I'm trying to see if I can ditch my Epic 4G and sidegrade to a Nexus S 4G with spending as little money as possible.
Looks like the prices for new Nexus S is around 220ish, with used Epics going from $130 and up. Wondering if I should just buy a new/used Nexus S, add it to my plan, deactivate the Epic 4G then sell it (it's in pristine condition, had it since launch).
I also have a $75 upgrade available (knowing the Premier program is changing soon) and Sprint is offering $85 for a trade in of the Epic 4G as well.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
That's an upgrade not a sidegrade!!! You could get lucky and find a person willing to trade. Otherwise I would sell it on eBay or CL.

I went from the EPIC to the nexus s about 2 weeks ago and I will never look back. I had called sprint and asked them for an early upgrade cause I was so tired of that peice of **** epic. They would not give me a full upgrade yet and I told them I want to exchange my phone for a different one then cause I had so many problems with the epic. I went through a couple different supervisors and finally they said ok and I could choose between the evo and the transform and the nexus! U already know what I chose...

I've always gotten phones straight from Sprint with the two year agreement and $150 rebate.
I was checking on Best Buy/Wirefly and right now they have the Nexus S for 0$ with contract extension. How does that work?
that contract extension only works if your eligible for your $150 upgrade cause they want you to sign up for another 2 years. Trust me there is no way around this. If you want a new phone like the SGS2 or the new nexus prime coming up and you dont have a full upgrade yet just add another line to your acount and the you get the phone at the contract price. After you do that just put the line you just opened on hold and it will cost you only $10 a month.
i traded my epic for an evo a couple months ago, and today i'm trading a evo for a nexus s 4g. just keep tabs on your area's craigslist. people are always looking to trade their phone for something different.

No it doesn't, I traded my Evo for the Nexus S 4G 2 months ago I also included all 3 of my otterbox cases.. I posted the phone and within 5 minutes of it going up someone called me with a Brand new in box Nexus S.. I freakin love this phone. Upgraded my best friend and my mom to one yesterday. NFC with Google Wallets is awesome

The only way to reset an upgrade is to buy a subsidized phone through your carrier or an authorized retailer.

So I wanna get the mytouch 4g. I'm currently one year into my two year contract with tmo with my gravity 2 (phone sucks). I talked to a rep and told me the phone would cost me around $300 since I'm not eligible for a full upgrade. Any way of getting the phone for less thru someone (Wirefly, etc.)?

Nope. The phone $450 without a contract
Switch over to a Family Plan and add the MyTouch as a new line maybe? Then just remove all the features on one of the lines. New lines qualify for the $150 pricing I think.
Do some back to back warranty replacements then threaten to cancel your contract if you don't get a new phone. It worked for me, and they sent me a free phone without renewing my contract.

A friend of mine just tried that ... He ended up with an LG Optimus... That's the best they would give him.
This is an example of a conversation questions, this will stay in general section.
They first tried to get me to upgrade, but I told them it was cheaper to cancel my contact and get a new phone through att. Needless to say they transfered me straight to retention.

Give it about two weeks and then check Craigslist.
Theres already a brand new in unopened box G2 for $350.00
in my area on C/L. I've seen a couple G2's for $300.00.
The MyTouch 4g will be the same in a couple weeks.
I bought my Nexus on C/L.

We were part of the 1,000 customers a week they dropped for 12 weeks back in 2007. They just dropped us after 6 years of being loyal customers. No notice, no warning, nothing. Just couldn't use our phones one day. Got a letter post marked a month later saying they were dropping customers with to many calls with complaints each month. Funny thing is, we may have called twice a year at most and that was only to pay the bill if me or my wife couldn't get online to pay the bill. We gave up and went to T-Mobile after 2 days of getting nowhere with them. They also had the nerve to charge us an etf for both lines plus an additional $100 per line for a texting plan we never had and tried to take it oyt of our bank account. My wife got the bank involved and fought it so they sent us a huge final bill. My wife told them to shove it. Haven't heard from them since.

To be fair, Sprint's Customer Service has had a complete 180 since they. It is mostly due to cases like this and the horrible reputation they got that led to a mass exodus of customers.
I got an Evo on launch day (June 2010) and my experience with Sprint CS was always really good. If it hadn't been for their ****ty data speeds and stalled WiMax rollout, I would probably still be with them.
My dad is letting me switch to sprint, I hate att for buying T-Mobile us.the customers are suffering for att's mistakes

Still would not switch to Sprint after what they did to us. Yes I tend to hold a grudge.
I'll be headed for VZW, my experiences with AT&T in all their incarnations of the name, haven't been good over a 40+ year time period.
Sprint is too expensive for what I want/need.
I'll see what AT&T does for a month or two but I'm off to VZW as soon as AT&T irritates me and experience tells me that'll be the very first time I call CS and get their standard "We don't care, we don't have to care, we're the phone company!"

I came from sprint and absolutely HATED them. Awful customer service, overpriced phones and ridiculous fees.
I must say though, AT&T BLOOOOOOOOWS. I guess its a matter of preference as to which qualifies as "the lesser of two evils."

Would this affect my service? I have better service where I live on T-Mobile then my girlfriend does on AT&T. Will they just merge all the cell towers as well or what?
Let's get some stimulating conversation up in here!
I got mine on Amazon for 1 penny during a memorial day sale. I switched from my Sprint Epic 4g cuz Sprint's service was absolute crap where I live. I was missing more than half of my calls and texts and ended up hopping back onto my mom's family plan. Any interesting stories from you all?
When: Shortly after release
Where: AT&T
Why: Aria sucked
How much: Free, complain to AT&T that my wife's Aria sucked enough then told them if they sent me replacements I would just send them back until I did it 3 times and they'd offer me a replacement anyways so just save us both the trouble. Had a new Inspire overnighted and I got to keep and resell the Aria.

When: month ago
Where:AT&T
Why: had Verizon but service was not that great in my area, especially in my apartment which is in basement. Had about 5 different androids with them most were replacements because of service issues but none were 4G. So came to AT&T and bought a refurb inspire for $30. Service is better and love the phone.

Got mine on release day (2/13/11 - I can't remember for how much). Picked it up for the extra RAM (came from a Captivate - had a lot of "low memory" issues). I used it from then all the way until the GS2 release (10/2/11), which is the longest I had ever kept one phone. Usually at this point I would sell it, but I can't . I'm using it like a tablet (wifi browsing, updating calendar events, games, etc. - pretty useful actually).
It was/is the best phone I've ever used. The GS2 will probably take that spot, but it hasn't proven itself yet . Waiting on more development to pick up.

I don't get why people diss on AT&T's network. I know it is horribly overpriced and lacks certain things, but in the 10 years I've been with them I have never had serious issues with their networks.
On release day. Paid net price of $50 after selling my Captivate.
When- A month month ago
Where- Target
Traded in iPhone 3gs that I had jailbroke. Reverted to stock for return. Ended up with Inspire and 70 left on a gift card.
A couple of weeks later my wife decided to do the same thing and got an Atrix. Of course, rooted both and flashed custom Rom on mine, she kept stock.

I purchased mine on cowboom.com when they were having a sale of used phones for $119 about 2 weeks ago. I bought it because I hadn't tried Android yet, and I sometimes travel to other countries to visit family, so after some research, I saw that the Inspire had an easy root & unlock process. Plus, there's something shmexy about HTC's designs...

where-Att store
why-atrix was the worst phone i have ever touched
how much-made money, sold my atrix for $350 and bought inspire for $99, used two upgrades

Why cause of the huge screen and because its q modern phone and HTC hehe

Bought the Wife an iPhone 4s 16GB for Christmas , and now I am left with an extra rooted Evo 4G. I am a flashaholic and I love my Evo, but I would like to try Google Wallet and CM9/ICS Roms on the Nexus S 4G. I was hoping to trade the extra Evo straight up for a good, used Nexus S with a clean ESN, but I think most people would rather have cash. Craigslist here in Columbus has what I am looking for, but the prices vary from $120 (possible scam?) to over $300 (price gouging or NIB). I would like to get a feel from you all as to what I should be paying. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
Used with a good ESN and in mint condition they go for around 230-250, but yeah most would probably want cash instead of another phone. Usually you get rid of your phone cause you got another one.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll sell the Evo separate and be ready to meet somewhere with public wifi so I can try to activate the Nexus on the spot.
I got one for 100 and another for 140 on Craigslist. But that was right before ics got so popular. Now eBay will be the best choice. And these were clean esn for sprint.

If an NS4G is what you have then that is what you will get given supply. You can't exactly ask for more then you got.
Just took my ns4g in a few days ago because of abysmal signal and Increasingly yellow tinge to white colors on the screen. They offered to replace it because they didn't have any parts available in house but then discovered that the insurance company had no replacements available and had it listed as no chance of restock. The insurance company had it locked so it could only be replaced with a evo slide, htc design, or Motorola photon 4g. I tried *****ing them into a galaxy nexus but they said they couldn't do anything about it, the system would only let them choose from those 3. So if any of these phones interest you Id give it a shot. Just keep in mind that the Motorola photon the only decent option has a locked boot loader and the newest one hasn't been hacked yet, so you would be stuck with old ass android 2.3 rather than the sexy 4.1 you have now. The other two are also stock 2.3 but may be hackable, I didn't really look because i went for the photon.
Quick side note,
I first took it to the sprint store 5 min from my house and they told me it wouldn't be worth my time to get a replacement, and they wouldn't even look at it. They gave me the number of the insurance company and said I would have to pay shipping and a deposit to get a replacement. Then went to a sprint place 45min away a few days later for the lolz(was in the area) and they offered a replacement on the spot. Same with the epic 4g on my account. space bar was broken on keyboard, first store couldn't even open it up because of "a stripped screw" so they wouldn't be able to replace/fix it. went to second store they opened it right up and fixed it. Moral of the story if they wont give you what you want try another sprint store. (both are corporate stores btw)
Crappy choices...
