Vtok - Google VideoChat WITHOUT rooting etc - Android Apps and Games

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.skymobius.vtok
Just tested and it works amazingly well. I'm using a Nexus One which doesn't have a a front facing camera and it still works. The other side sees out my back camera and voice transmits just fine. I'm using CM7.
Anyone else try this out?
Works very well.

Downloading now, I'll report back in a few.

The only thing that's weird is that when you log in, if you have no one to video chat with, your contact list is just white and empty. It does NOT show all your normal contacts; only video-enabled contacts. This was very confusing until I figured it out. So make sure you have someone in your contact list that can accept video calls. I tested this on my MyTouch 4g running a rooted stock rom. It works great with one exception it only uses the back camera. I tried to switch it to the forward facing camera but it only showed "back camera" or "no camera" as my 2 options. would be great if it recognized the front camera.

Here is the screenshot i forgot to attach

Okay, gave it a shot on the OG Droid. It actually worked, both voice and back camera video. It's 17mb with no SD support so I had to dump it right after I tested it. Unless they can trim it down, not practical on an older phone with less than 512 app Ram. Still, Gtalk video on 2.2 is an exceptional feat, so good job Dev team (Skymobius).

Just tested on my GF's MyTouch 4G (running CM7). Both to my PC and to my Nexus One (via Vtok) worked great. Of course, no front facing camera on my Nexus One ( ) but still, very awesome app for integrating with Google Chat and not having to deal with any of this 2.3.4 funny business. (Seriously, what is that requirement for? If a 3rd party app developer can do it, why does Google need an entire Android system update?)
And it's free!
(BTW, to alleviate the space issue, get CM7 and force it to SD card )

works on my i9000 running a jvb rooted rom. but the video is always sideways using the ffc. the back camera works well. the quality of the feed is pretty good, but can be laggy. thanks for the tip

FFC in reverse?

First off let me save it my apt for some reason isn't loading up G2x q&a, which is why I'm posting here.
Now for my question.
Has anyone noticed, that the front facing camera takes pictures in mirror image?
Case in point:

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Here is the same item using the RFC:
Just found it interesting. Anyone know why?

Maybe because its use is for video calls...stand infront of a mirror and talk, thats how the other person actually sees you.

Ehhhh, I appreciate the input, but my webcam doesn't work like that. Although, who am I to discredit your theory, it's better than mine which is better than any thing I can come up with.

/facepalm
open the FFC and hold the phone facing you but near a wall, right or left side is fine... now switch it to the RFC and hold it near the wall... view the photo taken with the RFC from the view that the camera was facing, keep the FFC view facing you... see how the wall on the two different camera views are both on the same side?
if it is still not clicking then lets try this... go to a MIRROR, imagine that the person you are seeing is not really yourself (hard i know lol but think abstractly)... point at THEIR left eye... now, point to YOUR left eye...
now think of the different cameras in the position of the mirror instead and how the different views would effect what you are actually seeing... have fun with this mindfuck
It is all about the orientation of you and the camera and what the camera is viewing then what it is displaying back to us...
btw the FCC is showing the correct view

Picasa uploading issue (~30% of each picture will be flat grey)

I tried to upload some pictures to picasa from the sense ui. About 30% from the bottom of each picture there's a flat gray surface. The photos are good at the device and I can copy them to pc without problem.
Anyone experiencing the same problem?
A sample downloaded from picasa:

I've had the exact same problem on this phone, and with my old desire. Only with the stock rom though. I don't believe anyone ever bottomed the cause of it. Popular theory was it was a bug with the default uploader of htc sense. Try using a different uploader.
Have you tried using the picasa tool app to upload?

Thanks. Haven't found any threads about this. I've reported the issue to HTC yesterday, will post the answer here. If there will be any. This is my first bugreport to them, I don't know how they handle these.
I don't want to use a third party tool for this until it will be really neccessary. I even don't know why photos aren't synchronized with my account?
Best of luck! This problem has been reported to HTC by hundreds of people over at least the last year. I just tried uploading with my custom ROM, same problem. (Type "Picasa Upload Grey" into Google!)
Some people have also reported that reducing the photo size helps. It doesn't for me. Even if I drop the setting on my camera from 5MP to 3MP it still gets the grey bar of fail.
The Picasa Tool app is actually very good. It will pop up in the list when you select 'share' and the app has recently had a massive UI overhaul and is a vast improvement over what is was a year ago.
We may be in for a long wait for HTC to get around to fixing this one!
I'll give picasa tool a try then. Just wonder if the issue still exists in the newer sense apps, too?
I came across that issue trying watch the gallery photos over DLNA on my TV. Any1 else?
Passed finally to HTC HQ
After some emails and answers to HTC the issue is finally passed to HTC HQ regarding to their last mail. I have sent them a half uploaded photo and attached many references to the problem found by google.
I think they have now realised that this is not a stand alone problem (first they suggested me to soft reset / uninstall picasa app which wasn't installed either / hard reset phone).

S3
Tested on wife's Sprint Evo 3d running Android 4.0 and it seemed to work well enough. Seems to crash my Sprint Evo Shift running JellyBelly-Omega rom after about 15-20 seconds. Of course my camera has been kind of buggy ever since I dunked it in the toilet. Maybe not the best test case.
Add: Option to delete saved videos in the Facebook app.
Keep up the good work!

I am using Jelly Bean 4.1.1
Have you tried with a different camera? I had a similar problem when installing CM10. I was using Camera ZoomFX and it started to work terrible. Stock camera, on the other hand, worked much better. I just went back to the stock one and forgot about it.

I have tried:
1. Stock Camera App
2. Camere Zoom FX
3. Camera ICS
But I did not get better result from my phone's camera... Stock camera and Camera ICS do not allow me to use TOUCH FOCUS on the other hand in Camera Zoon Fx when I touch on the screen it shows sometimes Red and sometimes Green box depend upon the situation but actually it does not focus that green box is just for showing, it actually does not focus the subject, I have tried different settings but no good focus and no good pictures
do a factory reset, then upgrade to 4.1.2
this was a shot made with my i9023 + stock google 4.1.2, about 5 months ago:

Camera not working

Hi,
yesterday i bought 32gb nexus 5 for 150 euros (around 190 dollars). the reason for its modest price was camera which doesnt work.
i flashed full factory image 4.4.4, custom roms and kernels, did factory reset, booted in safe mode, cleared camera cache and data, but no luck.
Camera app doesnt show up in app drawer or dock in gn launcher. When I launch camera, the screen stays black (like its loading but ultimatively it doesnt). Sometimes i get: camera has crashed, or cant connect to the camera. Other camera apps also dont work, flashlight apps dont work.
Now, its obvious to me that this is hardvare isue. Camera doesnt seem like its damaged at all, lens is alright.
Today i teard my n5 down and removed rear and front facing camera and put them back in, and it still doesnt work.
My question is: if i buy new a rear and front camera and install them, can I expect camera to work? Is it possible that something else isnt working properly (maybe logicboard is damaged or something like that). I ask because i dont have knowledge about smartphones hardware. Would replacing cameras do the job?
Thanks in advance, i hope someone has experience with this kind of problem.
I don't know for sure but it could possibly be a corrupt camera driver issue.. The only thing that would make me think replacing the cameras won't work is that the flash/flashlight doesn't work either.. But I dunno if the camera is bad if that'll affect the flash/flashlight as well
I'll do a little research and get back to you
Ok strange thing : now torch built in Mahdi rom works but other flashlight apps don't :
