I actually rooted my Inspire, loaded the Euro DHD ROM and tried it on T-Mobile this morning. It worked, but no 3G, much less 4G.
So what would need to be done to get that type of thing to work fully? Something with the baseband or something right?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
It can't be done, the hardware is different, you won't get anything better that edge
i really need my inspire unlocked?
just wait a few months, the htc incredible S is supposed to coming to Tmobile and that device has same specs as the inspire except smaller screen and has FFC.
Unlock it and you're good to go! That is, if you don't care for 3G/4G
The Inspire's 3G radio is incompatible with the bands used by T-Mobile unfortunately
i want the big screen though lol. I have a g2 right now and I'm really just craving one of those huge screens. What about the Desire HD? would that work on TMO? or is there any other options out there?

your option is an hd2 on android
I don't get it. One of the reason I pick Inspire because it has the same 2G/3G band frequency like the Desire Z (G2). If Desire Z works then why not the Inspire?
Quote from GSMArena:
HTC Desire Z
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100, HSDPA 850 / 1900 - North America
HTC Inspire 4G
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900
Even the Incredible S is not 1700 band
HTC Incredible S
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
The desire z looks like it does not work on t-mobile either. T-mobile needs 1700/2100 for 3g, which are not listed in the specs yet posted.
Can I use T-Mobile 3G devices on another carrier’s 3G networks?
You will not be able to roam with your T-Mobile 3G device on another carrier's 3G network. T-Mobile devices use the 1700Mhz/2100Mhz frequency band (for 3G) and it is specific to T-Mobile. You can however roam on another carrier's 1900Mhz frequency band using GSM. Likewise, another carrier’s 3G devices will not be able to roam on our 3G network.

But his question is specifically asking to use 3g on other carriers. Which the answer is no, even rooting won't help. It's a hardware limitation.
its something i have thought bout but why would you pay that much for a phone tht will only run on the Edge. Wait for the Pyramid to come out or get a Desire HD from ebay. its just the European version and has the bands ability. or like what has been mentioned before about the HD2 and load it with Android. Thats what Im using which is awesome becasue you can use the HSDPA speeds and 3G speeds and have that huge 4.3 inch display and still have a 1ghz snapdragon processor.. another awesome thing about it is that there is SOOO many roms you can load to customize your phone like if you wanted the basic Sense Rom like the inspire or the Evo there are plenty of roms for it, if yo wanted the MyTouch 4G rom then you can load it, if you wanted a Nexus Rom then you can load it, and its much faster with updates so you can even have Gingerbread already on your phone and they are even already gettting the bugs worked out of having Honeycomb on the good ole HD2. its overall a very under rated phone but thats because it had tons of issues with WinMo 6.5 but with ANdroid loaded on it I havent had problem one with it.. Im sure others have thier opinion but thats mine for it.. hopefully any info helps...

didn't you read the quote i replied too? i said nothing about being able to use 3g, infact, i said quite the opposite, i confirmed like others, 3g will not work. gotta love ppl who don't read what you actually posted.
Oh I missed the last statement of your post. It was tagged there at the end.
AT&T to Buy T-Mobile for $39 Billion USD
AT&T to Buy T-Mobile for $39 Billion USD
T-Mobile 3G (i think 4G also) Phones Will Require Replacement After AT&T Merger
SO buying this phone and unlocking it will give u a little while to use T-Mobiles services (maybe 2 years AT MOST) after that u will need an AT&T phone
but the trade off to being able to use T-Mobile for a while is that u will be at slower speeds for a while BEFORE AT&T destroys this grate service provider
can you say "Cingular" ?
so this is the best GSM phone as it will be merger proof !!
Internet settings?
hey guys i realize this is an older post but i rooted and unlocked my htc inspire and put in a Tmobile sim card and calls work fine and text messages too the phone automatically detected apn and everything but i cant get it to connect to the internet what should i do is there a way to set to 2g networks only? is that even required?

Hi everyone,
sorry for a noob question.
I have a HTC HD2 running an android rom (Typhonn), and tomorrow, i'm going to buy a new HTC, the Htc Sensation. The store says it is a HTC Sensation 4G (T-MObile version).
I have been reading a lot of stuff about, but untill now i'm still unable to distinguish a 4G model from other sensation ( i don't know how it used to be named - maybe vanilla whatelse).
Is there a specific serial number or a simple test or any sign or place in settings or configurations i can go to confirm if it is the genuine 4G model?
Once again, sorry for my bad english, for my noob question, and thanks in advance for your attention.
p.s. yes, i've already googled for it, but find lots of confusing pictures and reviews.

Youll probably see the T-Mobile logo on it somewhere near the top front of the screen. Also, if this is any sort of reputable dealer, they ought know what they have.
Matt
Easy, the unbranded one has HTC logo in the middle, and 4G version has HTC logo on the left and T-mobile logo on the right (below the top speaker)
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
As both are HSPA+ capable, they are both "4G."

Thank you Rod3, so the only difference is the T-Mobile (or Bell) logo in the right side, just below speaker? Because there are some sites talking sensation is 3G dual band, and 4G is 3G triband. This all based on this comparation.

look at both 3G network line, 4G additional 1700 Mhz capable. This is right?
Maybe it has a sign in the battery like HTC HD2. Can u tell me if your sensatio battery has the model of phone type printed?
Once again thanks.

There is a difference that is more than cosmetic and that as you already mentioned is the data bands. Where are you and what bands does your provider use for 3G/4G data?

Sorry to raise this again, but, really? I bought a T-Mobile unlocked Sensation 4G, and on the website I bought it from (newaci.com) the UMTS bands were listed as 900, 1700, 2100. The box, however, had the following on it - 1700, 2100, 1900 (in that order). Now I am using this beauty on Wind Mobile, with is UMTS 1700, so that's fine, but what I'd like to ascertain is whether my phone will work AS 3G (that's crucial) on Bell or Rogers (they both use UMTS 1900 as 3G band).
I don't even know how I can check it. I have a Bell SIM, but as I ported my number, it is no longer able to log on to Bell network (and the plan that came with it didn't have data anyway). HOWEVER, when I put this Bell SIM card into the phone and ask it to search for WCDMA-only networks, it _does_ detect Bell network. But again, as my SIM is not registered at Bell anymore, I cannot register and so I cannot check properly.
Thanks for clarifying in advance.
EDIT: I just checked newayci.com, and it used to be listed on newayci.com as 900-1700-2100 two weeks ago, but now they've corrected the specs to 1900-1700-2100. _However_, again, in the carrier chart them guys claim that the phone, as far as mobile internet browsing is concerned, will only work as 2G on Rogers, and that it won't work on Bell at all - which doesn't add up at all, if UMTS 1900 band is really in the phone (for both Bell and Rogers use it for 3G).

So from what you're saying the phone has worked fully on both 3G & 4G on the TMobile network. Looking at the AT&T website their all their phones are either 3G or 4G. So it should work.
Does your AT&T contract support 3G ? I know when I got my first 3G enabled phone they had to ship me a 3G SIM card for it to work. It might be that it's the SIM card that's the issue. I've never had to modify APNs etc. even when swapping network providers away from Vodafone. Insert the new SIM and it just works.

Yea i had an Iphone 3gs with a 3g data plan. And everything ive seen posted with unlocked sensations all have the same problem with att. But ive seen that there is a version that supports att 3g which is what im trying to figure out
This post has the bands that the T-Mobile htc sensation 4g supports:
http://www.htc.com/us/products/sensation4g-tmobile#tech-specs
And this post says if it supports HSPA/UMTS/HSPA+ on 850 and 1900, it should support att 3g
http://androidforums.com/t/358106-unlocked-htc-sensation-4g-t-smart-phone-sim.html
The first post confirms that the phone supports both 850 and 1900 on HSPA+. All of this is new to me so if this is completely wrong then sorry. Just seems right to me.
It looks like the AT&T and T-Mobile networks are different, this is where I guess the issue is. The more I dug the worse it got. I have to admit that I'd assume this would be a simple answer but it looks like there are different flavours of 4G.
So apologies to the earlier poster that mentioned the frequencies.

T-Mobile US Sensation (Z710E) DOES NOT support anything higher than 2G on AT&T's networks because it doesn't operate on the proper 3G frequency. The Bell Sensation (Z710A) from Canada DOES work on AT&T 3G because its hardware uses the proper frequency.

ATT uses micro sim, that's not an issue.
Frankly I find these LTE just getting to be ridiculously big. The HTC One S is the perfect size imo.
According to the FCC document for the t-mobile version, it's supports WCDMA 850 (ATT), 1700 (T-mobile) and 1900 (ATT,T-mobile). So I should fine on ATT's network as long as I put in the correct APN right?
Also looking for clarification on this...
It probably will, but it has to be unlocked and for that to happen, we need S-Off which could very well be a few months away. Why don't you buy the international, unlocked version outright? You also get your choice of colors (red/black as well instead of just blue/grey).
Wow, not a straight answer yet, YES and unlocked HTC One S will work on ATT 3G (1900mhz). No ATT LTE support. Contrary to above micro-sim is not a problem, att iphones use them and of course you can always cut it as well.

I thought it had the 850 band for 3G only. I don't see any specs that say it has the 1900 band for 3G. This tells me it will only work in places that AT&T has 3G on the 850 band. Does ATT use 1900 at all for 3G?

ATT uses 1900, in some markets, ATT uses the mixture of both, 850 has better penetration in urban areas (tall buildings ...)
I'm interested in the phone, but i'm going to be using it on ATT. Can somebody that has the device tell us what is the FCC ID?
Quick trip to Phone Scoop website, i can see that there are two FCC ID's associated with the phone. NM8PJ40110 passed the tests using ATT WCDMA bands (band II 1900 and band V 850) and T-Mobile bands (band IV 1700/2100). NM8PJ40100 passed only ATT bands. Both doesn't show any reference to any test on WCDMA 2100 (band I), which probably means that the phone doesn't support the international 3G band.
In short, theoretically, the T-Mobile's version of HTC One S should work on ATT 3G bands (WCDMA band II and WCDMA band V), however, the phone would not support ATT LTE.
Since the hardware is there (FCC website proves it, unless if the official T-Mobile USA version got pushed with different FCC ID that i do not know), the phone should work on ATT 3G, but nothing prevents T-Mobile to disable the ATT 3G radios in their ROM. I think that S-OFF would give opportunity to enable the ATT radios (if they are blocked)
We will see ...
Take care,
From my experience, the ATT radio is not blocked and works fine.

Anyone know of this is real. I didn't think they made a Pentaband one s. I will probably contact them tomorrow. It's also in black.

Doubt it, but if it is, I'd love to know. I'd be all in for that one.
As far as I know the HTC One S international version does not have the 1900 3G band for at&t, only the Tmobile version does(pentaband) & this is because tmobile is currently in the process of refarming their network to add the 1900 3G band which has always been the 3G frequency used by at&t in the U.S. This means if you get the tmobile branded One S it will definitely work with the at&t 3G just like the HTC Amaze 4G would also, hope this helps

that's correct. using a us tmobile htc one s on ATT right now
however, one issue I have run into is that sometimes data doesnt work. It remains "connected" constantly, but then up/down data is always cutting.. dont know if its a software or hardware problem
