If I s-off are any of the radios in the radio thread compatible with tmobile. Meaning is there a way to get 3g? I know the at& t radio only gets edge due to missing one of the frequencies but I was thinking maybe one of the European or Asian radios might work?

No, not possible. The radio frequencies are not compatable.

Noob question sorry. My buddy has a GT-I9020T (900mhz?) running on wind, he wants to change service providers to rogers (850mhz?). If i were to root his phone and flash the rogers radio onto it, would he be able to connect to the rogers network with a rogers sim? afaik the answer is no but i just want to verify before i give him incorrect information.
No the radio is also hardware based but from what I understand you'll be able to get 2G {Edge} on rogers but not 3G and on Bell and Telus it won't work at all

That is correct, you will be able to connect to Rogers using GSM and only with 2g speeds. Forget about connecting with any network that strictly uses HSDPA like Koodo, as it will not work (not sure if Telus is the same). I've tested this myself - had to get rid of my i9020T because around my house Wind had a dead spot -_-
like the guys said, the frequencies are hardware based, so there is nothing you can do to change them. rooting won't help. you'd need to buy a whole new nexus s that has the correct frequencies for the Rogers network 3g bands.
1.) Once you have perm root and flash a custom rom you can use any SIM from any carrier correct?
I had a HTC Inspire from AT&T and running a custom rom put in a Tmobile SIM card and it worked but I had terrible reception.
2.) I also have a HTC Sensation from Tmobile that I just recently rooted and it wouldn't work with my At&t SIM. I understand this is due to the Tmobile rom on the phone and to have the at&t SIM work I'd need a custom rom or unlock the sim right?
I've read some about SuperCID but I understand that is only if you want to run another carriers rom (exp: run a european carriers standard sensation rom on a tmobile sensation) Is this correct?
3.) My main question is that since a phone's radio deals with how it interacts with wifi, gps and the carriers network wouldn't using a tmobile radio with a at&t SIM always give crappy performance and is there anything I can do about this? At&t doesn't have a radio for the sensation. Or am i looking at this all wrong?
Thank you for your help!
AT&T and T-mobile run off of different frequencies. The frequencies the phone uses does not change with the radio. When using a T-mobile phone with an AT&T SIM, you are only going to get edge (2G) speeds, and vice versa.
There is nothing to be done about this? Edge might as well be no data at all :/

Nope, nothing that can be done. There are some pentaband phones out that will get 3G/4G on both...galaxy nexus, and versions of the evo 3d and optimus 3d.

Hi, if I flashed a radio meant for 900/1700/2100 frequency on a Sensation from Bell Canada (using 850/1900), will it work with T-Mobile/Wind/Mobicility (on AWS)?
can you provide more info? which radio are you trying to flash? what rom and radio are you using? etc
from my understanding, there is no right or wrong radio for each sensation. they are universal. some may work better than others depending on your carrier and region.
From my understanding, there are two versions of the sensation, z710a and z710e.
z710a (850/1900) is for North America (Bell Canada), whereas z710e (900/1700/2100) is for international plus T-Mobile.
What I was wondering was if you flashed a radio meant for z710e on a z710a, will you get the 900/1700/2100 frequencies?
Bump I want to know too

no, each phone variant has built in frequencies which cannot be changed via flashing a radio. radios dont have anything to do with frequencies. they just help with signal strength. the frequencies (850/1900 etc) tell you whether you get 3/4g service, which depends on your carrier
I just thought that the sensation might be one of those phones where the manufacturer locks out some frequency to suit the carriers supplied. Just wondering if somebody out there tried it out by flashing different radios to see if it's really a hardware limitation.
So what's att at for there 3g vs tmob

I know the AT&T Samsung galaxy note was hacked to work on the 1700mhz T-mobile network. Can anyone tell me if this is feasible on for the unlocked international One S ?
We in the rest of the world uses WCDMA... you americans use CDMA... BIIIIIIG difference.
Thiesen, I guess you have a complete misconception there.
Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.
T-Mobile & AT&T use good ol' GSM/WCDMA, so if the phone has the right radio frequencies, it will work.
the hardware between the two devices are exactly the same right ??
So the only difference needed will be the correct radio in order for it to work ??
I have the international (UK) mine supports GSM / WCDMA - so if thats what TMOUS Uses, it shouldnt be a problem ?
The internation version doesn't have the 1700 AWS band (for T-Mobile) or the 1900 band (for AT&T).
No idea why HTC would suddenly eliminate the 1900 band, especially as it has always been present on their phones.
As far as I know, the Galaxy Note works on T-Mobile because it has always had the bands needed, they were just disabled. I guess the question is, does the international One S have the bands and they're disabled, or does it not have the bands at all?
The chip inside the phone is capable of all bands. the issue its turning them on.

If this is the case all you need to do is flash a T-Mobile radio really. However to do that you need S-Off

I am not sure what a "ruu " is were can I get it, and how would I apply it to the phone ?
Thanks
its a rom upgrade utility..
you download in in a .exe format, and your computer flashes the rom onto your phone.. Its a complete image including kernel, radio, rom, the lot.
there arent many ruu's available yet, as the phone has just been released.

You can also flash a euro baseband or even a One X(L) baseband (evita) to it as I have mine.
