I know that video chat has been a hit or miss feature for users of this phone so I just want to share that the latest update to the Google+ app for Android includes support for video chat, or Hangouts as Google+ calls them. I've tested it on CM7 (recent nightly) and it works perfectly, including sound. From what I read it is supported on 2.3+ devices. I haven't personally tested it with anything other than CM7, so maybe someone else can try it with a stock-based rom and see if it works.
I don't see a way yet to initiate a Hangout from the mobile app, but if someone else starts a Hangout then you can join it from the app. It supports multiple video feeds being displayed on your phone screen. Hopefully they'll add the ability to start a Hangout from within the app. That'd be perfecto!
Here is a photo of me testing it between my phone and my wife's computer.

Ya know...I had never even though about doing that. Gonna try it out tomorrow. The messaging app seems to work fine (some of my old frat brothers and I tried it out) but haven't seen the hangout spot in action. I don't know why this never even crossed my mind, lol.
It works on stock Gingerbread. The only caveat is that you have to hold it in landscape mode or else the image will be upsidedown if help in portrait. Both ffc and rear cam works well over 4g and wifi.
It makes you wonder why gtalk video needs 2.3.4+ to work.

Yea I wonder what the difference is between this and gtalk and why the different requirements.
Thanks for testing it on stock GB. I've only tried it on CM7 and 2.2.2. It definitely does NOT work on 2.2.2. CM7 works perfectly. The video isn't upside down or anything.

Honestly I never used qik so I wouldn't know how to compare. But this is very clear over wifi. Still need to try over 4G.

I'm using Weapons GB ROM and my video shows up sideways. When I rotate the phone, the video snaps and rotates again, remaining sideways.
I was looking but maybe I missed it.. is there a way to send invites from the app..

One of the reasons I bought the EVO was because it had a stunning 8 MP camera with a dual led flash. There are a lot of applications for the camera and for every occasion you could use different apps to get the best possible shot. I'm sure there are a lot of photography enthusiasts on this forum who can share their pictures and discuss about the various applications and its features.
Please mention the app that you've used along with any additional information.
While posting remember to include the following.
1. Post Picture
2. Name of the App
3. Additional Settings

Is Fxcamera the best camera app?? I just got it and it seems to work pretty nice.. I like it..
But I remember reading there was one program that was horrible for battery life.. 360camera or something..
Does anyone know if FXcamera is running after I shut it down?

Anyone else try this out?

The only thing that's weird is that when you log in, if you have no one to video chat with, your contact list is just white and empty. It does NOT show all your normal contacts; only video-enabled contacts. This was very confusing until I figured it out. So make sure you have someone in your contact list that can accept video calls. Screenshot below:

I tested this on my MyTouch 4g running a rooted stock rom. It works great with one exception it only uses the back camera. I tried to switch it to the forward facing camera but it only showed "back camera" or "no camera" as my 2 options. would be great if it recognized the front camera.
Here is the screenshot i forgot to attach
Okay, gave it a shot on the OG Droid. It actually worked, both voice and back camera video. It's 17mb with no SD support so I had to dump it right after I tested it. Unless they can trim it down, not practical on an older phone with less than 512 app Ram. Still, Gtalk video on 2.2 is an exceptional feat, so good job Dev team (Skymobius).
Just tested on my GF's MyTouch 4G (running CM7). Both to my PC and to my Nexus One (via Vtok) worked great. Of course, no front facing camera on my Nexus One ( ) but still, very awesome app for integrating with Google Chat and not having to deal with any of this 2.3.4 funny business. (Seriously, what is that requirement for? If a 3rd party app developer can do it, why does Google need an entire Android system update?)
And it's free!
(BTW, to alleviate the space issue, get CM7 and force it to SD card )
works on my i9000 running a jvb rooted rom. but the video is always sideways using the ffc. the back camera works well. the quality of the feed is pretty good, but can be laggy. thanks for the tip
...i tried Skype, tried GoogleTalk/Voice, tried several apps... and they all fail.
...is there a way to use the FFC to video chat without having a custom rom?
and does it have to be on WiFi?

Only way to get the video calling to work in Infuse now is to upgrade to gingerbread rom.
It does not need to be a custom rom, just a vanilla stock GB rom.
Here is the link for gingerbread stock rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193927
There you will see two roms you can download, one requires Odin flash
and the other one can be flashed with clockworkmod recovery.
Either one of these two roms work for video chat and front facing camera.
Also the video chat apps are not wifi only.
If you decide to upgrade, follow the easy step by step instructions in the
link above.

I was searching on net but didn't get clear picture of video calling through the phone itself.
It need so development which nobody will waste time on so only thing is can wait and expect google to update directly.
but would really want 3g native video calling. these features are diabled by the carrier provider.... thats so bad.
Use Fring..... It works on Infuse whether it's 2.2 or 2.3....
I find it works better for me then qik or tango...

I doubt that the updated skype in the market has the video
fixed, but there is a MODIFIED Skype which works great with video.
Try the updated one from the market first just to be sure.

You never said you were using froyo!!!
Skype with Video will NEVER work on froyo rom.
Best thing for you is to upgrade to either stock
gingerbread rom or a gingerbread custom rom
like Infuse v2.0.0 rom. You can download it from
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195571
Be sure you follow all the instructions to a "T" if you don't want
to have to start all over again from scratch.
Then you can install the modified skype with working video.
Have a great day,
Enjoy!
Please don't forget to give me a big THANKS if reading this was helpful to you!
I have the latest unmodified Skype working on Infuse 1.5.3, but only the rear camera works. The other side said the video was smooth and clear. So Froyo does work with Skype.
Has anybody tried the market's latest version release v. 2.1.0.46 on a gingerbread Infuse, like gtg's v.2.0 ? How is that different from the modified v. 2.0.0.47 posted in the thread?
Thank you in advance for any response.
