Strange issue. When i am reading news feeds in the stock browser and there is a video embedded in a webpage (i.e. playing a review video on engagdget) and i click play on the video inside the browser, it loads the sound but no video shows. Not until I open the video inside the youtube app does the video show. Any resolutions for this issue? I am running CM7 on my thunderbolt.
This is a known issue with CM7. Try this fix though. http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/25350-fix-for-flash-103-on-cm7/

Ok, I don't know if it is just me but when I upload videos I make on my Xoom to Youtube using the Youtube app they become choppy and out of sync. The videos play fine on my Xoom, they just upload wrong. Is this just me or have others experienced this?
Hey I just tested this with a video shot on my Evo 4G (cyanogen 7), and then edited on my Xoom, then uploaded to youtube using my Xoom. The video plays fine both on my Xoom locally and from YouTube. Also plays fine from the you tube website using flash.

It takes a while for a video uploaded to YouTube to be fully transcoded into every resolution available, and during the process, if you try to view the video it will often stutter and desync at some resolutions.
At least, that's my experience.
Try going back and looking at your video after a few hours.
I'm looking for a video player that can play in the background. Example, so while a video is playing i could go to the homescreen and bring up the browser for a minute then go back to the movie without the video stopping.
Nextvid works, i use it

That works great for YouTube videos but I am looking for something that will work with my .avi and .mp4 videos so I can listen to the videos while I browse the web

Stick it is a great one but it puts the videos in front but they can be resized and moved where you like.
Edit:in the settings it has an option to play in the background aswell.(i believe just added feature today)

Maybe Popcorn Player is something that meets your needs. It plays mp4 very well in a window that can be resized, so you can watch, listen and surf at the same time.
Mxplayer and download mxplayerncodec armv7
quad core project butter smoothnes
bs player is a great player with pop up video function that works very well. I use it in junction with mx player to test 10 bit video files.
google up "bs player google play"
This is fire, we don't have quad core.

+1 for bsplayer, it's awesome.
With the pop out function you not only can browse the web and keep watching, but I've even ran a gba emulator while watching a video simultaneously.
It's awesome.
Plus the lan function works really well. Also bookmarking.
The app "Super Video" also has the video box that can be sized and run on top of any application. Works good for .mp4s but I'm not sure about .avi's

Also try the app “YT Mobile” for playing YouTube videos in the background

you tried ES File explorer? if you have/get it navigate over to movies/videos on the main screen or find your video then long press it until you can get options for the file and select open as... then select music. the use your app of choise the press the home button. OR vlc should alow it to play VIDEOS yes the actuall video in a small box in other apps.
I have noticed that everytime I play hd videos online, the video player controls won't go away and just keeps on going on and off. I do have other video players other than the stock one, and I have no problem playing videos using the youtube app, or the stock browser. Playing videos offline is also not an issue, as this problem only occurs when I use other browsers like dolphin, and skyfire. Just to be clear, I am talking about just about any hd, or hq videos online from any site. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a way for me to play said videos using another player? thanks.
P.S I am running on stock ROM.
If the videos are on either PutLocker or Nowvideo, you can use this. It plays the file in your favorite video player.

My phone hates every video format known to man, it plays youtube videos in black annd white but can be fixed by pressing the hq option. With html 5 video players, it says sorry cant be played. I tried realitylapse videos which can be played for a 5 minutes but after that it freezes, and the video cant be fast forwarded, the admin mentioned his videos are handbrake encoded. On a crunchyroll app , it freezes and restarts my phone everytime i play a video. I have tried mx,qq and kascend players.
Turns out i can only play videos in .mov format.
I have a theory that its related to a omadrm service thats running.any ideas or solutions to what this could be?
I just updated to the newest YouTube app and the video quality is just awful. I've selected the HD video option in app settings, selected HQ in video settings, but its the same.
Is there some trick to play HD video?
Also, my internet connection is not the cause of this, because I can play 1080p videos on my PC without a problem.

I've had problems with streaming HD video on the youtube app before, I just found it was the wifi, as in distance from the router. I could be totally wrong but it worked for me, you might also want to try playing them through the browser not the app, that also seemed to make them stream faster, good luck.
