[Q] How distinguish HTC Sensation 4G from HTC Sensation? - HTC Sensation

Hi everyone,
sorry for a noob question.
I have a HTC HD2 running an android rom (Typhonn), and tomorrow, i'm going to buy a new HTC, the Htc Sensation. The store says it is a HTC Sensation 4G (T-MObile version).
I have been reading a lot of stuff about, but untill now i'm still unable to distinguish a 4G model from other sensation ( i don't know how it used to be named - maybe vanilla whatelse).
Is there a specific serial number or a simple test or any sign or place in settings or configurations i can go to confirm if it is the genuine 4G model?
Once again, sorry for my bad english, for my noob question, and thanks in advance for your attention.
p.s. yes, i've already googled for it, but find lots of confusing pictures and reviews.

Youll probably see the T-Mobile logo on it somewhere near the top front of the screen. Also, if this is any sort of reputable dealer, they ought know what they have.
Matt

Easy, the unbranded one has HTC logo in the middle, and 4G version has HTC logo on the left and T-mobile logo on the right (below the top speaker)
Swyped from my HTC Sensation

As both are HSPA+ capable, they are both "4G."

Thank you guys. But i've already read about 4G distributted by canadian Bell, then this 4G model comes with a Bell logo in the upper right instead of T-Mobile logo?

Thank you Rod3, so the only difference is the T-Mobile (or Bell) logo in the right side, just below speaker? Because there are some sites talking sensation is 3G dual band, and 4G is 3G triband. This all based on this comparation.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3922&idPhone2=3875
look at both 3G network line, 4G additional 1700 Mhz capable. This is right?
Maybe it has a sign in the battery like HTC HD2. Can u tell me if your sensatio battery has the model of phone type printed?
Once again thanks.

You are correct. Just the HTC logo under the speaker.

Done.
T-Mobile 4g model bought.
Everything is ok. Actualy no real difference from sensation unbranded (technical specs), just only the T-Mo logo.
Thanks you all.
See you on Sensations subforum.
p.s. Time to read a lot about starting rooting, s-off , mods, roms and other things about this beauty.

There is a difference that is more than cosmetic and that as you already mentioned is the data bands. Where are you and what bands does your provider use for 3G/4G data?

Really? They might be the same on the tmo and the bell mobility versions but the OP didn't mention bell mobility. And I could be mistaken, but doesn't the tmo version have different bands then say the unbranded european version?

Sorry to raise this again, but, really? I bought a T-Mobile unlocked Sensation 4G, and on the website I bought it from (newaci.com) the UMTS bands were listed as 900, 1700, 2100. The box, however, had the following on it - 1700, 2100, 1900 (in that order). Now I am using this beauty on Wind Mobile, with is UMTS 1700, so that's fine, but what I'd like to ascertain is whether my phone will work AS 3G (that's crucial) on Bell or Rogers (they both use UMTS 1900 as 3G band).
I don't even know how I can check it. I have a Bell SIM, but as I ported my number, it is no longer able to log on to Bell network (and the plan that came with it didn't have data anyway). HOWEVER, when I put this Bell SIM card into the phone and ask it to search for WCDMA-only networks, it _does_ detect Bell network. But again, as my SIM is not registered at Bell anymore, I cannot register and so I cannot check properly.
Thanks for clarifying in advance.
EDIT: I just checked newayci.com, and it used to be listed on newayci.com as 900-1700-2100 two weeks ago, but now they've corrected the specs to 1900-1700-2100. _However_, again, in the carrier chart them guys claim that the phone, as far as mobile internet browsing is concerned, will only work as 2G on Rogers, and that it won't work on Bell at all - which doesn't add up at all, if UMTS 1900 band is really in the phone (for both Bell and Rogers use it for 3G).

T-Mobile (USA) HTC Sensation not working on Telus(CAD)?

Hey guys,
My friend just bought a HTC Sensation for T mobile from the states, (we are from Canada) and he wants to connect it on his Telus contract. Yes he does have a sim card, and he had it unlocked already. The problem is he is not getting any service and when he goes into settings and tries to register his network it only comes up with Rogers? Now I know that T mobile runs at 1700 MHz/2100 MHz and Telus at 1900MHz, but from what I have read else where it should work? If not, would changing to possibly a Bell modem work for his handset, or is he SOL?
thanks guys!
Since Telus only uses "4G" for their network, (ie. no EDGE/2g) a Sensation from T-Mobile will not work on Telus at all. Tell him to sell it and buy the Bell version and unlock it.

[Q] How to get onto AT&T's HSPA network?

Hello,
I am an AT&T customer and I just got this great phone recently. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed Android Revolution and unlocked the SIM today. When I did that, the phone located AT&T's Edge network. I can't get it to recognize AT&T's 3G/HSPA+ network, though.
On the back of my box it shows it should operate on Frequency: GSM:850,900,1800,1900 UTMS:1700,2100,1900. Isn't AT&T on 850 and 1900? I had HSPA+ on my Atrix before getting this phone.
I did a forum search and saw that someone said Tweakker worked for them. I tried that but all it seemed to do was charge me 99 cents. I am still on Edge. Another post mentioned changing the APN settings, but that was for the Bell Sensation. Hope I'm missing something simple. Help?
You need 850 and 1900 UMTS bands.
There are two Sensations. The Z710e and Z710a. You have the e and you need the a.

I'm afraid you have the wrong sensation. Like the post above said, you need the Telstra\Bell\Virgin mobile sensation which is z710a
Thanks, guys. I didn't know I needed both 850 and 1900. I'm having a really hard time finding a phone that works on AT&T and is not one of their own. Oh well, back to Craigslist with this one.

hey guys, is there a way to see what bands my sensation has. i got a unlocked/unbranded one from expansys-usa. My carrier uses 850 and 1900MHz for the 4g network. would like to know if my sensation has those bands.
Thanks
Just had a quick look on the HTC product overview website and it says it is definitely quad band - htc.com/nz/smartphones/htc-sensation/#specs
However this is for nz.
Would link it but haven't posted enough.

You need to find out if it's a Z710e (900Mhz) or the Z710a (850Mhz). I'm afraid I don't know how you tell one from the other. Mine is a Z710e and under the battery it says PG58130, possibly the 850Mhz one is PG58100 but I can't confirm. The box that mine came in also states Z710e and 3G 900/AWS/2100.

The quad band aspect is for Voice and Edge, 2G. The 3G (also branded as 4G) is band specific, e.g. a US based 850Mhz phone would not have 3G in the UK or Europe AKAIK.

Wil US T-Mo One S work on AT&T?

I have AT&T service in the US and was interested in purchasing a US T-Mobile gradient blue One S to use with it. Will there be any issues with 3G/4G? Does the US T-Mobile One S support AT&T's data network fully?
Yes but I believe you will only get Edge Data.
EDGE is not 3G though, right?
Anyway, to quote Amazon.com's One S Page:
It runs on T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ networks (850 MHz;900 MHz;1800 MHz;1900 MHz;UMTS: Band I (2100);UMTS: Band IV (AWS);UMTS: Band IV (1700/2100)).

That would mean it should work on AT&T's 3G network, right? 850/1900Mhz?
Bah, this is all so confusing.
EDGE is not 3G
You won't get 3G/4G speeds on AT&T with this phone.
Yes, what he said ^^ No 3G or 4G
On GSMArena Review their is written that it is at&t friendly as it has 850/1900 MHz Bands

There's more than one version of the One S. The international One S will work on AT&T just fine.
Both the box it comes in and the specs on the T-Mo support site says the T-Mo One S supports:
Network
3G/4G Capable
GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900
Band I (UMTS2100), Band II (1900), Band IV(1700/2100), Band V (850)
So I think it would get high speeds on AT&T.
I got this same question.. so if I buy this phone on US t mobile it will work with at&t 3G..?? If so I will be buying it right now..!!

Well according to videos and specs sheets t mobile HTC one s can run 3g/h on at&t (
And so, that means I will be getting HTC one s instead of att HTC one x because firstly att unlocked the bootloader and secondly there will be much more development for the htc one s because the att HTC one x is different to the international

You mean AT&T locked the bootloader...
I'm pretty sure GSM is voice/text/2G only and has not much to do with higher speed data. Somebody had posted a picture of the T-mobile One S box, which lists the bands it operates on.. which included UMTS 850 & 1900 as well as GSM 850 & 1900 (plus all the other T-mobile bands, obviously)
Whereas, as far as I can tell, the international One S does NOT have UMTS/HSDPA 1900 but does have GSM 1900

I noticed the same. I just assumed that 1900 is 1900.
Anyway, I have the T-Mobile US One S unlocked and working on ATT. It seems as fast as the one x I had before it. The only strange thing is that when I run a speed test, it says 9kbps down and 1Mbit up. Pings are 150ms.
Browsing the web, downloading apps are much faster than 9kbps. Not sure why it says 9kbps.
**Update**
Ok, so I tried a different speedtest, and I am getting results I would expect.
3.5Mbit Down
1.1Mbit UP
Again, this is the T-Mobile US version of the One S that I manually unlocked.

Where were you purchasing it from? I signed up for a tmobile contract and paid the $189 for the phone then I think I will pay the $200 ETF in a few weeks. Which would be slightly cheaper than purchasing the phone outright or the international version.

[Q] Is it a Pentaband?

It's not pentaband, but the chip DOES support both 850 Mhz and 1700 Mhz (strange, I know). I believe it's actually quadband WCDMA which means it'll work on Wind/Mobilicity (I have the Telus version too and use it on Wind currently and Rogers prior). It won't work in Europe though, if you travel a lot because I believe they use 900 Mhz out there, which is the band this phone doesn't support.
I've attached proof that it does work on Wind with data, but I don't know how to prove I'm using the Telus model... Just trust me I guess?
AFAIK: Only TMOUS' One S is pentaband.
Check the first table here for frequencies supported on different versions: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5868/htc-one-s-review-international-and-tmobile/7

Yeah contrary to belief, the Canadian One S is NOT the "international" version, but rather the T-Mobile version.
If you want further clarification, check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673378
Does anybody mind looking under the cover for the model / FCC ID / Industry Canada certification numbers and reporting back with the carrier they got the phone from and the FCC ID. They should be printed on the label near the headphones / headset jack.
These are the variants available in Canada.
PJ40100: UMTS Band V (850)
PJ40110: UMTS Band II (1900)/IV (AWS)/V (850)
PJ40200: UMTS Band V (850)

PJ40110 should be written inside the SIM cover thing. It was on mine. I did a lot of digging around to find out whether or not my phone supported AWS. I really hated being with Rogers so I switched to Wind, but I wanted to make sure my dream phone would work before I switched.
I live in Ohio. Here we have T-Mobile and local Cincinnati Bell. Cincinnati Bell gets all their phones from T-Mobile. So if you can get your hands on a Cincinnati Bell One S, that is also pentaband. I have one.

This is misleading information as it is more correctly quadband WCDMA. Pentaband WCDMA would include 900 Mhz as well, which the T-Mobile One S does not have.
Yeah, the Telus One S is pentaband, the T-Mobile One S us quadband(it's missing 900mhz).

According to manbearpig(who is selling his Telus One S), his Telus version is pentaband.

PJ40210: UMTS Band II (1900)/V (850)

I don't know who manbearpig is, but he is wrong. The Telus One S (and all Canadian One S') only support 850/1700/1900/2100. That's 4, not 5 bands. You can look inside your One S SIM cover right now, it says PJ40110 underneath the FCC label.
The Telus One S will NOT work on European WCDMA networks. It is pentaband GSM but not for the WCDMA radio.
If you can show me how the Canadian One S is pentaband, then I will yield. I'm not trying to be a ****, but I've done my research and these are the results and I'm trying to make it clear for anyone who reads this. I hate it when I find misleading info on the internet.

You could be right. Here's the thread where manbearpig was selling his Telus One S and people asked him questions about whether it is truly pentaband.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771097
This is the phone he claims to have: http://www.canadagsm.ca/HTC/HTC-One-S-Unlocked-OEM-AWS-Penta-Band/
You could ask the new owner of the phone to check the box, the T-Mobile One S has the bands listed on the box.

I'm not sure that is exactly the phone he has/had as I was going to buy it from him until he told me it is the silver/blue version. The canadagsm site only lists black as available as far as I can tell. MBP did not say that's where he got it, somebody else posted that link inferring it is the same one. Personally, I am betting it is only a physically unbranded T-mobile US version running an unbranded ROM
I'll PM the new owner later and ask him to check the box.
Edit: PM sent.

Whatever it is...it works on WIND
Hi Peops,
Greetings from Can-eh-da!
Thanks to a few postings I saw up in here, and a sweet pre-Christmas deal going on at Wind Mobile, I decided to take a $25 non-refundable SIM card bet on the information posted on these forums, specifically that unlocked HTC One-S phones with the PJ40110 model number *may* work on WIND because it supports AWS.
Using thread #13 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673378&page=2, I found out I might have a ONe-S that works on Wind...I was right!
Hope this helps someone the way I was helped!
Tske care, eh!
