 Update stuck at step 6

I have an HTC Trophy on Verizon. I have Mango version 7661.WP7_5_Trial installed. When I go to Zune it says I can update to Mango version 7712 and so I do. I get stuck at step 6 "Restarting Your Phone..." and the phone will reboot into the "Connect to PC" image. From there it does nothing. I have waited 60 minutes and it still doesn't do anything.
Please tell me how to get around this because I really want to update to 7712 :-(
P.S: I have tried this on two completely different machines. An HP Pavillion g6 running Ubuntu 11.04 via Windows XP SP3 emulator and a brand new Dell desktop pc running Windows 7. Same result on each.
Edit:
I guess 11th times the charm. Finally updated to 7712. It sucks, however, I somehow lost all my backups and I guess this will be the last kind of Mango I get for a long long long time

[Q] UPDATED TO OFFICIAL MANGO AND STILL UNLOCKED. Confused? Am I on Mango?

After a marathon 3 hours I am finally on Mango according to the Zune Update but I am still unlocked and am able to sideload apps.
There are a few observations I have made though.
1. I cannot add hidden wifi networks which I was able to do when I had installed the HTC Shipped Rom for HTC 7 Pro T7576.
2. The firmware version has not changed not has the SPL which changed when the HTC Shipped Rom was installed.
So do I have Mango or not? I am confused. Please help
hi,
if you installed the shipped rom, then you've basically just reinstalled it in this update. there should be not many changes except a refresh of the registry. if you were previously unlocked, then the updater took that into account, and rewrote the value (this is the kind of stuff it does in the "preparing update" stage). after that, it just rewrote everything. which is not bad.
if you want to get hidden wifi back, just use provxml to rewrite the reg values to show the menu.
enjoy mango. (and try the connected media app, it should work).

I have rolled back to prenodo(7.0.7004) and then updated through Zune to 7.0.7008, 7.0.7403 and finally to Mango but while updating to Mango the Zune's update screen was showing Mango ISV Beta(7720). When i was in 7004 , i used chevron unlock and the ansars xap to keep the unlock going through the updates. One more observation i have is i don't have the Facebook chat as well in the messaging section
Me too thought the same for few hours ,,,, But When I tried to sideload the apps. Mango said "You Cheat ! You are caught .."

[Q] How do I reprovision my phone to get the proper Mango update?

I have the RTM build installed and I came from the beta version. My phone has yet to receive the firmware update from HTC to let the HTC mango apps install. My wife has the same phone, went from nodo to RTM and she to the fw update a month ago.
I think I must have changed my provisioning in order to get the beta. How do I change it back, preferably without having to hard reset the device.
Many thanks in advance.
What did you do to get to the beta version? If it was just using the official tools, you should be fine. If you used a tool off XDA or a similar site, which one was it?
You could try Ansar's U2M7720 app, I guess, though I don't know if it will work for you. My phone got prompted for the retail build (from the beta) a month or so back. You can always try connecting it to Zune and doing the "pull-the-plug" trick, too.
Also, be wary of the latest HTC update. It will prevent apps like TouchXplorer from working. Specifically, it breaks the HTC ComRegRW.dll and ComFileRW.dll libraries. COMDMXML.dll, used for ProvXML, seems to still work, though. The big problem is that this means you can't use Connection Setup to interop-unlock your phone. If you interop-unlock on 7720 before installing the HTC update, you will keep interop-unlock. However, if you get both updates together (which is how MS is now pushing them out), or if you later lose interop-unlock for any reason, you won't be able to get it back!
I have tried pulling the plug for hours and it never works. Very annoying as I have got it to work with other peoples phones which have not had RTM on them.
When I went to the beta I used provision.exe and the beta version of mango. What should I do from here?
Update your Zune
I did update zune but nothing. In the end I pushed the cab file of the firmware to the device, big improvement, smoother and louder. Still not sure if I have the right provisioning but my device is bang up to date for now.

Field Test doesnt work on some ROMs (HTC)

Ive used a few ROMs for HTC Trophy and have found that some ROMs, the Field Test doesnt work. Ive tried a few codes that I knew of, and the only thing you get is Field Test Loading ....
The chef of the ROM isnt sure why it doesnt work. Can anyone else shed light on this? What would be the reason it doesnt work, any possible fixes?

sianto1997 and I fired a few private messages back in forth, hopefully we'll get sianto1997's SparkW rom to the level of XevRev in the programming department very soon!

Well, I was doing some digging on this today.. by accident.. while I waited for my frank-n-spark-w to finish an update test. I noticed my frank-n-spark-w had a newer PRL, so I tired to update it on my primary phone running myXevRev beta 1a... no go. I cannot get my PRL to update?!
I talked to ultrashot before the release of my rom (because I didn't see the point if I couldn't at least get the phone to program, which wasn't possible previously), and he told me to update the Xap Deployer package found in Dynamics7 to the newest version [v1.1-upd1]. Sure enough, after that, the phone appears to program.. but it can fail if done too quickly after first boot.
I know Servicetools.xap from the PMENU package is installing correctly now beyond a reasonable doubt (otherwise ##PST# wouldn't work in my rom), but I can't be sure EmbeddedTool.xap is installing correctly. I think that package had to do with the actual modification of the radio data for the CDMA Trophy during *228 programming.
I've got a GoldC (HTC Pro 7 or Arrive for Sprint users) from US Cellular on the way, so I'll be diving into that phone soon enough. I want to know if US Cellular and Sprint users have had similar programming issues with their phones and unlocked roms.. but haven't really had time to look up the info or go ask them. XD Sprint phones program using a different process then Verizon, plus Sprint can usually push PRL updates out whenever they want to users. US Cellular.. I dunno how they work vs Sprint.
After today though, I'm sure that even with some of the issue worked out, but other parts remain to be fixed. I swore that on a stock SparkW, that the phone would automatically put itself into airplane mode for a second after programing, but it doesn't appear to do that using my XevRev rom, but you can still program the phone even after a full factory reset (which isn't possible using DFT or older Dynamics7 for full unlock with SparkW).
Ultrashot may have some more ideas, but I'll test to confirm which part is still broken. I still have yet to try unsigning the xap in question and seeing if it will install then. The default xaps in that package are signed just like Market Place xap files, even though you can't download them as Market Place apps. ^^; I'm still working on getting my kitchen back up and running after my desktop died, so I'll be exploring this issue again soon.

No problem anymore! I (am the chef, and I) fixed it in v1.5.4! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909006)
(an for the HTC Arrive, I made that rom already! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900007))
My ROMs are all now smooth and just working. Thank you very much!

Okay, EmbeddedTool was working in my rom, you need to dial ##634# to access it. Still, there is something funky with programing okay on.. I'm going to make a video so I can demonstrate it.
